I've visited Borealis several times, most recently during the COVID era. They've done a great job adjusting to social distancing requirements; as a heads up, they only allow 2 people in the store at a time, therefore you may have to wait in line outside. The coffee is definitely worth the wait (as you could tell from the long line that built up while I was waiting for my pre-work coffee - this is clearly a hit spot for a lot of locals!) They also currently offer online orders for pick-up. Borealis makes some of the best coffee in RI, and offers a variety of quality coffee options - from pour over, to espresso drinks, to nitro. For a fun and unique experience, they also offer coffee flights. They roast in small batch and their coffee is bursting with rich flavor. On my most recent trip I bought a pound of whole bean Team Crafty Signature Roast. I typically go for a light roast over a medium, but made at home in my aeropress, these beans are a delicious mix of wine and chocolate while still coming through with some lighter citrus flavor. At $15/lb, they're certainly not the most expensive beans in PVD, but are some of the best I've tried. Bottom line - love Borealis. If you're looking for high quality coffee, definitely check them out. If you're looking for a cute, homey cafe staffed by people who clearly love their job, also check them out. read more

Have had Borealis Coffee on my "places to try" list for a while and finally got the chance today. Was surprised that they had very limited options for food to go with your coffee/tea. We both ordered the flash ice coffee and we both wish we had ordered the stronger roast as this tasted more like water than coffee! I did like that they had plant milk options. But, for the price the coffee size should be larger. It was smooth and not bitter, but needed to have more of a coffee taste for our personal preferences. We will try it one more time to see if we like the cold brew better. read more

Really impressive coffee shop! Stopped here as a much needed pit stop while walking the trail. It is literally right on the trail- so convenient for a quick stop to recharge. We sampled the matcha mint lattes which were absolutely amazing! I haven't had a better matcha latte since I was in San Diego in 2015! Also, we sampled the salad and a Olga's cheddar and scallion scone. The scone was a little dry- maybe because it was later in the day- but entirely decent. I was really impressed with the cleanliness of this place! It's in an renovated train station but everything- counters, tables, floors and bathrooms were so immaculately clean! The place shows real pride of ownership and attention to detail. The owners seem to have really invested in the place- the interior design is gorgeous and very impressive for a coffee shop. I got a banana pecan muffin and cortado today and the muffin had no taste of banana and a few pecans(?) The cortado was on the bitter side. I will give them another chance but not get that muffin though. It's kind of tasteless. read more

A few friends and I followed the East Bay bike path and it led us right to the entrance of Borealis Coffee Roasters... #convenient. In the middle of a pretty old neighborhood, this sleek coffee shop stands out quite a bit. I got an iced chai latte with a shot of espresso in it. Unfortunately, it wasn't too great. Way too bitter -- almost as if they didn't put any chai in there at all. My friends enjoyed their drinks. One of them got a drink called "golden milk" which tasted almost like a spiced, warm eggnog. It was delicious! Even though I didn't particularly enjoy my drink, the laid back atmosphere, cute board games and cards available, and convenience makes up for it. BUZZIN BUZZIN BUZZIN. This is how I feel after having a Borealis Nitro Cold Brew. Their coffee will reanimate the dead and that's no lie. I love going to this place, but it's a little bit of a drive from Providence, so I don't get out there as much as I would like. They have a cute little shop over in Riverside that seats about 20 people comfortably. The staff is always in a good mood and doesn't mind if you take some time to study the menu and find exactly what you're looking for. They generally have local treats such as donuts or other goodies on display for you to buy. I have never gone here without the place being at least half full, so that is always a good sign for a coffee spot. The music is usually not too loud which makes for a perfect environment for studying or to have a chat. I basically gave up on buying iced coffee; you only have to shell out $4.50 for a disappointing cold brew a few times to learn your lesson. Borealis Coffee Roasters was the perfect place to restore my faith in the craft! There are actually 3 options if you want an iced coffee: cold brew, nitro cold brew, and "flash," which means they ice down their brew of the day. At most places, this is not what you want: the iced (formerly hot) coffee is usually burnt or stale. But here, in my opinion, the "flash" is actually the best thing to get because the heat extracts the full range of flavor from the beans. The house blend today was from Kenya and totally amazing! Plus, the prices are really reasonable: for flash or cold brew, it's $2.50 for a small and $3.50 for a large. The employees are really friendly and helpful. They roast the beans right in the shop, so everything is fresh and it smells fantastic in here! Although it's not a large store, it feels very spacious. There's plenty of natural light, tables, outlets, parking, and free wifi, making this the ideal place to do work. I'm pretty religious about making my own coffee at home to save money, so it's nice to go to a place that does it right and reminds me what I'm missing. Borealis Coffee has been on regular rotation in my household for quite some time so my husband and I were very enthusiastic about them opening a cafe location. The best part is we now have a coffee shop we can bike to in about 6 minutes flat. The location, right ON the bikepath is great. The outdoor area has plenty of space for bikes and I'd go so far as to say it's a destination worth biking to if you're in PVD. The coffee itself is superb. My husband and I are pretty serious about our coffee and Borealis is currently ranking at 2nd place overall in the state for us. That's impressive since our top ranked local coffee roaster has been in the biz for decades. The roasts are very well defined and even the casual coffee drinker will appreciate the subtle differences between them. They make a great latte and they have an extensive list of tea options. The baked goods are always delicious, too. The decor is beautiful. Lots of seating inside and out as well as reliable wi-fi makes for a great spot to get some work done, too. One caveat though; the vibe here is very chill and the utmost care and attention is given to each drink and this is most definitely not a Dunkin' which are all excellent qualities....except when it's a weekday morning and you're already running late to work and you just need caffeine, like, right now! I like to be able to throw my money down on the counter, get some coffee sloshed into a cup, toss me a scone and I'm out the door ready to battle my commute. After an amazing Sunday morning brunching it up with some family, we decided to go for a quick drive and check out our friends over at Borealis Coffee Roasters. I knew that they were renovating/restoring a historical building in Riverside, but didn't know that they had finished and had opened up shop! So when I heard the news, I knew I had to get on down there and check it out. They did an amazing job bringing this once abandoned railroad station back to life. It is the perfect mix of old and new. Bringing the rich history of the building to the forefront, but subtle enough where the space has taken on a new meaning/purpose. It is bright, new and to the point. The menu is simple and clean. You will not find any raspberry white mochas or triple toffee chunk frappes here! They serve hand-crafted coffee goodness! The beans are roasted in-house and the freshness definitely comes through in the final product. I had an Iced latte with house-made vanilla syrup. I am a hazelnut fan and would love if somehow that could be an option in the future. I know, I know... I should drink it as is and savor the flavor of the coffee, but I'm a sucker for a good hazelnut latte! ( I would also love to see a seasonal flavor... I realized how bad I wanted a delicious fall flavored latte as I sat and enjoyed your gorgeous patio area outside.) Once we got our beverages we made our way through the cafe area, with cute little nooks to sit, read and do some work! We noticed a large patio area and made our way out. We grabbed one of the tables right along the bike path decided to stay for a bit and enjoy some of the afternoon. What a fantastic addition to the East Bay. Borealis features coffee roasted on the premises, including a number of excellent Ethiopian coffees. The space is very welcoming and features free wifi, so it is a nice spot to work or meet a friend. The staff is very helpful and knows their coffee. Borealis also offers tea and baked goods. First of all the location is great, conveniently located on the bike path, formerly a train station. Inside its totally renovated. It's nice and bright, freshly painted and decorated. Staff was really friendly and encouraged my choice for my coffee. (This is more so the mixed reviews I had received was on the staff. But they were kind, helpful and chatty today). I opted for a hot Nutella latte. It was delicious as I'd hoped it would be. Price is standard for a coffee shop and the area. Ambiance wise, this is a nice place with many tables. I'm not sure I'd feel cozy enough to sit and work here for a long period though. It is a nice and quiet coffee shop though! I'd really recommend a stop in to try their coffee. I had their coffee at an art fair prior to them opening at this location and enjoyed it. The owners were great to talk to and clearly passionate about their craft. I wanted to make a point of visiting and supporting the new store. The old train depot was nicely renovated. There is plenty of room to kick back inside to the scent of freshly roasted coffee. They have the coffee drinks that you'd expect to find and a nice variety of pastry to accompany your drink. I had the cold brew which was smooth, flavorful and what you would expect from a coffee shop cold brew. The baristas working that morning were friendly and helpful, answering questions while making the drinks with care. If you typically visit the various coffee shops around the state, there is no reason not to make a stop here if you are in the neighborhood. You won't be disappointed. read more
