Visited today as part of the RI food fights event. Where most places are giving basic cold brew options this location blew me out of the water with a cold brew flight! Three options of cold brew including their nitro cold brew. Enjoyed my flight with a white chocolate peanut butter pretzel donut from PVD Donuts which they offer fresh on the weekends. Customer service was excellent. Outdoor seating along the sunlite bike bath is beautiful and relaxing. For the first time during this event I loved the coffee so much I got another nitro cold brew for the road. Impressed for sure. read more

That's hard to find, but even more hard to find is coffee THIS good! They've also been making connections with various local vendors for food products, which really is admirable and smart. Borealis Coffee is a niche retail coffee shop and micro-roastery located in Riverside, a short bike ride from Providence off the East Bay bike path. On my first visit, the owner Brian told my friend and I that he started as a home roaster by supplying his coffees to the film sets he was working at and that he grew his business from there. Borealis has been a labor of love and every coffee drink from this shop crafts drinks from beans that are roasted in house on an antique Probat coffee roaster. In addition to its own coffees, Borealis sells specialty home brewing equipment and makes a point of offering local goodies like Rhody Fresh milk and pastry from Illuminated Oven and Just Like Nana's. I recognized some baristas from other indie coffee shops in and around Providence. Depending on the barista, some drinks I enjoyed thoroughly, others were just ok--the consistency of the drinks I've had here could use some improvement. My guess is consistency will improve with time and practice. Riverside and surrounding towns have been the land of corporate coffee and so Borealis is a welcome addition to the cafe scene here. Went in after a long walk on the bike path. The woman at the register was not friendly at all and snippy. Coffee was pretty good. Additional charge for half and half instead of milk but no big deal. Overall good coffee but that woman left me feeling like i was bothering her. read more

Best coffee in Rhode Island, hands down. I love that you can get real maple syrup added to any drink. Their in-house roasted espresso beans make some of the best espresso I have ever tasted. I drive all the way just to buy a bag of these beans. I have frequently remarked that as much as I love coffee, I would love it even more if it tasted the way it smelled, and this place does it! The sweet and fruity notes come out in these beans in a way that I didn't think was possible. 11/10 read more

Down the bike path from Providence proper, this is a great cafe that would be the best cafe in town in any other little city. It is cool in any context. If you are in Providence it is worth the short trip down the bay if you feel like getting away from the regular cafes you visit and regular regulars you see everyday. If it is nice out and you are on your bike, then you have to come here no matter what. read more

Great new find! Awesome reuse of a nice old building. How many previous uses for the old depot can you name? (Tanning salon, deli, ???). Hope their example can motivate others to revitalize this Riverside commercial area. Small batch roaster with a real passion for their beans. Finally went in here for coffee after driving past many times. The space sure is beautiful and they did an amazing job bring the old building back to life. I had one of the daily specials ( a nutella macchiato) and it was wonderful. We sat in the corner and played cribbage and there was a lovely vibe. But here's the caveat. Large coffees come in glasses without handles that burn your hands and are impossible to handle until the coffee is too cool to drink. The baked goods were pretty awful. I had a cinnamon roll that was heated up (probably microwaved) and tasted like a gummy mess that I had to throw out. Worst of all, one of the staff was pretty unfriendly to us. We will try again soon because we really was to like this place! read more

This cozy little coffee shop posts itself up right next to a bike path, has a neat little outside area and an incredible interior. The owner and staff are extremely friendly, clearly passionate about what they do and make great coffee to boot! The coffee here is small batch roasted (ask the staff about the process, it's pretty neat!) and has a great quality to it. As many small batch processes tend to, you can get slight variance from batch to batch, but I've found it pleasant. The only note of potential earning I will offer is that coffee drinkers who prefer darker roasts may find it hard to settle on a coffee here, they truly excel at the medium and light roasts and I can recommend them hands down, but if you are a dark roast coffee snob (I can't spell con-eh-sore, so, snob will have to do, no offense meant :p) you should try this place but don't forget to keep an open mind. read more

Right off the bike path, Borealis' new location is small, neat, and full of delicious coffee available in just about any form you like. I usually stick to cortados, but if pour overs are your thing they can do those too. On particularly hot days they are also on point with cold brew. Better yet, being a roasting location, there is a fair selection of freshly roasted beans to bring home. With a super friendly and knowledgeable staff, whether you are in the area or driving out to Riverside, Borealis is worth the trip. read more

I've been here 3 times now and Borealis never disappoints. I absolutely love coffee shops and try to visit as many different ones in as many different cities as I can. Borealis ranks right at the very top of the ones so far. I've tried their pour overs which are very well done, typically via Chemex. I also tried a "Flash" for the first time. Which is essentially a pour-over, on ice and was very pleased and surprised at the amount of depth, body and character that was preserved in an iced coffee drink. My companion is a tea aficionado, and she absolutely loved several of their tea offerings. Matcha tea is great, but Nitro matcha brings it to a new level. Also, their chai tea with macadamia nut milk was absolutely fantastic. They stock some really delicious treats from a local bakery: donuts, scones, muffins etc. The owner or manager seems very knowledgeable and I'm always greeted with a smile and kind and attentive service whenever I visit. Their location right on the bike path, inside an old train station just adds extra points for ambience and coolness. If you love coffee or tea, swing by, you won't be disappointed! read more

So excited to finally have a place like this in our neighborhood! Clean and bright, with a friendly staff. The roasts I've tried so far are bold and flavorful. I love their coffee, but really love the people that work there. Today a gentleman came in holding his shirt over his face I think because he forgot his mask. I was really impressed with how well the young woman working handled it. She didn't make him feel weird about it but let him know that he couldn't stay in the store and that she would meet him outside to take his order for him. Okay... I've been meaning to try this place for so long! But it's a littttttle far from providence for a quick coffee trip. Sadly, my friends and I showed up with laptops to do work and forgot to check the hours (didn't realize it would close at 5pm). But at least we still got our drinks! I tried the iced matcha, which had a very nice flavor but I highly suggest asking for a little less sweetened or with a little honey instead (tasted a little too desserty to me). Tried my friends coffees and they were very nice though! I'll have to come back at an earlier time because it looks nice to sit out back and do some work! Only other suggestion would be maybe a little more food options - verrrry limited. But what was there didn't look bad read more
