This place is the truth. Came here a bit nervous because my Spanish is very basic, but Alejandra speaks English. ALWAYS call before you come in OR before pickup, just to make sure she's working or available. This still applies even if you are going by the ticket she gives you. Hours are from 10-6 but I've learned that sometimes it varies. ALWAYS check and save your time and frustration. If you are coming by last minute, you can check for an open wooden brown door. which will indicate that Alejandra is present. There is a white rolling gate with a white sign above it to indicate location. I wanted to get 3 pairs of pants hemmed and with a 1-inch taper below the knee. I think I paid around 30-35 bucks. Just make sure you call before you try and pick up. I say try because she does not meet her deadlines as others have mentioned. I have gone three different times to pick up one pair of jeans. A week and half later , they're still not done. Best of luck. read more

Super nice lady. I want to support local business. However the last 3 times she's never had my alterations ready by the day and time she put down on the slip. They've all been simple jobs (hems, zippers) Once I went the day after the date she wrote on my ticket and my item still wasn't ready. Again, she's a lovely person but I won't be returning because the last time I brought stuff to be altered I had to go 3 times before it was ready for pick up...my dresses were not ready the day and time she wrote on the ticket. Told me to come back at a certain time. I did. No one was there. Then went back the next day. Dresses were returned to me full of fur from another piece she was working on. Also, she didn't press the hem so it looked awkward. Maybe it was just my bad luck the last 3 times in a row she missed her own deadline. If you're ok with coming back a few times or giving it several days after the date she says your item will be ready then definitely go and support her business bc she is local and a very nice person. Although Borinquen is closer to me, I'm going back to Alterations located at 5317 N Figueroa St Unit 7 Los Angeles, CA 90042 where the job is always on time and clean and well done. read more

I don't understand the 5 star reviews. Alejandra is scattered, consistently misses her own deadlines, and doesn't complete all the work. After 2 weeks of calling her to see if she was finished, and being promised it would take a couple more days, we were able to pick our order up. One of the dresses still had pins in the back and was not altered. We've being going back and forth with her almost another 2 weeks since then to get that done, and she keeps pushing the finish date back. Once we went there and observed her with another customer who came to pick up his order. She'd done the wrong alteration to the wrong shirt, and had neglected to alter another. The customer was asking her questions and they where just met with silence and a confused look, she had no idea what was going on. Save your time, go somewhere else. read more

Great neighborhood seamstress. Alejandra always does a great job with all my alterations. Sometimes she gets backed up with jobs so if I don't need it right away, I let her know it's not important. If I need my item of clothing for a trip or something done by a certain time, she always delivers. It helps to call the day before or the morning of and ask her if it's ready and what time so you don't waste a trip down there. Her prices are very inexpensive for the work she does so I think it's good to leave her a generous tip to keep her in business. read more

I brought a dress in for alterations, I originally thought I needed it in a week (dropped it off Saturday), but then called back later (called Monday) when I realized I needed it earlier. I've given this place multiple opportunities but she never comes through. She says one thing and does another. I dropped off my clothes at the beginning of the week and she said she would have it finished on Friday but when I arrived on Friday she hadn't even started and told me I'll finish it in about 10 minutes; if that was the case then why not finish it the same day I dropped it off. She's rather inconsistent and takes on too many loads at once. read more
