How on earth had I not reviewed Double Needle? I've been a fan since the old location. Jared and team have consistently come through with denim repair and alterations done to perfection. They even hand-repaired an ailing Dries Van Noten tank top for me. I can always count on Double Needle to have the knowledge and skillset to do things right, with extreme patience and to such a degree of precision that a true denim head would cosign. I'm a four time customer of Double Needle. I have have waited a moment to give this review because I've been burned by several denim repair places in Los Angeles in the past. I wanted to make sure that I threw what little weight I have behind someone great. Jared has repaired pockets and stitching on my beloved Bryceland's jeans, as well as a major blowout on a pair of coveted 70s Levis. He's also done difficult work altering the leg line of a pair of too-tight Full Counts and adjusted the waist and seat of a pair of 90s Black Levis. So I can fairly say that he's done the full gambit of repairs for me. Jared can sometimes take awhile to get your jeans back to you, and doesn't always communicate the right return timeline. In the past, this has annoyed me. However, he NEVER under-delivers, and the quality rivals denim repair places that cost twice as much (I'm looking at you Railcar.) More than that, I can actively tell that he's working to improve customer communication. When it comes to clothing repairs, the engineering triangle applies; good, fast, affordable -- pick two. Jared and Double Needle fall on the good and affordable end of that scale (with heavy emphasis on good.) So if you want the best repairs for denim around at a reasonable price, I'd say you should give this a shot. And thanks again Jared for getting my jeans back to me in great shape. read more

I was hoping for a bit more from the work delivered. The repair took close to a month to complete, and the result was a basic fix. Don't expect intricate craftsmanship. That said, the pricing is very affordable, which is a plus. Appreciate the effort. read more

My partner came here to have her items altered for a special occasion. We visited on 6/13 (see date on the ticket). She gave specific information on when she needed the items by (before Friday 6/24) and on the ticket he notes that it would be ready the prior day (Thursday 6/23). The following week we're awaiting a call on Thursday for pickup--no call. At this point we're nervous bc we have an event on the Westside Friday 6/24 in the afternoon (and mind you if you're an LA native that commute is no joke) and especially nerve wracking if we don't have a status on attire. So I call Friday afternoon when they open at 12pm on behalf of my partner reasonably upset and tell him he lied bc essentially they are closed on Thursday (see screenshot) and we have a ticket showing that's the pickup date. He's flustered and musters up that it would be ready in 2 hours; mind you our event is at 4pm on the Westside so cutting it pretty close. I come to the shop and pick up the items and he has a cheeky grin --no apology--and says "Yeah we're closed on Thursday ". The items were decently tailored but will definitely not be returning bc he has no respect for his patrons and put us though unnecessary stress. FYI the owner is white and we're POC so I guess it's on us for thinking we would be treated w decency. Never again. read more

I had 2 vintage pairs of Levi's that needed to be fixed. the oldest pair (which has a ton of holes and distressing throughout that i love dearly) had a HUGE rip all the way across the back thigh area plus the crotch completely blown out. the second pair has very little distressing but I ripped the crotch when I squatted down one day and the hole just kept getting bigger by the day. so I texted this place and they told me to come on in. for the amount of work I needed, I felt like the pricing was fair. Two pairs of jeans, multiple repairs needed, and it was about the same price as another place quoted me for just ONE pair! the repairs look great, and they even reinforced some of the holes that i wanted to keep intact on my old thrashed pair without me asking. my only complaint is that it did take about a month for me to get my jeans back, but it was worth the wait and they did a great job. if you're in a rush, I maybe wouldn't recommend this place, but if you want the job done right and don't mind waiting, I highly recommend them! i'll post some before and afters on both pairs read more

Surprised how they stay in business. Really bad customer service. Paid them in advance and they never finished the job. The cost being very much on the expensive/premium end for tailoring services. For more detail: I went in for basic alterations on two pairs of pants. A person named Pete pulled out a tape measure and basically eye-balled where they would take in a taper and hem on the two pairs. He claimed "this is how we do it now". After I insisted on trying them on first and pinning them like any normal tailor, I was met with rude behavior as though I was an inconvenience. Despite my nervousness, I left them and was told they would be finished "in a few weeks". Three weeks later, I called and texted to get an update and was told "...another few weeks". Then after seeing the other reviews, I realized you can't trust these guys to get the job done in any reasonable amount of time. It could be months for what takes other tailors just days. The one star is for their expedience in reimbursing me right away which they did. However when I went to pickup the unfinished jeans, I was greeted with the same callous pretension from Pete who had to spend a few minutes to find them, buried under various piles of other clothes in no random order. Very disorganized. It's clear the owner Jared, and this Pete gentleman, don't give AF about the customer. read more

I DMed Double Needle on Instagram to confirm hours, price, and see how long an alteration would take, and I got a response in about 10 minutes. I went in and Trevor was there to help immediately. I brought 2 pants to be altered, and one pair to fix a blown out crotch. He measured me up, helping to tailor each pant to the shoes I wanted them to most often go with. I asked him how long it would take and he told me ready on Tuesday, but the fixing the crotch ones might take a little longer. All 3 were ready on Tuesday. Exactly as he promised. The shop is super cute and I'll def go back there next time I need something altered or even for a little shopping. Original hems done well! read more

I had a genuinely good experience coming here. Do not be dissuaded by any negative reviews. Jared repaired a pair of jeans that were perhaps my most beloved clothing item in my closet in the SAME evening. The rips and holes he repaired in a way that were completely consistent with the distressing of the jeans. He told me he also does alterations which I will absolutely take him up on. I am looking forward to becoming a returning customer. Be sure to call him to check his hours--he was open on a day his page said "closed" and I'm SO glad he was!!! read more

The hike was repaired and it was a string repair. It wasn't elegantly done. Sort of messy but it worked. Con - They took 2 months to do it. At least 2 months without my favorite jeans. Con - I called and asked to replace a hook too. It was a side zipper and needed a hook to close it. I picked it up and there was NO HOOK. They were just like. Oops. Do you want us to work on it longer? At this point I'd waited months for my jeans to be back. I had taken time to come by and I'd have to leave and wait longer? Fine, whatever I took them. I can zip them but they just eventually unzip. So I need to wear with long tops. So annoying. Not great. read more

Had the seat/crotch repaired on 2 pairs of jeans that wear otherwise in good shape that I could not bear to throw out. I should have taken before pictures. Yes, while I could get a brand new pair of jeans for about $15 more than the repair, at least I keep jeans that I know fit me to a tee. It's worth it for the craftsmanship applied to the repair. I'm so impressed. I've since left 2 more pairs of jeans for repair for which I had to take down the previous shoddy repair I had done by someone else who obviously did not specialize in denim repair. AVOID this place at all costs. I don't know where the 5 star reviews come from but he sure as hell isn't providing that sort of service anymore. I'm not usually one to leave bad reviews but this guy totally deserves it. Dropped my jeans off on 5/19 and was told they would be finished in two to three weeks and I would receive a text when they could be picked up. Five weeks go by and I call to check in on the status. He says he's busy and they aren't done but asks when I need them by. I say I'm taking a trip and I'd like to have them done before 7/6. I called to check on the status on 7/6 and there's no answer so I just decide to drive ten minutes and stop by. Again, the jeans are not ready but he'll "for sure" have them ready in a few weeks when I'm back in town. I call him on 8/3 and again they are not done. At this point, I was totally fed up and decided to stop by the location to collect my jeans, finished or not. When I'm there, he's defensive and insists he didn't lie to me, and says he's doing the best he can. Bullshit. If he were upfront about taking more than 10 weeks to complete them I would never have left them there. I collect my stuff and leave. I don't know what is going on with this shop for an inseam taper to take 2.5 months and still be not complete. It's a mystery to me how he stays in business. I decided to go to Denim Doctors and while it's more expensive, they said they can have it done in less than a week. read more

I've worked in high end denim and with vintage denim so I'm very familiar with good denim repairs, and this place is legit. I took a pair of vintage Levi's that had worn a hole in the crotch and the seams were getting loose. The owner (one man show sewing it seems) did such a great job fixing the jeans I had to post about it. fixing the seat was $25 which seems a fair price, though it took about a month to get my jeans back (understandable since they're so good they're obviously busy)! But it was worth it. I'll definitely be taking my vintage denim there in the future. Their prices for taking in the waist seemed a little high since I have a tailor who has insanely low prices, but double needle is the only one on the east side I'll trust with fixing holes. read more

It really sucks to leave a bad review because I really had high hopes for this place as a locaL business but I could not be more disappointed with the work they did. I paid $50 ($10 rush) during the holidays to have an expensive pair of Frames tapered and hemmed. When I picked them up from the store , I mentioned to Zach who had tailored them, that the hem was very wobbly and Asked if they were even tapered ? He said he tapered them 20% and that the hem would "straighten" when I washed. Yeah.. that never happened and the taper was terrible. I couldn't wear them because they looked so bad. The owner did not respond to a DM about this so i figured why waste my time there again ? I found the tailor that specifically does work for this jean vendor (I had not known the store offered tailoring!) and he took pity on me and met to see what needed to be done to fix them. Here is is what $50 got me with double needle: An Uneven hem. One side is longer than the other Hem needs repairing badly. The hem isn't straight. They Barely tapered "to my height" He basically needed to fix everything they messed up. Just bad tailoring. I'm sure they make super cute dog beds and can patch some jeans but are not qualiFied for what seems a straightforward job on jeans. The end. read more

It was a tricky and unique custom job, but he had great ideas on how to help them fit me better, and the finished product looks and feels great. A+ on the work. This business is owned and run by the guy doing all the sewing repairs and alterations- he is a denim expert and will make your pants perfect! I had him custom alter a pair of vintage men's jeans to fit me and they are now my favorite- they are perfectly tailored- he altered the waist, inseam, outer seam, replaced the pockets to match the correct position and hemmed them-to you would never know they didn't come that way from the factory. He also patched some denim for me that came out great too would recommend him x 1000. Keep in mind he does have a lot of work so if you need a rush job this might not be ideal, took a few weeks to get my stuff back but it was totally worth it and I wasn't in a hurry. read more

I've always taken my jeans to railcar for tapering/and hemming but over the years I'm afraid the attention to detail has gone down. I decided to give Double the Needle a try- and I'm so glad I did!! So I'm a guy with pretty big calves and finding perfect jeans are impossible. In the past when I get a nice pair of Japanese selvedge jeans I just hop onto railcar and they would measure me up and taper the jeans but the calf issue was non-negotiable and I thought that "oh well, I'ma have to live with jeans bursting at the calf." Jared, the cool dude who owns/runs Double the Needle saw me wearing a pair of momotaros and I showed him that in the calf area of my jeans the stitches that are usually hidden are now visible because of how snug they were. He said that he could fix that issue no problem. I was ecstatic! He even taughte a couple of cuffing tricks. So I dropped of the pair and even went back the next couple of days to give him ALL my pants. The turnaround was expected of a one-man show, but I never got this attention to detail ANYWHERE else. I got my all my jeans after 2 weeks and I couldn't be happier! I can actually enjoy great fitting pants!! Talk to Jared, he'll take care of you. I'm never going back to railcar. The owner has extensive experience in the denim world, but despite this was totally unpretentious and friendly. He worked on several repairs of mine of some well worn jeans, and did an excellent job on all of them for a reasonable price and within the time frame that he said was doable (which was about two weeks). He also mentioned that if I needed to expedite items he could likely do that as well. I wasn't in a huge rush, but it is good to know that if something needs repair that I can't live without, that he could make that happen. Superb craftsmanship, stitching blends perfectly, gave new life to my favorite old jeans. This will definitely be my go-to place for future repairs of all kinds. read more
