They were friendly and give you an out-the-door price. No surprises. They take photos and send them to you to show you exactly what they are looking at. No work is done before your approval. Did it come to more than their original price? Yep. They replaced the harmonic balancer (crankshaft pulley) and serpentine belt. It wasn't till then they would know the power steering pump was 'belly-up'. They topped all the fluids off and were taking the car to the carwash. The fluid all leaked out before they could even get to the corner of the building. Oh, I could have said, "Don't fix that.", but have you ever tried to drive a car when the power steering isn't working? It's much different from the older cars that had no power steering to begin with. It takes 3 men, a boy and a small dog to turn the steering wheel. In addition, it probably would have destroyed the new serpentine belt in a hurry. read more

I chose to take my car to Borst Automotive because of the excellent service I received last year. Unfortunately, that level of service has completely disappeared. The little touches that made them stand out are gone. They no longer provide a complimentary car wash after service, they let go of the driver who used to take customers home, and none of the management team that was there last year is still there. The entire atmosphere of the shop has changed, and not for the better. I explained to Fernando, the general manager, that my vehicle had mostly been sitting in my garage since July and that I wanted a routine service along with an inspection of a specific issue I had asked them to evaluate. Instead, I was sent an estimate for nearly $5,700 that didn't even address the repairs I specifically brought the car in for. Several items were marked as "critical," and the estimate instructed me to call with any questions. When I called to review the estimate, Fernando immediately responded, "Didn't you get the report I sent?" I explained that I had, but I'm not a mechanic and wanted someone to explain what the findings actually meant. He told me I needed both my front and rear suspension replaced because of the control arms. However, when I pointed out that the inspection report only said the manufacturer recommended the rear suspension and didn't identify it as a problem, he suddenly backed off and said it wasn't necessary at this time. The conversation became increasingly frustrating. His tone was pushy, dismissive, and argumentative. He accused me of having the vehicle serviced somewhere else in November and implied I hadn't maintained it properly. I explained that the car had been sitting in my garage from July until March and that the only reason it was seen elsewhere was because the battery died and needed to be replaced. He then insisted that I had been driving the car extensively because it had accumulated 2,000 miles. I had to explain that those 2,000 miles were driven over an entire year, which is actually very low mileage. At that point, I realized I was arguing with the person inspecting my car about facts that he could easily verify from the service records. That was enough for me. I sent the inspection report and estimate to a trusted friend who is an experienced mechanic in another state. He immediately told me that the quoted prices were roughly double what they should be and advised me not to have the work done there. I have since found another mechanic who treated me with respect, took the time to explain what my car actually needs and quoted much more reasonable prices. read more

I took my car for an oil leak that turned into a nightmare of excuses and charges as to why they couldn't fixed the oil leak, they took months, week after week adding more charges because they couldn't fix it. In the process, they left their tools under the hud , oil still leaking. Took it back, supposedly fixed, got home oil still leaking. Took it back they broke cooling lines because they had problems put it back together but I got charged for the damage they caused, otherwise they wouldn't warranty the job , so I pay for. took home, next morning still leaking oil and now is also leaking coolant. Took it back they claim it was a different gasket seal ( 3er gasket now) and the cooling line that was leaking was a little loose. got Fixed. drove home and all my power windows started going up and down nonstop. The speedometer going up and down from 20-70 and greats panel displaying automatic shifting from Park to Drive to Reverse. Didn't even make home, we just took back. Now they refuse to honor their warranty or their own diagnostic which are not free. I used to go to AAA but I just found my new car shop with Borst. They are very communicative, quick, and friendly. My last repair at AAA took two week and they still couldn't find what was wrong with the start/stop function. Borst found the problem in one day and it only took them 1 more day to fix it. The whole time they were texting and emailing me reports on their progress. I also like that when I go in for quick repairs they have a waiting room upstairs that offers free coffee, tea, cocoa, and cold sodas. They also offer discounts if you are costco member. Very dissatisfied with this business. My husband brought his truck in for a COMPLIMENTARY FREE OIL CHANGE that was supposed to be FREE AND LEFT paying $240.00 for a differential change which entailed only 3 quarts of FLUID and minor labor. When we called they said there was NO CHARGE FOR ANYTHING AND WE LEFT HAVING TO PAY. This to me was a huge rip off especially when he was to get 75% off of labor costs also So much for helping a senior citizen and a Vietnam Veteran ! Had an alert regarding my engine ... trouble with car - engine code detected. PO700- transmission control system (MIL Request) and PO740- Torque Converter Clutch Circuit/Open. Took to Borst. If you look up the word "excellence" in the dictionary, I think you'll find a picture of Borst Automotive. They went waaaay above and beyond the normal service we have experienced in Tucson. Normally we take our Tacoma to the dealer for service, and they have done just fine for the last 10 years. When my husband's A/C went out over 2 months ago, they tried a few different repairs which worked for about a week each time. We paid several hundred dollars, and the repairs did not fix the problem. We understand that the evaporator core needed to be replaced, and it is hard to diagnose. The dealer could not get the part we needed for over 2 months, and we had to drive around in hundred-degree-plus summer heat. After getting tired of the excuses about the unavailable part, we searched out other repair shops. Borst has lots of great reviews, so we tried them. They had a part specially made for us, had it available in about 2 days, fixed the truck in one day, and gave him a free loaner car to boot! And, it was about $300 less than the dealer! (VERY SHADY and of course Illegal) but Don at Borst we so kind and found the problems and there were many.. I went there with a coupon from AAA battery service so you think would be legit, free oil change and vehicle inspection, I went there for my brakes they were making noise, it seems you do get a vehicle inspection but it doesn't cover what you took your car there for, I was charged $66 to inspect my brakes you might think that would be included in your vehicle inspection was not informed of this when asked, also the free oil change cost me $49 I ended up paying $1585 for brakes and they needed that extra hundred and 15 dollars after soaking me for $1585 ripped off. than I got some smart ass GM CALLING ME. don't go there they will nickel and DOLLAR you to death. read more

My Daughter found this place after a mobile repair service wanted almost 3900.00 to replace rack and pinion and high pressure line, and the mechanic also said my alternator mounting bracket was cracked. I took it in to Borst after a phone quote, Nicest and cleanest auto shop I have ever seen. Also the nicest people. I used their shuttle service both ways. The shop called to let me know I need a new belt, approved the addition they found that my alternator was installed by another mechanic in the wrong location, fixed that at no additional cost. My car broke down on a Sunday and I had it towed here even though it was closed. I called the after hours emergency number and someone picked up right away. I asked if my car could be dropped off and if there was a drop off box. The person was very friendly and said there was a deop off box and gave me instructions on where it was. I left instructions that my AC went out along with a belt noise/RPM variation and that I had a CarMax warranty. I called the next morning about 10 minutes after they opened, and I was told that the order was already opened and getting worked on. They also asked me questions on my CarMax warranty, and unfortunately I didn't have any of the info because I was out of town. They made some calls and got it taken care of. The problem was diagnosed quickly and the part (new AC compressor and belt) readily available. I was given great updates along the way by Chuck and felt like I was really taken care of. My car was ready the next day, and I didn't have any problems with the warranty. If I still lived in Tucson, I would go back to them in a heartbeat. read more

Being part of the shops Voluntary Vehicle Repair Facility program I was given a list of shops. Failing emissions, I agreed to pay the $150 out of my pocket and the VVRP Contributed $550. Suggestions were made by Borst to have the carb rebuilt and put a kit in it. They did not do this because I did NOT give them another $150. The bill was $690.50. Outrageous! I can't imagine what the bill would have been if they actually did something! After the carb adjust it did pass emissions. But wow that much money for that? They called me and said they would see what they could do! Never heard from them again! read more

I beat up my truck out in the boondocks... I've used it for 4-wheeling and treated it like a tractor - using it to scout and drag trails on rugged acreage I own. They listened respectfully to the symptoms I described, and were able to repair my 'abused suspension' issues in just two days. Took my car in to have the AC system charged with Freon, after installing a new compressor myself. They told me there was a restriction somewhere and even though they charged it was still blowing hot. They charged me an hour labor and I had them take the Freon back out, so I wasn't charged for that too. I later put 2 cans of Freon in it myself and what do you know it blows Ice cold, there was no restriction, they were just trying to milk me for more money. I am surprised to see all the good reviews, because this place is shady, I don't trust them at all and will never take my vehicles to them again and I will tell everyone I know to not go there. They don't even deserve 1 star, but that was my only choice. read more
