Not a good company to do business with! You are better off to find a reputable company that stands by their service and is interested to build repeat clients. Here's the background: I called them last year for AC repair. A technician came and provided us two repair estimates/options: Option 1: to refill the freon for a quick fix or Option 2: refill freon and replace a part he identified as the culprit to the problem. He mentioned that if we went with option 1, we'd need to refill the freon again the following year. If we went with option 2, we would be good to go for a few years since we have an older unit. We chose to go for option 2, which was more than double the charge of the 1st option - since it was a longer term solution. That would at least give us a couple years to figure out which new AC unit we wanted to buy along with upgrading our furnace as a combo set. Fast forward, the AC ran out of freon again (1 year later) and no longer functions properly - same problem as before. Called the company and reminded them of the options they provided us and they basically said they will come out but will charge us to inspect and charge to fix. What the technician upsold us previously for was irrelevant and apparently bad information. Additionally they mentioned they changed the filter and added freon which would not have added life to the unit. This is a very different message then what the technician who came to our home said. Clearly some shady upselling. A company like this doesn't stand by their service and/or has incompetent technicians and/or will upsell you with bad information to make a few extra bucks. read more

Other repair companies won't even service Lennox. Borter had the spare board for my Lennox furnace on their truck. They were able to slot me earlier than expected due to an opening and called me and made it happen. Despite not working with home warranty companies, they were able to help me with mine. Though mine just required the vendor on a speakerphone call to do a problem analysis and solution explanation. This was annoying for both me and my HVAC tech, though obviously not Borters fault in any way. I wouldn't get a home warranty again, probably, but this is still reflects very well on Borter. I mean, it was just ~15 minutes of annoyance, really. But many companies want NOTHING to do with the home warranties. To diagnose and replace the board was about $875. This was accepted by the insurance company. Had I not bought insurance, I'd be happy to pay this out of pocket. My point is the service cost was not unreasonable, and it appears that they got it fixed on the first try. The board was ~21 years old, and basically a board contact was failing. Messing with it started it working again, but we all know that's not a "fix". The wires and contactors on a 21 year old motherboard and its terminals are degrading, is the reality, it just needed replacement. I understand replacing boards on a furnace is one of the harder things to do. Furthermore, my furnace is in a subcloset with almost no room. I bugged the junior tech that was mostly shadowing for a few minutes, and he seemed genuinely passionate about the company, which is rare and awesome to see. As far as I'm concerned, they did a great job. I can see literally no reason to complain about anything from my perspective. read more

We just had to replace our furnace and AC and had a great experience with Borters from start to finish. We received quotes from several companies but really had the most confidence in the quality of installation Borters could offer. (This was actually affirmed to us by one of the other companies that came to give us a quote (!), as they said Borters did the best installs in the area but would likely be the most expensive.) We were able to work together on the price and in the end they were very close to our other quotes. I was also really impressed with the salesmanship at Borters - always very respectful and informative, and never talking poorly about other companies or making me feel manipulated or pressured. Every Borter employee is efficient, effective, and very personable. The installation and service technicians are highly experienced and knowledgeable professionals. Our water heater recently failed and we decided to have Borter also replace it. Mike N who was the lead installer of our HVAC system in 2021 has now become an estimator / installation supervisor. Within an hour of contacting the office he came to our home and it was like seeing an old friend again. We discussed the recommendation he made three years earlier to switch to a different size water heater. Two hours later he emailed a very competitive estimate and then scheduled the removal of the old and installation of the new heater for the next morning. He and technicians, Jonathan and Mike D arrived punctually at 8:15a. After briefing the technicians on the specifications of the work, he left, but returned when the job was completed three hours later to check and ensure that we were pleased. We are very detail oriented with high performance standards and once again the Borter team exceeded them. Installed new heat and a/c for me, latest being a/c in 2019. Dissatisfied with a/c unit. Former unit was LOUD so I was specifically looking for quiet unit. Brochure touted current unit as being "very quiet." After installation I noticed it was as loud or louder than old one. When I complained, they said "brochure meant it was quiet for the OUTSIDE of your home--for your neighbors. Who selects a unit for their home based on how quiet it will be for your neighbors? Our house is 100 years old. Replacing mechanical systems can be challenging. Our water heater and boiler vented up a 100 year old chimney. They replaced the water heater and the boiler with wall venting units. The old water heater was 15 years old and the boiler was 60 years old. The two were in a tight space. We have had this company do lots of work for us. Most recently we had an emergency situation. Our air conditioning stopped working and it was HOT. We called and got a repair guy here in a about 1 hour. He looked at the damage and made his recommendation. We also had this company do the zoning of our house. They installed dampers on our vents so all the hot or cold air can be forced into the upstairs or downstairs. This has been VERY helpful. These guys do top notch work and their customer service is great, but you pay for it. So keep that in mind when you give them a call. read more

I inherited a furnace with their name on it as the folks that installed it. I called their number to set up a maintenance check up and my voicemail was returned promptly. I wanted an early preseason check up but they did not have availability for two months (I Wish my business had such a problem!?!), so I booked it. I must admit that I completely forgot about the appointment. Luckily I was home and the technician arrived promptly on time. He proceeded to explain his work to me, recommended a long term fix, and was clean and conciensious. Hopefully there are no problems that I have to report back on (it is 2 below zero now so the furnace is being tested by Mother Nature). I recommend these folks based on my one first time experience. I am so happy I called Brett at Borter's to help me find a solution to cool off my second story. He came over right away and suggested installing a 2-zone system in my house. I'm was a first time customer of Borter as a referral from another long time customer. The tech did nothing for our stated problem, instead took advantage of the situation and blamed our problem on being low on freeon. (this is not the case as the unit was still blowing cold air, and it was checked weeks prior). The problem still exists today. A call to the company has gone unanswered and not returned, though at this point I wouldn't welcome them back.. We've told the referrer who is more than upset to say the least. The tech was clearly content to make his commission quota, and leave without any real work spent on diagnosis. 2 stars because you can't really completely fault the company, this is on the tech and compensation structure in HVAC. The company gets 2 stars for not doing a better job of monitoring the quality of work their workers provide. read more

Once this was brought to Borter's attention, Brett was quick to follow up with me.
