My heat went out and the error code read that it was a bad pressure switch. I could not locate the part and had to call for service. They came and charged a $98 diagnotsic fee. Most places waive that if you have them repair the unit, they didn't . They didn't have a new switch but had used switch that could work until they could come back with actual part. I researched the part and it cost anywhere from 15-50 bucks. They said it would cost another $ 304 to install new part. The part is in the open and is literally 1 screw and reattached two wires and a hose. 5 min job tops.I said that was ridiculous .Keep in mind that this was after the temp part was on. He said well he could take that part off and it would cost me the 98 dollars, i could buy the temp part for $ 200 along with the $98 or proceed. I had no real choice because it would be two days to get a new part and it was cold.This company took advantage because they knew i was in a bad spot . I don't blame companies for making a buck but $402 dollars to install a $25 part is shameful. They got my money but they will get me bad mouthing them to every neighbor i speak to. Do yourself a favor and buy the replacement parts so that you have them.This type of business practice is what gives the service industry a bad name. read more

Borter came out on very short notice in the middle of January and diagnosed and replaced our furnace. They were very polite and quick to respond. Ian came out and was very knowledgeable and explained why our 17 year old furnace was not worth repairing. Steve, one of the owners, then came out to give us a quote. He also lent us several space heaters to keep us warm until the next morning when they came out to replace the furnace. Kevin and Ken did the work and were wonderful. They were knowledgeable, professional and helpful. They are not the cheapest, but they do quality work and go above and beyond. Great family owned business. read more

Seriously? I will admit, the guys at Borter did an OK job installing a new furnace in 2010, and I trusted them with thousands more dollars to install an AC unit in 2013. But every year, there are problems with both. I pay the $189 tune up for the AC, now the heater doesn't work. Last year paid for the heater tune up, and then air conditioner wasn't draining properly and leaked all over. Sure, they come right away and fix it ... but wow, I expect a brand new furnace and AC unit to NOT NEED a service call every stinking year. Oh yeah, the heater tune up expired, so now I gotta fork over another $189. The original units were 20 years old and worked fine. lol read more

We have been using Borter for years for yearly maintenance and repairs on our boiler, always great service. We just had the old boiler replaced and the job they did was wonderful, a very clean install. The old boiler and piping looked like a cross between a jungle gym and modern art. Do not deal with them unless you want to break the bank. I called them because my property manager said they work in our condo association. They charge $178 just to come out, and if you want to think about the thousands of $$ they will quote you for the job, they will charge you again $178 to come and do the job. Call Bob with Priority One Heating and Cooling, you will save yourself time and 1/2 of the money. I had a difficult issue with replacing AC on the roof without any access and they did it in 1.5 hours for half of the price. Borter wanted to charge me $3500 for the new AC, plus potentially charging me $3000 for the new heater when mine was 2 months old! They said they were not sure if they will be compatible together.... read more

We have had our very old HVAC system serviced by Borter for years, and they have always been reliable, responsive, competent, and helpful with both routine and emergency service. We recently had some new appliances installed, and they were wonderful to work with from start to finish. The heat went out on our furnace and needed a replacement ignitor. The repairman came and said that he would need to pick up the replacement part and that the part would cost $362 in addition to the 80 something diagnotic fee. I looked up the same part (same model number and everything) and found it online for $37. I am extremely disappointed in Borter and feel like they tried to take advantage of me because our heat was out and we were in a bind. We decided to fix the part ourselves. read more

Borter Heating is the best company in the area for new furnace or hot water boiler installations. They installed a Lenox boiler in my parent's home in 2012 and they did a top notch job. The truth came from the county inspector to fulfill the requirements of the permit. The inspector said that if Borter installed it, then it won't have any problems. I've owned my home about a year and a few weeks ago my AC went down, the previous service sticker on the furnace was from Borter, so I took a chance without researching. The tech arrived the next day, advised that it would be an $89.00 fee to diagnose the problem. In approx. 10 minute he came back and advised that a capacitor had burned out, returned a few minutes later and advised that the cost of the part (installed was $247.00. Assuming they were a trustworthy organization I agreed. In approx. 10 minutes the system was up and running. The total charges were $330.00 that I paid on the spot. The tech advised that he could not dispose of the part so he left it with me. A few days later out of curiosity I looked up the part online to find that it is widely available for $19.90. I called the office and eventually spoke to Gary - service manager and explained my concern. Gary proceeded to provide an elementary explanation of the cost of operating a business, trucks, office staff, telephone expenses, stocking fees, etc. I explained that I understood all of that and simply wanted his opinion if he felt this was a fair price for the part and installation to which he replied that he prices based on "national statistics". When I stated that I felt the cost was excessive and I would share my opinion widely he said you accepted the bid, he didn't like being threatened and then he hung up. A/C is working fine however these guys are all about taking a shot at the customer and when questioned they're simply not smart or honest enough to admit it and resolve it. Now when I look here it's apparent that others have had bad experiences as well, suggest you look for service elsewhere. read more

I was very pleased with the company last year when they fixed my air conditioner- I thought the capacitor was going out again so I called them again. Turns out it was just the presets on my thermostat. I understand I should be charged for the service call, but $89 for five minutes of work?????? In the middle of the night, my heat went out with it being -10 outside. A couple of weeks previously, another heating business had told me that I absolutely needed a new furnace. I insisted that they help me change a somewhat complicated filter because the thermostat was blinking "filter." The first guy declined, and changed a sensor. He really put on the pressure to buy a new furnace. So much so, I felt uncomfortable. (he stayed and visited for 20 minutes after while his wife sat in the running car outside, -10 degrees). The next day, after the furnace stopped working again, I called and asked for a different repairperson, who did help me change the filter, but also said I needed a new furnace. So when I called Borter, I assumed the other guys were right and I was going to be buying a furnace. JOE, who was professional and knowledgable, said I needed a new thermostat. He fixed it and I have had no problem since. Joe also said he didn't see anything wrong with my furnace. Joe said he could get parts if I ever needed them for this furnace, something the other guys said they couldn't get. I am so grateful. I would have given five stars based on my experience with Joe, but they are expensive. I will never call anyone else. Thanks, guys. read more
