I believe Boss Tea is one of only two boba shops in Beacon Hill/Rainier Valley, with the other being Happy Lemon. Since I'm more fond of supporting Mom & Pop shops, I decided to stop by Boss Tea first. This boba shop is shared with a Banh Mi Deluxe - in fact, I'm not really sure if it's actually a separate business at all and just has different signage outside. At any rate, the place is basically take out only. While there are four stools available, the counter space is taken over by potted plants, so there's not really any flat surface to rest any drinks or food. That works for me, but it's something to be aware of. Since this was my first visit, I went with the black milk tea/special. Boss Black Milk Tea, Less Sweet, Less Ice w/ Boba ($6.75) - This is a mixture of two different types of brewed tea, mixed with liquid creamer and syrup. The creamer and syrup are hand measured and mixed, so it's not as consistent as other shops using machines. Each sip has a pretty harsh sweetness that really hits the back of the throat. The drink is pretty creamy and the tea has almost a bit of a spiced note to it. Still, overall I found the sweetness to be too harsh and overpowering. There's a slight fruity sweetness on the exterior of the boba. The boba is soft and the texture feels kind of like a particularly leathery jelly. The teeth slice through the pearls easily with little bounce back. The pearls stiffen up a bit as they sit in the cold drink, which increases the firmness and bounce a little bit, but they never reach an especially bouncy state. I think this might be old boba that wasn't rotated correctly. They give a lot of boba in the cup, but unfortunately it's just not that pleasant to eat. I ordered 6 drinks today and I was a little disappointed in the boba. The boba was old texture boba, I know that because I used to work at a restaurant before. The drinks are decent definitely need more tea flavor to it. Service was great today, very friendly. It's a small shop with banh mi, roasted pork, ducks, and party trays to order. I visited Boss Tea after having dinner nearby, and it was a good spot for a beverage. Boss Tea is a small Vietnamese shop on Rainier Avenue that offers small dishes and a whole menu of different boba drinks to try. On a Saturday evening I was pleasantly surprised to find that Boss Tea was still open after we ate dinner, and there were a few people getting takeout here. Although they serve lots of different Vietnamese bites, I came here for a beverage for the drive home. I was pleased to find that they had a lot of different ube drinks, which is my favorite! Since I didn't want anything with caffeine, I ordered an ube milk latte, which didn't take long to get. The drink was tasty, with lots of ube flavor. We usually go to Tony's bakery for banh mi sandwiches, but this morning my boyfriend and I were craving bubble tea. It's hard because on a Saturday morning at 10AM, bubble tea places tend not to open until 11-12pm. Well we searched up Yelp and found Boss Tea just a block away serving banh mi sandwiches AND bubble tea, amazing! I got the egg & avocado banh mi and added ham to it- like a breakfast sandwich egg, ham, and avocado, and my boyfriend got their grilled pork and egg banh mi. Sandwiches were delicious! It's also a plus that you have the option to customize your sandwich as well. We can't wait to come back to try some of their more non-traditional banh mis like the roast pork, duck, and there was even lobster on the menu! We also picked up a peach black tea and a matcha mango. Both were very good. I find that sometimes matcha drinks don't have enough of a matcha taste but there is plenty here! I visited here with my sister today, we ordered a few different coffee lattes and a lemongrass tofu banh mi for my hubs. I had the ube coffee latte and the tiramisu coffee latte. My sister ordered the pink butterfly and strawberry milk latte. All of it was good, my sister is super upset that there isn't a place like this near her so everytime she comes over we have to get drinks like this. She 100% recommends the strawberry milk latte if you like strawberry type drinks, the tiramisu coffee latte was too sweet for me so next time I'll order it with less sugar. Welp, never knew of this place until my mom brought me some boba and banh mi for lunch. Came by here the other day just to check it out myself and overall, I do like this spot for its potential. Some things to note: Venue: Located right next to the Rainier BBQ Restaurant; plenty of parking in the back lot. Note - the place itself is superrrrrr small, so don't be surprised if there's a line of some sort as people try to social distance. Banh Mi: Tons of options but prices are a bit on the higher side. Tried a few options here and overall, banh mi is pretty good with fresh ingredients and plentiful of meat. Other food: If you're looking to do some party trays of food or want to try other things in general, this place has a bit of everything. Boba: Menu is pretty extensive. I do like how there are some pretty unique options and if you want to upgrade your cup to the Boss Man bottle, it's an extra $3 for that IG aesthetic. My favorite drink here so far is the: Hurricane Matcha and Orange Lemongrass Peach Tea. Regular sweetness level here is pretty sweeeeeet, so make sure to request an adjustment if you don't like your drink too sweet. Pretty good! Loved how chewy my boba was. Their ice is square cube shaped, I know most people want to know with ice preference. This place is worth the drive and shares the same interior with banhmi sandwiches. No fresh fruit or fresh take but if you're looking for something sweet and refreshing this place is it. This place is great! The deluxe Bánh mí was delicious with flavorful and crunchy pork belly! The bread was toasty yet easy to chew and the veggies tasted super fresh. We like spicy food so we added some siracha to the peanut sauce and also added that to the banh mi The boba was pretty good! This place has boba AND banh mi! So I had to get both! Parking is a little tricky to find but just be sure you park behind the storefront and it'll be way easier. There's an ample amount. As for the banh mi, I tried the deluxe banh mi crispy roasted pork belly (A1). It was so flavorful but unfortunately there was an inconsistent texture of crunchy/burnt and chewy/fatty. But all the other toppings tasted super well with it! As for the boba, I tried the hurricane matcha, which sadly, did not turn out well. The matcha powder to milk ratio must have been off because the matcha powder was clumpy and not mixed well. Getting a matcha drink was a risk since it has to be mixed super well and if it's not, it's absolutely undrinkable. If I were to go again, I'd definitely try something safer like a coconut milk tea or jasmine milk tea. At least the drink looked really pretty! read more

Tried this place for the first time bc it's near my grandparents home and this is a new boba shop in the area so I wanted to give it a try but tbh I am not a fan, one sip of this and it tasted like tea that was bitter and has been sitting for a long time and didn't taste like there was any honey in there and if there was it was honey that wasn't honey. I mixed it multiple times to make sure the flavor is mixed but after taking a couple of sips I couldn't drink it. Holy moly. This place is a new favorite! Their sandwiches are the BEST banh mi sandwiches I have had. They make them so flavorful. My favorite is the lemongrass tofu sandwich and tofu spring rolls. First of all, the sandwich is only around $5, and they are pretty big. The boba is always warm and soft as it should be--too many place in Washington have really low tier boba, but Boss Tea does it right. The tofu spring rolls are also very big and super flavorful. At other places, the tofu spring rolls are an afterthought, with cold unseasoned tofu added to lettuce and wrapped in rice paper. Not at Boss Tea; here, they make the tofu with lemongrass too and season the entire rolls. The only thing to be wary of is the venue itself. It is pretty small, and in these times, you can't really social distance properly inside. They allow maximum of 6 customers inside, but realistically, only 2 people can be 6 feet apart inside. read more

This is the second time coming here. We decided to do both iced and not hot this time. The hot the first time ended up not being hot. It was better this time for sure. I ordered the Matcha Hurricane and it was bomb! Hahaha I even licked the inside of the cup to try the matcha hurricane swirl. It was soooo good! One downside is the matcha powder didn't dissolve all the way, so the bottom had a lot of it left. The normal sugar level is 50%. If it was 100% it probably would've been too sweet for my liking. Honestly I had a super weird experience here. The tea shop is located next to a BBQ restaurant and the walk up to the Boas Tea door smells terribly of garbage and oil. When I got inside it was dark and hot. I was hoping to get a blended drink, but they only do shaken teas at Boss Tea. The guy making the bubble tea asked me to Venmo him instead of pay with a debit card. I thought that was a super weird request, seeing as the Venmo account is not linked to Boss Tea... my tea was served on ice but was somehow very warm. The boba was mushy and overcooked. The Banh Mi is pretty good but the drink is really bad. About the Banh Mi, the meat and all the veg are well together but the baguette is not crunchy enough. However, in general, it is a decent pork belly banh mi that not many places serve this well. For the drink, we ordered ube coffee, and vietnamese coffee and they are all not good. The coffee flavor is plain and the uber extract is too sweet and artificial (I know most ube extract is artificial but this one tasted like a low quality one). We also ordered a flavored tea but there is no tea flavor, only the sweetness from the syrup. For the service, I would say the cashier is not really friendly but it might be because it is crowded and only one person does all the jobs (cashier and drink) Overall, I would recommend to try the Banh Mi but not the drink read more

This place is a gem for Vietnamese sandwiches. For 5 dollars, you can't get better than this place! The pork sandwich was so good, bread was crispy but soft on the inside. Veggies were plentiful and the pate gave it a nice taste. There was a lot of pork in it too! Most likely prepared with fish sauce. I would most definitely come here just for their banh mis. I ordered 4 drinks, 2 which they prepared incorrectly. They switched up the sugar content of two drinks which was really unfortunate. Here, 50% sugar is normal sweetness. If you want "less" sugar, you ask for 25% but even then it was still so sweet. I probably would not come here again for their milk tea, although the cups were cute, since it was pretty confusing and they charge you for no ice, but for banh mis I'd go out of my way to visit. read more
