Hot Mess (bottom) and custom burger (top)

For a popular burger joint, it's expensive for what it is and underwhelming. The chips are stale and it's barely customizable. More flashy with its excessive ingredients that it's hard to taste individual components. A custom burger is also more expensive than the standard ones offered ($14 at minimum for just the meat). Service is alright. My burger had cheese but they forgot it and then they brought me a plate with two slices of cold cheese. Ambiance is rustic with booths and high top chairs/booths. 4/10 food overall. I wouldn't recommend it

I once had a veggie burger here from a catered event. It was not very clear to me whether the veggie burger and bun were vegan or not, but my guess is that they are. The burger and fries were decent, probably much better at the restaurant.

I came here for dinner and had a great time. This casual spot offers a variety of burgers, sandwiches, salads, and other small bites. Service here is pretty quick and very attentive. I got their ranch BLT (with the ranch on the side) and chips were also included. It was delicious but I just wish that the bacon strips were a bit bigger. Chips were also salted nicely but weren't very crispy. Overall, not a bad spot for a casual burger.

Sat at the bar and enjoyed a burger and a beer with my daughter before a game at Fenway. Plenty of good choices on the menu. I had the Alpine which is a burger topped with garlic Parmesan mushrooms and Swiss cheese. It came out rare, as I had ordered it. The roll was fresh. The house made chips were yummy. I ordered coleslaw which was standard. I enjoyed a pint of The Substance from Bissell Brothers. All good. Service was very good. No complaints. They have #Freakfrappes on the menu, which we did not get. They are absolutely huge! Glad we stopped by.

Great burger spot right near Fenway. My mom and I came for the Boston marathon and needed something quick and delicious. Service was fast and the food was delicious.

Beautiful fall day. Sit outside and watch all the music students walking to class. The Buffalo burger. Melted blue cheese on top and smothered with franks hot sauce. The burger is big, and the sauce will drip down your arm. Home made crunchy chips. And the Boston beans are wonderful. Overall a solid burger and awesome place to be.

Service was great! I got a gluten free bun on my burger, which I was glad they had! Unfortunately, it was fairly dry and crumbled. The moisture that was in my burger was quickly soaked up into the bun leaving an unpleasant dry burger with hints of balsamic and great flavors pulling through. I'm fairly certain that Hamilton, our server noticed that I was not eating and asked but I declined to elaborate as I was honestly happy to find did I could eat and he was so helpful! I was warned of cross contamination of fries (I appreciated that heads up) and accepted that risk as long as they were not battered or coated; unfortunately upon arrival, they were coated. Hubby really enjoyed his burger and the shakes looked incredible! The chips were really good!! I was sad that the beans were what I'll remember Boston Beans as, I'll make my own back in Arizona...

We accidentally showed up before they even opened (classic us), but instead of shooing us away they let us sit inside with ice-cold water. MVP move. Service was solid the whole meal -- just took a little longer to cash out at the end. I got the Killer Bee burger and wow... it was messy, sweet, spicy, crunchy, cheesy -- basically everything you want in a burger. And yes, I actually finished it. My son made his own creation loaded with veggies and demolished the whole thing too. The only heartbreak? No room left for one of their outrageous Freakfrappes. They looked ridiculous in the best way. Next time, I'm starting with dessert.

    Kids Mac & Cheese Bites
    Jessica M.

I brought my kids to BBCo after a trip to the MFA. There was something for everyone, which was perfect. My kids liked their meals although my son wasn't crazy about the cheese in the Mac & cheese bites. Not sure what they used, but they weren't his favorite. The other kids meals - the grilled cheese and cheeseburger were good, zero complaints. And all the kids liked the chips. The chicken caprese sandwich was excellent! The flavors melded well together and the chicken was juicy. It usually comes with chips but I declined them. We had to round out with one of the giant frappes. The kids devoured it in about 30 seconds. I managed to get a sip and a taste, and can confirm that it tastes as good as it looked. My only complaint about the whole lunch was that service is slow. It was two hours from sit down to leaving and we could've done it in an hour easily. Our waiter was incredibly busy, working the bar seating and tables - I can't fault him. I'm not sure if it's staffing, but the guy could have used some help.

    Sampler Hot Mess

We were greeted and seated quickly. Drink and appetizer order was taken within minutes and our drinks were on the table less than 3 minutes later! The food: Sampler appetizer, Hot Mess Burger, and Boston Burger were amazing. I have nothing but positives to say about this place!

We came back because the food was awesome. They weren't too busy, but I'm sure it was because of the freezing cold. But the service was honestly horrible. We were sat past the kitchen window where a few staff members all hung out on their phones. Our server finally came over to get our drink orders, and we asked for a couple minutes to decide. The server did not come back over for well over 15 minutes, and I tried to get his attention but he avoided contact and just kept checking his phone. Him taking our food order was the last time we saw him until after we were done with our food. Our app came out and then the burgers right after. Again the food is amazing, and for the first time we got the frappes. The holy cannoli was amazing. The place has a great vibe, and kept really clean. I totally suggest this place for the food. I'm hoping that the service was just a fluke for the night.

    Wicked Hot Burger
    Sean P.

I'll start by saying that the service was terrible. Our waitress took a long time for every single thing and was standing around chitchatting most of the time. There were only about 3 tables with people, so when you are waiting 10 minutes to order, it's a bit frustrating. However, the food was very good. The garlic parm fries were solid, and the Wicked Hot burger was right up my alley with great flavor! I'd highly recommend it, and it's not overly spicy for those who might worry. This is probably more like a 3.5-star due to the service being so bad, but I'll still keep it as a 4 on here (due to limitations) because the burger was overall really good.

    Brandon N.

I have never had anything bad here. Sadly I usually eat it all before remembering to take photos. The only think I haven't tried is the massive sundaes but I'm sure if you have a sweet tooth it's good. Every time I go to Boston I try to figure out a way to bring this home.

Looking at going at 5pm on Saturday before the 7pm Red Sox/Yankees game. Do you think the wait will be long?

    Do they do reservation?

Yeah kinda. Add name in advance of visit to wait list via website.

How long is the wait on a Saturday night around 5:00 p.m.?

Use the Yelp waitlist! We went on a Saturday night and I believe the wait was about 45 minutes but with the Yelp waitlist, we didn't wait long at the restaurant.

    Is it gluten free?

There are gluten free options. I believe you can get the burgers wrapped in lettuce if you want also.

As the name "Mercato" implies, it's not a restaurant, so no place to eat, no place to "do your business" after, and if you've made it to the north end, you already know there's no place to park. -- Italian Sandwich: Long, soft bread, kinda like the kind you had in your school cafeteria, only a million times softer, a million times more crackly, and a million times better. Setting the base are oil, balsamic vinegar, lettuce, tomato, pickles, hots, and provolone. Italian sandwiches usually come flat-stacked or in a C-shape. Here, it's a fluffy stack, with the VERY-thin-sliced-to-order meats-- prosciutto, mortadella, salami-- piled generously but delicately, like tissue paper. More oil and balsamic on the other side seals the deal. It's a glorious sandwich that'll fill you up with the first half, but you'll want to keep eating the second half, because it's so good. The deep flavors of the meats comes through, and that's soft, crunchy bread is a delight. Pro tip #1: Get it with a small side of pesto. Have some bites with, some bites without. The catering was impressive. Before anyone even took a bite. Every half sandwich was individually wrapped and clearly labeled, with salads and sides neatly organized, making it easy for a large group to grab lunch without the usual catering chaos. The choices were wide and varied. We took our lunches upstairs to a rooftop seating area overlooking the Seaport, which made for a pretty great setting on a beautiful afternoon. I chose the Gobbler, and it lived up to the hype I've since read in other reviews. At first glance it sounds like a Thanksgiving leftover sandwich, but it's much more than that. The turkey was fresh and flavorful, and it was complemented by stuffing, cranberry sauce, spinach, pepper jack cheese, and just enough chipotle mayo to add an unexpected kick, without overwhelming everything else. It's one of those combinations that sounds busy on paper but comes together remarkably well. I spoke with several others over lunch, and they were equally impressed with their choices. That's always a good sign when you're feeding a crowd. It's one thing to make a great sandwich to order; it's another to deliver dozens of them catered while maintaining that level of quality. Since this was catered, I can't really comment on the restaurant itself. The service on the catering side, however, was evident in how thoughtfully everything was prepared and packaged, and the rooftop setting where we enjoyed lunch certainly didn't hurt. Needless to say, this won't be my last Sam LaGrassa's sandwich. I fully intend to visit the restaurant one of these days, and in the meantime I'll spend some time trying to recreate that Gobbler at home (maybe with sliced roasted chicken, but also with turkey when I have it). It was that good.

I would give the burrito 4 out of 5 stars because of the way it was wrapped - about a third of the burrito was just egg and cheese and the toppings (avocado, red onion, hash browns, salsa verde, crema) were crammed on the other side of the burrito. If there was a way for the burrito to be wrapped so all the ingredients were more evenly distributed - this would easily be a 5/5 breakfast burrito.
