From the moment you step through the door at CHARLIES SANDWICH SHOPPE nestled on the bustling corner of COLUMBUS AVE in BOSTON you're not just entering a restaurant, you're embarking on a tasting adventure. The warm glow of the artfully placed lighting bathes the space, creating an intimate yet elegant ambiance that's immediately inviting. The soft hum of conversation and the clinking of glasses provide a delightful soundtrack to your evening, perfectly complementing the restaurant's charming decor. The menu at is a masterpiece of nostalgic eats try everything. The creativity and passion of the cooks shine through in every bite, transforming familiar flavors into something truly memorable. Florentine Benedict

I had an okay brunch at Charlie's Sandwich Shoppe. I got the Florentine Benedict, and it was good - it wasn't amazing, but I did enjoy it. However, I didn't like how there were no substitutions. I did not like any of the sides that came with my order, so I asked for a side of fruit instead, but they charged me $7 extra for the fruit. It would've been nice if there were subs available, or a wider variety of sides. The servers were friendly, and as for the place itself, it is a small, old-fashioned diner - not the nicest ambience, but as good as a diner could be. I was surprised though at the prices - the place is definitely overpriced for a diner. Overall, a good experience - but it wasn't exceptional.

I wasn't sure what to expect based on the mixed Yelp reviews, but found Charlie's to take me back my childhood, eating in diners with my dad and watching the tv in the corner while the local news aired. It's a very tidy diner with stools at the bar and a few tables in the dining room. The kitchen and prep area was extremely clean and I watched the guys in the kitchen wipe down everything after each plate was ready. I ordered the basic b 2-egg breakfast with eggs scrambled, bacon, grits, and toast. I savored the grits which were nicely salted and buttery. I then slathered my rye toast with butter and orange marmalade which transported me to meals around the family table. The food and service was very good, not looking for any Michelin stars, but believes in what they serve.

Cozy diner. Good value for a lot of food. We got the hash it up with Turkey hash and the triple play and were stuffed. Pancakes were so fluffy . Took about 20 minutes wait to get in on a Saturday at 11. Food served quickly

This is a hidden gem in middle of the south end. Ignoring the noise of the posher or expensive surrounding restaurants, this retro diner is a refreshing break. Despite its name, they serve more than just sandwiches. They have all the diner classics making it a great spot for brunch. The wait isn't too bad. You go inside and put your name down with the number of people in your party, then wait for them call your name. We waited not more than 15 mins on a Sunday afternoon. The turkey hash was vaguely curry tasting which was unexpected but tasty! The buttermilk biscuits and gravy sausages were good, but could've used way more meat and flavor. The biscuits were great though. The eggs Florentine are a classic for a reason, they always hit. These prices are phenomenal as well. The staff is efficient and attentive despite being so busy in the small square foot area.

Came here for breakfast. Ordered the traditional eggs beny, a side of cornbeef hash, and toast. Everything was good. The cornbeef hash was better than the one I tried yesterday so that was a plus. Service was attentive, efficient and welcoming. Definitely would come back...maybe at lunch to try some of the sandwiches

I'm from California visiting my son in Boston, he told me about a spot around the corner from him Charlie's. It did not disappoint. The place was small and cozy. Charlie's is no joke, with a full bar, counter seating and tables it was perfect. As we walked in I noticed a board with the days specials, haddock sandwich or fish n chips, we both opted for the haddock sandwich, it was accompanied by fries, a small cup of coleslaw. The sandwich was served on a Brioche bun w lettuce, tomato mayo along w homemade tater sauce. Simply amazing. You can't go wrong here..

Norwegian Omelet Special - was ok.

Mediocre diner-style restaurant. We came on a Sunday and were surprised that there were open tables and no line, but it was nice to be seated immediately because we expected a wait based on the reviews. Our waitress was pleasant but the food was pretty mediocre. One person ordered the Norwegian omelette special, which seems to have been the best item ordered even though there was an entire slice of unmelted cheese sticking out. The breakfast burrito was ok, pretty bland flavors. The home-fries looked undercooked. Another person ordered the hangover burger and didn't have much to say about it. They have "chicken finger and waffles" and "buttermilk chicken with biscuits and gravy" so I asked if I could order the buttermilk chicken on a waffle. The waitress had to check with the kitchen, who agreed to make it "because it was slow." It was essentially a breaded chicken cutlet, sliced into strips on a waffle that looked like a DIY hotel continental breakfast one. Truly bizarre. Everything had the same colorless look. Random, but it is disappointing to see so many single use condiments (butter packs, Philadelphia cream cheese pack, creamer pack, little cups of capers, salsa, etc., lots of wasted plastic. Can't say we're rushing to come back.

Charlie's is one of my favorite discoveries since moving to Boston a year ago! The first time I tried Charlie's, I came for a hungover breakfast. It hit the spot. Second time, I brought my friends while visiting and got my usual - the Eggs & Cakes special. I will say, I got home fries both times and they were definitely better the second time. For a $12ish breakfast this is incredibly worth it. The third time, I went literally the day after the 2nd. I got the Hangover sandwich. Hands down the best breakfast sandwich I've ever had. The name fits exactly what it's meant for. I decided to order hasbrowns this time & I think they're much better than the home fries. I've had the same waitress all 3 times I've been & I wish I knew her name! She is quick on her feet, friendly, and accommodating. The atmosphere is unreal. The food is unreal. The service is unreal. I am basically a regular at this point.

Italian Sub: $20 for a foot long, the meat was so plentiful it's almost overflowing, enough for two meals. The prisciutto was tender and juicy; the salami was firm and savory with a strong smokiness. Both are thinly sliced, so despite the thick stack, it was relatively easy for a bite. The provolone cheese was also generously portioned, with a robust yet not spicy flavor and a subtle nutty aroma, perfectly complementing the two meats. The olive oil and balsamic vinegar were particularly outstanding: mellow, tangy, and with a fruity aroma of grapes, key to the complex flavor profile. The lettuce, tomatoes, and onions were all fresh, especially the onions were refreshing and a little zingy, perfect for removing the greasiness. Unfortunately, I was worried about not being able to roll it back up properly and making it inconvenient to carry (which it actually happened), so I took it away and ate it at the office. After about 40 minutes, the bread had become somewhat dry and hard.

I've eaten here before (it's a small area, but does have a lot of seating) but normally I get it as take out. The cafe itself is super casual, it's the perfect place to pop into during lunch or after a walk. My food is always ready on time which is nice, and when I've eaten there I'm usually able to find a seat. The spinach tortellini with the pesto cream sauce is my absolute favorite- it's a HUGE portion and so delicious. It usually lasts me at least 2 meals. The bread they include is also great! I like to dip it in the sauce. The past time I got Dino's I accidentally ordered spinach ravioli instead of tortellini...that was my bad. HOWEVER I think I might have found my new favorite? The raviolis are huge and so fat. I'm talking like 1/2 inch - 3/4 inch thick. There is so much stuffing and the spinach ricotta mix tastes so fresh and delicious...it's a must try. I've also gotten the eggplant parm before, and the fettuccini Alfredo. Both were also delicious. I've never had any of the sandwiches, but if they are anything like their pastas then I'm sure they are great! The bang for your buck here is also great which is nice. Highly recommend! Dinos is awesome! And the staff is very kind too (Note that the pic is taken from a train, I like to treat myself to Dino's before catching the Amtrak)

Every search for…read morebreakfast spots mentioned Mike & Patty's as a must stop for the best breakfast sandwich you're going to get anywhere. Enough said! I'm a huge breakfast fanatic, especially a good breakfast sandwich or burrito. This is the original location that was started by two friends and has grown to multiple other locations since. We took an Uber here from our hotel. I imagine if you drive over here, parking will be a challenge. It's almost easy to miss. It sits on a corner of a brick building with just writing on the windows. In all my research I did not catch that it is the smallest restaurant in Boston at only 175 square feet. It's basically a room with most of the space taken by the tiny kitchen. There's also a little tiny ledge on the window with a couple of stools for those who may want to dine in. Customers including us took turns walking in and putting in our orders and then stepping out to make room for more people. It had a steady line the whole time we were there. Hours are limited from 7:30-2 so don't delay. Customer service was straight business, kind of the norm in Boston. Their menu is breakfast sandwiches, a couple of burritos and some lunch options like a turkey sandwich, BLT, or a Rueben. For sides, they have hashbrowns or a plain English muffin. For a small menu, they do have quite a few drink options like coffee, tea, juices, and different flavored milks including banana milk which I have never seen. For their food, they use high quality ingredients from local farms and purveyors and have their own bakery for their bread. My eyes fixated on the Breakfast Grilled Crack mainly for the name, but also all the ingredients looked tasty. It was quality eggs, bacon, four cheeses on sourdough bread. I went extra and added sausage to it as well. I also got OJ to wash it down. We realized our only option to eat comfortably was to go back to our hotel lobby to eat. Even with the travel time, the sandwich was nice and warm and the bread was still nice and crispy from the griddle. This sandwich was indeed one of the best breakfast sandwiches I have ever had. I almost felt guilty eating it because of how rich and cheesy it was. I would skip the hash brown next time. It did not travel well nor did it have anything special going on with it. Hands down one of my favorite meals of the trip that I would absolutely do again if I am in the area.
