Boston Shawarma is in the Northeastern area, a short walk up Huntington Avenue from the MFA. Five stars because the price is low for food this tasty, and because it's my favorite place to have lunch in the area. In many ways it's a typical Middle Eastern cafe, but typical Middle Eastern cafes are great values, and Boston Shawarma is above average. Yummy and affordable shawarma! The perfect end to an afternoon at the MFA, Boston Shawarma is a quick walk from the museum. There were about six tables and a seating counter next to the window. It's a low key place, and it's about the food, not the atmosphere. On top of the desserts case they had free samples of some kind of sweet. I don't remember the name of it, but it was really good, and you could take as many pieces as you wanted. The lamb shawarma wrap me and my boyfriend each had was big - one would have been enough to feed two - but I ate all of mine because it was so good. It is spicy; so be forewarned - and they didn't have any free water that I could see (although they did sell bottled water). It also gets messy, since the sauce and some of the fillings tend to fall out as you are eating. Just get some extra napkins and you'll be fine. For dessert, we had the basbousa and the baklava. Very very sweet, as Middle Eastern desserts tend to be, but it was a great end to the spicy meal. The rice pudding looked really good too, but I didn't get a chance to try it. I'd definitely go back! I ordered food for delivery from here for me and my friend. The food just looked old and very dry, that should have been my first warning. When I started eating, the food had a weird taste, wasn't sure if it was the garlic sauce that the food was swimming in but after a few bites of my shawarma salad, I decided that I was done. My friend had the shawarma plate and although her food wasn't covered in the same sauce my salad was, she said it didn't taste great. A few hours later, my friend called me to ask if I was feeling ok, because she puked her dinner. Although I didn't vomit, my stomach was in turns for the rest of the night. I have a feeling that they are reheating old food, and not serving fresh product. I will never be eating here again, and would not recommend it. THE BEST SPENT $10 IN BOSTON. There are few places in Boston where $10 will get you much of anything these days, granted a fantastic meal. But look no further, because if you have a 10-spot in your pocket and are craving a mind blowing meal, go to Boston Shawarma. What makes BS so delicious? I would put it up against any shawarma I've even had from back home around Dearborn in Michigan (the unofficial capital of middle eastern food, look it up!). You can taste all the fantastic flavors and freshness at BS. And most importantly you can taste a very subtle charred taste to the meat (in my case the chicken, which I always get). Even for a hefty eater like myself, I often have leftovers because you literally get so much food. They are very heavy handed with the rice and chicken, and while I'm not a big fan of the fattoush salad, the hummus and hot sauce are on point. Plus they give you a healthy portion of fries too. I can't attest to the rest of the dishes on the menu but hey, if it ain't broke, don't fix it right? Love me some Boston Shawarma. read more

Stopped in here before a concert at New England Conservatory. It's not fancy by any means, but it's homey (if a little run-down) and seemed authentic (always a good sign in an ethnic restaurant when you feel overly white compared to the rest of the clientele). I liked my falafel dinner- the falafel had good texture and flavor, although with the enormous pile of rice (light, fluffy, basmati-seeming) it could have used a bit of extra tahini perhaps. My boyfriend really liked his beef & lamb shawarma plate (although beware the after-dinner shawarma burps-- they are potent!). There's a definite charm to the owner (I assume) and the handwritten sign "U LIKE MY FOOD - WRITE ABOUT US" -- here I am :) Wish they didn't use styrofoam, even for eat-in :( but what can you do. Good shawarma. I like the chicken shawarma plate with "the spicy sauce". I'd recommend paying with cash though, because me and my friends had our credit cards over-charged on more than one occasion. I'm not a huge fan of the occasional belly dancing / middle-aged Arab lady singing on their TV, but some people seem to enjoy it. Oh, their baklava is good. Yummy shawarmas for an affordable price. Great for the local Northeastern students. Besides their chicken shawarma, I am in love with their homemade baklavas! They are very generous in size and are affordable ($1.75). Most places sell their baklavas for a very high price so I was delighted when I saw Boston Shawarma sell HOMEMADE baklavas for a reasonable one. They also have walnut baklavas, coconut baklavas and other sweets for a little higher price (around $2.50/piece). Though they did a mini-remodeling recently, the atmosphere of the restaurant is VERY casual so do not take your date here! The chicken is always tender, and the large shawarma sandwiches leave me full for hours on end. I find this borderline miraculous, as I otherwise eat once every 2-3 hours. I always feel like I get bang for my buck at Boston Shawarma. Furthermore, I think the owner here is very nice. Recently, I was standing besides my fiance as he ordered a sandwich. I wasn't hungry enough to justify ordering a meal, but I offhandedly commented that their rice puddings looked delicious and that we should get that for dessert next time. I got the chicken shawarma and I devoured it so quickly I almost wanted to order a lamb shawarma right away, but I came to my senses, realized I was totally stuffed, and decided to come back another time to try the lamb. As other reviews have said, it's not a *nice* restaurant but the food is fantastic. They have a summer special: you get a free can of soda or bottle of water with every shawarma! They also had a rose rice pudding $5 that I really wanted to try but thought I'd save it for next time. Won't be back! Mediocre is the best I can say about this symphony area middle eastern restaurant. It's hard to make a lousy felafel, but this came close. The felafel balls were cold (had been sitting too long) and then were too big, resulting in mushy, the undercooked centers. French fries, though plentiful, were undercooked. I didn't try the schwarma, but the chicken looked burnt to me. Definitely still open--not sure why it's tagged as closed... I've been quite a few times and I usually stick to the combo with lamb/beef. It's a wrap literally STUFFED full of tasty meat, falafel and other miscellaneous fixings. The pita is good--not too dry. The meat is good quality (again, my fav is the lamb...you just can't go wrong with that lamb). The falafel is good. The same guy is always behind the counter when I stop by for lunch and he's ALWAYS very nice--don't listen to the other people who say that he's not. They DO take credit cards and have for at least the last year since I started going. I never carry cash and I've never had a problem. Yeah, maybe it's not the nicest interior...but people who say it's not clean are probably just put off by a simple interior and being able to look right into the kitchen area. It's definitely not dirty. The food itself would get a solid 3.5 stars but I have to round up for the price. A huge wrap is just under $7 and I can barely finish it...and trust me, I can eat a LOT. Seems like all the places around Northeastern like to charge an arm and a leg for food that really shouldn't be that much...but I can always count on a filling AND inexpensive lunch here. It's food, that's about it. I paid extra for "extra" fries and recieved the same amount as the dish that didn't come with fries. The "salad" was a soggy pile of old rotten lettuce with no dressing. It came in a Styrofoam container, which I haven't seen north of the Mason Dixon line for the better part of a decade. The falafel and babaganoush were actually decent, and there was plenty of it. I actually prefer to make my own falafel because frankly- mine tastes better than most places out there. But one day walking alone in the city(I forget why), and hungry and saw this little shop with falafels. I got one in a wrap, pressed to a crisp, and loaded with veggies. My mom always requests to eat a falafel pita here every time she visits me in Boston. But every time we go, it seems to be going a little downhill. Before, the falafel we're flavorful, moist and delicious. Now they are dry and therefore don't have a great flavor compared to other places in Boston. They also became extremely spicy without request so the first one I ordered in a long time was almost inedible on my spice scale. You wouldn't expect it because the restaurant itself is pretty dingy and the food comes on paper plates/styrofoam containers, but the food is A1, which is all you can really ask for. I tried the gyro dinner plate, which is a huge portion and lasted me two meals. It comes with meat, rice, fries, salad, hummus, and a super spicy hot sauce. The prices are affordable, although I do wish they took Northeastern dining dollars like literally every other restaurant in Huntington, but other than that I would definitely recommend this place if you're in the vicinity of Northeastern. read more

The prices are good, the portions are filling, and the food is great. I've had their shawarma sandwiches, which I like. The meat tastes great, and they're also good if you opt for additional filling like avocado or fries. My favorite from this restaurant, though, is their dinner plate. You get a healthy portion of meat, some rice, a small salad, spicy hummus, and some pita. It's veryyy filling, and reasonably priced considering how much food you actually get. Plus, management is very nice. I've seen the owner regularly hand out free bakery items to dine-in customers before. Never had a bad experience, and I plan on continuing to be a regular. read more

I had previously rated this place very well but last week they got new ownership. The owner is nice, but that doesnt help make the food taste better. I asked for a combo shawarma dinner plate and my gf just got the lamb shawarma. Some how we ended up with the exact same dish. The meat didn't have enough of the white yogurt sauce and worst of all it was burnt. After eating that night my stomach hurt for the rest of that day as well as the next (this has never happened from this place before) I would like to return here, but I need to give it some time while the new management gets its stuff in order. The place is a bit small and could use some updating interior wise, but the food is pretty great for the price I paid, taste and size wise (it's so big for a small Asian). I ordered the beef and lamb shawarma and it was delicious! It was stuffed from top to bottom with meat and the sauce was peppery, which I like. The only wish I had was that it was left in the press a bit longer so that the inside was also warm, not just the pita wrap. Ugh... don't. Just don't go here. As Alyssa F. pointed out, their food is "unspectacular, but edible." I would like to add to that statement and say "edible, but indigestible." The place is dirty and a bit ghetto. I'm not sure their sanitary conditions are up to code, but ok I'll let the health inspector make that judgement. They don't accept credit cards, cash only, which would be fine if I ever carried cash on me. The owner said the credit card machine is broken but I'm convinced he's lying because if he really wanted to he could have had it fixed by now. I went back over a 3 month span and the credit card machine was still not working... It's the year 2009, if you can't accept Visa or MasterCard I don't understand how you intend to survive as a business. read more

Worst service ever!! Really disappointed!! I came after seeing the high reviews here.. I ordered a mix chicken and meat kabobs. he told me that will take 10 mint. Then I repeat my order after noticing him replace the meat kabobs with a regular shawerma meat. He said by then.. Ooh sorry if you want Kabob you have to wait 15 minutes!! I said Ok I would wait and after 15 minutes I asked him again then he said ''sorry my friend kabob needs 1 hour to be prepared" ...!!?? After spending a month in Egypt, I found myself missing some of my favorite foods... like chicken kebab and mmmm basboosa. I was surprised and happy to stumble upon Boston Shawarma on my way home tonight. I stopped in and spoke with Monzer, who took my order. I wanted chicken shawerma, tabouleh and some falafel... oh and basboooooooosa... Monzer filled my plate with rice, chicken, salad, falafel, tahina, sides of garlic sauce, pita bread... wow. I am stuffed. But not enough to ignore the way better tasting than it looked baklawa and surprisingly moist basboosa. And a few spoonfuls of the parsley filled tabouleh, nicely low on bulgar. I hope to visit again before I leave town, My only regret is that I didn't find this place sooner! read more
