We ordered takeout from here after seeing all the great reviews and photos, and I was genuinely excited to try it. Unfortunately, the food ended up being pretty underwhelming for us. I started with the pesto gnocchi, which is usually one of my favorite pasta dishes. However, this version lacked flavor and tasted quite bland. I found myself adding extra cheese and salt just to bring out more taste. Even after that, we only ended up eating about 25% of the dish. For me, this one was a 3/10. We also ordered the Mezzemaniche Boscaiola in pink sauce, which was definitely the stronger of the two dishes. The sauce itself was flavorful, and I appreciated the variety of ingredients, including the onions, peas, sausage, and mushrooms. In fact, I found myself enjoying the vegetables more than the pasta itself. My main issue was that the sausage flavor seemed to overpower the sauce and gave it an off taste. It reminded me of the flavor you get when freshly grilled meat is mixed directly into a sauce--it dominated the dish more than I would have liked. I'd rate this one around a 6/10. That said, there were some positives. The pasta was cooked very well--both the rigatoni and gnocchi had great texture and weren't overcooked or too firm. The food was also still hot when we got it, and the sauces held up impressively during transport. Nothing separated or became oily, which is something that can easily happen with takeout pasta. While I can appreciate the quality of the preparation and packaging, the flavors just weren't a match for my taste. She had made a reservation for Bottega, as other restaurants she had in mind were all booked; but this place seems to have really good reviews. Street parking is a bit difficult, but there are also parking garages nearby. There were many people waiting for a table when we arrived. The restaurant is small and it was a full house that night. We were seated in the upstairs dining area, but it was still very crowded. The tables and chairs were very close together and I don't think the people sitting behind us had space to get up, if they wanted to, since our chairs were touching back to back. There were some communication issues or confusion between the waiters. They didn't seem to know which meals belonged to which table. They were handing plates to the wrong tables and we even received some plates that didn't belong to us. It was a bit unprofessional, as they were dropping off plates to us, then having to take it back to a different table. They also had to check their tablets to see which plate belonged to which party. It was a bit chaotic. When we did receive our correct orders, our food was cold. The only plate that was piping hot was my sister's, which was the last to arrive and took the longest to come out. A few of us didn't enjoy our meal, as some of the pastas were lacking flavor. I however, enjoyed my mushroom ravioli with truffle cream sauce, but, it was cold when I received it. My sister was literally dipping her pasta in my sauce in order to enjoy her plate lol. I ordered vodka pasta to-go for my boyfriend and he also said that his dish lacked flavor. I love Bottega! I recently came back for dinner with my partner and friends during Memorial Day weekend and everything was amazing. We got there right before the dinner rush and were seated right away. The atmosphere in the restaurant was very pleasant. The service was great, our waitress was super kind and attentive even though she was busy with other tables. The complimentary bread was delicious, light, and fluffy. We ordered the fettuccine Alfredo, calzone, build your own pasta (rigatoni with pink sauce and mushrooms), and the Mezzemaniche Boscaiola. Everything was delicious! This is one of my favorite pasta places in SF. I absolutely love the salmon fettuccine - it's always perfectly cooked and amazing sauce. We also got the oxtail ragu, which had a really rich, unique flavor. The fried calamari is fun and comes with mixed vegetables too - always perfectly crispy with a light batter. Also free bread! Service is great and this place is so cute. They have plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, but it does get busy on weekends so it might be a little bit of a wait. read more

Been wanting to try this place for quite some time now so I'm very happy we did! Got their Rigatoni ai Vodka Pink + Trotie al Pesto & Burrata and they were both pretty good! The pesto was very yummy and had a slight smoky flavor to it that paired well with the burrata, while the rigatoni had a slight bit of sweetness that made it taste a bit like rose tteobokki sauce. The pasta texture for both dishes were excellent and perfectly chewy! The restaurant itself is beautiful! I love the flower theme and overall decor of the space. I came here on a Tuesday noon, and there were plenty of space indoors and outdoors! The parking situation is a bit difficult since it is on Valencia Street, so that is something to keep on mind. I love the simplicity of the fettuccine pasta - garlic, cream, Parmigiano Reggiano, cracked pepper, salt. I was hungry but I couldn't finish my pasta at the restaurant. I don't think that fresh garlic was added (it tasted like garlic powder) cream was all in curds (probably with additives such as gums, stabilizers). I could not taste Parmigiano Reggiano, that's typically the highlight. The worst part? Fettuccine leftovers typically taste even better the next day. This was not the case. However, we were seated immediately. Our service was great. I wasn't impressed with the food. Our pasta was split into 2 which they did nicely, the vodka rigatoni. It wasn't anything great as our noodles were a bit undercooked, cold, and lacked flavor. I added a lot of red pepper flakes to compensate. I had heard positive things from friends and colleagues so I suggested this to some friends visiting from out of town and we came here on a weekend evening. The location was packed, so we signed up for the waitlist and waited alongside others on the waitlist before a table freed up. We waited at least 30 minutes, so I'd recommend using the Yelp waitlist if you can. The decor was vibrant and bright, which I think is a big reason the location is popular, like for Instagram-type photos and such. There was indoor and outdoor seating. Our table shared a standard pizza and a few pastas that seemed popular. The food was fair and tasteful. The service was ok. The waiter for our table was polite, and offered some notes when asked about particular menu items. They were pretty straight to the point, like a quick in and out to take our food and drinks order and give us the bill. The food took some time to come out, perhaps more than 20 minutes. I had an ok experience at this location,but it didn't live up to the hype my friends and colleagues raved about. I think it was probably due to it being a very busy night and my expectations were too high. Came to try out this restaurant with friends and it did not disappoint! I loved the ambiance - the interior is so beautifully decorated! I recently visited Bottega in SF with a few friends, and there were quite a few standout dishes. The vodka pink pasta with chicken was creamy, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The waiter recommended the coda alla vaccinara to us, which was an ox-tail ragu that was rich, hearty, and tender. This was my favorite because of the ox-tail element, and the meat was paired well with the wide noodles. The prosciutto pizza was well-balanced and fresh, and this was a close second-favorite. The inside was nice with pink flowers. However, there was a lot of flies circling the center of the restaurant. We order the arancini as an appetizer. Very pea heavy and was the most flavorful. If the sauce in the wasn't with it, it wouldn't have been good. I got the Risotto and my partner got the rigatoni. Both were very good! The risotto had a good amount of mushrooms and sausage, could have been more truffle added. The rigatoni was great and saucy. We started off with calamari and complimentary bread with olive oil and the for our main dish we had margharita pizza with Italian sausage and finished it with tiramisu for dessert. There was a large party of about 15-20 people being attended to, and no one else paid attention to other guests. Once we were finally seated, it took another 15 minutes just for someone to take our order, and the food didn't arrive for another 20 minutes after that. Unfortunately, we were never checked on throughout the meal, which made the service feel inattentive and unorganized. The bartender was so friendly, engaging, joked with us and had a legitimate good time. We really appreciated him. Came back the next night for dinner. It was cool outside but we took an outdoor table. Our waiter took drink orders. While we waited for the drinks, the waiter for the table next to us passed by... we asked for the outdoor heater to be turned on (we were extremely polite). He literally huffed at us and reluctantly turned it on. We thanked him and he ignored the gratitude. Nice looking guy, 20s, tats, crisp white shirt, looked professional but certainly didn't act like it. Food was excellent. All four of us got a different pasta that we thoroughly enjoyed. Drinks were strong and on-point. Wait was a little long but that can be overlooked when considering the quality of food. Service was great, unfortunately our wonderful waiter was shaded by his coworker who had a bit of attitude. After nearly 25 years in customer service and patient care... let me recommend one thing... don't let your teammates ruin your patron's (potentially) perfect experience. Updated review: this place has definitely popped off, especially around dinner time. Everybody had their birthday this particular evening, so all we heard was tables getting their dessert + birthday songs before our table did too! The food was good + pizza was large enough to split with more people, not to mention it was the same price as the pasta, totes worth it. However, the service fell really short this time around. We were a decently large group sat in the middle of the downstairs floor, and we were ready to give our orders in full, but they took our drink orders only at around the 20 minute mark. We weren't able to wave down a server for another half hour after that to place our food orders. It then look longer for them to give us our check, and then to let us pay (on one bill, no split). We reminded them a few times for the birthday dessert surprise, which was fine when it finally came out. It's also a bit overstimulating with the loud music and projector on the wall, so I couldn't talk loud enough over the table with my friends. I read the reviews & spent the money on grubhub (free delivery), to be deeply disappointed. $65 down the drain. The only redeeming thing was the texture of the rigatoni pasta. It Tasted home made but the bland sauce ruined that too. It's not like it only had NO FLAVOR, it was just a bad, bland, musty tomato sauce. Very off. I'm tired of not being in Italy... but Bottega on Valencia gave me my fix. Everything we ordered was exceptional ... the oxtail ragù pasta, the pizza, and especially the "build your own" pasta with tomato sauce. We popped in at 5pm on a Saturday and were seated immediately. There were plenty of open tables until around 7pm when the restaurant started filling up. For apps, we ordered the arancini ($14 for 3), brussel sprouts ($12), and parma ($13 for 4 slices). Everything was great and came out relatively quickly. The arancini came with a pea dipping sauce which was tasty. For mains, we ordered the vodka pink pasta with chicken ($28), mezzemaniche with tomato sauce ($24), salsiccia pizza ($22), and guanciale ($23). By and large, we thought the pastas were better than the pizzas. Both our pastas were rigatoni dishes, and the rigatoni was cooked perfectly - not too al dente but not soggy with a good bite. The rigatoni Bottega uses is on the thicker side, so each piece was relatively substantial. The pizzas were fine but could use more sauce and felt a bit like eating bland bread. Service was great from start to finish - welcoming, attentive, friendly.
