Prosciutto e Burrata Pizza and Oxtail Ragu
    Amanda M.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Cute, aesthetic spot but not the best Italian or pasta spot in Mission.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I would maybe rate 2-2.5 considering my high expectations but I don't think anything was necessarily bad. My friend and I ordered a couple drinks, shrimp scampi, brussel sprouts, prosciutto pizza with burrata and the oxtail ragu. I thought the drinks were OK, but felt there was more ice than drink and light on the alcohol. The shrimp scampi serving and arrangement was just kind of sad, and the brussel sprouts were crispy but kind of plain. I thought the pappardelle noodles and the oxtail ragu was the best item, and they were nice enough to pre-split the dish for us. As for the pizza: it is more of a flatbread arrangement than a traditional pizza, though in all fairness I didn't look closely at pictures beforehand. I love prosciutto and burrata normally, but the layers and arrangement of this pizza was particularly difficult to eat and messy. They have a pretty large menu so I wouldn't discredit that they probably have some other options that are very good, but this all felt pretty disappointing to me. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Also, we were there relatively early on a Friday so I think it was maybe a matter of missing the dinner crowd, but the vibes were pretty slow and quiet inside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The staff was friendly but pretty standard.

To kick off my birthday weekend, my dear friend came to the Bay to celebrate. I requested Italian food since I had been craving it for some time. I heard about Bottega from lots of people, and since we were in the Mission, I thought it would be fun to go! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance is so cute here! Super casual yet lively. Love the little signs and all the pops of color.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]They have both indoor and outdoor dining spaces, so I wouldn't mind dining outdoors next time to bring my pup.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service was great! Super fun server we had, and I appreciated the complimentary birthday dessert. We decided to get a few items and drinks to share. We got the Calamari Fritti, Salmon Fettuccine, and Ribeye. The calamari was crispy and tasted as expected. The salmon was rich, savory, and creamy. The ribeye was flavorful and well-seasoned. I would recommend all of these items as they tasted good and we had leftovers. For lovers of Italian cuisine, Bottega in the Mission is worth a visit. If I were to be in the area, I wouldn't mind coming again! Find them off Valencia Street with street and garage parking nearby. So happy I got to celebrate my birthday here and be treated to a great meal by Terry K.

It's always nice to come upon a good neighborhood Italian restaurant. Ever since Stelline closed in Hayes Valley back in 2015, I haven't settled on one particular place for Italian comfort food, but I can say this is a contender. It had been open for about five years before I finally gave it a try one recent afternoon. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Gratefully they don't close between lunch and dinner like many restaurants, and I was here on an off-hour when only one other table was occupied.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a casual spot and nicely furnished with just enough ambiance to avoid cliche. Even the faux-exposed brick was done modestly.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The menu consisted of a robust cross-section of starters, fried foods, pasta plates, and pizzas. I decided to start with the $12 Insalata de Cesare, a predictable choice for me and a well executed one with crisp croutons, parmigiano shavings, and a garlic aioli that didn't overwhelm like many Caesar dressings (Photo 8). For my main, I ordered the $24 Trofie al Pesto & Butrara because I rarely see it offered on local menus. Trofie is a thin, twisted pasta I first had in the Cinque Terre, and it's usually tossed in pesto. They stayed true to the dish here with a generous serving but topped with a creamy ball of fresh burrata and accompanied with basil leaves and cherry tomatoes (Photo 10). It was delicious though I couldn't quite finish it. It was definitely worthy of a return visit. FOOD - 4 stars...the trofie dish reflected skill and generosity...the focaccia pieces were tasty (Photo 9) [[HIGHLIGHT]]AMBIANCE - 4 stars...pleasant dining space with just enough Italian-style touches[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] SERVICE - 3.5 stars...very efficient and polite TOTAL - 4 stars...satisfying Italian comfort food in a comfortable setting RELATED - Exploring the Mission? I don't know. I feel really bad about leaving this review, but I kind of feel a need to. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance was nice. Clean, colorful and welcoming.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service was not bad. The host seated us right away. Our waiter was very quick and gave off a cold demeanor. The food...ugh, just was not good. The pizza lacked flavor. The fettuccine Alfredo pasta was so bland. 15 minutes in, I called the waiter to ask for some sauce to add some flavor. At that point, he should've checked in and asked if I liked the food, considering my plate was still full, but nothing. He brought me sauce (which he charged for) and it just didn't help make the pasta taste better. They offered us boxes, and when I said I didn't need one (yes my plate was still full) he still didn't ask how was the food? Is everything okay? Nothing. He quickly brought the check and walked away. I would totally understand if the restaurant was super busy and he was in a hurry to serve the other tables. But it was half empty, and the waiters were standing around. I don't know, once again I feel bad, but I felt like the owner needed to know about that's happening.

Walked in on a Saturday evening around 6 pm for an Italian craving. This place was recommended by a close friend so we decided to give it a try. We were sat immediately, the place was busy but they had a table indoor available as well as outdoor seating. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant is quaint and has large windows so enough sunlight gets in, it's the perfect vibe for a quick no frills dinner.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I wouldn't recommend for an intimidate date night here since the tables are so close together.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Food: 3.5/5 We ordered the calamari fritti, pesto chicken pasta and pasta pink. I enjoy that they do a bread service with mushroom focaccia, that was probably the most memorable item. The pasta dishes were nothing crazy and tasted like we could make it at home. It didn't quite scratch that pasta itch for us but it was still okay. Calamari was just fried breading. Great portions Drinks: 4/5 We ordered three hugo spritzes and another drink I forgot the name of. Really great portion for your dime Overall: 3.5/5 Servers are very attentive and incredibly helpful. I would go again if I was in the neighborhood looking for a quick dinner, but there are better options for Italian in the city for sure

We came for dinner after attending my sister's sfsu graduation. She had made a reservation for Bottega, as other restaurants she had in mind were all booked; but this place seems to have really good reviews. Street parking is a bit difficult, but there are also parking garages nearby. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There were many people waiting for a table when we arrived. The restaurant is small and it was a full house that night.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]We were seated in the upstairs dining area, but it was still very crowded. The tables and chairs were very close together and I don't think the people sitting behind us had space to get up, if they wanted to, since our chairs were touching back to back.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] There were some communication issues or confusion between the waiters. They didn't seem to know which meals belonged to which table. They were handing plates to the wrong tables and we even received some plates that didn't belong to us. It was a bit unprofessional, as they were dropping off plates to us, then having to take it back to a different table. They also had to check their tablets to see which plate belonged to which party. It was a bit chaotic. When we did receive our correct orders, our food was cold. The only plate that was piping hot was my sister's, which was the last to arrive and took the longest to come out. A few of us didn't enjoy our meal, as some of the pastas were lacking flavor. I however, enjoyed my mushroom ravioli with truffle cream sauce, but, it was cold when I received it. My sister was literally dipping her pasta in my sauce in order to enjoy her plate lol. I ordered vodka pasta to-go for my boyfriend and he also said that his dish lacked flavor. I tried it, and agreed with him. This experience was very underwhelming and did not live up to the reviews.

    Truffle risotto-YUM
    Amy W.

Norcina is one of my fav Italian pizza spots in the city. Who knew it was related to Bottega. We were meeting friends and they suggested this spot, only when we arrived and looked at the menu did we realize they are same owners. This place seems a bit more expensive though, why is that? some of the drinks were $18+. Anyway - they have my fav Mozzarella en carozza. (translates to "mozzarella in a carriage"). It did used to be better (bigger) and slightly less breaded at Norcina - but still a winner. I ordered the pasta with the sausage and the peas, which is one of their most popular. DELISH! - Hubby got the truffle risotto, which was also good, I just cannot order risotto out anymore bc the Instantpot makes is so well - and for pennies compared to this place. The service was pretty uneven. They kinda wanna rush you through dinner (we asked our waiter to slow the dinner down the service of our apps and dinner - and he did - but he also slowed down our cocktail orders and silverware, etc...which is not what we meant.

    Risotto

We recently had dinner here. The service was too flight and the daily wine list is really good. The Risotto was very tasty as was the Ribeye special. Every neighborhood needs a good Italian comfort food restaurant and Bottega certainly fits the bill.

Mezzemaniche Boscaiola w/ pink sauce & Gnocchi w/ pesto sauce
    Vickie N.

We ordered takeout from here after seeing all the great reviews and photos, and I was genuinely excited to try it. Unfortunately, the food ended up being pretty underwhelming for us. I started with the pesto gnocchi, which is usually one of my favorite pasta dishes. However, this version lacked flavor and tasted quite bland. I found myself adding extra cheese and salt just to bring out more taste. Even after that, we only ended up eating about 25% of the dish. For me, this one was a 3/10. We also ordered the Mezzemaniche Boscaiola in pink sauce, which was definitely the stronger of the two dishes. The sauce itself was flavorful, and I appreciated the variety of ingredients, including the onions, peas, sausage, and mushrooms. In fact, I found myself enjoying the vegetables more than the pasta itself. My main issue was that the sausage flavor seemed to overpower the sauce and gave it an off taste. It reminded me of the flavor you get when freshly grilled meat is mixed directly into a sauce--it dominated the dish more than I would have liked. I'd rate this one around a 6/10. That said, there were some positives. The pasta was cooked very well--both the rigatoni and gnocchi had great texture and weren't overcooked or too firm. The food was also still hot when we got it, and the sauces held up impressively during transport. Nothing separated or became oily, which is something that can easily happen with takeout pasta. While I can appreciate the quality of the preparation and packaging, the flavors just weren't a match for my taste. Unfortunately, I don't see myself returning, but I wish the restaurant continued success

Bottega is a great spot if you're looking for fresh, flavorful Italian food in a cozy atmosphere. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambience was a solid 5/5--warm, inviting, and perfect for a relaxed meal.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We customized both of our pasta dishes, and they turned out amazing. The pesto pasta was packed with flavor and easily a 5/5. The pink sauce pasta was just as delicious, creamy, and well-balanced--another 5/5. The mocktail was also excellent and paired really well with the meal. The Margherita pizza was decent, but the crust was a bit soggy, so I'd give it a 3/5. One thing I appreciated was that the food felt fresh and relatively healthy rather than overly heavy. The portions aren't huge, but they're satisfying and leave you feeling comfortably full instead of stuffed. Overall, I'd definitely come back for the pasta and drinks!

    Oxtail Ragu
    Sammi Y.

This is one of my favorite pasta places in SF. I absolutely love the salmon fettuccine - it's always perfectly cooked and amazing sauce. We also got the oxtail ragu, which had a really rich, unique flavor. The fried calamari is fun and comes with mixed vegetables too - always perfectly crispy with a light batter. Also free bread! Service is great and this place is so cute. They have plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, but it does get busy on weekends so it might be a little bit of a wait.

    Fettuccine 2/5
    Elma C.

I love the simplicity of the fettuccine pasta - garlic, cream, Parmigiano Reggiano, cracked pepper, salt. I was hungry but I couldn't finish my pasta at the restaurant. I don't think that fresh garlic was added (it tasted like garlic powder) cream was all in curds (probably with additives such as gums, stabilizers). I could not taste Parmigiano Reggiano, that's typically the highlight. The worst part? Fettuccine leftovers typically taste even better the next day. This was not the case. I'm probably not going back.

    Rigatoni + Pesto
    Melody L.

Been wanting to try this place for quite some time now so I'm very happy we did! Got their Rigatoni ai Vodka Pink + Trotie al Pesto & Burrata and they were both pretty good! The pesto was very yummy and had a slight smoky flavor to it that paired well with the burrata, while the rigatoni had a slight bit of sweetness that made it taste a bit like rose tteobokki sauce. The pasta texture for both dishes were excellent and perfectly chewy! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant itself is beautiful! I love the flower theme and overall decor of the space.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I came here on a Tuesday noon, and there were plenty of space indoors and outdoors![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The parking situation is a bit difficult since it is on Valencia Street, so that is something to keep on mind. Overall, great Italian restaurant in the city I'd recommend anyone to check out!

    Are you open today?

Yes, we are! Till 11 pm

Is it good for big group gathering?

Hi Ginny, Yes! the restaurant inside has a lot of seating/tables including a large rectangular shaped one that appears to accommodate approximately 12 to 16 people.

Do they have outdoor seating at lunchtime?

They do it's in one of those outdoor wooden patios.

Is there a cake cutting fee?

    No fees

Can their seating options accommodate a larger sized/very heavy person?

I only recall seeing anything other than standard chairs at the restaurant

    Gluten free crust?

I'm fairly certain the answer is yes.

Can you accommodate large groups for special occasions or events?

they have an upstairs room for large parties. We had about 18 people up there I think. You'll need to inquire about the minimum spend, I think it varies based on the night of the week

    Do they take reservations?

    Nope

Is this a perfect location for date night, with self?

    YES!

Do you have take out or curbside pickup?

Ciao ,We have take out. You can order by phone calling directly the restaurant at 415-655-9048…

    Do they take reservations?

    Yes

Is there indoor seating for a group of 10?

They can for sure combine tables. I would suggest you call them to make this adjustment.

Hi is there seating for 10 people?

Yes for outside as I've dined outside for a large group. Unclear about large groups for indoor dining.

Do you offer any gluten free options for pasta/pizza?

    I don't know

Do you need proof of vaccination?

No, nobody asked for ours but they also have outdoor seating options.

    Are you vegan friendly?

Not vegan friendly (at least that I know of)

How big are the pizzas? Is it personal size or share with a group?

Our pizza was enough for 5 people to have 1 slice, plus 2 extra.

How big are the portions? Enough to split with a friend?

Good sized portions! Depending on your appetite, I'd say portions are big enough to split.

A great thing about their cannolis is that they make 'em after you order! Fresh & hot off the presses! They also have coffee but I have never tried it BUT it gives me a reason to come back!
