We were walking around the neighborhood and wanted to grab some food. We stumbled upon Doppio Zero and didn't see a huge line. Thankfully, we were seated very quickly. The restaurant was quite busy, but the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. We were seated at a far table at the corner of the restaurant, which was nicely tucked away. Our server was quick to greet us and gave us some great recommendation. We went with the Diavoletta pizza and rigatoni pork belly. Our food came out fresh, hot, and fast, which was great since we were quite hungry. The pork belly itself was exceptionally tender and the pieces melted in your mouth. It paired nicely with rich and slightly sweet sauce and lightly chewy pasta. The pizza was very light with a spice that progressed nicely as well. The fresh arugula, mozzarella, and spicy meat all worked beautifully together. The food was the perfect size for us to finish our meals feeling full but not overstuffed. The staff were also very kind and made sure to check in on us after we got our food and again to refill our water. Can get busy during happy hour especially with pre-theater crowd so I prefer the small plates vs. the pizza can get a little soggy when crowded but still overall solid. Friendly service. We had walked by this restaurant a few years ago when we lived in Hayes, but never had a chance to try it, so we finally decided to give it a shot. We ordered two drinks, the Espresso Fizz and the Mama Mia. The Espresso Fizz was made with vodka, coffee liquor, Frangelico, espresso, and a toasted marshmallow. It tasted really good, well-balanced with a rich and aromatic coffee flavor. The Mama Mia came with gin, raspberry syrup, strawberry puree, canton, cointerau, Licor 43, and egg white. This drink tasted fruity and refreshing. We started with the Calamari and Shrimp, which came with fried calamari and shrimp with a side of tomato sauce. They were fried to perfect crispiness while still tender inside, and the shrimps were jumbo-sized and sweet. We also got a Margherita pizza, which was made with tomato, mozzarella, Parmigiano Reggiano, and basil. It was simple, classic, and delicious. The only thing we were disappointed with was the service. Our server never came to check on us throughout the meal and only returned after we had finished eating. We wanted to ask for red chili pepper and cheese, but we couldn't find him while we were eating, so we just gave up. I hope the service can be more attentive in the future. I told the server & he gave the note to the kitchen but was a lil defensive. We are realizing that almost not place can do this specific pasta correctly. It was still pretty busy, and the restaurant was pretty packed but service remained prompt throughout. I ordered the marechiaro pasta which is a squid ink pasta tossed in a spicy red sauce. It had quite the kick which I really enjoyed. Good portion size, al dente noodle texture. For the table, we got the margherita pizza, and it was solid. Doppio has been more consistently improved since my first bitter tirade. The food quality has been consistently good but you guys still struggle with timing even when you aren't even busy. Timing is pretty important for food. My last delivery was 10 minutes before my delivery window even started. I was in the shower wondering why my phone was being blown up. Came here with friends for a nice dinner on Sunday evening! The ambiance is great! I liked the interior though outside - we were kept warm with the heaters! The service was also good considering they were quite busy when we came. Wow. And that's a good wow. We booked a 615 Saturday evening reservation, and when we exited the Uber at 545, we were pleasantly shocked at how packed this place was already! As we waited to check in, the hostess was holding fast while professionally juggling door dashers, reserved diners, and walk-ins trying to get a table. We were advised that we would have to be seated at our reservation time, and she recommended a little bar a few feet away (Sugar Lounge) which we enjoyed a cocktail and a beer at until it was time. We were seated at the bar (Open Table offers Restaurant, Outside or Bar, and since inside was booked, we chose the Bar). Water poured, menus placed and we were off! We opted to try 3 "small plates" to get some variety, which were: 1. Potato Croquettes - light and fluffy, flavorful filling with a thin breaded exterior on a bed of a lightly flavored truffle sauce (it was nicely mild, as truffle can be overpowering at times). 2. Polpettine - little meatballs on a bed of scrumptious red sauce. 3. Brussel Sprouts - halved sprouts with crispy bacon pieces and a subtle tinge from the red wine vinegar. Alcohol menu is nicely diverse with a decent selection of Italian reds (what can I say? I'm leaning there), and an even better variety of by the glass. Our seats (left side of bar) were facing all the action with the staff spilling in and out of the kitchen, juggling scrumptious plates of pasta and pizza or piles of empties, as the bartender, William, masterfully whipped together a myriad of mixology delights in between wine and beer pours. A true professional and very personable. In his random lulls, we enjoyed light conversation about a variety of topics as our plates came out with staged precision. My favorite part of the experience, aside from the food, was the ambiance and staff vibe. The restaurant is on the corner with big windows allowing the setting sun to drop through; classy but not pretentious. The noise level was OK where we sat, which is surprising since they were packed. Most of all, the staff were dialed! They communicated well, and worked together to get it done. All in all, a great dining experience. We look forward to our next visit! read more

The creamy burrata paired perfectly with the truffled honey and hazelnuts. The bread ($3.95) - omg, get it. It's homemade, served warm, and so yummy dipped in the herb oil. I had the Squid Ink Pasta ($25) and it was flavorful and wonderful. The handmade pasta has the perfect bite. I think the Cacio e Pepe ($23) was too rich for the BF, but it's more the nature of the dish as opposed to the fault of the chef. Stopped by Doppio Zero around 5 pm on a Friday without reservations before an evening show. For walk-ins, the only tables they had available were outdoors. We ordered the fried calamari and shrimp, truffle fries, and Salsiccia pizza. The calamari and shrimp were tasty, but nothing extraordinary; the batter was very light and crispy. The truffle fries had the perfect thin and crispy texture, but I couldn't taste the truffle. The Salsiccia pizza toppings were good, but the bottom of the crust was burnt and tasted terrible. Food came out relatively quickly but it took a while to get a server's attention when we were ready to order. Service was fine, not the friendliest but also not rude. We sat in the covered parklet, but it wasn't comfortable or pleasant. The sun was shining directly at us at 5 pm, there was too much public foot traffic behind us, and the hint of old urine smell (good ol' SF) put a damper on the dining experience. Walked by this place many times and always noticed the window ads saying Doppio Zero was named the 15th best pizzeria in the US in 2022, so I had to taste it for myself! I finally made reservations for dinner with a party of 4 to give it a try. Inside, the restaurant has many tables bunched close together, with large windows facing the street that make the space feel more open. When we arrived, it was only about 1/3 full, but they seated all the guests along the windows, which made the experience feel more personable and intimate. I enjoyed the setup, but I can see how the close spacing might make some people dislike it and feel uncomfortable. We ordered a couple Neapolitan pizzas (Estate & Pera), the calzone, calamari with shrimp, meatballs, and a beet salad. I really liked three things here which were the fried calamari with shrimp, the Pera pizza, and the attentive service! The fried calamari with shrimp was crispy and light, without that heavy batter. The Pera pizza had a nice balanced taste with its fresh pear and goat cheese, it was not too sweet and still savory. The pizzas being served are authentic Neapolitans in taste, lightness, airy dough with a nice puff, and charred edges from the brick oven. What I wouldn't order again were the calzone and meatballs. The calzone looked impressive in size and presentation, but the filling was overloaded with salami that tasted too acidic and fermented, with barely any cheese inside to balance it out. The meatballs were flavorful, but a bit too small and tough for my liking. Prices on the menu for a place with this level of recognition are very fair and reasonable. Parking can be a hassle since the streets are busy most of the day. Overall, the food quality and service were pretty good, and the presentation was great. read more

A Hidden Gem That Completely Saved Our Night We ended up at Doppio Zero by pure luck after a major inconvenience at another restaurant left us stranded across town before a concert. What started as frustration turned into one of the most memorable dinners we've had in San Francisco. The hostess was upfront that the only available table was outside in their little street‑side shack and that it was reserved at 6:30. We appreciated the honesty and told her we'd be wrapped up before then. The space itself was surprisingly charming -- rustic wooden table, a composite bench on one side, and a plexiglass windbreak that still let the warm sun in. Cozy, simple, and unexpectedly perfect. Our server greeted us immediately with water and genuine warmth. We started with the grilled octopus served over sweet potato purée with mixed greens. It was beautifully plated, but unfortunately the flavor didn't match the presentation -- easily the weakest dish of the night. From there, everything took off. Our server told us about a brand‑new special: whole grilled dorado with chimichurri, roasted potatoes, rainbow carrots, lemon, and herbs. We ordered it along with the gnocchi in a light tomato sauce topped with burrata. When the entrées arrived, the presentation was stunning. The whole fish came on a metal platter -- head on -- which my wife wasn't thrilled about, so I took it. Once I removed the head and opened it up, the aroma of rosemary, thyme, and grilled lemon hit immediately. The fish was tender, perfectly roasted, and the chimichurri brought everything to life. The potatoes were a clever play on scalloped potatoes -- caramelized, buttery, and deeply flavorful. The rainbow carrots were roasted beautifully. My wife ended up eating more of my fish than her own gnocchi, even though the gnocchi was excellent -- pillowy, balanced, and bright with the tomato and burrata. By the end of the meal, we both looked at each other and said the same thing: This place saved our night. Doppio Zero may be known for their pizzas, but based on what we tasted, their entire menu deserves attention. It's truly a diamond in the rough on the south side of Van Ness, and absolutely worth seeking out. We'll be back -- on purpose next time. read more

The small restaurant does get extremely crowded and loud, but that tells you how much people like a place. I started with the soup of the day, which was a butternut squash soup. It was quite possibly one of the best butternut squash soups I've ever had. There was goat cheese mixed into the soup, and it was garnished with apple slices. It was divine. The pizza here is the reason to come. The name of the restaurant is actually the name of the flour they use to make the pizza here. It is imported from Italy and it makes and excellent, soft, airy crust. My friend ordered the Mortadella pizza and I ordered the Pizza of the day which had butternut squash, Gorgonzola cheese, and pomegranate seeds. I also ask for their chili oil to give it a kick. What happened to Doppio Zero?! TLDR: Pizza was thin and soggy, calamari had shrimp in it and was oily, and the cauliflower soup was bland and watery. I feel the quality has gone down in recent years. ---- I remember going to a Doppio Zero location in Mountain View a few different times about six years ago. The pizza and food were pretty good back then. Now I'm really surprised by how things are. We started with the calamari. It was seasoned well but a little oily. The weird thing, though, was that the calamari was mixed with fried, battered shrimp. I have never once been served calamari like that. If you ask me, it's just a way to make the dish cheaper. They also don't cook the same way as squid, so some of them were overdone. They had a cauliflower soup on the specials menu that sounded really nice. I was expecting something really moreish--kind of thick but light at the same time--and savory. What I got was pretty liquidy, oily, and bland. I ended up sending it back. Lastly, the pizza. We got the jalapeño one. The jalapeños on it were cut **SUPER** thick, which was really weird, but maybe that's a tradition of some kind that I don't know about. I'm not Italian lol. But what really annoyed me was the crust. When I say it was thin, it was THIN. So thin that the pizza couldn't hold itself up. And somehow, the crust underneath the toppings was still really soggy. But we got a table for two, provided we could vacate by 6. No problem. There's a lot on the menu that we could have chosen from pasta and other dishes, but I guess we were both in the mood for pizza. We both ordered a margarita pizza, The Wife added arugula. For starters, I ordered a golden Negroni with broccolini. The drink was fabulous, with gold foil (!), the broccolini not so much. Very thick stems, some having very little greenery. The chili oil flavor was food. She got the pear salad, which was large and excellent. The pizzas were cut into quarters, and I ate 3/4 of mine, while she ate 1/4. So a whole pizza leftover to take home. I also had a nice glass of chianti, and when I mentioned to our waiter Joel that the broccolini wasn't good, he quickly offered another cocktail, or glass of wine, which I accepted. I usually go to the Concord location. I love it there. I wanted to try this one, since I haven't been to San Francisco in a while. They are very similar, except the neighborhood vibe is here. The Concord location is in an outdoor area called The Veranda. My son and I had La Carne pizza. My daughter had the lasagna. My wife had some seafood stew looking thing. I believe it started with or had a Z in it. But, we all loved the food. The pizza tastes exactly the same as the other location, so their kitchens and chefs are consistent in their recipes. The service was great, although we had to wait about 10 minutes. I'm pretty sure nobody can fault a restaurant for that small amount of time. Our waiter came around regularly, asking us if we needed anything and to make sure everything was ok. I recommend Doppio Zero. Everybody at my job knows this is my favorite spot. read more

This weekend we celebrated our anniversary in the city by going to the ballet to see the Nutcracker and while looking for amazing restaurants, we ended up here with Doppio zero. We were able to secure a reservation on the way up to the city and they weren't even able to accommodate a last-minute reservation change when I realized it would be a little later when the ballet ended. Service was great we were seated immediately. The restaurant was beautiful very well decorated...definitely gave a feel of contemporary Italian. The wood burning pizza oven was so cool and the product of it is amazingly delicious! The potato croquette was definitely unusual but tasty , the cheese fondue was light, but appreciated. The calamari was perfectly cooked. I had their signature pizza. It was really good however, I think if they added a drizzle of balsamic, it would've took the pizza from pretty good to amazing -stellar ,out of this world. my husband ordered the short rib fettuccine. It was delicious and there was plenty of meat In the Sauce to fill you up. Overall, it was a great experience. The service was excellent and it was a beautiful night. read more

I love dining at restaurants in Hayes Valley and Doppio is now one of them. It's a great place to grab a bite before going to the opera, symphony, or ballet. Their pizzas are airy and crewy, fast, fresh, and delicious. Their other food is just as delicious. Their drinks pack the right punch. Friendly service. I recommend you make reservations (especially if you want to dine inside) as the place isn't too big and gets busy when Their are performances going on. read more

Ordered a fungi pizza, squid in pasta with seafood, and steak for dinner, and they were all pretty tasty. Our table was a bit tight, sitting right next to the pizza station and on the way back to the bathrooms. There seemed to be a large graduation party going on when we were there, so service was a bit slow for us. It was alright, but I didn't feel like it was so much more amazing food wise compared to a lot of other options in the city. read more

Cool corner restaurant in Hayes Valley. Good food. Pretty much everyone I was with enjoyed their meal. The staff were quick and friendly. They took a nice group photo for us. My Branzino was really impressive, crispy skin flaky texture. I had a taste of my husband's Short Rib fettuccini which was rich and savory. The beets were great as was our Panna Cotta.
