Spaghittusu cun allu ollu e bottariga

I remember La Ciccia being a regular on the SF Chronicle Top 100 Restaurants list back when Michael Bauer was the critic. After he retired, the list was discontinued. Now that it's been brought back in 2025, I'm happy to see that La Ciccia is still on it. I actually visited the restaurant just before the new 2025 list came out. La Ciccia is located in Noe Valley and has a cozy, intimate vibe. It really feels like a neighborhood spot, frequented by locals, in the best way possible. It's also one of the only, or maybe the only, Sardinian restaurants in San Francisco! The cuisine is coastal, with a variety of seafood dishes that reflect the flavors of the Mediterranean Sea. During my visit, I tried two of their signature dishes: the spaghetti alla bottarga and the gamberi al forno (oven-roasted whole prawns). The bottarga pasta is the kind of dish you'd find on Mediterranean islands. Both dishes were very good and really make you feel like you're dining by the Mediterranean Sea. A fun detail: the menu is written in both Sardinian and English. Sardinian is considered the closest living language to Latin, and you can really see it in the names of the dishes: e.g., "Spaghittusu cun allu ollu e bottariga"! While chatting with some locals, they told me the restaurant was long associated with its previous owners, Massimiliano Conti and Lorella Degan, who were known for warmly welcoming guests. Thankfully, the new owner has maintained that same level of hospitality and the service is still great.

Amazing authentic Sardinian pasta & dishes. The way the pasta noodles are- chewy, light, eggy, and so delicious. You need to get the thin flat bread crackers with Parmasean topping, paired with arugula and burrata! The vibes here are adorable. It's a small restaurant with little table seating and no frills. The service is great and employees are super kind! I would actually skip the stewed Octopus - it wasn't that good and felt overcooked. Pasta: Roe Pasta, Sea Urchin, and Squid Ink (recommended)

I was passing by and was lucky to get a walk in right before the rush. A bunch of reservations started walking in 20 minutes after I was seated. Call ahead of time to reserve a spot. They have front and back seating. The pasta longa cun arrizonis (artisanal fettuccine sea urchin tomato cured tuna heart) was $32 and worth it! It was delicious. The tomato flavor is the most dominant but in a good way. The other ingredients gave it an enjoyable salty flavor. The mushroom pasta special was also a great pick. We didn't have any leftovers. The assorted gelati was also good. I shared it and we liked different flavors. The goat cheese and black fig was unique but enjoyable I saw many tables enjoying wine and chatting for a long period of time. There were tables there before I was that were still there after I had finished my meal.

La Ciccia is a gem of a restaurant in Noe Valley. It has a very homey and cozy ambiance. Service is also very friendly. I've been here twice and it has been wonderful each time. For appetizers, you must try their anchovies salad with oranges - it is so light, zesty and refreshing! For pasta - the pasta with roe was absolutely delicious and the gnocchi was so good especially with their sauce (only caveat is I wished for more gnocchi). I also ordered the lamb and the prawns. The prawns were amazing. The lamb was just okay especially compared to everything else. Dessert was solid. Overall- we love it here and so glad we have La Ciccia in our neighborhood

This small restaurant features Sicilian wine and unusual seafood combinations. We ordered all the fresh specials. The food was interesting and unexpected combinations. I only wish the portions were a bit more substantial.

We had a great time here celebrating my father-in-laws birthday. We had 8p reservations and were seated promptly. It had an old San Francisco vibe and felt both cozy and intimate. Here's what we ordered: Burrata with arugula and a truffles and anchovy dressing - delicious and recommend Roasted calamari with a basil oil and mixed greens - tasty and bright flavors, would recommend Sardinia flat bread - crispy and light, also would recommend and went well with our burrata Spicy garlic oil spaghetti with fish roe - unique pasta, but I would probably not order again Squid ink fregola pasta - never had fregola before and really liked the texture, the sauce was delicious, would recommend Roasted shrimp in tomato sauce and basil oil - decent number of prawns, solid dish Lamb tenderloin - tender, and not gamey (IMO), another solid dish Overall, we had a wonderful meal and most of the dishes we ordered I really liked. The manager or owner (?) was so nice and personable who came to check on our table several times while refilling our water cups. Easy to find street parking as well which is a bonus!

Had the most incredible dinner at La Ciccia in Noe Valley! We started with the baby calamari in basil oil sauce, and wow, it was SO tender and flavorful. For the main, I had their mushroom pappardelle, and the earthy, tangy sauce was just chef's kiss perfection. The service was amazing, and the rustic, cozy vibe made me feel like I was dining in a cute Italian spot in Staten Island. It's small, so definitely make a reservation, but trust me--it's SO worth it!

Prupisceddu in Umidu cun Tomatiga (Baby Octopus stew in a spicy Tomato Sauce)
    Jamie S.

Worth the try: flatbread, octopus stew, spaghetti Pani Guttiau ($13): Traditional Sardinian Flat Bread baked with EVOO and Pecorino. Extremely thin, crispy bread, almost chip like. When they say it's flat, they mean FLAT! Great side to start. Prupisceddu in Umidu cun Tomatiga ($22): Baby Octopus stew in a spicy tomato sauce. The tomato base is thick, well-balanced (not too acidic), and comes with a depth of seafood flavors. Plenty of tender octopus pieces. Served with bread for dipping. Spaghittusu cun Allu Ollu e Bottariga ($28): Fresh spaghetti with spicy oil garlic and cured fish roe. Perfectly al dente pasta with a creamy sauce. The fish roe adds a nice crunchy texture to the dish. PARKING: Good amount of street parking available nearby. SERVICE: Such amazing service for a small restaurant. We called ahead and asked if we could walk in for dinner on a Saturday night, and they said they could fit us in for a table inside. The staff were all attentive and friendly, our water cups were always full and when I dropped a fork on the floor someone immediately came to replace it before I could even reach for it! ATMOSPHERE: Small restaurant tucked in Noe Valley. Has a very intimate, traditional feel to it. No frills, just great food. You HAVE to try this place. I've had my fair share of Italian restaurants across SF, and I love how unique this place is. It's hard to come by a specifically Sardinian restaurant, and I'm glad we have this one nearby. My partner and I have had this place bookmarked, and I'm glad we finally gave it a try after being tired of venturing out to busy North Beach for Italian food. The restaurant is tucked away in a quiet neighborhood in Noe Valley, so it's easy to get to and find parking. The staff is great, the food is amazing. All the dishes were so unique and flavorful, we wish we had room for more. We'll definitely be coming back here to try more of the dishes!

pastas were nothing crazy, got the job done though. good bread though and the burrata anchovy + salad was really refreshing!! lamb was a pleasant surprise because not a big lamb person but the sauce was a perfect sweetness that balanced the saltiness of the lamb! cauliflower side too was delish.

    Calamareddusu Arrustiusu (Roasted Calamari)
    Miranda L.

Made a 6 pm reservation a day before and I would recommend making a reservation since the restaurant is pretty intimate and popular. The staff was so friendly and attentive, filling our waters, clearing things and giving us recommendations since it was our first time. They gave us bread as a starter, which was such tasty sourdough bread on its own with a crisp outside, soft and chewy inside, that they also recommended using it to dip in our appetizer or entree sauces. Calamareddusu Arrustiusu (Roasted Calamari) - We didn't know what to expect with roasted calamari but this was our favorite dish. The star was definitely the basil oil which was tangy, salty and aromatic. The mixed greens and the soft calamari topped with green sauce soaked in the flavors very well. Pasta Longa cun Arrizonis (Fettuccine Sea Urchin) - This one caught my eye on the menu because of the sea urchin. The creamy pasta sauce had sea urchin, anchovy and tomato which was a pretty rich, spicy and warming flavor. It was a little too salty in some bites but the pasta was a great consistency. Something to keep in mind also is that they do have a discount applied when you pay in cash. Overall, we had the best time trying some authentic and unique Italian dishes.

Finally got to try this small local Italian restaurant. I got to the place early , so we have to wait until the restaurant open at 5.30pm and I can see this place it's really famous because there are other people waiting also . The restaurant is really cozy and small but buzzing with people. The service it's really nice. We ordered 2 appetizers 2 pasta and 2 entrees. Let's get down to the food.gotta say that here there's no fancy just straight rustic good food. Both appetizers were awesome , one of the best octopus I had and the salad also refreshing but umami bomb at the same time with the sardine and truffle flavor Both pasta killed it , nice pasta and great sauce, would come back for more pasta here Only the entree that kinda let down especially the lamb. Uneven cooked and some pieces are dry some are good and the prawn dish was good though, the sauce that I wanna drink. The prawn meat very soft. Over all it was a good dinner , good vibe in the restaurant. They were packed even though it was on the week day so either you go early or definitely need reservations!!!!

What is the dress code? Casual? Business casual?

Either will work! The food is excellent! The service is lively! Be sure to tell Cheryl you heard about her on Yelp!

Can I do take out order?

Yes. Have done so several times.

Do they have any gluten free options?

    How vegetarian-friendly is this place?

The regular menu isn't particularly vegetarian-friendly. I've been going for years and don't recall many veggie-safe options; most dishes contain some form of meat or seafood or cheese. Call for a reservation & ask what they can do for you off menu.

This is such a cute little spot!…read more Honestly I give them 5 stars for the service and the happy hour pizza that had some of the best pizza sauce I've tasted in a long time! To be quite honest the pesto gnocchi I ordered was actually horrible. Usually they brown the gnocchi in some butter and it has the best yummy taste but this fell so flat. No brown butter and no kind of browning on the gnocchi at all. It had 0 taste! I had to chew it and wash it down with water or my wine! So diner beware. Other than that the pizza was great the wine was great and the price was right! I would come back but I would have to try something different if

It certainly helps that their 15+ years in business has probably already earned them "neighborhood institution" status, but so does their popularity! On just about any given night, you can easily find a decently sized crowd here! Compared to the likes of Elena's, George's Donuts, and Khao Tiew, the look and feel of Trattoria da Vittorio isn't nearly as trendy or modern (if anything, it's starting to feel a little dated). At the same time, though, it actually adds to their appeal, as everything about this place feels so friendly and approachable. Similarly, the menu feels a bit basic, but in a good way - their wide array of appetizers, pizzas, and entrees may not have a bunch of bells and whistles, but it's quite varied and doesn't lack for enticing options. Plus, it's family friendly as well, as they even offer pizzas shaped like Mickey Mouse for kids. -- HOMEMADE PAPPARDELLE PASTA WITH OXTAIL RAGU This isn't listed on the menu anymore, which is a shame since it used to be my friend's go-to dish (sadly, no photo). Each time I had this, the pasta was always well cooked with just the right thickness while there was never any shortage of oxtail meat. -- ANTIPASTO DELLA CASA - Charcuterie Board with Prosciutto, Mortadella, Hot Coppa, and Salame Kind of hard to mess up a charcuterie board, but, regardless, this was great! The overall portion size was relatively generous and all four of the meats were delicious, especially the hot coppa. Nice that they also included a side of baked pizza dough, as well. -- FRIED CALAMARI & ARTICHOKES with Tartar Sauce and Marinara Sauce Nothing fancy, but no less tasty. Although the batter definitely felt somewhat dry and unseasoned, I liked how crispy it was. Plus, the calamari and artichokes were flavorful and the dish, as a whole, wasn't super oily. -- ORECCHIETTE with Spicy Sausages, Broccoli Rabe, and 'Nduja Not quite what I expected, as the sauce had a bit of a kick to it, but this was still pretty solid. There was a fair amount of sausage/'nduja and broccoli rabe in this, but, while the pasta was cooked to a nice al dente, I wish this had more orecchiette in this and less sauce. -- GRILLED POLENTA with Gorgonzola Mushroom Cream Sauce This left me feeling a bit conflicted. On the plus side, the polenta was great - each piece was crispy on the outside and hot and soft on the inside. However, the Gorgonzola Cream sauce was kind of rich and got to be a bit much after a couple of bites. -- POLPETTE - Homemade Meatballs Served with Toasted Bread Nothing spectacular, but pretty darn solid. The meatballs had a nice beefiness to them, but they didn't feel overly heavy or dense. Plus, I like how the tomato sauce wasn't too sweet either. -- UOVO PIZZA with Eggs, Pancetta, Wild Mushrooms, and Mozzarella Cheese Aside from the uneven distribution of toppings, this was terrific. The eggs and cheese added a bit of richness and I really liked how well the mushrooms and pancetta complemented each other. Just a drizzle of truffle oil would've rounded this out perfectly. -- DOLCE PIZZA with Spicy Sausage, Mozzarella Cheese, Honey, Pepperoncino Calabrese This reminded me of the spicy pepperoni pizzas I've had in the past, but possibly better. Aside from how it felt a little "wet" from the honey and peppers, they also added a nice sweet and spicy element to the sausage. -- SPAGHETTI CARBONARA - Pancetta, Eggs, Cheese, Black Pepper Ehh...this was just okay. While I certainly liked how they didn't skimp on the pancetta, all of the rendered fat made this feel incredibly heavy, even for a carbonara. What's more, I wish the egg had been poached instead of fried/sunny-side-up. -- ZUPPA - Homemade Soup of the Day (Lentil Soup) Our mistake for skimming the description and assuming this was the same "zuppa" as Olive Garden's soup (which is so good). While the portion size was great, the taste of this was just okay - lentil soup is just okay to me and this one was also really salty. Much like the food, the service here isn't amazing, but they more than get the job done. Each time I've been here the workers have been friendly and welcoming and are relatively efficient. There have been times where they seem to linger around the kitchen/bar area when the restaurant is quiet, but they still do a decent job of keeping an eye on customers. All in all, while Trattoria da Vittorio certainly isn't one of the best Italian joints in SF, it's still one of the better ones on this side of SF and one of the most convenient. Between the relatively short waits for a table, if any at all, and how there is always nearby street parking available, this place is always a solid choice for meet-ups with friends, family dinners, date nights, or just a quick solo meal out!

I had steamed mussels with fries. There were not enough mussels because they were huge and the sauce was more a broth and not at all flavorful enough. I usually love sopping up every last drop of the juice. But the really disappointing aspect of our dinner was the service. There were 3 people behind the service station. All of them need a training course on how to pay attention to paying customers. Instead they were all engrossed in private conversation with each other or with one particular customer. And one of the staff was simply intimidating, and very very loud. I suspected his behavior may have been chemically induced. Our waitress was very sweet, cheerful and helpful when we could catch her attention. But as I said a 15 minute training exercise each evening before starting work would work wonders. Like look around each customer every time you are not doing anything. And the more senior staff member was just uninterested and perhaps a little grumpy. So the food was blah, more flavor in the broth would help, and ok but at today's prices a "dinner out" has to be about more than just the food.
