I haven't been here in almost 3 years so decided to pay this spot a visit. The menu has changed so much, for the better. The food may seem a bit pricey but it's so worth it. For the entree, I ordered the pan seared scallop carbonara and my boyfriend had the 8oz barrel cut filet mignon. The portions were huge and very filling! For the appetizer we ordered the clams and dessert was the tiramisu which was absolutely delicious and the perfect start and end to our dinner. I've been frequenting Bottoms Up for about six months or so, and I gotta tell you not only is the food great but the staff is wonderful. Special shout out to Jossie, one of the bartenders! She's friendly, warm-hearted and welcoming. Very attentive and always remembers your name/order! I keep going back because of her! this is actually a second draft so to avoid epic review I'll just cut it down to a few things. arrived with three couples the ambience was comfortable and inviting. The food was open to interpretation. One of the couples had steak. It wasn't liking serve then another steak and they liked it unfortunately was after everybody had already been eaten so he was eating his steak meal by himself. My wife had chicken and it was more like pasta sauce and gummy bears chicken was gummy and it was full of sauce with linguine, the waitress was rude with a statement as to getting something for when we challenged her about leaving the chicken Parm on the bill and she was forced to go take that off the bill and she made that statement as she was walking away into the kitchen and didn't know that we had heard her say what she said I challenged her on that statement. The result was she didn't get a tip , I give this restaurant half a star. I appreciate restaurants when the customer service Waff are happier than the people that go in there or their job is to help facilitate and enjoyable evening not more situation. Keep your comments to yourself take it all the way into the kitchen then you can complain about whatever you wanna complain about. You don't do it in front of your customers . read more

My wife Used yelp to find a new Resturant while in the Middletown area. We Found this gem!!!! First off the atmosphere was great. This place felt like something special immediately. The people, the hostess, the bartender, there was just something that said welcome and stay a while. The bartender knew everyone personally and lots of people were eating at the bar. When we walked in they asked if we had a reservation? We did not but wanted to have a drink and check out the place. No problem sit down have a drink and something to eat just let me know if you need anything. This is a higher brow crowd. We felt totally at home here. Let's just say not all places we dine in have a such a sophisticated clientele. We had a few drinks and watched the crowd and the food pass by on its way to the regulars. This is definitely a Friday or Saturday night dinner out place. People dressed up, couples and foursomes that look like they are here once or twice a week. The menu was vast with a regular menus, a pub menu and the daily specials. We really did not know where to start. We ordered the chilled seafood appetizer; clams on the half shell, oysters on the half shell, prawns and snow crab claws. All fresh and plump served on ice just like my favorite seafood house in NYC. Next up clams bottoms up style...steamed with andouille sausage, jalapeño peppers, wine, butter and a not large enough piece of bread to soak up all that goodness (but I did not want to waist the carbs, I just wanted to eat it like soup.) amazing amazing amazingly delicious and the clams where so plump if I had to eat it alone it might be the only thing I would have eaten. Last but not least my wife wanted to split the hanger steak salad. Huge portion of cooked to perfection steak next to a pile of the freshest greens and shredded carrots, tomatoes, onion and the list goes on and it was so fresh! We were never rushed to the point that they put in one order at a time and spaced it out so we could talk and just enjoy the atmosphere. Met the owner at a bakery and my family and I are in the area for 11 years and looking for a local good spot to eat. Great choice as this place didn't fall short of expectations. I am a chef for 25 years and my wife is an awesome chef along with an inspiring daughter wanting to be a chef as well. I am home after eating here and heating up last nights left over pizza!!! Have eaten here several times and have always been satisfied not this time. First off service was spotty at best and food was sub mediocre. I ordered steak au parve which I have had before and has been good this time the steak was not cooked as ordered (medium rare) and the whole dinner was just barely warm the steak was a dry although pink in the center. Not at all juicy just dry and tasteless. Sent it back which I never do but this was just awful. The prices are over the top for the area. I am disappointed because there are so few dining options in this area we thought we had found a keeper but not the case will not be back for a long time if at all. This is one of my favorite spots. The ambience is so calming especially on a sunny day because you're always seated near where there's beautiful sunlight coming through. Always heard great things about this place. We live about half an hour away, and since I commute everyday for work to good ol NYC, I can't really stand driving. Anyway, took the trip and glad we did. Prices are a little high, but your main dish is a good size portion. My fiance has the chicken Diane as a main dish, and the fresh Mozzarella and tomatoes for an app. Both were prepared nicely with decent size portions. She also had the apple crisp for dessert and loved it. I had the seared sesame tuna, which was very good, as an app. As my main dish I ordered the grilled Cajun rib eye. Great flavor, and it was still juicy despite being slightly over cooked. I asked for it medium rare and it came out with a light pink center, more medium. But all in all it was a very good meal and we will most definitely be back. read more

Hit or miss. Went here tonight and managed to spend a whopping $85 on one appetizer, a chicken Cesar salad, pasta and sauce (meat free and an outstanding $16!!!!) one dessert, and four glasses of wine. While the staff is friendly, the prices are way too high for its lack of quality food. The $16 pasta and sauce was the nail in the coffin. Wont be wasting our time here again. read more

Middletown is very limited in regards to restaurant choices besides the typical Olive Garden, TGIF's, and choices in that nature. I came to Bottoms Up upon a recommendation from a local. I was initially excited to try something different, something more mom-and-pop. However, my disappointment came through when I found a piece of plastic in their famous french onion soup. I understand that things happen and it's not like Bottoms Up wanted that to happen as well. Their eggplant over angel hair pasta wasn't impressive either. It was tolerable as in edible and (thankfully) free of plastic pieces. I could see how others would give this restaurant four or five stars (big portions, an alternative from chained restaurants, etc). I'm not in the same boat because of the taste, dry menu, and of course - piece of random plastic in my mood. read more

Great place for dinner and lunch! prices are very reasonable especially when you consider the portions you get. We've been here 7-8times and never had issues, attentative staff, menu w/ great options, Be sure to have your party arrive on time(they will not seat you until all has arrived). Nice ambience with wood and cooper. Chef/owner. Our priest is here all the time, so that says a lot. Bar is always full, entrance way is somewhat tight during dinner but once you get seated you're comfortable. Headed there tonight, cant wait for a nice seafood dish. We have had dinner several times and the food has been consistently GREAT! You can choose from a Pub menu or a full dinner menu. We have had both and they are both large portions, very tasty and well presented. It's great to stop in and see many local people and have a chance to catch up. There are quaint little side rooms as well as a larger room for bigger parties. Whether you order steak, chicken or fish it's prepared to prefection. Make sure to save room for dessert and coffee. The service is good and Josie behind the bar always greets you with a smile! Nice friendly atmosphere, give it a try. The restaurant is cozy (looks like it used to be a house) with plenty of parking. We didn't have a reservation but the host at the restaurant was nice enough to seat us anyway. The menu had mostly steak & fish (which we both love), so we ended up going with Steak Salad drizzled with sweet sauce and Steak Nicholas (served with crisp potato cake topped with sour cream and chives served with a cabernet red wine sauce). This is the best restaurant for its great food, drinks and consistency. Kevin is a great chef. But the friendliness of the restaurant is enhanced by Josie the bartender. She is awesome. We arrived just after 6pm on a Friday without reservations and were seated within minutes. It was packed, especially the bar area. Just a week after Thanksgiving we both decided to go the salad route, one with grilled chicken, the other grilled shrimp and Brie. Both plates were mounded with a good mix of greens, fruits etc. We also ordered the seared tuna for an appetizer. Everything was fantastic from the rolls to the huge and delicious salads. I've been here a few times now and I have nothing but good things to say. There is a nice bar when you first walk in through the back. There are a couple rooms for seating and the servers are always nice. I believe the last time I went, I had the Steak Nick which was amazing. There are some fried onions and cream they put off to the side that you can mix up with the steak and it just works. With the bar right near you, there really isn't a drink they can't make you and the beers on tap and in bottle are a good selection. I definitely recommend. read more

We arrived 15 minutes before our reservation time and were seated immediately, at a quiet table in a corner by a window no less. The staff was attentive, we had a bread basket right away. Portions are big and prices are very reasonable for the amount and high quality food you will get here.
