Husband and I have been having regular exams for many years. We have always felt that the exams were thorough and follow-up was very good. Lenses/frames are quite pricey, but of very good quality. Would like to mention Julie specifically. She has assisted me several times over the years. Last year she caught an omission in my prescription (from university) as there were not prisms noted on the prescription. She made me aware of it, I got a new Rx and then proceeded to have the glasses made correctly. That saved me a lot of money, as I did not have to have the lenses made twice. She is always so cordial, efficient and knowledgeable. I just ordered another set of lenses put into frames and the whole process was smooth as silk. Hope to work with her again. read more

The eye exam was passable. The doctor acted bored and as if I were a dime a dozen. Not like the excellent exam I had at the downtown Botwin location a year earlier. -- as for the optical, I spent $1000 on glasses and was rushed through the process. Needless to say, I don't like the glasses, and when I went back to buy a new pair, it was the same treatment. All the frames are locked, so you have to have the saleswoman unlock each pair. She acted bothered, and again, rushed me through the process. I demurred and will go somewhere else, or I will try the Botwin location downtown. (I've had better service at Warby Parker.) You cannot make appointments for glasses, and they give their patients who've just had exams, preference. However, whatever preference I got after my exam when I bought my glasses, was negligible. Be prepared to wait and then be rushed. OR maybe if you act entitled and demand good service you might get it. read more

Look elsewhere. The doctor at the midtown location was apathetic, depressing, negative and bored sh*tless -- and I was the first appointment of the day. Not helpful at all -- kind of combative. Very strange for a doctor. Even the woman at the front desk when I checked in was sour. I have insurance, so when I went to pick out glasses -- no bells and whistles, just inexpensive frames and the basics -- the price made me choke (but at lease that person was nice and positive). Apparently, they jack up the price, but then brag about the "discount" I got from my insurance. I went elsewhere with my insurance in hand and was able to get the same thing for half the price. What a rip-off and a very negative vibe at this place. Did I get a decent eye exam? Probably. But I don't know. No confidence -- I'll pay out of pocket for another exam just to be sure. But I've been displeased with the efforts to "upsell" products (e.g., vitamins, eye wipes) and very disappointed with the poor quality of lenses. They charge $60 for a missed appointment. I arrived five minutes early to be mindful of their time but my exam did not start until twenty minutes later and then there were more delays at every step. An exam that could have been completed in 30-45 minutes ended up taking two hours (and costing $340). read more

Very poor experience, I won't be back. I was told several untruths which were actually easy to investigate. BOTWIN kept telling me that my vision insurance, Davis (who has covered my medically necessary contacts for OVER 20 years) , kept denying my claim. Davis RECORDS and DOCUMENTS every interaction with provider offices and with clients, it was not at all difficult to get the truth of what actually had happened. BOTWIN'S statement untrue, BOTWIN did not send the necessary documents as requested. BOTWIN said they did not have an authorization number (not true, I personally gave it to them 3 THREE different times). When BOTWIN refused to give me an appointment until I paid the bill I asked for all of their documentation and the denials they had received from Davis (of course they NEVER supplied me with anything) and said I would call them and Davis every day until this was settled, miraculously BOTWIN provided the information to Davis and the claim was immediately paid by Davis. The bottom line, they really just wanted me to pay out of pocket (obviously they would make more than the insurance would pay--insurance fraud, when they state they work with your insurance company, but won't do what is needed to file), treated me like I was a criminal since I wouldn't PAY the bill and told me directly when I asked about the future, "I don't know if Davis will ever pay your claims, they don't really like us." read more

I asked for my records from my last visit; they didn't send them as promised, I called again and was told I could just come by. I have been a customer of this business, mostly with the patriarch of the practice, for years. When I came by, they said my supplemental declined the charge for my last visit. . I asked them to send me the bill so I can inquire about the reason. In turn , the doc told the front desk not to give me my records until I pay the brand new bill. I informed the secretary that's not legal, and that they belong to me. "Office Policy" she said. I paid the bill and they released my records. Not only illegal to hold records as collateral, the son doc is arrogant and unprofessional. Will never go back. I'm with Eye Associates now, a great business. read more

It took three months to get an appointment and all was fine. However, three days before the appontment they sent a text telling us that we would be charged $60 if we cancelled. I've had many medical appointments and had never been bullied about keeping an appointment before. We wouldn't have minded a friendly reminder. But, frankly this stuck in my craw as an example of a business who doesn't really care about anything but making money. Bully tactics and very unprofessional. If this is how they show regard for new patients--messaging them that they'd better show up or else--or if their business is that bad that they need revenue regardless of how they insult potential customers, I feel sorry for Botwin. Either way their messaging raises legitimate concerns about the type of service we would have gotten and whether we would have been bullied during the appointment. We're not having it and will look elsewhere for eye care that isn't built on harrassing potential patients. read more

I've been a patient at the Botwin Eye Group for more than 4 years and I wouldn't dream of going anywhere else. The staff is professional, kind and always respectful. I usually see Dr. Jeramy who in my opinion has the best bed side manner I've seen in forever. He's very easy to talk to. I never feel like just a number. Dr. Jeramy will often show me on a diagram what going on, so I have a better idea of what he's explaining to me. The optometrist said I had cataracts in both eyes but I should wait 10 years to have them removed. After I almost crashed on a foggy morning because of my cataracts (a few months later) I was scheduled to have them removed. I went back for reading glasses after my surgery and they cost me almost $400. Plus what they charged my insurance!! The lenses are so warped that I can't see out of them. I asked for a refund because drugstore readers are so much better and they refused... Not a place I would recommend. They only care about money, not you! read more

I will give this office a 3 and only because the Dr himself is awesome. A year later and customer service still sub par. One receptionist with feet on chair on the way and I was discouraged and shamed for being there early. Mind you I drive over an hour to be here for appointments. As a mother with two small children how you speak to my kids means everything to me. A+ to the Dr and a D to the optical staffer today. I will ask for my Rx to be transferred and I will be cancelling my sons future appointment and my father. To have an elitist, condescending attitude with customers is not for me. the doctor was good and glasses ok in terms of the prescription. but the optical service is horrible they did not show me all of the glasses they had and some designer brands were not even displayed. they chose the most expensive glasses which are way too big for my face and told me they looked perfect. I paid almost 4000 dollars and six weeks later the only pair of glasses I ordered for work is still not here and they blame the holidays they don't take Medicare. they take your money then wait for payment before they even order. I paid nearly full price and yet they have my money for weeks.I hate the glasses they told me looked good. they never showed me Chanel or any other brands. I asked them about petite glasses and the person said they have none she only showed me a limited number including Cartier. these expensive glasses look horrible on me in the light I also paid cash for a contact exam and because that day I was tired and couldn't get the contact in they wouldn't let me order any til I could put in in my eye in front of some girl I am shy and get nervous under pressure so I paid 70 bucks for nothing read more

Visited their office three years back to get glasses. After having a total of three visits, their RX was several diopters off what other doctors have prescribed before and since. I argued the case with my insurance and was reimbursed as the glasses were returned. Today I receive an automated reminder call. I never signed up for this. On request, they tell me my phone number cannot be deleted from their systems (plural) as it is part of the medical file. That file they cannot change. Then 'Lucia from the downtown office' won't confirm which office it is their automated system forwarded me to. Beware of contact if you're into proper correction or data privacy. read more
