Excellent place for lunch at the Main Place mall. They also serve breakfast and dinner. They have a fairly large menu mostly serving soups, salads, and sandwiches. But they also have a bakery, pizzas, and even mac n cheese. I got the chicken pesto sandwich and it was very good. The restaurant has a nice decor. It's one of the nicer restaurants at this mall. Had to knock things down a couple of stars. Today wasn't a very good day, and over the past few visits, we've noticed a decline in service. Maybe they want people to order online or use the kiosk, but we're finding the staff is less friendly than normal. Sadly, today was kind of the peak. Granted, they were busy, probably because it's almost 100 degrees outside, so everyone was at the mall to cool off, but the girl who took our order was a little snippy with us. It was not appreciated. We ordered a peach milkshake, which I thought she said would be brought as soon as it was made. Well, we got our food and had to remind them of the milkshake, so they kept the number on the table. Five minutes later, time to find out where the milkshake went. We finally talked to someone who might be in charge, and they made the milkshake for us. The machine is next to the cash registers, and I want to know if it was Miss Snippy Attitude's job to make it for us. Avoid this place like the plague. The cookies and pastries displayed in the glass case in front of the cashier had insects around them. That alone was enough to make me question the cleanliness of the establishment. We came in Friday evening around 7:00 p.m., and there was no one at the cashier. I had to walk over to the other counter where they prepare or release the food--whatever you want to call it--to get someone's attention. I went back to the front and waited, but no one came. I had to go back again to get someone. This happened three times before someone finally came to take our order. After ordering, we waited forever for our food. I ordered the Pick-a-Pair, and to my surprise, the grilled cheese bacon sandwich had only one slice of bacon. I've ordered this sandwich many times before, and it used to come with several strips of bacon. The bread also wasn't toasted and crisp like it used to be, and the cheese wasn't properly melted. The food quality and service have seriously gone downhill. Between the insects around the pastries, the terrible service, the long wait, and the disappointing food, this was an extremely frustrating experience. If you're looking for a good sandwich, salad, or soup, go to Urbane Cafe in Main street - across the street. You'll have a much better experience there. Let's start with walking in the young lady standing at the front, looks at me and gave me the impression to you the kiosk to order rather then taking my order right way. After seeing that it was taking me some time to find what I wanted, she then asked me that she could take my order. I ordered two salads at 11am, the lettuce must have been from the previous day because it had brown spots all over them and my order was to go so I didn't notice it till I was home. Came into Main Place mall just to walk around this week. We ended up eating at Boudin. Restaurant was fairly quiet. I got a half great bacon and cheese melt and yummy rustic tomato soup. I really liked and enjoyed my meal. Hubby got a turkey with cranberry and chips. He liked it and said the sandwich was refreshing. The cashier that helped me informed me that I had earned a $3 dollar reward after purchase so I decided to get a peanut butter cookie that I thought had been discontinued for sometime but glad to see that it was not or that they brought it back because it is delicious!!! read more

We have been coming here nearly two decades. The food and services is such a hit or miss like the mall. The gum chewing server interrupts me when I am ordering to vent to his coworker how unprofessional then he open mouthly chews his gum while prep and serve over food and really needs food safety and customer service training. It's not his attitude but demeanor. Chop chicken of all sizes slap on springly on an overpriced salad now. Breads aren't warmed and parsley sprinkled by the same pair of gloves that just clear a table touch used napkins, utensils...standard should be Change gloves after busing tables and new gloves before food prep. Same as cashier, use a tong or new gloves before you touch my bread. Disappointed. The consistency with food is also suffering. Soups are sometimes too thin, no bite to potato and overly salty that you can't taste the clam in chowder. Covered booths are so stained and crumbs on seats. I wrote a similar post, 9 months ago and unfortunately, things haven't changed. I just love Boudin but I hate getting the bitter lettuce core in my salad. Not just one, but multiple pieces. Unfortunately, I may need to give Boudin a break until they can fix their prep methods. I just don't understand why they can't remove the core before they chop the lettuce. I used to love this location! Food is great and fresh, staff is friendly. But they have made changes specifically to the kids' menu that mean we don't eat here anymore. My picky eater only likes their soup and it seems to have been removed from the kids menu. We used to do kid's soup (which came with a sourdough roll or turtle bread) with a drink and a choice of cookie. The Royale was a favorite! But then they changed it to only allow a chocolate chip cookie with no choice even for an upcharge to change to a different treat. Now they have taken soup off the kids' menu. I'm not going to pay for an adult portion cup of soup for my kid when the kids meals give a better deal for the drink and treat with it. If Boudin reverts back to the old way of the kids meals, we will happily return. Until then, I'll be missing their butternut squash soup. My first experience with Boudin SF was in San Francisco a few years ago, where I was instantly impressed by their famous sourdough bread bowls filled with delicious soup. I had no idea there were actually a few locations in OC until we took our little one to Discovery Cube and stumbled upon one nearby! We ordered through their kiosk and tried a variety of dishes: chicken pesto sandwich, butternut squash soup in a bread bowl, Little Gem Cobb salad, and a kids' cheese pizza. The real star of the meal was the kids' pizza, our usually picky 3-year-old devoured the entire thing, which almost never happens! He even finished the chocolate chip cookie that came with the meal later in the day. As for the rest of the food, the butternut squash soup was my favorite. Sweet, creamy, and the bread bowl was the perfect chewy vessel. The chicken pesto sandwich was solid. The Cobb salad was fresh and crunchy, no sad wilted lettuce here. Prices were fair, portions were big, and everything tasted good. Now if they'd just open one even closer to me, that'd be perfect. Until then, I'll be back next time we're near Discovery Cube--mostly so my kid can inhale another pizza. read more

Didn't want to drive to get food today but this has good reviews and it was recommended on uber eats. Got here pretty fast. Not much to say about service since I didn't go in person and not sure how it is at the actual store so as for as ambiance not sure as well. But the food we got was an Asian citrus chicken which was probably the highlight of the food just because the sweet fruits mixed with the spicy salad dressing was a good contrast. It is fine to have the screen as an option for ordering, but to not have anyone there greeting customers and offering an in person ordering option is not great. Came here for a quick lunch. Similar to another sandwich place you may be familiar with they do offer a pick 2 which was what I got. The staff appeared to be busy working on orders to go. While dining in I noticed that the place was clean and staff was awesome at doing their jobs as they were on top of their orders! I got my food fairly quickly. My mac and cheese was tasty and warm. This place was delicious. The food was fresh. The bread was probably some of the best bread I've ever had from any kind of sandwich. The mayonnaise was not overpowering everything on that sandwich blended together pretty well where you could taste all the flavors. I had the turkey avocado, and I had a small side Asian salad, which was very flavorful too and had pretty decent chunks of I wanna say tangerines. Seating was pretty open for the most part, they had both booths and tables. . I've been here twice now and both experiences have been mediocre. The first time I came, our food took about half an hour to be brought out. The food was good so I assumed that they could have been short staffed. I just visited again and this time, the wait was a lot shorter for our food. However, I had wanted to try the new firecracker chicken sandwich and it was not done well. The bread felt old and overly heated so it was falling apart; I ended up eating just the middle of the sandwich with a fork and knife. The more concerning issue I had was what I witnessed while I was dining there. The workers so far have been very attentive and friendly, but I saw a very unkind manager yelling at one of the workers. It looked like they were trying to solve some technical issue on their tablets and he was barking at her very rudely. I do not like supporting businesses with this type of management and no person deserves to be spoken to in this manner. The poor worker never argued back and silently took this treatment. I witnessed this during my visit on 8/27/25 at around 3PM from a manager who looked of white and Asian heritage. Please do better. read more

I don't like posting a negative review of this location, because I've been dining here for years and usually get excellent service. But my most recent experience wasn't great. My husband and I came here on a Monday evening before 6:30. There were only a handful of customers dining in, and there was no wait to place our order at the register. We each ordered soup in a bread bowl -- pretty simple order. I understand having to wait a while when you order a pizza, hot sandwich, or anything else that's made to order. But our order only required scooping soup (which is already prepared and sitting in huge pots behind the counter) into bread bowls. We sat in our booth for over 20 minutes, watching other customers order and receive their food before us. My husband finally went up to the counter to inquire about our order, and the employee finally scooped the soup into bread bowls and brought them to our table. Who knows how much longer we would've had to wait if my husband didn't ask about our order? The food tasted great as always, but the unnecessarily long wait really put a damper on our dining experience. Hopefully the next time we visit will be much better. read more

On a busy pre Holliday morning I had just made a shopping run hoping to get in and out. I had not eaten breakfast and decided to grab some coffee and a breakfast sandwich. The line was short . As I approached the digital display switched from breakfast to lunch . I asked if breakfast was still available and was reassured that it was. I chose the breakfast sandwich on an English muffin. Coffee and a blueberry scone. The dining area was clean and pleasant. I picked up my coffee. And my food came out quick . It was hot and the size of the English muffin was huge . It was delicious the eggs were soft the bacon crisp and smoky. The muffin was toasted perfectly. Coffee was hot and fresh . I did not get to try the scone as the muffin was so much more than I expected. I did get a pack of muffins to take home as well the staff were circulating in the dining room making sure everything was clean . I will go back . I have my eye on the clam chowder in a bread bowl. This Boudin is located in the Mainplace Mall in Santa Ana, making it a very convenient location to stop by while shopping. I've had Boudin in the Bay Area before and it was amazing, but it's good to know that there are some in this area as well. I ordered the clam chowder in a sourdough bread bowl. The soup was chunky and had a lot of clam pieces inside which I enjoyed. I thought the bread had a great texture, soft on the inside and not too hard outside. My only complaint was that the soup to bread ratio was uneven. I felt like there was way too much bread and not enough soup, which was a bit upsetting. Also, the bread turtle looked really cute, but was rock hard despite not being out for long. This made it very difficult to eat even after dipping the pieces into the soup. Overall, I would recommend this location if you're craving clam chowder bread bowls. The service is quick and the restaurant is very clean. Unfortunately, I think the bread animals are more for picture purposes, so I would most likely not order one again. read more

We stopped by for lunch on Black Friday, so the very large crowd was expected. The line itself to order was not long, but almost every table was full upon entry. Once we found a table, it took about 10 minutes for our food to arrive. What I found to be odd was that we were told at the register that our food needed to be packaged to-go (I'm assuming this is due to most tables being filled). I had no issue with this, but it only took me a minute to find a table and the people in line behind us received numbers to put at their table; it just felt a bit silly after how easily we found a table and when the bread bowl we ordered arrived with the soup and bowl packaged separately due to the to-go form. We ordered grilled cheeses and the bread bowl with tomato soup to share. They offered sides of salad or chips with the grilled cheese. Overall, it was definitely very filling. I personally don't think the grilled cheese on its own is enough to fulfill. Sharing the Rustic Tomato Bread Bowl was definitely a smart choice to pair with the grilled cheeses. The quality of the food was pretty decent. All in all, Boudin is a pretty solid choice at South Coast. read more
