The food came promptly, was hot and tasty. However, the dining room was a mess. Every table was dirty and I was a bit perturbed that I put my phone case on a sticky syrupy spot. I used to run restaurants and I always made it a point to do a dining room run to check for the cleaniness of the floors and tables, windows and doors, as well as chat with customers. I would like to suggest that this be done. In the 45 minutes that we were there, not a single person came out to wipe down the tables, windows, and sweep the floors...I didn't even bother going to the restroom. Had the worst experience at Boudins. Ordered a pastrami melt and turkey havarti sandwich and they were awful. The turkey meat tasted disgusting and the sandwich barely had anything on it. The baguette was really hard to eat. The pastrami melt had very little meat in the sandwich. Overall, the food did not look good and did not taste good. I also got the broccoli cheddar soup, the cup was only 3/4 full and it was overly salty. I waited almost 30 minutes for my order and I was the only one waiting on my order after 8pm. It wasn't busy. There was a sign on the door saying "short staffed. Online orders only." So I downloaded the app and put my order in after the employee at the counter said online only also. I'm usually a clam chowder in bread bowl kind of girl but I thought I would opt for something different this time around. I ordered takeout for my family on a Friday night through their website. When I arrived, there were only a few customers dining inside, and another family that arrived just after me. I ordered two melts and a half sandwich / half soup combo. The order was ready in about 10 minutes and everything was freshly made. For the melts, I tried the seasonal pastrami melt and short rib melt. I'm not a big fan of rye which is the default for the pastrami so I switched it out to sourdough. I love Boudin's sourdough. Unfortunately they did not switch out the bread and I didn't notice until I got home. Pretty disappointing especially since they weren't busy. The pastrami was pretty good but it could've used a little bit more flavor. I was not a fan of the rye which didn't surprise me. It was too dry for me. The short rib melt was disappointing. The bread had a Parmesan crust on the outside, which overpowered the entire sandwich. The short rib itself was also lacking in flavor. The clam chowder was good as usual, a cozy treat on a cold December night. I also got my dad a burger which was pretty standard. Food here is 3 stars but I'm giving it two stars because they got my order wrong, the pastrami and short rib melts weren't that good, and it's too expensive overall for what it is. I went to the location in Vacaville, Ca with my wife and daughter. Crispy parm sandwich had a little piece of chicken and a whole lot of bread. All I tasted was bread. My wife ordered an almond croissant. It was delivered twenty minutes after the rest of our food and after we asked the workers, several times, about where the croissant was. Once the croissant was delivered is was plain and not almond. I told the worker it was the wrong croissant and he stated the the almond was "86ed" from the menu and that was all they had. He did eventually find an almond croissant which led to my wife getting sick. Awful restaurant. That ahi tuna salad was AMAZING!! The tuna was prepared at a perfect medium rare and it was seasoned lightly to allow the natural flavor of the fish to come through. Unsurprisingly, the produce was crisp and fresh and delicious (as it always is in California). It was served with the side of some kind of sweet wasabi dressing. Now I hate wasabi but that dressing was amazing! It was a strangely perfect compliment to the rest of the salad. Even after adding avocado the salad was still under 20 bucks. They also included a piece of yummy sourdough, which was (unsurprisingly) delicious. Realized through the help of an employee that the 'Pick a Pair' was a great deal. We opted for soup/sandwich pairs and the amount of soup they give you in the combo is the same amount you get in a regular bread bowl. And you can just add $1 for the bread. Its actually quite a lot of food this way. Our Pick a Pair came out to $11.89 and that was for half (a large half) a sandwich and an entire soup breadbowl. It was so much food that none of the 4 adults that ordered this could finish their entire meal. Oh and the breakfast burrito was semi small so I would skip that. read more

This place is terrible. There is no way this franchise is still in business. Everything is tastes pre-made although it advertises as fresh. I got the pastrami sandwich, which was edible, but not enjoyable. My girlfriend got the French dip, and that tasted actually horrible. The beef was beef jerky tasting roast beef. 4:1 bread to meat ratio. The side salads were both bad, house and Caesar. There is no way any of the salads are good for you and tasty to eat. 8/28/2021 Outlet window shopping today in Vacaville and we had skipped out on breakfast so decided to brunch in the Nut Tree area of Vacaville! When in doubt of what to have for lunch and there is a Boudin SF around; we will sometimes start craving the classic warm comfort chunky clam chowder (especially now that I'm away from SF over 2 hours!) Boudin SF is known for their sourdough bread. Crusty crispy exterior with a chewy sourdough yum interior. One of my preferred bread choice! No matter which boudin you go to, the chowder is on point in consistency! It's more of a chunky potato clam chowder so if you like chowder that has chunks of potatoes in it, this will satisfy you! Coming here today opened our eyes to how big their menu has gotten over the years. They now have burgers + impossible burgers and tons more salad options! We still opted for the (2) classic clam chowder both with bread bowl - 1 specifically mention to be on the side for today's lunch, added 1 chicken Caesar salad and 1 searious steak salad with dressing on the side. These options come as a "pick a pair" option. The bread bowl option is an added for $1 cost. Hubs got the clam chowder in the bread bowl, I like mine on the side as I like to smear some buttahhhh and just eat it as a side. I'm a carb loving bread person, when the chowder is inside it makes the bread too soggy for me plus it's a hot mess breaking it up to eat it! Our order arrived and both chowders were inside the bread bowls :( i had to send one back for it to be on the side. When I got the dish back, the steak salad dressing wasn't on the side but tossed in :( The steak on the searious steak salad was over cooked and tough to even cut and chew. I always look forward to stopping here during long drives. There's an outdoor area with heaters for my dog to enjoy. The food is always good and service is pleasant. Can't go wrong with the half combos where you can get soup and salad or sandwich and soup or sandwich and salad. However, I chose the half soup combo with the half burger while my daughter ordered clam chowder in a bread bowl. For the burger portion, I chose the California burger. I didn't even read what the ingredients were because I felt that if it has "California " in the name that avocado would be added (which I love) and it was. This was the first time I had a burger at Boudin's SF. When I lifted the burger off of the plate, there was a thick burger-sludge like substance that slid off of the burger. It was the color of the burger but not the consistency or density of the burger. Another thing that bother us was after we ordered and sat down with our number, it took a while to get food which is fine because it was busy, but after our food was delivered, we waited for our drinks which didn't come. Boudin is consistent with their food quality and presentation. However, this branch is lacking in delivering 100% customer service and are inefficient with their order fulfillment. This is my second negative occurrence when ordering through GrubHub. I am not quite sure if the flaw or disconnection was caused by one of the Boudin Vacaville staff member who is responsible of fulfilling orders or a major glitch with GrubHub's website. Please explain something to me, Boudin & GrubHub. If there is an option for customers to "Add Notes" in the GrubHub website/app by entering special instructions in that field such as requesting to remove or add items to an order due to a food allergy or other notes, then shouldn't a staff member get the memo once the order is placed? Hmm...maybe it was too tiny to read the notes in the printed receipt in Boudin's system? Let's just say the note got lost in the rabbit hole and made its way to the Matrix. Then you spot another field called "Notes to Restaurant " at checkout and enter the same notes from "Add Notes" just in case your notes don't appear from "Add Notes" but turns out that too was ignored! What is the likelihood of a staff member to overlook a customer's special instruction? Sounds pretty careless of the staff to fulfill an order without taking the time to review the notes section(s) of the receipt. With that said, I specifically wrote that I wanted two clam chowders as part of my Family Meal combo but was forced to select Beef Chili and Clam Chowder just to proceed to the Checkout/payment window. So I was hoping for the staff members to read my notes of preparing two clam chowders and not the beef chili bowl. Once I arrived to pick up my order, I saw the beef chili in the plastic. So I kindly asked a female staff member (heavy set with black shirt who worked her shift when I picked up my order at 11:42am). She was unfriendly when I asked her that I specifically asked for 2 clam chowders and not the beef chili. She took my order, swapped the items, handed my meal, and turned her back without a word or greeting. I sensed that she was irritated. Hello?! It is Covid time, y'all! Boudin and other restaurants needs to raise their standards to provide 100% customer service to retain loyal customers especially during this pandemic. Many famous restaurants are shutting down their places due to expensive rental costs and cannot afford to operate any longer! Wearing masks can make a person nutty and moody like forgetting your manners or hide facial expressions of distaste. However, Boudin's management should have more training programs to teach their employees on food service etiquettes and perform simple gestures like handing food to customers and nicely waving while saying, "Thank you. Have a nice day!" I have worked at a fast paced environment at the SFO airport with extremely long lines and impatient passengers waiting to be served but always smiled and go the extra mile to satisfy our guests. Staff should compensate customers by speaking with a friendly tone of voice and do basic greetings to make a guest feel appreciated and less offended by their clumsiness of fulfilling orders. So I ordered the half sandwich and half soup through Door dash. I made adjustments on my sandwich (chicken pesto) and changed the bread from sourdough to Italian flat bread. I was hoping the bread would of been softer and easier to eat but I was wrong! The bread tasted stale and very hard almost broke my tooth. The soup itself was good, but I think all the breads were over toasted. It was sort of hard biting into them. I had a hair in my clam chowder and I told someone and he asked me if I wanted a new one, but then tells me to bring it up to the front myself to request for a new one. That was awkward. I honestly wouldn't return because this location was messy. The tables weren't clean, the chairs had crumbs left on them. Update: First restaurant we dined at once Phase 2 of COVID shelter in place shortly began. We sat outside in the patio. Upon entering, an area in the restaurant was sectioned off. It looked like half capacity in the restaurant. All employees wore masks and gloves. Fountain drink station is closed. You can either pay for beverages, bottled water or request tapwater in a plastic cup. The employee busing the tables was very hospitable and welcomed us back! I observed all tables were cleaned and sanitized after a customer has vacated the table. All in all, another great visit to this restaurant. This is our fave place for lunch! Just recently we decided, after living here for three years, to try this restaurant. Boy, what a pleasant surprise! When you walk in, the restaurant gives you a warm and cozy feeling. Nice atmosphere. Lighting is soft and not bright. Decor is dark furniture, dark floors. There are booth seats and table seating. They have an outside patio dining area. Hubby and I both ordered the two item combo. Had the Cobb salad and pesto avocado toast, and he got the Asian chicken salad and tuna melt sandwich. If you are salt sensitive or on a restricted salt diet as I am, don't get the pesto avocado toast, haha. Needless to say, I had no idea it was so salty and had to give more than half of it to hubby. Downed a ton of water afterwards. Other than that snafu, everything was delicious. I love the toasted multigrain bread. The salads were fresh with just enough dressing to not make the lettuce soggy. The burgers here are greasy and I am 80% sure have a wheat based binding ingredient. If you are GF I don't think the burger here is safe at all.
