I LOVED this experience. After reading about the history of the Paris bouillons (highly recommend a quick google search) I had to ensure I got to visit one during my short stay in the city so I made a reservation at this location in advance. Not all of the locations allow reservations, so I highly recommend you make one if you are interested in going. If you do not make a reservation, you can wait in line to get in but when we arrived at 10 PM on a Saturday night the line was at least 20 people long so keep that in mind! The restaurant has a really fun, upbeat, energy and all the wait staff were very kind and spoke English with us when needed. There were a few groups celebrating birthdays and throughout the night the full restaurant would burst out in joyous singing to celebrate. Everything on the menu is extremely affordable, so this is a great place to try classic French dishes without breaking the bank. Everything we had was really good, my favorite was the French onion soup and the eggs mayonnaise (which won an award in 2019)! Keep in mind it's not the absolute best food you can find in Paris but the goal of these restaurants is to provide good quality classic French food at a reasonable price and they certainly meet that expectation. While they were certainly other tourists present, there were a ton of locals as well, so don't worry about doing something "too touristy" by coming here. Highly recommend, this will definitely be on my list of Paris recommendations that I give to friends moving forward! read more

Very popular restaurant I think due to the price? They have two floors and always completely packed with a huge line. The price for food value is honestly really really good. Our main courses were Beef bourguignon , which had a dull plain flavor, and Steak Frittes, which the steak was extremely tough and hard to cut much less chew. A couple next to us asked me if my steak was also tough. They were also not happy. I had two bites and I was done. The lemon meringue pie was also dry from being uncovered in a cold refrigerator. Yes, it's cheap, but honestly not worth the time or inexpensive price tag. We were by the parking garage and it seemed like it was fast, but we stood in line for less than an hour. We basically looked up the menu online and picked out the food.. made it so much more efficient when it came time to order. They're always calling out if there are singles or party of two before we even got to the front, so if you're a smaller party, you won't have to wait very long. We got to they restaurant right when it opened at around noon. There was a short line to get in. The menu looked like it was 1980 prices. $4 onion soup. $12 lamb entree. $10 beef bourguignon. My advise is if you see a long line maybe it is not worth your time. Time is money. 72 hour braised Lamb dish with white beans ($12) was actually a highlight and is on par with a regular brasserie charging $50, if not more. But if you come early enough and sit outside on the second floor, $6 barrel aged cocktail, $30 Samur, it was a pretty damn good lunch. Cute little bouillon that I highly recommend if you're in the area! Coming in around 11 pm, it was quite busy. We saw a crowd of people and we weren't sure how exactly it worked, but then figured out that it was a winded-up line. It was loud and the ambience was lively. Listen out for them to call, because sometimes when there are big groups in front they'll call out for groups of 2,3 people to fill smaller tables. The first time we missed this as it was in French and the couple behind us got to get a table. Next time, we were ready and got our table for 2, bypassing the large groups in front. We waited ~20 mins. Don't be intimidated by the line, it moves fast. The waiter spoke English which was helpful, and they had a English menu as well. Prices were amazing for Paris. You can get a bottle of wine for 10€ and a beef bourguignon for the same price! We ordered the beef, salad, and escargot. The escargot was very flavorful as was the beef. We asked for bread (how can you not eat bread all the time in France) as well, and that was good. Service was attentive and we left with full bellies. When they first opened years ago, they were a star. But things have declined. First, this place is extremely busy with long lines and two floors filled with tables. I think that the place must be understaffed as often the bus boys will serve and provide the bill. The waiters are extremely busy and efficient carrying plates on large trays and up and down both arms with the exception of one who is closest to the kitchen, is the noisy one, and manages to only carry out two plates at a time. First, some of the translations are off. I informed the manager. On the English menu it notes pork shank but on the French menu is Jarret du porc. Both different parts of the pork. I was told that they had both so I ordered the port shank and got the Jarret du porc which is the pig's knuckle and not a shank. Second, the escargots are stuffed way in the back of tiny shells. Not only did I have problems in trying to take the escargot out but so did two other diners. I also informed the manager of this. One dinner thought that perhaps they were cutting back on costs with smaller escargots but the manager denied this. The waitress took the escargot out for me and it even took her some time to do so. In most French restaurants it is service compris. Since a year ago, this restaurant has followed the trend of requesting a tip. I asked the manager about this and he said that service compris only comprises their salary. But the salary in France is not the minimum as waiters are paid adequately so tips aren't rquired as in the USA. I think they have implemented this because so many of the diners are tourists and many from the USA that are used to tipping. In tour books, they will tell you that one might leave the change but that service compris includes the tip. There are several French items that were taken off the menu from a year ago. While there are some French staples, nothing special which takes time to cook. With the volume of customers they serve, this lowers costs but it becomes a type of military, school type cooking with huge volume of food cooked and which is quick to reheat. Customer service is generally at the lower end of French restaurants but this is a BOUILLON and customer service is not at all which is offered in the USA, but you will be reminded that this is not the USA, it is France. I received the wrong order and had to send it back. The American woman next to be order a 1/2 carafe or wine but got a full bottle. The French soup used to be a rich broth but now has been watered down. In my bread bowl, I received a piece of bread that looks like it was half eaten. The bathroom has long lines and is not handicapped accessible. One has to go down some rather narrow steps to reach the bathroom. But Pairs overall is not very handicapped accessible. Tourists are generally like Americans and are in a rush. Going in to eat quickly and then leave. As mentioned, the lines are long and it is NOT worth the wait outside in the cold weather. In summer time, there is probably no problem in waiting outside. But given the past publicity, this is a place to go for the experience. However, it should be noted that there are different types of Bouillons through the city and many of these (it is not a chain) are smaller and charming. read more

Cold and in search of hot food, we joined the line, which moved fairly fast, assuming it was fairly decent considering the l. The restaurant is two floors with ample, but close quarter seating. Came here for dinner with some good friends of ours on our Parisian vacation. Line was long but they exclaimed they were moving quite fast despite the line. We think because it was New Year's Day that the restaurants pickings were slim and this was one of the really good ones that were open. Had dinner at this restaurant a few days ago. Our night started with a considerable wait of about 45 mins under some drizzle. I got word from a local (my AirBnb owner) that this place is must place to eat. The wait wasn't so bad considering I was waiting to eat authentic French food in Paris and was so looking forward it!! The ambiance was that of a typical Parisian resto where you are elbow to elbow with the person on the next table. But I knew that this was part of the experience. The food was the highlight. I loved my duck which had fat and was cooked for perfection. And to cap the night, I was surprised with my check. The prices were reasonable and not expensive at all. I would have spent about $ 40-60 more for the same meal in the States. This was our first meal in Paris. We decided to come here because it was close to our hotel, had a great price, cool vibe and continuous service. We wanted to have an early dinner because we knew we'd be jet lagged. We had dinner at about 5pm Monday and were able to get seated right away. We were excited about the menu because it had some familiar food and new items that we were eager to try. The staff was great and they had an English menu for us. To start we ordered the marrowbone, smoked herring & potato salad and brawn (headcheese). My husband really enjoyed the brawn and herring as this is something that he eats at home a lot (they are Russian). My bone marrow was good but my only complaint was the bread was way to over toasted. You can see how it's partially black in the picture. For our mains I ordered the burgundy beef stew and my husband ordered the steak and fries. Both were good. Nothing amazing but for the price you can't beat it. Like Carmine's, Boullinon Pigalle serves fabulous, authentic food at reasonable prices to large numbers of people. On our trip to Paris we ate the Boeuf Bourgignon on serval occasions and this was by far the tastiest, with the most tender meat and wonderful sauce at the CHEAPEST price. The rare tourist trap that actually delivers. Bouillon Pigalle is a slickly branded bistro hawking classic French dishes at bargain prices. Most dishes are under 10 euro, and portions are quite large. Wine is also quite affordable, with bottles of house wine under 10. It can get quite busy and loud, but we had no problem getting a table around 1 (it looked a bit tougher as we were leaving) and service was good. They have menus in many languages and bathrooms are clean and spacious. It's a nice vibe despite the tourist factor, with classic decor and lots of light. As far as the food goes, a couple of dishes were exceptional, and the rest were great with only one miss. When you factor in the prices and that you're able to get a wide variety of food, this is a must-stop. Homemade fish rillette (3,80) was a little fishy for us, but was a generous portion. Snails in parsley butter (7) were classic and tasty. Marrowbone (3,90) is a ridiculous deal-- more than you can comfortably put on the included toasts and so rich. It's wild that it's treated as a luxury good in America when it can be such a simple and affordable pleasure. Beef tartare (10,50) wasn't our favorite of the trip but was good, and is quite filling with the included fries. Salt cod and potato mash (9,20) was positively decadent; creamy, buttery, and with good bits of fish. Get this! Finally, the house rosé was solid, and the sparkling rosé was even better. We had a reservation but still had to wait for a table while we watched people waiting outside get seated before us. The wait staff was rude and unhelpful. It is a huge mistake if you go to Paris without stopping by Bouillon Pigalle. Why? Simply because it is the very few places you can try the food that the Parisiens cook and eat with families on Sunday. If you see a long line in front of the restaurant, please don't get intimidated - actually there are 200 tables inside of this house and the line moves pretty fast. The young guy at the door diverting people to tables is very friendly and helpful, always carries a nice smile and answers people's questions. For appetizers - herrings, foie gras, escargots, and crab bisque soup are all exceptional choices. The onion soup and fish sauce are ok. For dishes, beef Bourguignon, tete de veau, pot au feu, and the cauliflowers with grilled cheese are the best in my view. I have never been shy not speaking French at this place and I even insulted them by asking for menus in exotic languages, such as Chinese... And surprisingly they have it! Not only in Chinese, but also menus in Japanese, Russian, Portuguese... So please, don't forget to annoy the waiters for exotic menus too! Actually, not every waiter in this place is super nice but it can't be a reason to stop you. Our meal at Bouillon Pigalle was the culinary highlight of our time in Paris. We're a family of 5 (casual) vegetarians, traveling with our 3 young children, and trying not to completely break the bank in Paris. Bouillon Pigalle was the perfect meal. The service was friendly (and our waiter spoke much better English than we speak French), the food was excellent and extremely affordable by paris, We started off with a rash of appetizers, oeufs mayonnaise, radishes with a green'ish sauce, Pomme Frittes and some kind of potatoes that seemed to be mashed, squeezed out of a cake decorator and then deep fried and tomatoes with some kind of delicious salty accompaniment. For entrees, we went with a Pistou (pesto without pine nuts) soup, and creamed rice and asparagus (a wild rice mix cooked in a broth, with a béchamel and asparagus). For dessert, pot de creme and some kind of fancy creme puff. The whole thing set us back less than 70 euro, and apart from our (very friendly and approachable) waiter ignoring us for half an hour when we were trying to ask for the check (I expect to slow down his very buy service) the experience was perfect. When we got there around 7:00 PM, the line was still inside the building and getting a table took about 15 minutes. When we left around 9:00 PM, it was headed out the door and around the block. read more

On our last day in Paris, we ate lunch at Bouillon Pigalle. A friend of ours recommended this place for inexpensive French cuisine. The service was decent (a little slow to be honest), and the food itself was decent. I ordered the burgundy beef stew, coquillette pasta, and it's basically beef on macaroni. There wasn't enough sauce to really be a stew in my opinion so the beef was slightly dry. Overall it was okay. It's really one of those "cheap eats for decent food and portion size".
