I asked the staff if they had anything gluten-free, and it took them a minute to get back to me. They had misplaced their allergen menu, so they couldn't guarantee anything. This spot really took me back to Paris! I had heard of this place from a friend so we decided to skip the line at another popular cafe in Georgetown and go here instead. They are super quick with their service here. A bit chaotic with all the people ordering but we were able to get our order placed quickly. We got two coffees and two pastries. There were so many amazing pastries to choose from but we got the pistachio dessert and a chocolate eclair. We took the desserts to go but they were both phenomenal. So many tempting pastries, breads, and cakes to choose from, where to begin?! We shared a delicious chicken salad croissant which was somehow buttery and creamy without feeling too heavy. We also bought a big piece of berry clafoutis recommended by the staff to go- very traditional French dessert (we ended up having it for breakfast the next day!). We stopped at this place as part of our food tour in Georgetown, called cobblestones and croissants... I left a review about that on Viator. The place is known for having the best croissants in the DC area. The chef is French and came exclusively to this area to bring his famous croissants to the US. The chef has won several awards for his croissants, which are authentically made with butter. Something I learned while having my croissant was that croissants made with 100% butter are not folded into the well-known crescent shape, they are straight. Croissants that are folded into the crescent shape have something in addition to butter fat. Butter or not, I will always be down to munch on a croissant! We tried the almond croissant, and it is by far the best croissant I've ever had in my life. My favorite is in Las Vegas at the Bouchin Bakery, and I am sorry to say that the one from this place is my new favorite. The croissant was so buttery and flaky. You could literally peel the layers off and each bite had a wonderful buttery flavor. The top had a nice sheen and gloss and it was sweetened just right. The café is very busy and it is a bit deceiving because all of the seating is in the back. As you walk in and go past the place where you order and cash register, the bakery opens into a quaint quad that looks like a garden. It is shaded by a pergola to protect from the elements and while we were there, the sun came out so we were able to enjoy our croissants in the midmorning sun. We were lucky and we found a table large enough for our party. While we were there, everybody around us was also enjoying their pastries. The staff was very friendly and accommodating, and kept the tables and the area very clean. I definitely recommend this place. If you wanna try the world's best croissant while you are in DC, actually the Georgetown area. You will not regret it. Enjoy! read more

Saturday morning with friends was absolutely wonderful at Boulangerie Christophe. Be prepared for a line out the door and down the sidewalk, but for once, it's worth it. The food is that good. The chocolate coissant was the best I have ever had, very flaky, The French love to cook with butter and this place carries that in style. My ham and cheese baguette was delicious. Finally had the chance to enjoy desserts at this wonderful spot! On past visits (always on a Saturday), the line was too long, but going during the week worked perfectly. I came around opening on a Sunday morning to enjoy a nice quiet morning coffee with my book and I have discovered a new favorite bakery! The service is quick and the baristas are so friendly. They are happy to give recommendations and answer any questions you have. The display case is gorgeous and packed with all kinds of yummy fresh pastries and croissants and such. I settled on the apricot croissant, a vanilla latte, and a crème brûlée to go. There's a cute open air courtyard in the back to sit in and get a breeze. This place only works with nice weather, as the main seating is a semi-outoors space. They apparently have heaters up above on the walls, and are able to close the ceiling "jalousies", so perhaps also ok when it's a bit cooler. They seem distinctly interested in social customers--or solo ones with OG materials like books--since there is no outlet other than the one behind the barista counter, and no wifi. I actually quite like the fact that there is no music, the only sounds are the quiet conversations of the social customers (including classic "DC" convo about a girl losing her job given the WB phase-out of STCs). It is a lovely, breezy atmosphere with this interior-exterior space flanked on one side with exposed brick, on the other side with regular brick painted over with a mural of the outside of a house, Paris-giving round tables and chairs, a smaller space for two larger round tables elevated by two steps and surrounded by garden-style white picket fences (without the pickets), and cute photographs of their food ware. Speaking of the latter, I had a cappucino (way too weak, even though I asked for an extra shot :-( and a brewed coffee--unfortunately even more watery and thin :-(( along with cheese/ garlic/ chives omelette, which came with an simple lettuce salad and a zuccini/tomato sauce. The food came on a nice decorated plate but unfortunately the cutlery was somewhat flimsy plastic--not sure why a place like this wouldn't have metal cutlery. The meal looked and tasted very much like what a friend may cook up for you when visiting on a Saturday morning. Nonetheless, overall chill, lovely atmosphere, so, 5 stars! read more
