The best thing on the menu is what is in their name. The bread! Sesame semolina is the right amount of crusty with toasted sesame seeds outside, use it for a sandwich, have it with a smear of butter and marmalade or dip it into a romesco or baba ghanoush-- a more elegant and less dense version of Whole Foods' now discontinued Pain de campagne. The Jambon Beurre is as Parisian as it gets. The baguette is perfect, butter satisfying, topped with good ham and gruyere. All elementary age group kids including ours were biting into honey glazed donuts and not one could be heard complaining, must be good. Lemon pound cake, a well made, delicate pound cake. After reading multiple reviews mentioning burnt bread or pastries, we were worried. Our fears almost came true in the toasted everything bagel with cream cheese, with one side dark, closer to black--some may call it burnt. But good news, I love my bagels a tad over toasted, it was a win-win. It is a very good bagel, does it stand a chance against Pearls's, no. Hazelnut ganache bar is a good cross between a fudge and a mousse, the citrus helps balance the dark chocolate and nuts. Not too sweet, great for sharing on a hike or eat it all by yourself. Least favorite item--maritozzo or the italian sweet bun--the whipped cream couldnt hide the over egginess--too eggy even for a brioche bun--plus not too much going on for it flavor wise. Service is fast, queues move quickly and ordering process is efficient, especially when compared to a a few years ago. Retail part of the store is enticing--jams, jellies, candies, crackers, wines. We stopped looking around after a point to keep ourselves from buying. Yes, they could do with more indoor seating. On a rainy day like today, it was crowded inside (which it usually is!) with everyone eyeing the 8?or so counter stools.

I drove down to DC from Baltimore and lined up outside of Bread Furst at 7 AM. They have a huge selection of delicious breads and baked goods. My favorite was the crusty fresh whole wheat loaf. I also had a delicious croissant, crispy on the outside chewy and butter in the inside. The Kougin Aman was very nice. I also had some yummy cookies: chocolate chip, oatmeal, cherry, and a special raspberry pistachio. Everything was delicious!

Easy to stop in on my way to the metro. Fast and polite service! Delicious ice coffee and monkey bread. Never disappointed!

I loved the vibe of this place! They had so many cute kitchen accessories and interesting foods to try on their shelves. The people who helped me were very nice and it seems like a place with a lot of regulars. I got a coffee from here and it was very tasty for a decent price. I also tried their monkey bread and it was very cinnamon-y and crispy.

A lovely little shop, full of snacks, some home goods, and many fresh bread/pastries and coffee. I got a bear claw and it was very flakey and had a great flavor to it. The tiramisu coffee was also quite tasty - a good balance of the coffee to the sweetness. I could probably spend thirty minutes just looking through everything in the shop. Definitely worth a little trip!

I heard many great reviews of this place (despite the Yelp rating) so I wanted to try myself. I think this would be a perfect cafe in NW DC... there was plenty of seating outdoors while indoors was meant for ordering + going through their non-bakery items. I was honestly overwhelmed by the number of pastry items on display, so I got a standard berry-filled pastry item (I forgot its name). It was pretty efficient to eventually make my way to pay for my item. I will say this is probably the most expensive pastry I've ever bought anywhere in DC, and it was only above average. I'm glad I tried this place though, and I'm intrigued to come by again

Sandwiches were premade, not made to order. My partner and I had the chicken adobo (which is far from any adobo I've ever had) and the italian veggie sando. Bread felt tough, meat/veggie to bread ratio was disappointing. Wish it was made to order. Nice place, plenty of local goods for sale. But I'd steer away from the sandos and stick to the pastries.

2/3 of a croissant?? Much smaller than it used to be

The attached picture is what was just sold to me as a croissant at Bread Furst. But it's not a croissant, this is 2/3 of a croissant with 1/3 missing!! At these stratospheric prices, you should at least get a whole pastry. Mr Furst, you can do better, and please stop telling your bakers to burn the bread. It's not what bakeries do in France, it's just burnt! 3 stars because it still tastes good.

Everyone here was so polite and nice, but I found the food to be slightly lacking. To be fair, this place is Bread Furst, and their pastries/bread did shine. In particular, the pain au chocolate was really great. It was buttery and sweet and had a good flake - all elements of a great croissant. But Bread Furst also sold some food in its fridge, and we tried their barley soup (which was way too acidic for me), and their eggplant dip (quite bland in my opinion). I'd come back to try their other breads! They sell some home decor (e.g., dishes) and some specialty goods (e.g., different kinds of salts).

Lovely wine bar in Cleveland Park!…read more We dined in on a Friday night with a party of six. They had seated us in the front window, but the sun was really shining so they were very accommodating, and helped to move our table into a shadier spot. We started with a round of cocktails and appetizers. My husband enjoyed the apricot Manhattan and I tried the Key West daiquiri. The lavender and pea cocktail was also very refreshing. The hummus platter featured four different hummus's. The harissa was our favorite. The Burratta salad and tart flambe was nice to share. We proceeded with ordering three bottles of wine and a few entrees. The petite fillet was delicious. The spring gnocchi was flavorful and the chicken Milanese was a nice portion. We were celebrating a birthday and they brought out a slice of Dulce de Leche cheesecake with a candle! Service was very nice. Clean bathrooms and short walk to Cleveland Park Metro.

Little Blackbird is phenomenal!…read more I've been here a few times and have never been disappointed. Great service from super friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable staff. A large wine list that they know back to front and can recommend wines from based on your food choices and personal tastes. An elegant but not ostentatious interior. But first and foremost, incredible food. There have been a few items I was unsure of when reading the descriptions, but I have always been blown away by the thoughtfulness and balance that comes with each or their dishes. Of note, their seared scallops that came with a savory and sweet white chocolate sauce were one of my favorite dishes of 2025. Not to mention, the prices here are reasonable and not unnecessarily inflated like other places that market themselves as wine bars. I hope the success here signals a shift in the wine bar model toward unpretentious but thoughtfully designed dishes for a reasonable price. Overall, Little Blackbird is an incredible restaurant that I think deserves more recognition. I will certainly be back soon.

The standout of the morning was the breakfast side potatoes--crispy, seasoned perfectly, and easily something I'd come back for. The breadbasket came with three pastries, which felt a bit smaller than expected, but the almond croissant more than made up for it. On the heartier side, the chicken and waffles were extremely filling thanks to the dense waffles, so definitely a dish to tackle with an appetite. One of the biggest surprises was the brunch salad with salmon, which ended up being one of the best salads I've had in a long time--fresh, balanced, and satisfying. The breakfast sandwich was another highlight: so good that it's now the new standard I'll compare all other breakfast sandwiches to. The smoked salmon bagel was also a fun experience, served deconstructed so you can build each bite exactly how you like it. Not everything was a hit--the French toast wasn't my favorite--but the overall meal was strong enough that it barely detracted from the experience. Brunch offers a few additions beyond the regular breakfast menu, but overall it's very similar to their standard breakfast, just with a couple of extra options. It tends to get full on the weekends to make a reservation. Bottom line: Penbrook is a beautiful hotel restaurant that punches above its weight--excellent service, memorable dishes, and several items worth returning for.

This place is a joke -- where do I even begin?…read more We made reservations for a table on the covered patio this past Friday at 5:30 p.m. My wife, our two kids, and I arrived right on time, and the patio was mostly empty: two tables of four were occupied, while five other tables of four sat empty, along with a few high-tops and seats at the bar. The host was a bit gruff, but initially it didn't seem like a big deal. She seated us all the way in the back of the patio, directly in the path of the setting sun. Since there were plenty of open tables in shaded areas, we politely asked if we could move. We were told no because those tables were "reserved." We reminded the staff that we also had a reservation and asked why we couldn't sit at one of those tables instead. It's not like we walked in without one expecting special treatment. The host just kept repeating, "I'm sorry, but those tables are already reserved." They offered to move us inside or to the front side of the restaurant, but refused to seat us anywhere else on the covered patio. After more back-and-forth, the host finally relented with an annoyed, "That's fine, we can just adjust," and walked us over to a table that had technically still been occupied moments earlier. We then awkwardly stood there waiting for the diners to gather their things and leave while the staff rushed to clean the table. Once we sat down, the host came back out visibly upset, loudly rearranging and slamming tables while muttering to herself -- the only word I clearly caught was "unbelievable." She was obviously unhappy with us. The absurd part is that the "adjustment" she made was incredibly simple: she turned two four-top tables into a two-top and a larger table seating seven. Even after that, two other four-top tables remained untouched. During our meal, one of those tables was given to a mother and her young son, and the other to two dads and their daughters. So I'm still not sure why we were treated as though accommodating us was impossible. The rest of the staff honestly seemed just as uncomfortable with the situation as we were. The food itself was fine, but at that point we probably should have left. I've never been treated with this level of disrespect and disdain at a restaurant before. I honestly don't understand why the host was so determined to stick us in the back. Was it because we had a baby? Or because we didn't fit the racial profile of the clientele they want to attract? Either way, we won't be back.

I do feel the salata was rather small for the price, and feel you -- the customer -- should know none these dishes do not come with rice or bread. It would be nice, I think, if this fact were written in the descriptions -- but apparently, those are AI-generated, or at least the one for the Chutney Sabz is, and it's definitely not what you get! The description says you get four things, but you only get one. Maybe I should've known that from the price, but I only figured it out later, after I'd gotten it. It wasn't clear to me, because I saw both names and photos of four different things and they all sounded so good! It was still rather perfect. It was nice to not have leftovers, too!
