I would give it 2 stars but my daughter really likes their stuff. However friendly their staff is- they seem incapable of filling an order correctly. My first experience was a solid 4+ stars, but subsequent visits have been less consistent. The burgers, when cooked properly to your specifications, are among the top among local burger joints. The toppings are fresh and tasty. The fries are good, too. My first one was properly cooked to medium and was juicy and delicious. Since then, we've had consistent problems with incorrect orders and overcooked burgers. The manager is quick to fix the issue, but I think there is some underlying problem that needs to be addressed. I trust it will be fixed, and I'll continue to come back, hoping to raise its grade. How have I not heard of Boulevard Burger until now? My friend lives in Castro Valley and recommended Boulevard Burger because it's her go to place when she doesn't want to cook. We came here on a whim and I'm glad I gave it a try. I ordered their BLVD burger with lettuce, tomato, pickles, grilled onions, pepper jack cheese and chipotle aioli on the side (glad I got it on the side so that I could use it as a dipping sauce for my curly fries). I only ate half, so it was pretty filling. Decently sized and tasty too. I like that you can fully customize your burger or opt for one of their specialty burgers. I also ordered their spicy curly fries - $3 and enough for two with a side of ranch! They weren't very spicy to me, but I'm not complaining because I personally can't take too much heat. I had enough leftover for lunch the next day and it was still as good! My burger and curly fries were under $10. My friends ordered their mixed green salad (they give you a large portion!) and pulled pork sandwich to name a few. Everything looked good. They have a sizable offering of specialty burgers, sides, sandwiches, salads and shakes (unique flavors such as bananas foster, fruity pebble and english toffee!). I also like that they offer 50/50 (unique blend of ground bacon and beef!), turkey, black bean and chicken burgers - there's something for everyone. Definitely want to come back to try these options. Stopped in for dinner and was not disappointed. He ordered the blue burger and regular fries, I opted for the tuna melt with sweet potato fries. All of our food was extremely satisfying. Move over Val's, there is a new burger king in Castro Valley/Hayward area (no pun intended). And no, I am not talking about the fast food chain; I'm talking about the best burger spot in town. Its hard for me to find a good burger place in that area. I will definitely come back and try some other burgers. Ordered a Guacamole burger with a 50/50 patty and a side of chipotle aioli. A 50/50 patty is made of 50% ground beef and 50% ground bacon. The bacon flavored burger patty was heaven in my mouth. Who doesn't love bacon?! The specialty toppings I got were a little muted for my taste but the side of chipotle aioli brought the burger concoction together. I was hoping for a little more heat from the jalapeños. Also the burger was a little on the smaller side.. on a size spectrum from Umami Burger to Vals, BLVD Burger is more on the Umami side. I suggested going to BLVD burger because I saw their huge trendy sign glowing from CV blvd. Walked in and wasn't disappointed, loved the sign. Anyways, the layout of the restaurant is a little funny. You would think the the main door is the right because you see all the seating on that side. I think the front door is the left one because thats where the menu and cashier are located. I'm very disappointed in how this restaurant has progressed. The food can still be good, if you get it. The service is terrible. They have no sense of how to bring out food for a table. I was given my grilled cheese, obviously because it was getting cold. All the cheese was hard. Then we got the fries. Then five minutes later my fiancé got his burger. The last time we came, he had to eat his salad with a plastic fork, and I was given a ripped off half of a Togo box as a plate. The burger here is picture perfect. Sure, they use a frozen patty, but it comes from a local butcher shop in San Leandro. It comes on a super soft brioche bun, stacked with fixings like onions, tomatoes, and lettuce (at your request). The hamburger is advertised as "cooked medium", but like other reviewers, mine came well. I actually don't mind that because I prefer my burgers to have a firmer texture. The hamburger patty was well formed, still juicy and seasoned with salt and pepper. Onion rings are beer battered and crisp. I'm not sure about all the complaints about BLVD being overpriced. My burger was $5.50. You can't get a burger and fries for less than $15 at any of the new hipster burger joints in San Francisco or Oakland. The seating area was less than half full and every single table had trash on it. We had to move trash to another table just to sit down. The food came out very scattered, first fries, then shake, then a burger, then salmon burger, then 2 salads, then another burger. Is it hard to wait until you have the food ready to serve it? No utensils came with our meal. That's fine - we went looking but their utensil bin was empty. Finally asked for forks for our salads - the kid came back several minutes later with 2 forks saying they didn't have any more clean ones and would we be OK with a plastic one? We were ok with plastic but honestly I've never heard of a restaurant not having clean utensils. The garden salads were good and came in a HUGE bowl. The balsamic dressing was literally gel. Wouldn't even pour out of the cup. The tomatoes were extremely bitter on all the salads. My salmon burger was very very greasy. And I think it's silly they charge like $10 for it and it doesn't come with anything. Just the burger itself. And they have no side salads, you have to order the giant bowl salad. Having eating many times in San Leandro at Paradiso, I thought the owner would have done better than this. I had lunch yesterday and the first sign of not so good was they demand you order a medium or well burger? Seriously? Good burgers are not well done for us true burger fans. That is lousy! The medium burger I ordered was absolutely well done but did have a decent flavor. The 1/3 pound burger appeared thin and smaller than the 1/3 pound burgers I eat at The Creamery just down the boulevard across from the Village Shopping Center. The french fries were stale as if they were sitting in the bin (I did see them sitting in the bin when I was ordering) for a long time. They were not fresh. The bun on the burger was the only highlight as it was a good bun. It looked good, but in the end, the look and the bun were the highlights. The bacon on the burger I got was ok, but a bit greasy. The staff were blah, and did not appear very happy working, no smiles, and the "Have a nice day" sounded like it was something she was required to say and not happy about saying it. Skip it and try a few other places: The burger's at Val's are definitely better (their shakes are awesome at Val's) and The Creamery down the boulevard has fantastic burger selections and A LOT of selections. Nice variety of burgers and sides. I had the black bean burger. The burger was overcooked, making it slightly dry and it crumbled a bit, but it had a good flavor. I opted for the whole wheat bun, which was toasted to perfection and went with the grilled onions instead of the fresh. The amount of grilled onion was a little less than I might have liked, but also tasty. There is a list of add ons offered without charge (jalapeños, grilled onions...) and a few with a nominal extra charge (sautéed mushrooms, avocado...) The lettuce was fresh and generous, with a slice of ripe tomato to accompany. I saw the great reviews for this restaurant and just had to try it myself. It's right on the main Boulevard in Castro Valley, it's not particularly huge but it's big enough inside. There are two large flat screen TVs, but they are not on very loud, so they are not too intrusive. I ordered their classic Boulevard Boulevard with the works. I also got a big basket of french fries. The food was absolutely fantastic! The reviews are all true! Honestly, there is nothing for me to say negative about this place. The help is all very cheerful and work very hard at keeping the restaurant clean. Inside the dining room most of the tables seat 4, but they also tables for two. You can also push the tables together if you're in a big group. The furniture looks very new and well-maintained. There are also tables outside. Today when I visited here, the place was full inside as well as outside. Obviously, the locals know about this place! I had a chance to talk with a number of the staff and also the general manager. These are really nice people here! So all-in-all, and outstanding place. If you're looking for an old fashion Burger and Fries, I think you will be very happy with this restaurant. read more

EDIT: We ordered garlic fries to go. As soon as we got to the car and opened the fries up (literally 60 seconds from getting the bag at the to-go pickup to the car), they were SUPER greasy and all the fries were flaccid and limp. I don't even care about the grease cuz I could taste a lot of garlic flavor, but soggy fries are uber lame for a burger place. That's inexcusable. Someone needs to think that through a little more. Burgers are bland. We ordered the Bronco. It's like they are hoping you won't notice with the other toppings and condiments you add. The patty needs love too. It was brightly lite so I could see it easily from the street. The price was great. I normally spend more at the Habit. The food was fresh and service was good. I got the mushroom Swiss burger and the mushrooms and grilled onions were Luke warm. And the onions were not cut very small a few were bigger then a postage stamp. Onion rings and fries were spot on and they offered ranch rather then us having to ask. My hubby has been raving about their burgers for some time now so we decided to head over so I could try them. They were really good and stayed hot the entire time we ate. I was impressed by the size of the patty as well. We decided to bring our dog with us and sat in the outdoor patio area to eat. What a great experience as the employees greeted him as well. Since my original review I have been back a few times. I went in today, since my last trip they have put in new seating, added items to the menu, put up more decor and got rid of the electronic buzzers. A huge improvement overall. I have to say that I am sad to write this review. I used to love coming here when I first moved to the area (about 5 years ago). Since then, though, the quality of the burgers has really declined. I'm not sure if they switched to pre-made/frozen patties, but that's what it tastes like. We still like the business itself. The people are friendly, the decor is cute, and there's pleasant outdoor seating. The milkshakes are still great. The burgers though. The burgers used to be fresh and juicy. For a sautéed mushroom burger with the works.....taste was still lacking...bland definitely....didn't seem anything was special....it's just a beef patty burger with sautéed mushroom on top. The works is basically tomatoe, grill onions, mayo and lettuce. The patty was a bit dry if there's more juice and seasoning it'll be better I have to add ketchup on top of it for extra flavor. Sweet potatoes was added on the side. I practically ate half into my burger before the fries came out and they definitely didn't look pretty...so sweet potatoe fries I expect the deep orange fries but what I get were brown burn orange fries..... Definitely you can tell I had better for the price I'm paying.... Besides the food itself the place was cute it gave me a carnival feel with inside bench and outdoor seatings. Always saw this place but never stopped by to try it until today. I came for lunch with my mom and brother: my mom and I shared a grilled salmon burger and a side of coleslaw, my brother got the 50/50. The salmon burger wasn't too bad, the salmon was pretty well cooked, but the burger wasn't too unique in itself. It had the salmon filet, a piece of lettuce, and a mayo sauce. The coleslaw was definitely homemade without that pungent coleslaw smell/test; I appreciated that! My brother enjoyed his burger, but it wasn't one of the best burgers he's had. It was an okay experience, we were full after our meal. We hear their shakes are good, so maybe we will come back in the summer time to try those! read more

Worst takeout service! Ordered online and it was supposed to be ready at 7 and we arrived around then. I hate feeling like I need to update this review, but I'm just not as happy with BLVD as I once was. The burgers always seem a little over-salted and if you try and call an order in it's a fiasco. Either they're too busy so they just don't answer the phone (annoying) or you get someone to answer and they either, a) keep saying they can't hear you or b) they ask you to repeat every single thing. I know it gets busy and I know it gets loud. I even know that sometimes my cell phone reception is crud, but when I'm sitting in a quite room with full bars and you keep asking me to take you off of a speaker (which you're not on), well, I just hang up. We've tried about 3 times in the last month and just figured forget it. I guess if I really want to pay extra for a salty burger I can drive down there and order in person. *sarcasm* read more

I've gone here a few times and have tried the regular burger and the chicken burger. With either they were perfect. From the bun to the meat to the fries. Its a great spot to go to with large groups as you order at the counter and don't have extra confusion of a server as the middleman. You can sit where you like and enjoy the relaxed yet cool vibe. When I went to visit Cali....my cousin took me here to have lunch. YUMZOLA!!!! I had the RIB EYE SANDWICH ...it was soooo delish. Customer service was great, there is even alcohol to have with your Burger or whatever you order. Order, find a seat, get your drink, and your condiments ready. Was in the Castro Valley area running a couple errands from over the hill in Pleasanton. So ... First time here, place was fantastic. Between my wife and I we had the ribeye steak sandwich (very good, tender flavor able steak medium rare), the blackened Cajun chicken burger (amazing), Sweet potato fries and regular fries. How in the world does this place only has 3 1/2 stars as a average rating.! It is a solid 4.5 stars in my opinion. Come on yelp, will you finally figure out how to let us give fractional stars?
