Out delivering Christmas presents to our clients and I made, what turned out to be, a fortunate wrong turn. As we were driving along, looking for the next entrance to the freeway...out of the corner of my eye I caught the front window of a burger joint. I made a remark about being and hungry and the co-pilot responded she was too!. Made a U-turn at the next intersection and pulled up in front of Boulevard Burgers...a very original name ....walking into this "retro-style" eatery, the first thing one will spy are the hand made signs announcing all the different kinds of burgers and dishes...They have lamb, Kobe beef, Angus grass feed beef, gyros and veggiehead sandwiches. Struck up a humors and insightful conversation with the chef and waitress/cashier... I enjoy asking questions about the business, how long they have been around, how much foot traffic do they get ...saw a number of folks in for pick up...This is a good thing for a business like this. A bit overpriced, most burgers will run you $8-$10. I got the MBA (mushrooms, bacon, avocado) for $8.95. they skimped on avocados. The burger was decent, but something I could have gotten anywhere else. Though the onion rings are pretty good here. Not sure if frozen but they were pretty good and the value for that was good. Too pricey for a lunch spot. Just feel they could do more to make this place stand out to make this spot a destination place. One odd thing though. I dined in to do a bit of studying and it was 8:15. Someone started blocking off the dining area with chairs while I was eating there. They close at 9 so I guess after 8 they don't want you eating there. Felt rushed after that. read more

I did a web search for a local burger joint today and found this place. I ordered the Boulevard Burger with Monterey Jack cheese and I was blown away. The burger was perfect, cooked medium rare, not difficult to chew like low quality fast food places... the fries were a bit salty for my taste, but not a deal breaker for me. The burger was definitely higher quality than what I expected at the price point I paid... I loved it and I can compare this meat to other higher cost burger restaurants in the city or jack London Square, this burger can hold its own. I will definitely be back for more! read more

I don't understand exactly why these people would do what they do but I ordered food went to go pick it up. It only took 10 minutes. my order was complete except they didn't make the milkshakes. so I stood for 15 minutes waiting to get these milkshakes while my food got cold. It took five minutes longer to make the milkshakes than it did to cook my food. I've tried the burgers in the past, and thought it was great!! Once I realized they served breakfast, I was excited. I ordered a Denver omelet with sourdough toast, once I got home and opened my food, very disappointed. Typical burgers honestly. I'm not going to praise this place like it is absolutely to die for, but it's not terrible! I feel that the prices are a little absurd in comparison to other burger joints. One time I came here and only ordered a burger and it was $8 and some change not including fries. I know that I can get a meal from In-N-Out for about $6 and be completely satisfied to the T. This place is pretty good if you can afford it! The prices aren't crazy overwhelming, but to me, just a bit unreasonable. It's a casual place. It's not a super fancy shmancy restaurant you know? I will say though.. The chicken tenders is by far my most favorite dish here. Also, their ranch is AMAZING! Please never change the ranch ingredients. Less than meets the eye. The burger is beautiful and meaty, with ripe looking tomatoes, red onions, lettuce and pickles. And it has absolutely no flavor. I tried salting it. I swear not even the salt had taste, just an after taste of Iodine. The onion rings were equally bland. Pretty, but bland. And I hate when the onion slides out of it's coating. A person could burn their face that way. That does not happen at "Best Burgers" in San Leandro. I'm not sure what the problem could be, but not even the raw red onions, tasted like an onion. But to be fair, they are new, and finding their way. If they read our reviews they'll know what to fix. The service was good, but they all sported frowns. It has to be tough starting a new restaurant. Drinks are, serve yourself they don't have milkshakes. they do have beer and wine. The review is strictly for the service. I came here during a busy week night for dinner. We placed our order at the counter and proceeded to seat ourselves at one of the few tables available. 40 minutes later, still waiting for our burgers (there were only two of us) and the crowd was disipating. I kindly went up to the counter and said we've been waiting about 40 minutes for our food. Waitress #1 rudely pointed behind the counter and said, "Do you see those orders? We're busy today." I then told her I wanted to make sure that our order wasn't overlooked. She said, "It's not!" and walked away. It would of made me feel better if she at least walked over to the line of orders and tell me what place I was or assure me that my order was still coming. No apology, nothing. About 15 minutes later (in total 55 min of waiting for TWO burgers), we had to go. By this time, the dining room was about 25% full. I requested a refund and Waitress #2 was quick to say okay. No apology for waiting, nothing to keep us from waiting for our order. She just told the cook to remove our order. I understand that there were a lot of people therefore the wait, but for almost an hour with rude service, it just doesn't justify. This is a great addition to the neighborhood. It's definitely noisier than the place that used to be here before (Sonoma's), mostly because of the coke machine. There are also kid noises where there were none before. The hamburgers are terrific - $5 for the basic (with all the trimmings), $6 for the Calif burger with cheese and avocado. Fries are good but not great (baked?). You can get free refills on the coke. And all the condiments are right at your table, including ample napkins. Apparently the cashier is also "the owner" which indicates that they need to save money... Probably because they lose so many visitors due to the TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! He's one of those standard latin twink divas with a really prissy attitude. So, first, he tried to overcharge me for my burger. When I challenged this he lowered the price, but then verbally gave me a price that was STILL above what it should have been as he slid my credit card. So I ask him if he overcharged me and he SLAMS MY RECEIPT ON THE COUNTER and says "WHERE DID I OVERCHARGE YOU, HUH?!" the price on the receipt is different than the higher one he had said three seconds ago. Damn, sorry you can't do math nor read your own register and say the correct price! Gladly demanded refund with the same snarky attitude he gave me, asked who the owner was and he hesitated before saying "I am the owner." Then refused to give me his name. We go to Boulevard Burger when we are really hungry and tired and don't want to drive more than the couple of blocks. This week fit the bill. We were tired and ready to eat something quick. The curly fries are fairly good here. I usually just get the burger and fries, but this time I ordered a Special - corned beef on rye sandwich which was good enough. The burgers are usually fine, and they are angus beef. I think the burgers are a little overly seasoned a bit too salty for me but sometimes they are not overdone. It is quick. You order at the counter and then take your number and wait 5 minutes and presto, dinner is ready. It is convenient and the prices are very reasonable. The place is never crowded, or empty just about right for a nice quiet fast food dinner. We get dinner for two for around $20. We will be back. read more

Boulevard Burgers has great service, great food and an extremely interesting location. The burgers are excellent. A minimal amount of seasoning is indeed used, which only validates the quality of the ingredients used. The french fries are superb. I can't figure out how they do them, but the results are great. And what separates BB from the rest of the so -called burger specialty joints is that there is A-1 sauce right on the table---you don't have to ask for it. The location is close to the border of Oakland and San Leandro, places with very different cultures. Typically such places produce great food in a real or virtual fusion of the two cultures. The best example I feel is Strasbourg, where the Sauerkraut restaurants cook German food with French technique. For Boulevard Burger, we might say that it combines Oakland level cooking with San Leandro lack of self consciousness and pretense. And the neighborhood is visually interesting as well to an urbaniste. read more

The food is good but twice now i have had issues with my order. Most recently, i was given the wrong order when I ordered take out. I drove all the way home to San Lorenzo only to find that I was given a tuna melt instead of the $17 ribeye steak sandwich meal i had ordered. I called to let them know I was coming back. We ordered our burgers to go and based on the fact that meat continues to cook after it's removed from the heat we ordered our burgers medium-rare and when we got home they were medium; just the way we like them. We have eaten there four times now and everything has been great, just as we ordered and the crew there is very focused on making sure you get what you want, the way you want it. Trying to lean on the healthy side, we have been getting their salmon sandwiches. It is a generous cut of wild salmon, grilled just right. I get it with grilled onions, mushrooms and avocado on a whole wheat bun. Can't get any healthier than that, right? And it is only six bucks! I was hesitant due to the low ratings, but the 3.5 stars is way off on this one. I know why that's the rating.. it's not too attractive, outside or in. It's like a dive burger place but without much character. But what it lacks in cosmetics it makes up for in taste. And come on.. who cares what it looks like, as long as the people are nice and the food is good. The burger was really amazing. And I eat a lot of burgers. This one was juicy, but not so much that it dripped everywhere, loaded with delicious toppings, the bun was toasted (!), and it was large enough to satisfy a formidable appetite. It was also reasonably priced (initially it seemed expensive but then I remembered I live in the Bay now). Highly recommend. After getting used to paying $40 for a meal for 2 for a good burger in Oakland I was pleasantly surprised by Burger Boulevard! I got a meal for 3 people for under $30! And oh, what a meal! The grass fed burgers are delicious! My friend had the grilled chicken and my veg husband had the portobello mushroom burger, all agreed the meal was super tasty. We will definitely be back. Great attentive staff and the place wasn't crowded, a blessing. The food was excellent with clearly high quality meats. While my burger was cooked a bit light than I requested, that's far preferable to too well done. Worst case I could ask for it to be cooked more, but I didn't need to as it was tasty just as cooked. They need more selections for kids, such as hot dogs, but I'm told that will come. Big bonus for being locally owned, for being open here where there are a dearth of options for this kind of food. They are also very receptive to feedback and the owner(?) came by to check on us during our meal. The atmosphere is pretty uninspired, but clearly just waiting to be filled out.
