I stopped in here after spotting it driving down 10th St in McAllen. When I stopped in the bar seating was full of boisterous customers who seemed to know each other. The server came to me quickly to see what I wanted to order to drink. They have a good selection of taps. I see they also have specials everyday. Looks like they have live music often also. I'd like to give a higher rating and maybe after another visit I may revise my rating but based on our first visit, a three star is what it is. It was a Saturday, early evening, before any big rush. We were a group of eight and they gladly rearranged seating to accommodate us. They seemed to be short handed as I observed only two wait staff on the floor. Our waiter did the best he could to keep us served. So I give them an E for effort. I ordered a Caesar side salad and a calamari appetizer. When our meals arrived, sans the appetizer and salad I asked our waiter about the omissions. He apologized and asked if I still wanted them both. I still wanted the salad but at this point decided I didn't need the appetizer and passed. On the other hand , the food wasn't as good as we'd hoped. The wife and I ordered their weekend specials - Gumbo and Cajun Alfred Pasta. Neither were up to our expectations. The roux, the heart and soul of any gumbo was pretty bland and while not flavorless was not deep and rich like I've tasted in the past and certainly not as tasty as I've made personally. The wife's Cajun Alfredo had no heat and very slight Parmesan/Romano cheese flavor. All in all a disappointment. Next time we'll try a few other meals. Give them one more chance. read more

3 bad experiences in a row ordering the nachos. Other things I ordered were fine. I don't recommend ordering this to go 1st of all because it will get soggy by the time you get home to eat it and 2nd due to the following experiences. If they separate ingredients it won't be soggy so make sure nothing is forgotten before leaving. So the first time they skimped out too much and didn't include enough of the nacho toppings and that's because I ordered the full portion and it looked like the half and and I've ordered both many times. Also I expect anything to be a smaller portion from anywhere I go because when I go. But in person the portion is noticeably larger and huge especially there. It was lots of chips not much nacho toppings basically. The second time they gave me the wrong order and gave me the panchos which has lettuce, sour cream, chips and pico. I'm not sure if anything else is in it. The 3rd time they did not give me beans or cheese. It includes meat(optional), pico, beans, cheese, green sauce, chips. I ate it anyway right because I was hungry for hours while being light headed due to hunger. But unfortunately it didn't fill me up and I was still hungry with that lightheaded hunger when the 1/2 portion always does. My friend took me yesterday, to have the 1.00 ribeye tacos or tostadas. they were so good, kind of greasy but a 10 from both of us. the ambiance is nice kind of loud but its a bar and grill, people are having fun. restrooms are clean and they even have a mouth wash dispenser for the public. music was awesome. definitely going back and staying longer. thank you. bcg read more

I've been here a few times since I've been in this area for work. The food, especially the breakfast tacos, has been very good. The live bands on the weekends have been quite entertaining. The waitresses in the evening have been excellent. Jackie is probably the best waitress I've had from any establishment over the past month. I'll keep going back. read more

You want a bar, you come here. Great drink selection at affordable prices. Then you need some quality grub this is a one stop shop. I'd put their burger up against any other burger in the valley. I was in town for a contract assignment, sat at the bar and ordered drinks and a meal. The "manager" hovered around me the entire night as if I was going to commit a crime, she never engaged me in conversation or even ask if I wanted a drink. To make matters worse, everytime my bartender would chat with me the manager, would go out of her way to eavesdrop. I get that there is a certain demographic in the Rio Grande Valley but I have never felt more unwanted in any establishment than Bourbon's. The atmosphere is good and fun. Being a native of Louisiana and a frequenter of New Orleans, it does have a similar look and feel to a NO bar and grill. The gumbo was especially good and authentic tasting. Boudin balls, while tasty, did not the texture Im akin to with boudin. The señor dogs were by far the best. All in all, I recommend if you're looking for a place in the valley with a good gumbo. read more

This place seemed cool until my wife worked there. One morning this old lady was arguing over the price of mimosas because they have yet to update the prices on their brunch menu and the manager still wanted her to sell them at $8 when the menu said they were $4 so my wife was put in the middle and they fired her saying she was intoxicated at 11 am. My wife got into the car crying and I have known her for 14 years she was clearly sober. After making her work her entire shift before mothers day then fired her. Now she's out a job all because the manager could not fess up to his mistake robert couldn't take ten minutes to figure out the actual situation so instead told the gm she was intoxicated because he was to lazy and decided to comp the entire food order n couldn't fess up to the gm why he had a big comp. So I went and tried this place out again got there around 8 we got our table and couldn't seem to get waited on even after waving down some of the waitresses so I go on and walk up to the bar and I wave the bartenders down and nothing even tapped the bartender with a stupid man bun and he just ignored me and moved away like if I was bothering him...Just couldn't seem to get any drinks...finally got waited on by a waitress who actually seemed to want to work. I've gone to other places 5 times as packed as them and able to get drinks within 5 minutes. read more

Yes it's a good place to hang out and have fun but don't ever try to reserve a party here. I spent over a month planning my birthday party and checked with them weekly on my VIP reservation. The night of my party, I find that the VIP section had been taken over by somebody else and my reservation had been canceled. I ordered the oyster po-boy and fried pickles. Both were barely warm when they arrived. and soggy. There were fries with the sandwich, again soggy and so salty, that's all I could taste - the salt. Some of the fries looked like they were sweet potato. Nice touch, but they didn't taste any different because of all the salt. the fried pickles were tasty, but soggy. The waiter was super nice, but the bartender (I was sitting at the bar) totally ignored me. There were only 2 other people at the bar and he was engaged in a raucous conversation with them the whole time I was there. He took my order. I paid and tipped him, then he totally ignored me. Don't eat there! If you go, perhaps stick to the drinks - that is, if you can get the bartender's attention in a nearly-empty restaurant. read more

Can't comment on the food but the bar and staff were pretty great. They have a selection that ranges from the kinds of shots you'd order on spring break to way more interesting cocktails that were cool to watch be prepared. IMO it's a great place to stop by for a drink after work, sit at a bar with your own thoughts, or to meet up with friends to pre-drink or have a fun and chill night together in a nice but not-too-pretentious environment. read more

I came here today on St Patricks day and the waitress tells me that they don't have Guinness on tap or bottle. How do you not have Guinness beer on of all days St Paddys Day! So I ordered their special of the day corona light but it did not taste like corona it might have been that they might've used too much green food coloring. Plus their menu was very limited. Went in with my sister to grab a few drinks. It was pretty packed but what got me was the bartender who was rude. I had a song playing but because she didn't like the song she skipped. I asked why she skipped it and she just went straight into pissed off mode and just said she didn't like the song raised her voice and ignored my sister when she wanted another drink. Last Night, my friend took me to this restaurant (my first time). The restaurant was pretty dead, but I did not mind that. They had one waiter and although the guy was nice, it took forever to get the food. I ordered the Jambalaya.I have eaten Jambalaya's before at Pappa Deux and the Bayou Grill. The Jambalaya served to me at Bourbon St. was the nastiest one I have ever eaten. It was bland The rice looked like someone dumped tomato sauce mixed it with cooked rice with mediocre seasonings. I only ate the 4-5 shrimps that were on my plate. I spoke to the waiter and asked for a refund. He comes back and then tells me t hat the manager is "unwilling" to give me a refund because he cannot do anything about how the Jambalaya tasted". I have watched every SINGLE episode of Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares as well as Chef Robert Irvine Restaurant Impossible. At the end of the day, customers can make your business a success as long as YOU know how to run a successful BUSINESS. Now the poor waiter (there was one 1 waiter for the entire night, shocker *sarcastic here*) was doing all the explaining. I said " Look, I know you are just the messenger. You did not cook the food. Do not feel bad. You are not the one that needs to explain to me why you cannot give me a refund, that is your manager's responsibility. I continued "Apparently 13 dollars is too much to refund, but he lost me as a new customer. So, you know what let him keep the 13 dollars. If he wants to run his business to the ground, that's his deal. The poor waiter felt bad and gave me a discount on desert. He said at the end "come again" I smiled and shook my head "no". Moral of the story: if you go to a bar and grill and there are hardly any people eating, take that as a cue that 1) the food sucks, 2) food sucks hardcore. I will never step my foot into that place nor recommend it to anyone whether you want to grab something to eat or drink at their bar. read more

This place is an absolute joke. It's not that the food is bad or they give bad service or that the beer is warm, but it seems like they didn't do any research when they designed the place. They're apparently trying to create some kind of "club" atmosphere by featuring a "live" dj (not fooling anyone) but it's a fail. The place is cleared out by 11:30! This place will never be more than a stopping point for those who make their way downtown. Why would they call it a cantina if they're not going to have live music (actual bands, not just a dj) everynight? Another weird thing about this place; they have board games. I mean, for crying out loud, board games! People go to bars to drink and listen to music, not to play board games! In conclusion, although the food is excellent the ownership seems totally unconcerned about guest experience. There is absolutely no entertainment and the games suck. Nobody wants to play foosball or electronic darts when they're drunk. One more thing; how come the bar is called Bourbon street but there's no gumbo on the menu? read more

Not a great place to hang out. Didn't try the food since it was out of my price range, but the music selection is horrible. All they have on the jukebox is a bunch of pop music. Not really what you want to hear in a bar. They do have cold beer which is good, but to be honest I can drink beer at many other bars, and I mean awesome bars, for less money. I had a shot there and somebody doesn't know what they're doing because they served it to me in a chilled glass. You don't pour liquor into a chilled glass! I drank it but it was nasty. The atmosphere's not very social either. The music in there is so loud you can barely talk to anyone. I did see a lot of games in there so I guess they expect their games to keep customers entertained. read more
