This is a preliminary, but relevant, review. We have a fairly complicated plumbing system - a tankless system and a small preheater. Many plumbing companies do not service these systems - perhaps because of their complexity (I really don't know). What I do know is that when I called Bowers to inquire if they serviced tankless water heaters, Mel spent about 15 minutes on the phone with me - asking about any problems, and explaining potential causes. He was extremely knowledgeable. Now when was the last time you called a plumber and received that kind of attention before even hiring them to do the work? I thought so. I can't tell you how impressed I was with Bowers plumbing. It was a Friday and our hot water heater stopped working. I spoke to a plumber who works for Sears because it was a Kenmore hot water heater. When I describe what happened he told me about this national recall on 600,000+ water heaters some of which were sold by Sears. I went to this website and indeed my hot water heater was one of the ones being recalled. I got in touch with Bowers plumbing who is handling the repair work for these hot water heaters in our area. He said that people are in our situation will be put at the front of the line to get their hot water feeder fixed. I purchased two new toilets from Bowers Plumbing and had them install them. One was great. The master bath toilet was rocking and I knew this was not right. I called and the plumber came over and said he knew there was a problem at installation but went ahead with it. He never told me he knew there was a problem I had to call and question what was wrong. They overcharged me for the toilets and installation, then left me figure it out! No refund! The toilet started to leak all over the bathroom floor. Wow! Quick, responsive, prof and very helpful. I called on a Tuesday afternoon and left a message. I received a call back from Mel Wednesday morning, and by 1pm Dan was here fixing the problem. Our hot water heater needed a new burner assembly as indicated by the flashing light code and was part of a recall, I found out. I had called Boden plumbing first since they're local to Sonoma and they were the helpful ones who alerted me to the recall. I submitted the required info to the recall website and was eventually given a list of authorized plumbers to fix the problem (Boden not among them). The nearest was Prushko plumbing so I called and spoke to Sam. He said he would order the part and call me. A week went by so I called only to get a recording that he was on vacation for another week. I called after his return and was told he was waiting on the part. A week later I called and he said he was having difficulty ordering the part. I then called the manufacturer and ordered the part myself and it arrived the next day. I left a message for Prushko letting him know I had the part and was ready for him to come out and install it. He left me a message that it would be another week before he could come out. That's when I called Bowers, the next closest plumber to Sonoma on the list (and it turns out he lives here in Sonoma). read more

During an extended power shutdown recently, we couldn't get our hot water heater restarted. Mel responded immediately to a phone message even though I'm sure his hands were full with similar clients. This is my long over due review for Mel and Bowers Plumbing. I was up at our cabin in Forestville and our tankless water heater started leaking (okay, gushing) water. The entire floor was flooded! I called a couple of plumbers and was lucky enough to be referred to Mel. Fortunately for me, Mel is THE go-to guy for tankless water heaters. Mel called me back right away but unfortunately he was an hour away and also booked solid for the next couple of weeks. Did that stop him from helping me? No way! He asked me to text him a picture of the problem. I texted him and then he walked me through how to get the leak to stop pouring out water. All in all about a dozen texts were sent and 6 phone calls were made and through Mel's expert guidance, I was able to get the leak down to a super slow drip. He told me what part I needed and I was able to go to the local hardware store and buy the part. Our neighbor was able to replace the part for me later on that afternoon. Mel was extremely kind and patient with my plumbing ignorance. When I asked him where I should send a check he told me not to worry about it. Huh?!?! What?!?! I had taken up at least an hour of his time through phone calls and texts! He told me just to do something nice for someone else. Seriously folks, this happened! But we were headed across the country and had to rely on a referred individual to help figure out the problem, and then, hopefully fix it. Located in No CA, Mel Bowers provided stellar service by becoming our advocate while remedying the situation. He took pictures of the water heater to show where it faltered. He was then able to get the manufacturer to swap it out for an upgraded and brand new tank-less water heater. Did not call. Showed up at our apartment the night before at around 8pm claiming we called them for some sort or leak with our washer. That they had pictures and needed to take a look. Turns out a neighbor in our complex had hired them for a water heater issue and they had the completely wrong address. They did inform us that our water would be shut off from 10am to 11am which was no big deal. They left our water shut off for over 3 hours passed the scheduled time do to some type of claimed valve issue. Massively inconvenient and frustrating. Even though we didnt hire them, if plumbing issues did come up in our household I would look elsewhere just from this experience of incompetence. On the plus side, when I angrily called to ask what the issue was they were quite polite. They called me back the same day, came the next day and fixed the bathroom sink that was clogged (beyond Drano treatments). The drain runs better than it ever has now. While they were here, they offered to checked the other drains in the house for me. They charged me exactly what they quoted me, were quick, efficient, and professional. They left the area cleaner than when they came, making sure to wipe the area down when they were done cleaning out the drain. I had a problem with my new AO Smith water heater which was still under warranty, so I contacted the manufacturer and explained the problem. The heater would emit this loud fog horn noise every time any hot water faucet was turned on. The technical support in Tennessee assigned a reference number and Bowers Plumbing Service as a plumber that was located close to where I live. I contacted Bowers and Mel took my call, explained my problem with water heater and he said he would have a technician out within the hour. Earlier last year A.O. Smith referred us to Mel Bowers for a recall on our water heater. Mel sent Max out and the burner and control valve were replaced under warranty. I was really happy with their friendly service. Over time the water heater developed a problem and the pilot kept going out and we'd sometimes smell gas. I called Mel back and he jumped right on it. I was really pleased with the proactive action that Mel took with A.O. Smith in getting this covered and the burner and control valve again replaced under warranty. Mel also took a proactive stance with PG&E to look at and replace the pressure regulator. Mel took care of everything and I was really happy with his proactive efforts to make sure we nailed the problem, which after several weeks of no problems seems to be resolved. read more

Mel is a stand up guy who loves his profession and has a great attitude! Had him fix my dishwasher line that was leaking and another line that was overflowing over my sink. He did the job thoroughly and even went above the call of duty and checked the rest of the pipes and water lines in the kitchen just as a precaution. Mel is outstanding. Can't thank him enough for installing a faucet in my kitchen 2 times. The first time the faucet dripped lightly when I shut it off. I thought nothing of it but when Mel called me to ask how my faucet was working after install was done I notified Mel about the drip.
