Chase with West Coast Plumbing came to my house to unclog my kitchen sink. He preceded to show me a fake video of a leak under my house and strongly recommended I re-plumb my entire house for 11,000.0O. It would be impossible to do that for that amount. He left without fixing my sink It's unfortunate he feels the need to scam people with unnecessary and fraudulent repairs. This was confirmed with a second inspection with a live video where I could hear my voice talking to the inspector showing all is well under the house. Unfortunately, my experience is eerily similar to those of others. Read the other reviews; you'll see a trend. This is long to lay out the facts, but the tl;dr is -- shop around and read the other reviews here. The story: We had slow and stopped up drains, at which point I reached out to Chase. Very prompt reply, super friendly, great demeanor. He came out, worked on the drain, and indicated it was fixed. Paid the $225 service call fee. Went to take a shower later that morning, and the problem repeated. He came back out. I asked if snaking or jetting the pipes was appropriate, and he said it was not, because of the nature and age of the pipes (a portion cast iron, a portion orangeberg). After camera-ing, he then quoted $4100 to cut out and replace a problem set of pipe. (Notably the quote didn't take into account the amount I already had paid for the initial visit, even though the problem wasn't solved - a theme. I had to haggle for that.) I said okay, and that work was done. In the process, he diagnosed that I had "bellies" in the pipes and some minor root intrusions remaining (these were mild and non-obstructive, per camera inspection), but the only way to fix the issue was $13500 to replace the pipes (of note, he told me (a) there is no way anyone would beat his price, because he's a small shop without overhead, and (b) if I told him *then-and-there* to do the work, he would take $1000 off. I passed, so I could get other estimates. I am glad I did.) The next morning the stopped up drains problem repeated ... again. I pushed further, arguing that it's weird that all these fixes didn't actually solve the problem. He said the only fix was to replace the pipes. I called around for competing quotes (as one does with a 5 figure job). All were top-rated professionals on Yelp. Each commented that snaking the pipe was reasonable and appropriate. One went so far as to say he wouldn't quote the larger job without snaking it first, because otherwise he couldn't truly assess the problem. After hearing this the second time, we went ahead and snaked it, and voila, an enormous clog was removed (see photo). Post-snake, the system functioned as expected. We need to do the larger project. I will not go with West Coast Plumbing for that work (and interestingly Chase's bid was one of the highest). I went back and forth with Chase on what happened, and settled on $3725 ($225 for initial visit + $3500) for the work (vs the $4100). In the process, Chase said he prides himself on integrity and passion for his work, and was greatly offended by accusations of impropriety. I shared that I don't think it's right to charge someone, when you haven't actually fixed the problem, and that what he said could/should not be done (advice I trusted at the time), was commented by 4 other professionals as reasonable, and actually solved the acute issue. I would advise others to read the other reviews and you'll get a trend. I wish I had done that, but live and learn. read more

My pilot light went out and I went through all the online help to do it myself and it didn't work...it was a Saturday, so I needed someone right away because I had guests staying, so I had to call on someone who could help asap. I submitted a project through Yelp and West Coast and their owner, Chase, answered the call and was on top of it. Chase was thorough, knowledgeable, and he explained everything to build trust as experiences like these make you feel like you're being taken advantage of from time to time. I appreciated Chase's demeanor and making sure I felt comfortable with the process. His team came out and completed the job, but a week or so later, my water heater started leaking into the catch pan due to a loose connection. When he was unable to access the the vertical drain pipe at the T with his snake he proposed opening the wall to access the pipe - estimate +$1000. I hired another plumber who, based on his 28 years experience and advanced tools, was able to clear the drain. when I responded to the Yelp callback I was told the price would be $30-225. I was charged $150 for 20 minutes and NO results! I would definitely recommend finding a more experienced plumber. read more

Highly costly rates based on this magical book where they have all these prices that are incredible prices per hour, but then they just smile and say, "But it's in the book." I would suggest you look elsewhere. The family and friends they've talked into pretty five-star reviews, none of them actually talk about price and good value. In every case, work that needs to be done, get three credible quotes, and you'll see how ridiculous this place is once you compare them against competent alternatives. read more

I called West Coast Plumbing last Sunday for one of my rental properties after my tenant said they had no hot water. Chase went out right away and within a couple hours of my call I had an estimate to replace the old leaking 18+ year old water heater. A couple professional looking guys were there Monday morning and replaced the water heater. After checking other pricing Chase gave me a great price and took all the hassle out of this.
