It's the Northern California regional for the National Truck Driving Championships being hosted by FedEx Freight of West Sac. The day starts out OK but it gets very bad. Like, thunderstorms force the event to end early. If that wasn't bad enough, we have to arrive before 7:00 in order to compete, no exceptions. While all of this sounds unrelated to GameDay, I'm getting there. Back to the rant, because I had to get here so early, I expected there to be some type of breakfast -burritos, breakfast sandwiches, something! No, what we got was what you might find at a Super 8 continental breakfast. Fruit, coffee, bearclaws, Granola bars, etc. I'm hungry. Constantly snacking on chips, pastries, coffee, whatever I can get to hold myself over. After I compete, I'm starting to get hungry again. I've seen the truck parked behind our tent for awhile, but since I'm expecting a long day, I don't want to jump the gun and then be starving later. Eventually it's closer enough to lunch time that we get in line. I see a BBQ burger and a vegan burger. BBQ burger sounds good to me, so I order one. They ask me if I want chicken? I didn't know chicken was an option. Yeah why not. About 5 min later, they put a sign out showing that they also have fried chicken. This disappoints a few people in the crowd because they didn't know chicken was an option either. Anyways, along with the burger came fries, and you could choose the regular or garlic fries. My family is a couple hundred miles away,but I still decide to spare whoever is going to be within breathing distance near me and order the regular fries. Here comes the bad part. The wait was probably at least 20 minutes long. It was a LONG wait. Yes I know, I'm at what is basically a large carnival, and the majority of people will be eating at this truck since we had the most participants. But dang. Fortunately, we ran into an old coworker and were able to catch up for most of the wait. But after that, you're just waiting around going the rain doesn't come back. Unfortunately it did, but I already had my food by then. The burger itself was pretty good. It turns out, BBQ and fried chicken go well with each other. After such a long wait, the burger was gone in no time. With the fries, normally I may have struggled to finish everything, but I was very hungry by the time I got my food. I ate everything. I couldn't help but wonder how the standard BBQ burger was. I would not find out on this day since we were only given one food ticket. And besides, there's no way I would be able to eat even half of a burger unless I was given a few hours. In sum, great burger, long wait. read more

Gameday Grill was at my work earlier this week for a special event and I was so excited to try them out again! They catered the same event last year so I was happy to see that they were back this year. They offered black bean burgers, grilled chicken burgers, and regular cheeseburgers. Every order also came with a side of fries. They also offered 4 different ways you can order your burger. I got the black bean burger base with the classic style (tomato, onion, lettuce, pickles) and subbed cheddar cheese for the american. My burger was flavorful, delicious, and very filling. I was a little sad though about my fries because they were way too salty for my liking. The service was good and the staff were pretty nice. They were getting the orders out fairly quickly which was great because it was too cold to be standing outside. I will definitely try their food truck again if I see them around the area! read more

Gameday Grill served up burgers and fries at my work tonight for an event and I was very excited to check them out! They offered black bean burgers, grilled chicken and regular cheeseburgers plus fries. We ordered a regular plain Hamburger for my daughter and I ordered the Grilled Chicken with mushrooms and Swiss cheese. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the grilled chicken was actually 2 massive chicken thighs - I was expecting to see just a boring grilled chicken patty. The chicken thighs weren't dry and were seasoned well. Fries were good too! Service was a bit slower than I was anticipating especially because it was a bit cold out. Staff were mostly just straight to the point and not really all that friendly, but they were busy so it wasn't a big deal. Can't really comment on the ambience since it was a food truck, but I'd probably check them out again if I see them around town! read more

Visited UC Davis Picnic Day and stopped by this food truck after a 40-minute wait in line. I ordered the tri-tip loaded fries ($22) and a burger ($15). Unfortunately, neither lived up to expectations. The fries looked great at first glance--plenty of toppings like cheese, sour cream, jalapeños, and green onions--but once I started eating, I realized it was mostly fries with barely any tri-tip. For $22, I expected a much more generous portion of meat. It felt unbalanced and overpriced for what I got. The burger was also a letdown. It looked well-seared on the outside, but the center of the patty was cold. Not raw, just not hot enough. That really took away from the experience, especially at $15. It gave the impression that it was either undercooked or not heated through properly. The overall atmosphere at the event was great, but for a total of $37, I walked away feeling disappointed. During my service, I was waiting in line with my friend. We had let people go infront of us so we didn't keep people waiting as we had let people in front of us. Though when we left the cashier had verbally assaulted by saying we were weird, and were saying disrespectful and hurtful things, snarky comments were shared of us from the cashier to the cook. We are minors and they are full adults, as for food it was bad the patty was burnt. I do not recommend buying, over charged food and bad customer service. read more

I heard there brick and mortar place closed and that is super sad. I would follow this truck on the street. If I see it on the street I will go to it again, I kind of want to try the tri tip fries now. The truck is very bright and decorated and you can really see it from a distance. i saw some comments about prices. if your going to eat out expect to pay the extra, nothing is cheap. tell me something that is cheap. A Mocha costs 7 dollars, now people. i don't think the prices were unreasonable. for 3 people. we paid 55 dollars, for hamburgers and French fries. The habit charged me 72. 4 people eating at IHOP is 100 for breakfast. So look, if you're going to complain, about a business people, complain about the food, not about the prices, because you did it to yourselfs. Also If there is 10 people, in front you're going to wait, they are not genies or magicians. Just saying. It's kind of like the people who complain about the police pulling you over going 25 over the speed limit.
