Had a fabulous meal here that started with happy hour appetizers and ended with entrees and espresso martinis. There's live music here most, if not all, nights. Went with two friends and we were here for hours - really enjoyed ourselves. Great atmosphere and food.

Bowman's Tavern has a cozy vibe for a cold day. On a Saturday afternoon, the bar was full, and the atmosphere still managed to be cozy. My husband ordered wings, which were pretty average. My turkey and cranberry sandwich was pretty good. The bar service was a bit slow, but to be fair, it seemed like there was only one person servicing the bar and restaurant area. Overall, I would probably go with 3.5 stars if that was an option.

We've been going to Bowman's Tavern for many years because it's halfway between where my parents live and where I live. I've never understood why they have valet parking. We've only been at lunchtime so maybe it's more convenient for dinner time. I would prefer no valet parking. There's a parking lot very close to the restaurant so it doesn't seem necessary. Beth was our server. She was friendly and helpful. We had the Bowman's Burger, cheese steak, and sliced roast beef sandwich. The sliced roast beef sandwich had the best bread. For dessert, we had the brownie as well as churros which were on the special menu for today. Everything was delicious.

    Taco Tuesday Menu

It has been a few years since we ate at Bowman's Tavern, and we decided to have Happy Hour here tonight. It also happened to be Taco Tuesday. ----- FOOD (4/5) Roast Pork Sandwich (3/5 ) -- We shared a pork sandwich which was pulled pork on a long roll with broccoli rabe, roasted hot peppers, and melted provolone.  The pork was braised rather than roasted, the broccoli rabe was under cooked with tough stems, and there was too much provolone for the amount of pork. ($17) Onion Rings (4/5) -- We were offered onion rings as one of the sides with the Pork Sandwich ... but not told there would be a $3 uplift. Fish & Chips (4/5) -- Two large Altantic cod fillets with fries and cole slaw. ($26) Tacos (3/5) -- The soft tacos ordered were Al Pastor and Carne Asada. There was a good amount of meat in each taco, but they lacked flavor and spice. ($8 per pair) ----- SERVICE (3/5) The restaurant was very busy, including a 17-person in the dining room, and understaffed.  Our server was also tending the bar.  Twice we had to chase her down. ----- DRINKS (5/5) Drinks from the bar were excellent.  I had the Old Fashioned, and my wife had a Gin Martini, extra dry with olives.  Both great.  Others had Cosmopolitans and IPAs. ---- AMBIANCE (4/5) I really like the dark wood, pub-like interior.  Tables in the bar area are hi-boys; there are standard tables in the dining room. The bar area was loud. A nice touch was live music.

The building is very historic with a small and lively bar and a narrow winding staircase to get to the quaint second floor area where we dined. Most of the tables had a sofa seating option and some eclectic groupings of chairs. Our server was friendly and efficient. We planned to begin our meal with the grilled octopus (that had an interesting preparation including broccoli rabe and raisins) but they were out of the octopus. We pivoted to the fennel salad which included shaved cheese, celery, pine nuts and a zesty lemon dressing. We'll try the octopus next time but we were very pleased with the salad. For our entrees we enjoyed the grilled scallops and the sea bass. Both were delicious. Highly recommend The Salt House.

Our server was friendly, outgoing, helpful, and responsive. There is a generous, tasty bread basket to welcome you. For appetizers we got the calamari and the crispy brussel sprouts - both were excellent and our table loved them. Entrees ranged from the Halibut & Shrimp with Mashed Cauliflower (the clear winner of the night), the Pork Chop special (which was fine, not extraordinary), the Steak (which was good), and the Crispy Eggplant (which was a generous portion and tasty). The sides of loaded baked potatoes and broccoli were ample and good. We shared a dessert which was the homemade mint ice cream cake which was delicious. For the birthday celebration, they literally brought out an "adult pup cup" - dollop of whipped cream in a champagne flute with a sparkler. Based on the prices of the food and overall atmosphere, this was a big missed opportunity for customer delight. Every other place comparable that we've been to (all over the country for that matter) would have had an actual dessert (maybe small sized) to give to the birthday guest. We had a good laugh about it. The menu would compel us to come back, but not for a special celebration.

My wife and I were recently in these neck of the woods and we stopped in here for a little bit, with some solid suds results. You see, my wife doesn't partake in the brews (Invertase did have a root beer available, just for those curious), so this was solely a stop for me and something I wanted to do quickly. Luckily, despite the crowdedness of the place, Invertase had a few spots by the end of their bar area that we were able to grab while I sipped on a flight of four brews. Before diving further into those beer options, I'll say Invertase definitely had its fill of people on a Friday night, but that makes sense being the only place really in the area that was making its own beer. The interior seemed clean and had that "brewery feel", especially with the acoustic guitar man playing at the front. The people behind the bar were also pretty friendly which is always nice and not necessarily a given everywhere you go. Stuck on what to get to round out my flight, I was given a suggestion or two that helped complete things (and it was a mighty fine suggestion I might add!). Now jumping into those brews and what was available, Invertase definitely checks many boxes with a nice mixture of classic and eclectic options. Case in point: the Snowscape winter warmer was on point, while the Notes From Mom PB&J sour was...interesting. I can't say I hated it, though I'm not sure I could see myself drinking a full pint. Other brews looked and sounded good as well with a total of 10 options available. Not too shabby. Overall, Invertase Brewing definitely has a strong hold on the beer scene in this area (easy when they're the only guys in town!). They show some creativity in options while also delivering some classic beer style choices as well. Though nothing necessarily jumped out at me as worthy of cans (they had some available), I'd still venture to say I'd gladly return in the future if I find myself in these parts again. Well, I may be pigeonholed here anyway if they're still the only brewery in Lambertville!

Founded in 2019 by a family trio: son Stephen (who holds a degree in mechanical engineering), father Steve (a biochemist) and mother Karen (a microbiologist). The word 'invertase' is the name of the enzyme used to break down sucrose. Together they bring a scientist's precision to the brewing process. My girlfriend and I stopped in on a Saturday afternoon in March after wandering around Lambertville for a bit. The taproom has a nice sized parking lot. The taproom itself was about a third full, rather plainly decorated, and there was a guy off to the side selling hotdogs and walking nachos. My girlfriend and I each tried a flight from a taplist of ten different beers. The flights were served in red plastic baskets, the kind you would get at a fast food place, which was certainly an interesting choice.... Most of what we tried was decent, nothing exciting, but the real standout to me was the Winter Dreamz. 8% winter warmer with all the right notes of vanilla, lactose, orange, cinnamon. Definitely unlike any other winter ale I've ever had - in a good way. Our two flights, after tax and tip, came to $36.06, which is definitely on the higher side for flights at NJ breweries. Overall a nice place with nice people and good beer, one that we would return to.

We shared the burger and the carbonara. Both dishes were underwhelming, especially given the expectations we had for this spot. The burger was on the bland side, and the carbonara was made with store‑bought noodles, which took away from the dish. It's a place that feels special and welcoming, great for a night out with friends or a date. We started strong with the appetizers--the meatballs and burrata were excellent. Flavorful, well-prepared, and a great way to kick off the meal. Unfortunately, things took a nosedive when we got to the main course. My friend ordered the lasagna, and his verdict was harsh but honest: it reminded him of high school cafeteria food. I ordered the New York strip steak, and I can only describe it as awful--tough, flavorless, and poorly presented (photo attached if you're reading this somewhere that allows images). Thankfully, dessert helped redeem the experience. Everything we tried was delicious, beautifully done, and left a great final impression. Bottom line: Taverna 54 is worth visiting for its appetizers, drinks, and desserts. Skip the mains. With such a beautiful setting and solid service, it's a shame the entrees don't live up to the rest of the experience.
