We stayed at the Gage Mansion this past weekend for a murder mystery event. While we had some free time, we decided to venture to town to get a bite to eat. We decided to stop at Boxer's Cafe. It was a smaller place, lots of towns people eating and drinking cocktails at the bar, but it was cozy. I ordered the crab and mushroom soup, and the zucchini parm open faced sandwich, both were incredibly delicious. We wanted to return again later in the weekend, but time did not allow. Boxers Cafe is in the small town of Huntingdon Pa. Boxers is a cool place with a great tap beer selection. Its appearance is like a dive bar. All the food and drinks are sourced from local farms and company's. The food is made fresh to order. I had a bit and some craft ginger ale. Both were very tasty. The ginger ale was spicy and left a peppery after taste. My wife had a burger and fries and said they were good. My daughter had the buffalo chicken sandwich. She said it was good. We've eaten at Boxer's several times during the past two years. The only reason we return is twofold: the food and beer are tasty and they are the only solid restaurant in close proximity to our cabin. The service is bad - the bartender and servers are rude. It appears that they are not interested in serving non-local patrons. To be honest, I hate patronizing the establishment, but we probably will continue to return. It's a shame that people find it so difficult to be nice - it's truthfully not that hard. read more

Food wasn't very good. Had a cheese steak which was basically steakums. Wife got a dry sandwich as for the fries. 1 batch was overcooked and hard the other order wasn't even brought out as they forgot it.. but to make it worse the waitress/possible owner had a HUGE attitude problem. Asked about their off brand beers(never had the items they have on tap, was asked which was like blue moon) and she acted so put out that she made us wait while she went and checked on another table. 10minutes later she came back and still couldn't answer the question. Asked the bar tender and he was also unable to tell us anything.. after all that hassle, 2 sandwiches and 2 beers cost $47........will not be returning. read more

We have visited Boxer's several times but likely not to revisit after multiple subpar visits. Last visit we tried to get a large group in one evening after a sports event. We tried to get tables that didn't have to be together and the hostess/server was very rude. Our group actually had a conversation deciding if she was being rude or just incredibly dumb. Rude was the verdict. The food is decent, but the decor is like a liberal Hoss's with posters and other lefty messaging on the walls and in the windows with some Boxer tchotchke thrown in to make you overlook the dinginess of the place. I always like dives with character but a dive with rude characters is no place I want patronize. read more

Boxer's is great. It's not hard to understand how many followers they have from all over the country. People that have only been there once love it, and people that are able to return again and again. Try Paula's carrot cake. You won't be sorry. It has the texture and consistency of zucchini bread, I think, and the icing is somewhat tangy, whipped thin, and sticky. Very good. If not the best I've had. They have a verstile menu. I've had the veggie hoagie and loved it. I was genuinely surprised at how good it was. They also have local bands and artists play live music frequently. read more

Stopped for dinner after a hike. The place feels like your typical bar/restaurant mix. It is definitely inviting. The food was reasonably priced...actually good price considering how they try to use local produce. I got the jalapeño popper, which was ok. Then I moved on to the blue cheese sandwich, which is one of the many many vegetarian options. It has a surprisingly good vegetarian selection for a place like this. The sandwich was good, and has decent flavor (could use a pinch more salt). Portion size is big. The menu is pretty large and there are definitely a lot of tempting choices. I would definitely go back there again to try different items...maybe their soup, which seems to be very popular. The beer selection on tap is good and the place seems to get packed easily. My happy place! Boxers has an amazing beer selection and delicious food! They've been socially conscious restauranteurs since before it was "trendy," because it's what they believe in. Tuesday night is wing night, so get there before 7:30 if you want something OTHER than wings. If you're interested in wings, then consider trying honey garlic! yum! Mexican Chicken is my standard (like a chicken cheese steak with yummy mexican spices), but everything on the menu is wonderful. MANY vegetarian sources (baked black bean burger....YUM!) Update, I was back again last week and had some Super Delicious homemade Pie. I still give it 4 stars, because service time was a bit lenthy. Drinks were good and the wings were very good. Loved this place! Food was awesome - especially the Turkey Reuben sandwich! The Cajun chicken sandwich was a little salty but that's to be expected. Extra points to them for using local, organic products and having Woodchuck cider on tap. It was pretty crowded so we ate at the bar but the bartender was friendly and we had a great time. We sat at the bar and had a lot of good food. It was a friendly atmosphere with a good but small beer selection. We had the stuffed mushrooms, deep-fried mushrooms, french fries, fried clams, and bacon-wrapped shrimp. Everyone loved the food and we had a great time. Their fresh cut fries are absolutely delicious! And, making my day, they also had malt vinegar for the fries! A true pub delight. Four of us stopped here for a mid afternoon beer on a Fall Friday afternoon. I found Boxer's to be a cool hangout type of place, bohemian would be a good description. We sat at the bar and chose from their tap beers. The bartender was very accommodating, especially to my wife who has to try one or two before she settles. The bartender was knowledgeable about all the beers on tap. We ended up ordering some snacks; potstickers and artichoke dip. They were both really good, especially the potstickers. I could have eaten way more. We hung out there for almost two hours, chatting with the bartender. I liked the vibe on this Friday afternoon. Long time patron of Boxers. Usually able to shake off certain personalities working there but, ugh..."Kennedy". Please pull her from "wing night"! Girl can't handle herself or her mouth. SHOCKED Tony keeps her around. They say you can order off the menu until 7:30, before it goes to strictly wings but, depending on who's there, this is an aggravating challenge. Walked in at 6:55, Kennedy (behind bar) says, how many? I say, "2"! Kennedy, "yeah, that's not gonna happen"...AND that's how it began. Experienced with this little gathering place, I ignored her and continued looking for a spot. Unfortunately, several newcomers walked in [while I was waiting] and retreated after her same asinine comment. I watched quite a few turn around and leave that night because of her mouth. Within minutes after sitting, seats opened up. 2 at the bar, a 3 top and a 4 top. "9"available seats within 10-15min. and all those customers turned away by Kennedy. This happening all before 7:30. BTW, we had our drinks, a large fresh cut fry and a dozen wings by 7:45. This has not been our first experience with this girl, maybe not even the worst, but, her behavior continues to be so mind blowing, I had to review. read more

I was born in Huntingdon and lived in Mt Union til I was 10 but never knew til I happened upon Boxer's on my way to Raystown that it even existed. I just popped in there for directions on our way to the lake when the smell alone tempted me into staying for lunch. They have a great beer selection... and with Pa being a dry state, we needed a couple brewskies before heading to the lake. But what I was most impressed and surprised by was all the vegetarian choices. This is so unusual for this area... but I so welcomed it because I am a vegetarian and my children are for the most part as well. This will be on my regular stops from now on when I am back home in Pa during the summer. read more

Went back this week with some friends and ordered my favorite meal (fries with spicy seasoning and turkey reuben) and it was just as good as I remembered. I have been eating at this Cafe for many years. It is one of my favorite places to dine! The atmosphere is conducive to a nice quiet lunch or dinner. The menu is very extensive and also has items on its menu for those who are vegans. The food is very delicious and will leave you wanting more! Homemade desserts -pies and cakes- are a must to top off this dining experience. Try this cafe and you will NOT be disappointed! You can even have a brew with your meal if you so choose. This is a casual local bar. If it was in a big city, they would call it a gastropub. The food is good but could be better. The main draw here is the beer. They have a wonderful beer selection. Our server knew quite a bit about beer and their selection. He recommended a wonderful German beer. The menu is eclectic, Asian apps, Mexican choices, the ever present burgers, Philly cheesesteak and more. As a Philly guy, I never order a cheesesteak away from home. That night I did. The meat was good, the roll was an Amoroso. Only one complaint, double the amount of meat. Eating a Philly cheesesteak is an art trying to keep the meat and onions from falling out of the roll. Not here. The meat was tucked away in this big roll, secure as a baby. A nice place. We enjoyed the music selection as well. read more
