I went a couple months ago to get my wife some danishes after she had our first child to brighten her day a little. The selection they offered was very good. I got a couple of each and some donuts which were good also. They are a hidden gem in the side of a gas station, but definitely deserve the love. A must try for sure. read more

It's nothing to look at; it's a part of a strip mall connected to a gas station. However, the baked goods they're churning out inside are to die for. This is where I go when I want a sweet treat to bust my diet. They have doughnuts, cookies, danishes, cinnamon rolls, and other sweet treats. The doughnuts are huge, luscious, and decadently topped. I happened along this place last year and return about every 4-6 weeks just to pick up chocolate eclairs and cream puffs. I live over half an hour away but it's well worth the drive. My daughter really enjoys their Cannonball cookies. I haven't had their donuts or cookies but their alligator pastries are quite good. If you don't see the eclairs or puffs in the case, it's because they're in the cooler by the door, just order and they will happily get them for you. read more

Love this bakery. Found it by chance driving from Greenwood back to the City and was happily surprised. The outside did not look too great but the pastries were delicious. We ordered the cream puffs and they were huge, full of cream and yummy. It is out of the way for me but I will go back. The cream puffs were that good. read more

Great bakery. When I get a donut craving this is where I go. Little local spot at Hanna and 31. Any U of I students and professors should really be getting these on a regular basis if they don't already. They have a good selection of both cake and yeast donuts, both of which are awesome. Their French Cruller is especially fantastic. I think they are cash only, but I'm not 100% on that. I recently changed my route of travel to work and now pass Boyden's Bakery. After noticing their sign and seeing the amount of traffic in the parking lot, I decided to stop to buy a dozen donuts to bring into work. Boyden's has charm only seen from family owned bakeries with long term roots. As other reviewers stated, it is on par with Long's Bakery as far as quality however it is a much smaller footprint. Smaller is not necessarily a disadvantage however almost every donut aficionado has heard of Long's. Outside of the old Indy Southside, Boyden's just doesn't have the name recognition. It is quite possible that after a few more trips this may become my "go to" place for a donut fix. read more

Boyden's is a treasure trove of sugary goodness! This may be considered a crime, but I don't particularly care for doughnuts. However, Boyden's is my exception. Their simple glazed yeast doughnut is heavenly! It's fluffy and never greasy, only yeasty. They have tasty seasonal iced sugar cookies as well which are delightful aesthetically. I always pick-up a box before I go see my nieces and co. They also have a crazy cookie called the "Cannon Ball." One can obtain this delightful object with chocolate or white icing. Personally, I have never strayed from the chocolate icing. It's kind of like an 'everything but the kitchen sink' type of cookie with an oatmeal cookie/oatmeal cream pie flavor profile going for it. But alas, I cannot. :( I've had cake from here several times as my mother-in-law loves it and orders from there for birthdays, showers, etc. I've always liked it. So, when it came time to order a cake for my son's 1st birthday party, I decided to go with Boyden's. Stopped by on a Sunday morning after church about a month before I needed it to get my order for the two cakes (one for him to smash into) initiated. They were friendly enough and talked with me about what I had in mind but advised that the owner would be the one to discuss the finer details with me and tell me exactly how they could decorate it to go along with the party's Noah's Ark theme. So I left my contact info with them and waited on her to contact me. I also emailed her a picture of the invitation for the party to give an idea of the theme. I never heard from her, so I called them back. She wasn't available to speak with so I left a message indicating that I'd like to talk with her about the cake and I got a. Still never heard from her. I also sent a separate email to the girl I spoke with on the phone. Never had a response to that either. I eventually gave up and cancelled the order and procured my cakes elsewhere. Agree with all the positive comments...great variety and quality of baked goods, vintage shop, and wonderful staff. The amazing thing is that no one has mentioned the BEST eclairs I have ever tasted. I have tried some other highly acclaimed bakeries throughout central Indiana and not a one can compare. One came close with the custard filling, but the combination of the pastry, filling, and chocolate icing are all 5-star quality. It is wonderful to see them still serving high-quality baked items, when so many small family-owned businesses have closed their doors. This is my doughnut place. Love the small family charm, and pastries are amazing! I love their yeast doughnuts! They are light and fluffy with a hint of cinnamon in the glaze. The glaze is thin and gives the right amount of sweetness to the dough without overpowering it like some places. Their noodles are great for making chicken & noodles or other comfort food type dishes. Great Amish style, so a nice sturdy noodle, without being so thick as what Reams or other supermarket brands are. Service has always been friendly! I visited the bakery for the first time in hopes of ordering a cake and asked if I could see a book of what they can do. They opened a book of pictures that were old, faded and looked like they were made 20+years ago. They offered for me to speak with the baker. When she came out I showed her a couple pictures I had on my phone of ideas. Before I could even swipe to the second picture she just kept repeating, "No. No. No." She said those were fondant and it would raise the price. I told her that would be fine. She then said, "No one will like it. No." At that point I left the bakery. I can accept the fact they can't or won't do what I want but to be so rude as to immediately yell, no, over and over at me when I'm simply asking was unprofessional. My daughters formal wedding was yesterday, in the statehouse downtown was so beautiful until the cake arrived. The cake was so ugly the guest were shocked !!!! I cried for her, what an embarrassment..The cake I ordered and even provided a picture of was not the cake that was delivered ..The cake delivered looked as if a 10 year old made it. I paid $400.00 for this God awful thing ..IT"S A WEDDING !!! One of the most important part's of the celebration is the CAKE!!!! Shame on you !!!! This was a day that will one happen once.. . If that wasn't bad enough the cake leaned forwarded and almost fall to the floor we had to do the cake before we wanted to because we were afraid the whole cake was going to fall over. There were 150 guest ..None will ever use Boydens bakery for a wedding or Special event. What also gets me is 5 years ago Boyden's messed up my our other daughters wedding cake no one would eat the large bottom layer they put the wrong filling in the cake and it tasted nasty. But I thought okay mistake lets try again I like to give to small business..Now I know exactly why after so many years in business you have stayed as small as you are. You had a chance yesterday to gain more customers. A few of the guest at the wedding are with Indy event planning..They said, they will never use Boyden's they felt so sorry for my daughter. Bless her heart she didn't even want to stand by the cake let alone have a picture taken, She was a trooper and did the whole cut the cake thing fast so the caterer could cut the HIDEOUS thing up, so she didn't have to look at it ever again. read more
