Had a large 3' diameter 40'+ tall tree removed by Mike Boyd Tree Service. Estimate was very reasonable. Tree was overhanging our home and trunk was only a few inches from the outside wall. They brought the tree down safely with no damage to our property. They put down sheets of 1" plywood to protect our asphalt driveway from falling limbs. They did a great job of grinding the stump as close to the house as they dared. They hauled everything away and left our property as clean as when they arrived. We called Mike at Boyd's Tree service on a Saturday and shared with him that we had a limb that looked like it was about to fall & had a severe crack in it. I had Boyd's trim three trees - two elm and a sycamore, each about 50 years old. They did a fine job with the elm trees and cleanup after their work, but I am horrified by what they did to the sycamore. They took a spreading shade tree that kept the house and yard cool in the summer, but needed a little trimming to get small branches off the roof, and instead cut off almost all the lower big limbs, some a foot in diameter. And so what was once a wonderful shade tree is now a parking-lot tree with all of the limbs within ten feet of the ground gone. Branches my kids used to climb into are now stacked on the ground in short pieces. And this major surgery they did without even asking "are you sure this is what you want done?" A few hours with the chain saws and the damage was done. Clearly there are serious communications problems with this gang, and I wish I'd never heard of them. They did damage to a great old tree that can never be repaired. If you decide to gamble with them then make sure you watch them, because what you tell the boss obviously isn't always communicated to the crew. read more

Boyd Tree service came to my house to just cut a tree down, cut limbs off, no clean up, we were going to use all of the tree, limbs for firewood & the 8' trunk of the tree, my son is a wood worker & wanted the base of the whole tree to mill it into lumber himself. Mike's 2 guys he sent out were very polite, did exactly as I asked, and were VERY safe & professional, their rope work to climb the tree & safely lower cut limbs to the ground were very astounding & fun to watch. As I told Mike, I use to work for the U.S. Forest Service fighting forest fires for over 20 years, I fell over hundreds of trees but never near homes, usually after a fire or during to make clearings, his men's skills surpassed mine a hundred times over! Mike is such a nice guy. He didn't just give me the estimate of the trees that I requested. He also pointed out an apple tree which is 80% dead due to termites. The price he gave is very reasonable. On the service day, his crew showed up on time and working very efficiently and courteous. two of trees are very close to the fence. When they remove stump, they used extra caution to not touch the fence. There are some apples on the branches, crew picked all the apples and save them in the basket for me before discard the branches. Wow, great job and a reasonable price. I had a huge tree that needed to be removed. I recently received a notice from the city of San Jose to remove and replace the tree on the park strip. I called four tree services on the list provided by the city, they all promised to send me a quote within a week but I did not received any quote after two weeks with follow up called. At the same time, I called Boyd's Tree Service on Friday afternoon, Kathy took down the information and promised that I would receive the quote by Tuesday and I did. I also got a quote from a tree service referred by my co-worker. His quote came in way higher than Boyd's Tree Service. I had Boyd's Tree Service removed the tree and stump. They scheduled the work within a week. They did a good job and left the place nice and clean. Today, they are working on trimming a big tree in front of my neighbor's house.
