I took my Audi to Brake Check in San Antonio for a simple oil change, and instead they drained my entire transmission. They made me wait six hours, claimed they fixed it, and still charged me. I asked several times for paperwork confirming their mistake, but they refused. Later, the vice president JUAN lied, saying it was barely drained--even though the technician admitted it fully drained Two days later, during my wedding weekend, my car started jerking, and the check-engine light came on halfway through my drive to Phoenix. I was stranded, stressed, and devastated. I had to book another hotel, rent a car, and pay over $2,000 just to make it through my wedding. Their negligence, dishonesty, and total lack of compassion turned one of the happiest times of my life into a nightmare. Do not trust Brake Check--ever. This brake check is the only place I go to get my brakes fixed and my oil changed..I had some issues with my car where it was making some noise when I would brake and it was very frustrating for me..I took in my car and with in an hour the guys there fixed the noise making me the happiest person ..I also had my oil changed and then my next oil change was 1/2 off. In 16 years of driving I've never taken my car somewhere and left with it in worst condition. It was jerking on the highway when it would shift gears and the check engine light was on. They tried to tell me I needed x, y & z done to my car. Well why wasn't I having any of these issues before I brought it to your shop? I just went in for a $40 oil change and had to provide my address, my phone number, my email. They sent me 3 emails while my car was being worked on. This is invasive & inappropriate. They pressure you for information and they pressure you to spend more than what you came in for. They wanted me to come back in to have my car looked at. When I went for free break inspection. The manager threatened to hold our car there for 3 hours (up of the lift). He said, "because we didn't decide to get service with them." Then when my husband said he was going to call the police, the manager said, "if you call the police, you aren't going to get your car until tomorrow". When the officer got there, he made the manager get us our car down in 15 mins. WARNING! Don't go there unless you decide to pay whatever the ask you for or get a hassle. Our CR-V was showing a lot of the signs of needing new rear brake pads and rotor resurfacing, and I'm glad we took it here. They confirmed the issue in less than 20 minutes, and had all the necessary parts on hand to get me back on the road in less than 2 hours. They convinced us to replace the brake fluid, which meant we paid a little more than had we just gotten the brake pads done, but it was still less than half of what the dealership was asking for the same work. read more

Came here because they were open early (open at 7:30) Place was clean didn't look grungy like most places I've been to. Took no more than 30 mins. Didn't try to upsell me, just told me what I needed to get done. I like the fact that they give a card where you can get the 4th change free even on synthetic oil. Went in trying to get an idea on cost for repairs. I had a general idea of what was to be looked at. Waited like ten minutes for Matt to greet me. Told him the basics but he started upselling anything he could. I understood everything he was trying to sell me on and had no problem with that. Really just needed a few clarifications before we went to prices but seemed like he wanted me to commit to repairs we didn't even know we needed yet. I was ready to do quit a few things here, but his style of sale really bothered me. Also I know it was the day after Labor Day but this close talker should know better than to do so after a night drinking. Felt like I could get drunk of what was coming out of his mouth. Dude was sweating them toxins out BIG time. I'll try another brake check but not this one for sure. read more

I took my truck in for rear brakes, after their inspection they suggested front and rear brakes along with machining all four rotors. About a week after they completed the work I noticed that the front brake pads were not wearing on the rotor correctly. I returned the truck and asked that they check their work because the brakes felt weak and the front pads did not appear to be wearing on the full area of the rotor. They inspected the work and assured that everything was correct and that the brakes just had to be broken in. Fast forward about 2,000 miles...while on vacation I hear a grinding sound coming from my front breaks, I take the truck to a Ford dealership to have the brakes inspected, the inform me that the front brake pads were installed backward when the recent brake job was done. This incorrect installation caused damage to the rotors and pads, both requiring replacement. In summary, it's my opinion that the staff at this location is not qualified to perform the work they advertise. Not at all pleased with the work I paid for. read more

Every time I come in there's an issue!!!! This location has made me cry in the past over their service. I have asked for corporate to call me, and I never received a call. Anyone else ever heard of having to replace brake pads and reface rotors as yearly maintenance. The first time I came back, the brake pad had cracked. This was only a couple of months after they had been replaced. Cried and cried because of stuff from the first visit. So today... I come in, and as usual, they want to add more, I'm like what!!!! ... I explain my history... Guy is like, let's see how we can help, then he's like ooh well the notes say this. When it's convenient, he says he wasn't there so he doesn't know what happened to make things go wrong. When it's not convenient, he says well I can only go by the notes because I wasnt there. If that makes any sense. So, I'm like basically I'm f*d. He's like ooh you want to cuss, leave! I said i didn't say anything to you, i said this is how i feel. Apparently, I can't say how I feel. If I keep coming in, and you all never fix my issue, and you tell me, we understood the issues, tough if you didn't, and I say I feel f*d... I'm not a mechanic. I put my trust in you, and I signed based on how you explain things to me. I don't know brakes, you do. Way to solve the problem by saying we wash our hands of your issues. Bought lifetime brakes and rotors, and now they won't help. If corporate sees this, please call me. I'm sure the person on duty has my information. I really need help fixing this issue with someone who knows customer service and how to fix problems. Customers, please read your receipts and keep them to help you if you have to come back to the shop. Don't just sign based on the words coming out of their mouths. Make sure you understand and ask questions. Read what you sign and keep the copy to back you up. read more

After further investigation on my vehicles, not only is the Hub damaged, but the sway par link and the lower ball joint are shot. What was a $50 something alignment, now turned out to be a $250 complete lower control arm (Ram does not make the ball joint as a replacement. Have to buy entire piece.), $30 sway bar link (complete) and $200 Hub. I really have no words to express how frustrated I am. read more

Overall fairly satisfied. After making a repair on my truck myself it was time for a front end alignment. I did my research. Went to brake check. Price was right, options were explained and the offer for the upsell of an oil change was made. Which i expected. Time frame of the appointment was good and the repair/alignment was done in a timely manner. Now time for the test drive. So, the mechanic says he's going to take the truck around the block. 20 minutes later he calls the shop saying that he's lost. Blamed it on an accident and traffic. 10 minutes later he shows up saying he was sorry and the truck still drifts a little to the left. Well by now, it's after 9, I'm aggravated and i need to get to work. Oh well. I took my truck and left. Truck does drift a little but i am apprehensive as to taking it back or just dealing with it. read more

I arrived, the employees were wonderful, they worked me in immediately, showed me what was wrong with the brakes and didn't try to sell me anything I didn't need. Took my 2007 Tundra there on 7/28 because, being new to San Antonio, I didn't know where else to go. I had taken my truck to an O'Reilly Auto Parts in Indianapolis the day before we left town, and they COMPLETELY screwed up the rotors. Ruben Garcia took me to my truck, showed what had been done incorrectly and what needed to be done to correct the situation. He and the guys took less than 2 hours (on a Sunday) to turn my rotors and drain/refill my brake lines with fluid...at a fair price. read more

I stopped by the Brake Check at 7119 Blanco Rd in San Antonio on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. I was literally holding back tears because my truck was experiencing severe brake problems. The manager- John- Immediately picked up on my emotional state and he was SO sweet! He was kind and helpful, and his staff fixed the truck- which is on it's last leg- within 24 hours. If I could give a lower score I would. I had my brakes serviced on August 4, 2011 at this location and will NEVER recommend anyone to any Brake Check ever again. The staff was courteous enough, but it is the service that has me seeing red. I had previously purchased the ceramic brakes with a lifetime warranty because I "would only have to pay for labor" to replace. I ended up paying $228 to replace the pads and have my rotors resurfaced, because I was told this is what would stop the squealing noise coming from my brakes. When I left I was told that my back rotor was now too thin and IMMEDIATELY needed to be replaced and that my wheels needed Calipher maintenance. Extra work that would total roughly $460. I declined the service at that time due to lack of funds. Within a week my brakes were squealing louder than before, so loudly I could now here them from inside the house when my truck was pulling into the driveway. When I called to question this I was immediately told that it was due to the caliper maintence being needed. When I questioned this I was given some attitude and told "You can bring your car in and we can look at it, but its the caliper maintence". Later that day I got a flat tire, and was dismayed and outraged to find that the key to remove the locking lugnut was bent and no longer functionable. Brake check was the last place to use the key, and conveniently forgot to mention that the key had been bent. I wrote an email to the Brake Check office explaining my experience and disappointment with my service. A man named Brandon called me back and seemed bery sympathetic, but his only remedy was for me to take my truck back to break check and have the Caliper service done because according to him, as well as the tech I spoke to earlier, that was the cause of the squealing. He offered no remedy or compensation for the bent key, or my having to replace all locking lugnuts since the key no longer worked. I instead chose to take my truck to an independent mechanic. After inspection they told me 1. the back rotor was fine and did not need to be replaced, 2. the calipers were fine and did not need to be maintenenced, 3. the squealing was caused by the low quality brake pads put on, and what he assumed was little to no lubricant used. So basically Brake Check wanted to charge me close to five hundread dollars in service that I didn't really need, to fix a problem that I had already paid them to take care of. When I called Brandon back to let him know, he became immediately defensive and refused to admit that I had been done wrong. Please never take your car/truck to Brake Check. Unless you want to pay for services you don't need, or end up paying for an honest mechanic to do the job you already paid Brake Check to undo. read more

I don't know anything about car maintenance besides how to check oil. Because of this reason, i am always very skeptical when going to get work done on my vehicle, but the guys here were nice and actually showed me and explained to me what needed to be fixed. They could've been saying anything and I'm just gonna nod and believe them but they did take time to try. As for my car after the work they did, seems to be working fine (received an oil change, alignment, rotation, wheel balance and new front brake pads replaced). All in all, okay job.
