Cruising down the 101 and bam! I run over an orange Home Depot bucket. The damn thing gets stuck under my truck and I can literally hear the bucket scraping and smell the plastic burning as it starts to melt under the car while I get off the freeway...I pull over and the bucket is jammed so hard between the chassis and the road I can't remove it...I end up driving up a curb so the right side of my truck is on the curb while left side is on the street. Finally pull out the bucket and even I can tell the bucket did damage to something under the truck. Drive to a "chain" place close by and they tell me it's going to cost $1,500 to replace the oil thingamajig...I call Dan next. He tells me come in and let's take a look...yup, it's shot, leaking oil, needs to be replaced BUT Dan replaces for $500 not $1,500. Thanks Dan read more

BEWARE OEM parts have a one year warranty and they are poor quality. Within a year, I had to go back to get my axle replaced. I just tried to get my motor mount rear passenger side replaced, Dan had a temper and told me that he wouldn't serviced it because he had other paying clients to service first. No accountability, reliability and quality. The owner has a poor temper. I told him that motor mounts should be good for 5-7 years not torn apart within a year. He told me hes been in the business since the age of 9 and shouldn't tell him what to do. He advised that I take him to small claims LOL. One of the employees told me that he was hard to work with at times. Best case scenario would be to buy lifetime warranty parts at autozone and pay them for the labor should you decide to do business here. Though I dont advise it. read more

Price seemed ok. now, I need spark plugs and got a quote of $316 when AAMCO is $240!! guy didn't even see if he could match the price. I feel more comfortable going to another shop given these facts. Was completely lost in finding a reliable and honest mechanic to do my brakes - I wanted to go to someone by recommendation because I didn't want to get ripped off and don't have a lot of money to spend, of course. So I asked my neighbors on our city's FB page and got so many comments on this place and a few other in my area. I called around for quotes and this place was the most affordable and came with a lot of recommendations. They were able to take me same day and was done by the time I was off work. They are super friendly and helpful. Felt good about going there. Went in for Brakes and ended up getting additional stuff done, that I knew my car needed but was putting off and felt good about the prices. Not sure what all the negative reviews are about. I had a great experience. First time client and I found this place by Googling. I live in south OC so this place is not close to me. But I will return for future service. I had called and spoken with Luciano, explained what I needed and he gave me a ballpark quote on the phone. When I went for my brakes, he greeted me with a smile and we went over what was needed. I got all 4 brake pads replaced, re-surfaced the rotors and an oilchange all for under 400!. Juan and the other guy that worked on my Infiniti were amazing. I was literally in and out in a little over 1 hour. Amazing. Dan the owner actually checked me out and introduced himself to me and actually gave me his personal cell in case I had a problem. This place is exactly what the world needs.. Avoid this place. I brought my car there for an alignment. They charged me for the job and returned the car to me without the proper adjustments stating that I needed new struts in order for them to do the job. I took their word and had them replace the struts. When they returned the car to me, it had a noticeable vibration and a broken stud on one of the hubs. When I brought the car back to notify them, they told me that the car had a broken stud when I had brought it to them but never notified me until I discovered it on my own. Furthermore, when I tried to schedule a time with the owner to bring the car back, he wasn't there upon my arrival or an hour later when I was told to try back. read more

Wish I could give them less than a one!! Rip off artist! Beware! Took my car and some different wheels to get put on and balanced on my car They quoted me a decent price and started the work. And that's where it went south, and fast. First they told me one of my TPMS sensors was bad and tried to get me to buy new ones. I had extra ones in the car and they told me they couldn't because it was used. I told them to put the old one on, even if it didn't work. And that I would go elsewhere because I know, it just needed programming. The manager there came out and gave me crap about why I would not get new so does on a nice and to stop being cheap. I ended up getting a new one out on elsewhere and when the took it off it had been squeezed by pliers. You could see the grip marks on the sensor. Then they came back out and told me that one of my tires had a nail in it and would need to be repaired. When I asked to see it, the had "already repaired it." They brought out the tire and pointed to a plug that had been in about 2 weeks prior and tried to pass it off as they just did it. I went ahead and paid for it and took it as a lessoned learned. I left and I felt a little shaking in my steering wheel about 40 mph. I immediately took it to another shop where they had to rebalance my wheels! Stay away from this place....SHADY!!!! read more

I'm such an idiot for taking my car back here. I needed new rotors and back brake pads pretty bad though so I thought I would give Dan and his crew another chance. Left pissed as usual. Was quoted an hour...an hour rolls around so I go check on my car and it's still sitting up with no rotors on it so I ask how much longer it will be and he then tells me they don't "ever keep the parts in stock" so they had to have the guy from the parts place deliver them and it would be another 15 minutes. Um what? What kind of brake place doesn't keep products in stock?! So I wait another 10 minutes before asking them to just put my old rotors and brake pads back on and got back to work a half hour late from my lunch with still no new brakes. When I told Dan that I have nothing but problems when I come here and why hasn't he tried to improve his business he said "you should just find another brake place." When I pulled out, I asked his employee "aren't you going to apologize?" he shrugged his shoulders and walked away. Seriously, do NOT bring your car here. They don't keep parts in stock, give inaccurate quotes, have horrible to non-existent customer service, and really could not give two shits about your business. I leave a LOT of Yelp reviews. My reviews are generally pleasant, but 100% of the time, they are honest. Please don't ignore the horrible experiences (several) that I have had here...learn from my stupidity of returning here time and time again only to leave pissed off. read more

I made a huge mistake by ignoring the comments on yelp. I usually ignore the bad reviews hoping I get an opposite experience, NOT HERE, TRUST ME, GO FIND A PLACE WITH GOOD REVIEWS!!! I bought a battery and it did not work at all, I had to came back and I asked him for a replacement and he told me NO. He did not even said why, he just said NO. We got into a serious fight, we had to call the POLICE. After they heard what happened they asked him for a replacement, we had to test 5 different batteries, none of them were working. DON'T GO TO THIS PLACE, you will get the worst customer service. PLEASE DO NOT COME HERE!!!! read more

This review borders 5 stars, so I just rounded up. Excellent service, and the owner is so knowledgeable. Tell him EVERYTHING you know about your service history, so he can help trim your costs without being neglectful. (the owner had 8 years as the service manager at BMW) In my case, I had just gotten my car's 30k service done, and it was due for its 5k maintenence. TOyota told me that I had to pay about 80$ for my tires to be rotated, tire pressure checked, oil changed, and brakes "examined and cleaned." Well, I have a warantee from my tire place, so I didn't need anything with the tires done, and told Toyota that. So they quoted me $35 for my oil change. Considering how they made it sound so important to "clean my brakes,"I was curious of if it was necessary. Thus, I called Brake Depot, and talked to the owner, who said he didn't think it was necessary as I just gotten my 30k. I brought my car in, and got my oil changed for 22$ (after taxes). The owner also said he took a peek at my brakes, which did not have any problems nor need "cleaning." The waiting area is janky, okay..but, I would take janky and non-ripoff over stylish and huge rip-off any day. PS: It is worth mentioning that I only found brake depot after 3 separate body shops recommended it. Since my car is newer that 2008, one of the body shops told me that it needed a different kind of motor oil and they didn't have it. I asked for a recommendation, and the guy said to try Brake Depot as no one could beat their prices or management. Win! Okay.. PPS: watch out when you pull out of the parking lot, because it is on a busy street, and there is not much of a driveway. read more

VERY UNPROFFECINAL! Bought all four tires here, thinking they would last. One was patched up! When I realized it was and went back to ask for someone to exchange it, the owner came out who had a "idgaf" attuitde and I mentioned it to him and he said he wasnt responisble! Then I mentioned that it was illegal for them to sale me a patched up tire! And just because they were closing in 5 min he wanted me to return the next day for the fix. I had to call AAA to tow me home. (AAA said its the worst place to go to because of their service and the LAME OWNER) Another thing, they cracked my BMW cap that covers the bolts to unscrew the tire! The guy apologized and said to go back any time for a discount. Well...I went back n thats what I got in return. The owner didnt believe it. What a jerk! read more

I usually like to work on my own car. I took my car to Brake Depot because it overheated far from home and I didn't want to deal with two large problems. They did two things, both of which were somehow screwed up, one more than the other. 1. The car had a massive oil leak. I asked them to check that out, and it was the oil pan (cracked). They replaced it for $400 on my ancient Honda. Now, the problem is the next time I went to change my own oil, I discovered the drain bolt had been cross threaded by Brake Depot. This was easily apparent because it was hard to unscrew the drain bolt, and there were metal shavings. Sure enough, the bolt would not properly tighten again. I now need to rethread the pan. 2. My car had been overheating on the 405. Brake Depot concluded the culprit was the heater hose. For this, I was charged $200 some odd dollars -- that's a lot of labor. Not long after the service, abnormally hot engine temperatures continued, and eventually another overheating incident occurred. I discovered I had a blown fuse underhood for the cooling fan. Upon replacing that, I also replaced the thermostat because the fan would not come on. Sure enough, this fixed the problem, and now the cooling fans work properly. A flush of the cooling system also revealed what was essentially dirty water -- hardly a trace of coolant. This is the previous owner's fault. However, I feel like this is something Brake Depot should have checked up on / caught in diagnosing an overheating issue, and they certainly should have discovered the blown fuse for the cooling fan. In grand conclusion, I feel the fact they stripped my oil pan, which is a fact plain and simple, is reason enough not to bring your car here. I have not bothered going back to get them to make the oil pan right, as it is far, and I am not a fan of he said/she said arguments. Just don't bring your car here. read more

I called for a quote on front brakes and they quoted me $160 (pads and rotors). Ask what about just pads and they said $120 but no warranty and if i bring my own pads it would be even less. When I got there the guy said it would be $180. I told them I got a quote for $160 over the phone. The guy said okay and they started the job, then he tells me it would be 10 dollars more to turn the rotors. Since they had my car up already I said okay, so it's 170 even, he said ya. When they finished that ass#### charged me 170.99. Last time I ever go there, I thought I was saving money. Other places that are more reputable where chargeing me the less. read more

I did business with Brakedepot then moved out of the immediate area. I found another mechanic, but he wasn't honest are competent, in the repair of my vehicles. After 3 repairs that I wasn't satisfied with, I contact Dan, the owner of brakedepot, and explained my problem. Not only was he happy to hear from me, he was able to fix my brake problems in the same day. Honesty does not cover the service experience I recieved. This is a gem in a Sea of questionable Auto Repair places in the OC. The owner is VERY knowledgable and lets you know whats wrong with your car/truck. He is very honest and has great service and prices. As mentioned by others the waiting area is a few chairs but , just swing by to the Subway and get a bite to eat while you wait. My favorite part is that the owner shows you whats going on with your vehicle, doesn't hide away and will work with people to get the best service. Further, he will check things or give you a headsup as to things you may need but doesn't push anything. If you ask, he'll let you know whats up. I have gone to this place a few times over the years, and they seemed to be ok, other then the break jobs they have done for me always seem to wear-out rather soon... Oh well. But my last experience with them shed some light on their quality of workmanship and willingness to man-up to fixing their work when it fails. I took my vehicle there to have them check for an oil leak; they told me it was a rear valve cover gasket that was leaking and it would be $400 to repair. It really was $400 I didn't have to spend at the time, but I had them do the work, and was glad to get it done. Days after getting the car back, I would smell burning oil and notice it on the ground after being parked. I took it back a told them about the problem, just days after the repair, and they told me I would need to steam clean the engine before they would look at it. Another mechanic, from a different shop looked at it and told me the leak was coming from the rear valve cover gasket! I told him I had just had that replaced!; which made me a little angry, being I wondered if they had ever really done the work in the first place; because bolts and other items appeared as though they had not been removed? Benifit of the doubt, but I kinda questioned it. I took it back to them again and told them it was coming from the rear valve cover according to another mechanic. They said they were busy, but to come back in a half hour and they would look at it. I came back, and they had pulled another car in the bay instead. I needed to go to work and figured I would deal with it at another time..... To shorten this story, I think they are disingenuous, by taking my money for a repair they did, or didn't do, or if they did, not doing it correctly and kicking the problem down the road thinking I'll go away, and give up. No sir, I don't give up.... I visited just today and requested again they look at the problem, being still another mechanic verified it was leaking from the valve cover. I went today and brought up the issue again, and they told me too much time had passed. I didn't think they would honor anything, but I wanted to give them another opportunity. My next contact will be the Bureau of Automobile Repair on Monday. If anyone has an issue, you can call them and they will listen to you and investigate. I wish I would have contacted them earlier, but I thought they would make good. read more

I'm about to get rid of my bucket-of-bolts but need another month before I can buy a new car. I needed the front tires and the battery replaced to keep it going for another month. I called ahead to make an appointment and they told me that you just come in and wait your turn. I brought coffee and a book and showed up mid-morning on a Sunday. These guys change their statements and quotes 5 times during a 10 minute conversation. Tried to overcharge me as well by $10. They advertised for low prices on Facebook and then pulled a typical bait and switch when I visited them. I bought 4 new tires from them on a special that they advertised with free mount and balance. At the shop they argued that balancing only applies to front tires and the rears don't need to be balanced. I bought all 4 new tires from them and I had to argue that the rears will be on the front axle after the first rotation so they needed to be balanced too. I will take my car now to some other place to get it balanced again as it is driving funny. I won't trust them with my car/cars ever again. read more
