I am never going to Brake Masters for brake repairs again. I recently took my vehicle in to get new front brake pads and rotors and they were quickly installed the same day I made the appointment. After putting roughly 50 miles on my vehicle, my brakes suddenly gave out and after a few pumps of the pedal the front left brake seized and stuck to the disc. I immediately pulled over (luckily I was moving slowly in my neighborhood and not on the highway) and looked under the vehicle to find my front driver side brake line was crimped! I could not believe that the mechanics let me drive away from the shop with my brake line crimped shut! I returned the crimper tool they used to the Flagstaff Brake Masters and explained what happened and got an apology from the manager. I was told he would notify his technician about the mistake. Above being angry and displeased with what occurred, I am scared that their lack of professionalism will one day cause someones brakes to fail completely and cause serious harm to innocent people. For a repair that cost close to $400, I am disgusted and will never take my vehicle back. read more

Truck broke down at 1230, needed the heads pulled off and a gasket repaired. I knew this was coming but I just ignored it til it was impossible. They did the work, plus a major tune up, in five hours for half what AAMCO wanted for the job. 10% off for my military service, and their restroom isn't the worst I've ever been in!!! I would give them ZERO stars if I could. Took 2 vehicles there for oil change and lube. Second vehicle was a high mileage V8. They put syn. oil in it. Created incredible leaks and smoke. 4Qts in a week. Truck was never the same. It now is DOA (rod bearing). After the trouble with 2nd vehicle had a mechanic give a once over on the first vehicle. He asked when I had changed air filter and lubed the suspension. Told him about oil change. He stated there was No Way they had lubed the truck all the perks were covered in build up off dirt and road grime. Also stated that any shop worthy of hanging an auto service sign on the door would have told me to replace air filter. I called the shop trying to get some answers. So I went in with a busted turn signal, dude said he replaced it, and that I needed major electrical work. Went to another shop, turns out that nothing was replaced and the turn signal was still burned out, 25 bucks later, everything is perfect now. Won't be going back. read more

I went in for a routine oil change. When I got back to pick up my car and pay for the oil change, the owner said my car required synthetic oil instead of lower grade oil. Instead of calling me to get my approval, he went ahead and did it and then charged me $53 for a routine oil change. He should have called to make sure I still wanted to proceed with the oil change instead of gouging me after the service was complete. read more

I should have written this review long ago. I have taken my car to Brake Masters for a lot of things over the past 8ish years. They have done small jobs and also jobs that require a total dis- and re- assembly of my engine. I like them because they always allow (and even encourage) me to come back and see what the problem is with my car, and offer a thorough explanation. Their prices are fair and transparent, and they work quickly. Somewhat recently, they had done some front end work for me. One of the parts they used failed. I didn't notice the problem quickly enough and other parts of the car (outside of just their work) were negatively effected. Even though they could have argued with me about whether or not I brought the car back quickly enough after noticing the issue, they chose to just fix the work for free because it was initially the failed part that had caused it. I thought that showed a lot of respect for me as a repeat customer and illustrated a commitment to ownership and accountability of their work. Respectable. I had to run into town while on a trip and noticed that my brakes were making a terrifying sound. It was after closing time, but I noticed that the guys were still around so I swung in. They took the time to test dive my vehicle, then put it up on the lift. Long story short, I was in a tight spot and they could have taken advantage of that, but they didn't. Before you let them do work get a second opinion, I did and it saved me hundreds of dollars on brakes that were not needed. I was told needed back brakes and rotors resurfaced which was a total lie. I have been here a couple of times before because the location is around other interesting businesses I like to visit while I'm waiting for my oil change. Normally it's fine. Get it in, 30 mins later, get out. Unfortunately I'm going to stick with oil changes because my experience with brakes today was unacceptable. I called ahead to ask if my truck would get worked on in the morning. I was told yes, so I brought my truck in mid morning with a plan to run errands in the afternoon. I was told it would take two hours so I came back at one and was told my truck didn't even get on the lift yet. I came back again at 4 and waited until 515 before it was finished. At least the owner gave me a free oil change to apologize for how long it took. Polite folks, seemed to be trying, but just wasn't a good enough experience to go back. read more

NEVER GO TO BREAKMASTERS ON MILTON..spent $400 on Weds when they told me my front breakpads and rotors were completely shot..was also told back break pads had only 15% left, and the drums were completely shot/needed to get it done ASAP for a mere $360 more, but opted just to do the front because of the cost. I then found a friends certified mechanic to do the back breaks for me for a way better deal and found out that Breakmasters COMPLETELY LIED to me and not only did I not need new drums, I did not even need new back break pads which are still at 40-50%. I have already called them to complain as I took pictures as evidence, and feel like they probably also lied to me about needing rotors on the front for an extra $275 that I as the "dumb young female" forked over. So now all I can do is give them a bad review and make sure no one else goes to them and gets ripped off too. read more

I have been to many other mechanical shops and never feel comfortable about what they are telling me let alone know if I am getting ripped off or not. Get what you pay for and this is cheap as they come. I was the last car of the day and they seemed to be hustling through it just to get me out of there. I got a routine oil change and 2 days later my jeep engine was smoking and smelling bad. Under no circumstances should you take your car to Brakemasters on Milton. They wanted to charge me $1200 for a busted head gasket. The second opinion I got was that there was absolutely nothing wrong with my car. I advise caution. read more

(We had no brakes had to be towed) We went home to Phoenix they called me on Monday fix the brakes on my motorhome they did both rear brakes and I only asked them to do the passenger side! Very decent price great job very very friendly and helpful guys! We were able to go back up on Tuesday and get our motorhome and drive safe back down the mountain to Phoenix. If I could give this place negative stars I would. Last June on my way to the Grand Canyon I had brake trouble and needed to take care of it right away though I live in Tucson. They replaced my breaks for about $300 and things seemed fine until this past couple of months (it's January now) when I started to hear a faint strange noise when I put on the breaks, that very recently developed into a lighter version of the same kind of shaking that brought me into Brake Masters in the first place. I found out it was because the rotors had not been turned, cause them to warp and dig grooves. So the $300 + for the ceramic pads went down the drain and I just spent over $400 more getting new pads as well as the warped rotors machined and turned. Not fun. Be careful with these mechanics. read more

Only fair to update here - the owner called me and agreed that the charges were incorrect, and gave a credit against remaining work that needs to be done on the vehicle. He actually offered to do additional work for free, but I didn't think that was warranted. The credit is fine. Took my 10 year old car with 112,000 miles on it to a local dealership because the "Brake Fluid Low" was showing on my console. Took it in on Thursday, on the following Monday I was told that I needed a new rear passenger caliper, new front and rear brakes, that I had rusted rotors and my vehicle was not safe to drive. Estimated cost to fix? Almost $1900.00. I was told it looked like the brakes were the original brakes and they were not safe. I should not drive the vehicle. Told him I bought the car when it had 85000 miles and now 112000 miles 6 years later. I don't drive much. Decided to call Brake Masters, Flagstaff. Told them what I was told over the phone and they estimated a charge of about $600 to do the same thing as the dealership. Both quoting premium brakes. Took it in to have the work completed, was told the brakes on the car were after market, they said Carquest on the brakes (put on by original owner), was told that I had only used about 60% of the brakes so almost half of the brakes were still good and did not need to be replaced and explained that all rotors rust, they are iron and that is not an issue. Sales tactic to get you to buy new? Caliper did need to be replaced and he showed it to me, showed me the dry one and the one covered in oil. Received the 10% online discount and had the work that "needed" to be done with a final bill of $234.73. Where do you think I will be taking my when it is time to have the brakes replaced? read more

I went in for a routine oil and filter change to Brakemasters. A month and a half later my car died and I took the car to another mechanic a few blocks away from Brakemasters. The other mechanic said that all the oil had leaked slowly leaked out of the oil filter that Brakemasters had installed either because it was not put on properly or because the filter Brakemasters had put on was defective. To be fair Brakemasters had said there were engine oil leaks when I visited them. However, the other mechanic said there were no other leaks from the engine oil compartment they could find that would account for the engine oil being completely dry only a month after being filled with oil by Brakemasters, especially considering the low milage the car had been driven since then. The other mechanic also said there were no major oil leaks they could find. My engine was damaged and I had to buy a new car. read more
