My dad used to take our cars to Ascot when I was growing up. It was the only place he trusted. I've been away from flagstaff for a long time, but moved back recently. We were looking for someplace to take my wife's vehicle for general servicing maintenance and thought I'd see how Ascot was these days. I'm pleased to say they are still the neighborhood shop I remember going to with my dad. Prices were reasonable and the staff was friendly. No one tried to sell us on any crazy maintenance "needs". We took our vehicle in for scheduled maintenance. It included an inspection, oil change, cabin filter change, spark plugs replacement, and transmission fluid change. It took almost 8 hours over 2 days. They knew the day before that they would be replacing transmission fluid but ran out, ordered some and waited hours for it to arrive. Expectations were never set. Their excuse on both days is they were helping travelers ahead of us. They had fluid until they didn't (who waits to order when you're completely out versus ordering when you're running low?) If they would have told us when we made the appointment that it would be about 8 hours we would have gone somewhere else. If you're going to prioritize people from out of town over locals with appointments, fine, but let me know when I make the appointment. If they had any respect for locals they would hire an additional mechanic. My wife complained enough for them to give us a 13% discount; otherwise this would be a one-star rating. read more

Communication should be a vital role in this line work. On the phone i asked how much an oil change would be and the manager told me it would cost around $55. When i went to go pick up the car, He told me it should cost over $200 which is absurd considering the same oil at Walmart costs $27. He ended up charging me only $90 but the fact he still tried to scam me is ridiculous. They need to communicate better before up charging. read more

The good folks at Ascot (Trinity took my call, and Darius returned my car to me) looked at the underside of my car after I hit a large hunk of tire retread on I-40 on our way to visit Flagstaff. Nothing was wrong with the car at all - they gave me a 30-point inspection and reported that nothing was amiss from the tire hunk impact - and they wouldn't accept any money. Truly amazing service and I couldn't be happier knowing my car is in perfect working order after the scare on I-40! read more

They found the problem was related to some previous engine work I had done on it When I was traveling out of state. I was treated with the utmost courtesy and respect. They went the extra mile when they discovered that the wrong part had been installed at the previous repair shop that I had gone to. They were able to get that part replaced on warranty from the auto parts store that it was purchased at. when I picked my vehicle up, it was running perfectly. Our road trip from San Diego, CA to our Sedona and Grand Canyon vacation destinations came with an unexpected car problem as we got to our rest stop midway through at Flagstaff on Wednesday afternoon. We are very grateful for Adam at Ascot Automotive who accommodated our request to check the check engine light issue on our Ford Edge even though they were already booked for the week. He listened and empathized with our situation to make it back home safely to California by Friday. When we arrived to Ascot Automotive on Thursday morning, Adam took care of us with great professionalism and honesty. After taking our information, he offered to have one of his staff drive us back to the hotel. He kept us updated from the point of the car diagnostics to the details of parts and labor for the repair. By Thursday afternoon, we agreed to have the repairs done. On Friday morning, our car was ready so he sent Darius to pick us up from our hotel to Ascot to pay and pick up our car. Price wise, the cost of the diagnostic, parts, and labor were very reasonable. Went here a few years back to have a seat belt light that wouldn't go off Diagnosed on one of my BMW's they gave me a laundry list of codes the car had and the mechanic told me the seat belt light was stuck on due to prolonged period of not wearing it... what a load of crock all of the codes the car had were due to a corroded BST battery cable... which I replaced less than a week after their "diagnostics" then I ran BMWs INPA software and cleared the existing faults for them to never return... Im giving them 2 stars instead 1 for not charging me and removed the three for being hasty in their diagnostics and for being so frustrated with me for telling them about BMW service when im a technician myself but I was hundreds of miles from home... I was visiting AZ when a loud sound coming from my car's front end started whenever I drove over 65 mph. Tom at Ascot Automotive drove my car, and informed me the sound was the loose plastic front end that needed to be reattached or replaced. Tom did what he could and placed a few clips on it, and didn't charge me a thing. He assured me it wasn't dangerous to drive the car, and I made it home to San Diego with no problems. Had what we thought was a steering problem on our drive. Arrived in Flagstaff on a Sunday so knew nothing would be open until Monday morning. Couple of places we called said no openings until days or even weeks later but Adam said bring it on by and we'll check it out if you need an alignment. We were visiting Flagstaff and it was our last day. Our battery died- the great people at Wyndham Flagstaff Resort gave us a "jump" as I tried to find someone to replace our battery fast. Was referred to Ascot by another Battery shop who could not do it fast and I am so glad they did. Not only did we get a new battery installed in 1.5 hours,(even during lunch hour) they also topped off our oil as it was low. The service was prompt, professional and they were very nice. I drove into town to do some errands and I needed someone to look at my car. I drive an old sedan from the 1990s so it's up there in years and mileage. I noticed that something was off about my car when I was completing turns and driving in the snow. I called up Ascot to have a look at my car and conduct a wheel alignment. It was around 1:30 in the afternoon so late in the day but they took me in anyways. Ascot did my alignment and they pointed out some lingering issues to look into down the road. They even pointed out where a mouse was nesting under the hood! Will, Chris, and the crew were honest, professional, and timely toward me. They took the time to provide me with service and they provided a thorough inspection of my vehicle. The manager, Will, has high integrity and was especially helpful. --. I have "never" received details about an alignment like this! -- He showed me where the last auto repair I had, missed replacing a part (re: Geico, which was like pulling teeth to get them to even replace the part, that the mechanic said was necessary!) .... and he showed me HOW that was effecting the alignment, which also caused me to wear out another whole set of tires! -- It was not the alignment that was wearing out my tires, but the damaged part in the front end! I popped into this place on a Friday afternoon to inquire about having my VW quoted for service on a (non-pressing) fan blower issue. They didn't have time and are closed on weekends, so recommended bringing the car in sometime next week at 8am when they opened so they could "be sure to fit in my car, since it's just a quote." I let them know I'd be back Wednesday morning at 8am. I suppose all was still fine and dandy when I brought the car in at 7:50am that Wednesday and they let me know it could be a couple hours... with no vehicle at this point, I still agreed to let it be so and walked to hang out at the nearest coffee shop. I arrived back 90 minutes later to check on the status (of a quote, I iterate) and they were "just finishing up." At this point, still NBD. We chatted about the possible issue and price points, and I let them know I am planning to get a second opinion in order to compare prices... after that, they proceeded to invoice me on the spot for $98! I was shocked, as during the conversation with a different man the week before (who was not there this time), I was under the impression that this was a free quote for services. It was obvious that I was taken aback and I asked what the $98 charge was for. A different man from who was helping me stepped in and began to mansplain that there is a "usually always a minimum charge of one-half hour" for services and whatnot. I let them know that I'm happy to pay them for services when repairs/services have been rendered, and that I was never informed that there is a charge to be quoted or have codes ran on a check engine light (that I can have done for free at Autozone or anywhere else). Either way I didn't buy it, and the man finally threw my key at me and condescended, "good luck out in the world." Needless to say, I will not be returning here for services. read more

You know what's ironic? When you drive up from the Valley, and your car breaks, and they have to get the part from the Valley. Had I known, I would have brought it with me. But in spite of their incredibly busy shop, they fit me in to look at my car at least. So I didn't have to stay an extra night to find out I need to leave it anyway, or drive a rental back home prematurely and find out it was an easy fix. I did end up leaving it and will be out a hefty $1000 that I could have used to fix up the bathroom I just tore apart, but I'm comfortable that I'm not getting taken. read more

I've taken my car to Ascot twice now, and they've treated me great. I spoke with Joe both times I took my car in. Ascot doesn't try to run up the bill like at some other places in town. Ascot has very fair prices and is more than willing to give you a complete breakdown for options on any parts you might need. When I needed new brake pads, I told Joe mine were under warranty at AutoZone. Joe took down my info, AND my old brakes pads to AutoZone and got me free brakes pads for my car. I don't know where in AZ or in CA I would have received that type of service. Ascot won't give you the run around you might experience elsewhere. My car was there first thing in the morning, and I got it later that afternoon. Top notch. They did a great job working on my car, and definitely went way above and beyond to help me out. I actually bought a car from Joe that was rebuilt at Ascot, that experience not only reflects on the quality of the work performed by the shop but also on their character. The car was listed on Craigslist and buying a used car always induces a bit of anxiety, but I checked out the shop's Yelp ratings and instantly relaxed knowing the shop has a great reputation (also, they have won Best in Flagstaff every year for around a decade!). I live in Phoenix so I called first to get as many details as possible. Joe was forthcoming about what the car was and also what it wasn't. He carefully detailed all the work he had done and also what else might need attention in the future. I drove up to have a look and the car was everything he said, he did not over hype anything which was a huge relief. He put the car up on a lift so I could look at everything and was very patient while I gave it a good going over. He also mentioned that in order to improve performance he had removed the stock catalytic converter (they don't do emissions testing up in Flag). 90 minutes later I agreed to buy the car. After the deal was done, price set, hands shook, he said he would pay to get a catalytic converter put back on the car. He said he didn't feel right sending me down to Phoenix without one since it would need it to pass emissions testing here. You just don't find that kind of integrity too much any more. It took me 2 days to figure out when I could catch a shuttle back up to Flagstaff and drive the car home, during that time he even fixed a couple more little items on the car. Then he called me 10 days later just to make sure everything was going well. In the past 8 weeks I have had the car checked out at a few different places (the mechanic in Phoenix who readjusted the carburetor so it would run well at this lower altitude, the place I had the oil changed, the muffler shop), all of those places have said that he did right by me. I wish they we here in the Valley, I would take all my cars to them! If you find yourself in need to car service in Flagstaff and don't want the anxiety of wondering if the shop is on the up and up then all you have to do is go to Ascot. My car would start vibrating when accelerating at highway speeds, but would always smooth out whenever I let up off the accelerator. I was passing through Flagstaff, Arizona and looked on Yelp for reviews of auto repair shops. I took my car to Ascot Automotive and they confirmed that the front universal joint was failing and suggested that I replace both u-joints. Made sense to me as both were the originals and over 25 years old. I found the people there to be very courteous, informative, helpful, and competent. I brought in two cars to have some routine maintenance done and to have them checked out in general because each was going to be driven long distances in the near future. It was a perfect opportunity to tell me I needed all kinds of repairs, especially since I know nothing about cars. To their credit, they did nothing of the sort. They discovered some minor problems and repaired them, keeping me informed along the way. When one car emitted a strange odor, I took the car back and they noticed that the oil filter they had installed was defective and leaking. They replaced it and topped off the oil at no cost. When I moved to Flagstaff in 2018 I knew that if I wanted to keep it, I would have to have certain parts of the engine rebuilt. I also knew that I would have to find a repair shop in town that : 1) I could trust, 2) liked working on ford engines, 3) could see how much I value my truck. 4) I would be able to rely on in the future if my truck had an issue, and who knew my engine. So, I took a list of what I thought needed done to the engine to 5 different repair shops in town. When Will greeted me, he was very kind and interested to see what I needed done. After we went over the list of the rebuild I thought i needed, he mentioned that he had worked on & even built engines just like the one in my truck! In fact he has many times, when he would race. He even used to have one himself. Will took a look at my list of items and took the time to give me quote before I brought my truck back. When I decided on Ascot, I brought my truck back and they did a diagnostic. They were quick and honest in finding that most of the items on the list were expensive repairs that I wouldn't need. They instead took the time to point out what the engine would actually need for a rebuild. This was huge. After Will took the time to go over what the rebuild would entail, I was very appreciative to understand more about my truck, and felt better about deciding on Ascott as the shop to do the rebuild. I agreed on the fair price they gave me, and they rebuilt the engine. It only took them a week and when I came to pick it up I was amazed at how quickly they took care of it, how they were as exited as I was, and of course I was amazed at how much better it ran! i was able to meet the person who rebuilt my engine and he showed me a few things. He did an incredible job. New things - un-associated with my engine rebuild - have come up over the past year and Ascott has continued to do quality repairs, while remaining very efficient, honest, and friendly in helping me get back on the road quickly. ASCOT has been doing work on our 2005 Dodge Sprinter, with Mercedes 2.7L turbo diesel & our 2006 SAAB Cabrio, 2.0L Turbo. The service and competence are astounding.....no exaggeration!!! Both vehicles have complex engines and transmissions and even more complex electronics, hard to find parts. Ascot (Joe and Jim and Bryan) have diagnosed correctly electronic problems with computer central processors (CPU) and have either fixed or referred dealer only solutions for these relatively exotic vehicles..... on the SAAB Ascot installed a new CPU and found that only the dealer could program the computer as downloads from SAAB service online to the Ascot flash tool did not work as promised by SAAB Service. Now, here is the amazing part of the SAAB story: Ascot covered the extra cost of towing the car to Phoenix SAAB Service for them to program; got it done and drove the car back to Flagstaff!!!! .... We were driving cross country and found that we leaked a lot of radiator fluid so we had to bring it for repair immediately in Flagstaff AZ. So sorta stressful is an understatement. Stan Ascot and his team took care of my car right away and it wound up being a a rip in one of the radiator plugs and not in need of a new radiator, thank goodness! These mechanics are friendly, timely, and above all, HONEST! Since that repair went so well, we asked them to take a look at some shaking that was occurring with braking in 4th and 5th gear. I've taken my 06 Hummer H3 here several times and was very impressed. This last time however, the electrical computer within the truck is bad and Ascot wasnt able to replace it because they are not able to reprogram the computer. Being the honest and outstanding shop that they are, Jim called and told me everything they did, including putting in a new ignition switch, all the hours they worked on it, etc but couldnt solve the problem. He is not only NOT charging me for his time and parts but is also going to take the truck to the dealer for me. OMG...What an amazing place and what honest kind people.
