First off, they were courteous and professional and seemed to run a good shop. Brought in a vehicle to get a quote for the cv axel to be replaced. They also quoted a wheel alignment "needing to be done" afterward. Price was a bit high and alignment not necessary. They were the only shop I got a quote from that pushed for the alignment. Car drives straight as it is. I ended up doing the job myself and saving $700+ and only .5 hr over the 2hr shop time allotted to fix. Youtube for the win. read more

Incredibly helpful and friendly staff! I stopped into Brakes Plus as I heard what I thought was grinding when I would use my brakes. Not wanting to put it off I dropped off the car for the day and, to my surprise, received a call back that my brakes had 50-60% of life still left. The team shared that there was rust on the front and back that was likely causing the sound. They were confident to send me on my way and because the brake check service is free, I was not charged. I have taken my 3 vehicles to brakes plus for brake service and oil changes for many years and have always been please until my last visit. I'll get to the main point up front: I paid approximately $4,000 for repairs and the shop could not resolve the issues. The car was towed to another shop where it was quickly diagnosed and repaired. My car was in and out the shop on 4 occasions, I was without a car for approximately 4 weeks, was told the car was ready for pick up only to bring it back for excessive stalling twice and had to be towed twice. The car went into the shop originally just for an oil leak, radiator flush and AC service. 1) I get a call-car is ready. The AC was not working. I left it and they fixed the AC. 2) Get a call the car is ready to be picked up. I picked it up and it stalled about 1/2 mile from the shop. Returned to the shop where they replaced the O2 sensor at no cost. 3) Get a call the car is ready to be picked up. I picked it up and it stalled about 1/2 mile from the shop and returned to the shop. 4) At this point instead of continuing to take the car back given the frustrating experience, I tried to drive it home and it died. I got a tow truck and towed it home to figure out my next course of action. Against my better judgement since the car left in worse shape that it came in, I decided to give them one more chance since I paid all this money. 5) They towed it to the shop where they performed diagnostics. I got a call and was told they determined the vehicle had 2 dead cylinders and recommended I take it to the dealer for resolution. I asked if it was drivable and was assured it was safe to drive but they recommended to have it looked at by the dealer. Can anybody guess what happened next? I picked up the vehicle and it could not make it out of the parking lot. This vehicle was not SAFE to drive. 6) The car was towed to another shop where it was quickly diagnosed and repaired. It was a bad catalytic converter. The car ran like it did before going to Brakes Plus. 7) One week later the transmission was making noise. I barely got it back to the shop that repaired the converter. They poured transmission fluid back only to see it run out of a transmission seal. They said the seal was brand new. They said the newly replaced seal was either defective or was not installed properly. The transmission is now locked up and the car is undrivable. Fixing the transmission would be at least another $4,000. I never had any transmission work done and neither did the other shop. I informed Brakes Plus of the situation, and they said their records don't so any of their work could cause the transmission to go bad. I had hoped to resolve this by a discussion with Brakes Plus upper management because I prefer to give a business an opportunity to at least have a discussion before posting. Unfortunately, after approximately 8 weeks I have asked the manger twice to elevate this issue to the district manager and have him contact me. I have not heard from him. Dave B. read more

This is the best place in Castle Rock to get car service done. We have come here for years, as well as other places in town. My biggest take away, time and time again is how honest and fair they are. They not only do quality work, but they are the cheapest option. What stands out is they are so honest that if you bring your car for a service that the dealer says you need, and you really actually don't need it, they tell you instead of taking your money and doing it anyway. There are two Jesse's (both great), but I want to give a special mention to female Jesse. She is clearly passionate about her job in a typically male driven field. She takes time to empower and educate women so they aren't taken advantage of when getting car work done. Her advocacy is inspiring and I appreciate her. She is honest and tells it like it is. She has taken time to educate two of my daughters as well when they brought their cars in and when facing two options, talked to me as a mom and let me know what she would do with her kids car if it were the same circumstances. Lastly, never any issues with work done and everyone in the shop has been friendly. Got a full rear brake job, oil change and alignment on my Expedition Max just yesterday. Really wish there were zero stars. The only redeeming factor at this facility is the owner. I took my car in to get my front brakes replaced, and when I came to pick up my car, the car wouldn't even start. When I opened my engine to check out what was going on, there was a dirty rag left in my engine. Long story short, I got it towed back and forth to brakes plus (owner was nice enough to pay for one trip), and then when I thought I was going to pick up my car from Brakes Plus, suddenly my keys were missing. MY KEYS. I had to get new keys made. I had a perfectly good car before taking it to this place. Never had any sort of issue previously. I basically paid over $600 for my car to be damaged. read more

This is THE best place to go in CR to get your oil changed. I made an appointment at Noon on a Monday and then school was closed due to weather. I thought about cancelling but decided to brave it with two children. The woman working at the front was so kind and helpful. She told me they would rush it in less than an hour since I had an infant. Then she suggested we walk to Burger King and shared they had screens for kids to play on. We walked over, had lunch and then walked back. She then got out coloring sheets and crayons and blew up two balloons for my six year old. She also played peekaboo with my 9 month old. And my car was finished in about 90 min. I honestly dread vehicle maintenance because it seems like everything is twice as much since Covid and employees everywhere are grumpy and disengaged. Approach with extreme caution! The use of "canned" issues based on vehicle type and age are prevalent. The issue with the vehicle: I took the vehicle in to have the rear brakes done, to include the rear wheel cylinders. For the first time in my life I intended to let another mechanic touch my '96 Bronco. The inspection: They drove the truck around the block and conducted some sort of inspection, but their methods are less than optimal. Here is a direct quote from the results: "NOTES : Brake check, C/S needs rear brakes, including wheel cylinders. UPON INSPECTION FOUND THE MASTER CYLINDER IS LEAKING IN TO THE BOOSTER, LEFT REAR WHEEL CYLINDER BLOWN OUT, REPLACE MASTER, BOOSTER, REAR SHOES,D RUMS, CYLINDERS, HARDWARE, AND FLUSH - RECOMMEND AXLE SEALS AT THE SAME TIME FRONT BRAKES AT 7-8MM, FRONT ROTORS VERY GROOVED ALL 4 BALL JOINTS VERY LOOSE, OIL PAN LEAKING OIL, FRONT DIFF LEAKING, RECOMMEND 4X4 FLUID SERVICES." Problem: These results are not quite accurate -- RED FLAG First, let me address the master cylinder, and in this case I'll defend the tech by saying that the indications of a failing master cylinder are there due to the fact that I kept spilling brake fluid over the reservoir as I hastily replaced the leaking fluid. However, a leak down test is required in order to determine the state of the master cylinder. A leak down test cannot be conducted on a vehicle that has a brake fluid leak elsewhere in the system. This test was not performed, nor was the master cylinder removed to confirm that brake fluid was entering the booster. Yet, they insisted that both the master cylinder and the booster needed to be replaced. They were quite persistent. Rear brakes: This is why I was in the shop to begin with, and their recommendations are sound. Front brakes: RED FLAG. Their assessment is accurate, but not complete. Had the inspection been more through they would have noticed that the front passenger caliper is starting to stick and will need replacement soon. This should have been readily noticable when driving the truck, which they did. All 4 Ball Joints: RED FLAG -- This assessment is NOT accurate. The TRW ball joints in this vehcile are not more than 8 months old. Furthermore, the equipment necessary to determine their state was not present during the inspection (I was watching). This inspection is typically done on a multi-post runway lift, with a crowbar, and the tires a raised a couple of inches. Not on a 2 post lift with the tires 5 feet off the ground. Had they actually inspected the front end, they would have noticed the worn axle pivot bushings. Had they come to me with this instead, they would not have appeared sketchy. Oil leaks: This is accurate. This engine has in excess of 300K miles on it, and slight leaks from the front oil seal, oil pan, and rear seal are present. The leaks are not that big, and it is possible that the tech assumed that the front differential was leaking due to the engine oil deposited onto it over time. In actuality, the seals in the front differential are only a couple of years old, as it was rebuilt not that long ago. The upsell: There was much insistence that I have them replace the master cylinder and brake booster (which I know the truck doesn't need). In order to change the master cylinder, booster, and R/R the rear brakes, they quoted my $1750. After I remarked that this was a very high price, they found a mysterious line item for around $1100 that should not have been there -- more sketchy behavior. I had to insist that they put the vehicle back together so I could go on my way before they relented to only repair the items I wanted to address, which were the rear brakes. This brought the ticket price down to around $660, which (all things considered) I thought was reasonable. The work: The tech did good work, and did the work in less time than I expected. New brake drums, shoes, wheel cylinders, and (I assume) the spring hardware in a great time frame. Kudos here. In general: Approach this shop with extreme caution. I believe their inspections to be "less than optimal", and the use of "canned revenue generators" (identified problems that don't really exist) might be commonplace. An actual inspection would have identified legitimate issues they could have offered to remedy. The "mistaken" line item for $1100 did not help to promote a feeling of confidence in this shop's integrity. read more

Came in for a 30 minute brake check. 2.5 hours later they told me brakes were fine but handed me a quote for nearly $2,800.00 in suggested repairs for my Jeep GC that has less than 50k miles. "Brakes are good but we suggest and urgent radiator replacement, shocks & struts, thermostat... ". The next day I went to my Jeep dealership - and they did a multipoint inspection, specifically including all items above and told me all was fine - clean bill of health - and that the list of suggested fixes was complete nonsense. Despite having an appointment, it took them almost 2 hours for a simple oil change with a coupon. I looked at my car about 45 minutes in and saw it up on the lift with all the tires off. I got the hard sell not long after about needed to get a huge list of things fixed, but when I mentioned I wanted to get a second opinion from my own regular mechanic, all of a sudden it wasn't really THAT important, and was told my regular mechanic could probably do it cheaper anyway. I never got the list of the items they said I needed looked at. I had to go back 2 different times in the next few weeks for oil leaks. My car has never leaked oil. Before the second time, I was smelling a strong odor of exhaust while idling as well. Before I took it in, I popped the hood and noticed the oil cap hadn't even been put back on the last time. They miraculously found it just sitting right behind the engine when they went in to check out the problem. Luckily it was just time and not money spent on this one, but after all that, there is no way I could trust them to do any other type of work on my car if so many issues came from just an oil change. read more

Sooo it's been a few weeks since I took in our family suv, but after reading these reviews I felt I needed to let people know these reviews are spot on. I've been taking my vehicles to this particular Brakes Plus for oil changes and alignment for over a year and didn't mind the wait because I thought I was getting a good deal. This last time I left our SUV over night because the brake light and vehicle stability control light were coming on sporadically. They told me that the brakes were shot and the rutters were so worn they would need replaced. I asked why this wasn't caught during the "safety inspections" that are supposed to be included with the oil changes of which I do every 5-7k. I was told oh well they so unevenly worn that maybe we didn't check that side last time. So basically we didn't check your vehicle when we changed the oil the last three times. I took my car to brakes plus for a simple oil change for the published price 26.99 with a $10 coupon for a grand total of $16.99. Well they first said that my car needed 5w20 and that would cost extra over the standard 5 w30. The new total would be $24.99. I showed them the users manual which stated 10W30 and they the stated the new total was $20.99. I asked why is it not $16.99 to which they replied the filter is not included and costs $5. (Wouldn't that be $21.99?-but I digress). I wasn't going to argue over a few dollars however I arrived home and looked at the coupon which stated $10 off oil change and filter. Apparently I should've read more reviews before taking our car to this terrible business. Despite our better judgement, we chose to take our car here instead of the dealership we usually go to. We took our car in for a routine oil change to try to support this local shop a couple weeks ago. They called us to let us know that upon inspection, our car needed new brake pads, new struts and new shocks. What was supposed to be a basic oil change, turned into a bill that was in the thousands. We were completely surprised by all this work that needed to be done. Even more surprising was the fact that we'd never been warned that our shocks and struts were having any issues at any previous inspections. We declined the struts and shocks and had them go ahead with the oil change and brake pads (it was close to time for those anyway- but looking back, we had zero signs of brake pad wear other than their report). When we got home, the car was continuously leaking fresh oil. My husband looked underneath and the oil was leaking out because they didn't even bother to tighten a cap well by hand. My husband tightened the piece needed and we no longer had any oil leak. When we called to let them know, they told us "oh, your car was leaking oil when it came in". Not the case. We've never had an oil leak on this car. Our pristine garage floors would prove that. Seems pretty ridiculous that a simple oil change can be done so poorly and then lied about when we point out a mistake made. Here is the kicker: we didn't trust their diagnosis of thousands of dollars of repairs needed so my husband took it to the dealership for a second inspection (even telling them that he expected something to be found and to please look until they found any issues possible). You'd think they would list absolutely anything they could find given that kind of go-ahead and potential money-making opportunity. The dealership found NOTHING abnormal about the car at all and especially nothing wrong with the shocks and struts. They said they absolutely do not need to be replaced, despite the LIE from Brakes Plus. We could've paid for thousands of dollars in unnecessary repairs if we hadn't trusted our gut! If you value your money and general honesty, do not take your car here. They will gouge you and make up repairs that are not needed. They should probably figure out basic oil change technique before they expect customers to trust them with hefty repairs. Run far away from this auto shop! There are plenty of quality shops that will not lie to make a buck. read more

My son went to get an oil change for his car. Never had a problem with oil leaking until we went to this location. Had to go back to get the leak fixed, they tightened something and sent him on his way. Car is still leaking. Went back a third time, they are too busy to help him. You should not have to go back three times for a simple oil change and the fact they said he would need to wait 5 hours after the third time is unacceptable. His car is very low on oil and should not be driven until it is fixed. Horrible! read more

I would absolutely not recommend this place to anybody. I went here because I was on my way to Colorado Springs and far from home and needed to have someone check out my car because I heard a noise and I felt my wheel wobble a little bit. They took my car to check to see what was wrong and gave me a call when they were done. They told me I need over $900 dollars of work done including a wheel bearing and that I had a leak in my break line. They told me these were recommendations in my history from when I got my alignment done in 2017!!! I live 45 mins away from castle rock north and had to get my car towed back closer to home and have someone look at my car. Come to find out I didn't need anything that brakes plus recommend and that I had loose lug nuts on my wheel and wouldn't cost me a thing to fix. I don't know how brakes plus can check brakes or even a wheel bearing by only looking under the car!! If they would have done their job and took off my tire to check the issues I was having they would have fixed the problem by tightening the lug nuts when they put my tire back on!!! Also they were extremely rude and were talking to me like I didn't know anything about cars. read more

I feel I can trust them! I was frustrated and they just did what they could and were really cool about it. I would rate 4 stars, but what gets me is that after ok-ing the work, the vehicle sits outside while other vehicles are serviced. Just makes me think that once the job is authorized you get put on the back burner. Just wish the staff was better at communicating what's going on when the car is being held 3+ hours over the estimated time. It was kind of them to pay for the Ubers needed since we needed to stay the night in Castle Rock for the repairs, but not great to charge full price on an alignment that they couldn't finish without taking even more time. read more

Cody and Matt and the mechanic (I'm sorry I didn't catch his name) at Brakes Plus in Castle Rock were SO GREAT to me! On my way home yesterday, the front end of my 4Runner started making a sad grinding noise...new vibrations could be felt in the steering wheel and the brake pedal...I didn't feel comfortable driving home in it. They squeezed me in at the end of the day. We went to Sushi Castle for dinner while we waited for our turn. Shout out to Sushi Castle! We love that place too. I had wheel bearings go out and they were able to identify the issue immediately. They hustled (literally running out the door) to get replacement parts that evening when parts stores were closing up. What is more important to me though is that they took the time to take me for a drive in the finished runner and explain to me how the whole thing works and why I was hearing the noises I heard. They showed me the damaged bearing casing and explained that I had another bearing on its way out as well. So I scheduled the other bearing fix for a Saturday and drove away CONFIDENT that I got my car fixed and I learned something about mr car. I only wish I would have saved the damaged part because it's really interesting to look at the mangled metal! ALSO, Discount Tire recommended Brakes Plus to me as I went there first for a solution. I have to write a review because I feel as though they defiantly take advantage of women at this location and future customers should know it. I hate this place. Every single time I go here they try to sell me on things I don't need claiming more than once that it "needs to be done immediately". I am a single mom who admittedly, doesn't know much about cars and I feel as though they prey on that. The first time I brought my car here for a standard oil change they told me I had to have new brakes put on that day because they where worn down to the rotors and I could be in an accident. I thought that was fishy because my car was just 2 years old with 60,000 miles on it. So I took it to my dealer for a second opinion, turned out I had great brakes that didn't need replacing for at least another 15-20000 miles. Also, they quoted me almost $200 more than the dealer to have my timing belt changed. Fast forward almost a year, dealer says it's time for new breaks. Cool, I start shopping around for a good deal and end up here thinking I know exactly what I need, how could they possibly try to sell me? Well they did. Again they told me my rotors and bindings where severely damaged and I needed to have them replaced. I said BS the dealer had told me literally 12hrs earlier that my rotors where fine and I only needed pads. That night I go in to pick up my vehicle and the battery is dead in their parking lot. Coincidence? Maybe, but it smells like stinky fish to me. Unfortunately my family loves this place so when my car died again a few weeks later they took it here without my knowledge, to have the battery replaced but that is the last dollar that I will ever give this company. read more

The first two places I went to gave me a laundry list of expensive things that needed to be done without even asking the make, model or age of either of my cars. . . nice. I dropped by Brakes plus for one more check and the first question they asked was the make, model and mileage of both cars. From there they gave me a list of things they recommend. I have since gone back for oil changes and a power steering flush with the same great service.
