Cody and Matt and the mechanic (I'm sorry I didn't catch his name) at Brakes Plus in Castle Rock were SO GREAT to me! On my way home yesterday, the front end of my 4Runner started making a sad grinding noise...new vibrations could be felt in the steering wheel and the brake pedal...I didn't feel comfortable driving home in it. They squeezed me in at the end of the day. We went to Sushi Castle for dinner while we waited for our turn. Shout out to Sushi Castle! We love that place too. I had wheel bearings go out and they were able to identify the issue immediately. They hustled (literally running out the door) to get replacement parts that evening when parts stores were closing up. What is more important to me though is that they took the time to take me for a drive in the finished runner and explain to me how the whole thing works and why I was hearing the noises I heard. They showed me the damaged bearing casing and explained that I had another bearing on its way out as well. So I scheduled the other bearing fix for a Saturday and drove away CONFIDENT that I got my car fixed and I learned something about mr car. I only wish I would have saved the damaged part because it's really interesting to look at the mangled metal! ALSO, Discount Tire recommended Brakes Plus to me as I went there first for a solution. We took our 2001 Rav4 to Brakes Plus May 2014. Somehow ,it needed $2700 worth of work which my husband had done because he need to drive to CA - his mom was ill. He was still having problems and upon returning there was fluid leaking on our garage floor. I told my husband the car seemed very loud to me. He took it back and they just added steering fluid additive. That stopped the leak but not the loud sound. We don't use this vehicle a lot so didn't think much more about it. About a month later, while getting ready to take a brief trip, the check engine light came on, so my husband used my car for his trip. I drove down the hill and the Rav slipped into neutral and then tried bouncing from gear to gear. I got it back to Brakes Plus where they said they'd have to have their transmission guy look at it. I rented a car and a couple days later got a call from Ammon and he said I needed a new transmission. It would cost $4500 and if that didn't work they'd have to try replacing another item (never said what it was) that would be another $1000. And by the way, they towed it to their transmission guy on Broadway in So. Denver and were going to charge me $75 for that. I got upset with him for NOT telling me their transmission guy was elsewhere and I SHOULD HAVE BEEN CALLED. He took back the $75 charge. I was very upset that I was not told. We didn't want to have the RAV repaired. I asked for the vehicle to be returned. (A few days later they said they'd tow it to my home, which they did). After reading on-line about the 2001-2003 Ravs I discovered that the ECM had a recall a few years back. That should have been what they looked at first. This component. controls the transmission. We had Auto Zone on Wilcox (VERY helpful BTW) do a read out on the check engine light (free) and it said the ECM. Since,I have read that this has been a BIG problem with RAVs of this era. They had a class action suit as well. We are now discussing this with a Rep at Toyota - and not getting anywhere since we have over the extended warranty the gave all owners of 10 years/100k miles. I think we are stuck. I would not use Brakes Plus for anything more than Brakes and Oil Change. They were very unprofessional and never gave me anything written, never let me know my car was being towed elsewhere, etc. I am not even sure our car needed the $2,700 worth of repairs they did last May. I will never use a chain store repair again! read more

As we all have limited time this story should serve as a warming to you. I called to ask about getting an alignment done and they said come on down and I'll keep a bay open for you. I said great I'll be there in a half hour. So I jumped in the truck and drove 25 minutes from parker to castle rock. When I arrived another man helped me. I said I'm here to have an alignment on this truck and I called 30 min ago and someone else said come on down we will keep a bay open and it will take 30-40 min. He says, annoyed, "well it will take 1-1.5 hours actually. I looked at the time and said well I probably can't wait then because I have to drive back to parker and pick my son from preschool by 11. He was not apologetic more annoyed that I was annoyed. Waste of expensive diesel fuel and time. Won't be returning read more

Avoid this place like the plague! Scheduled an appointment for an oil change with the advertised 16.99 coupon. When my wife, after getting 3 kids out of the house to get to the appointment shows up, she's told that the coupon can't be used because the vehicle is high mileage. IT HAS 80000 MILES. How is that considered high mileage? And if that's the case it should be standard practice to disclose that information when making an appointment. I contacted the manager at the store and was completely disregarded, and then hung up on. What a bunch of scam artists. I wonder if they're generally scum bags, or decided to try and get some extra money out of my wife because she's a women. Either way just brakes just lost any future business and I would highly recommend avoiding them. read more

My rotors needed machining and I went to Just Brakes because It was after Brakes Plus' published hours. After 15 minutes with no one speaking to me at Just Brakes I went to Brakes Plus. I tried to drop off the rotors to be completed in the morning but the guys there wouldn't let me. Instead they machined the rotors right then and there! They told me that they weren't open Sunday so they spent the extra time after closing Saturday to help me out. They also answered some questions I had about my brakes that I had been working on myself (not even in their shop). Overall I am extremely happy. The technicians and managers were friendly and knowledgeable I will be going back. read more

I had my oil changed at the dealer a week before my visit at Brakes Plus and their inspections absolutely matched. When they called me they told me what needed done in the front and that the back eventually would need done but wasn't emergent. The man was very honest and not trying to up sell me at all. The service was standard but the price for parts was a 50% mark-up from retail. The Advanced Auto parts store that is literally right next door charges half of what they charge for parts. Wake up people! We control the market and you are getting stolen from by all these chain store auto mechanics. Been going to this Brakes Plus for years. Had a bad experience yesterday day and will NOT being going back!! After having brakes done and less then 20,000 miles their lifetime brakes staring grinning yet being their fault I was charged $65.00 labor. I called and asked if they could change the rotors and brakes. Preferably turn the rotors. Dropped the vehicle off and was called almost an hour later. Said I needed a new Master Cylinder and both Calipers replaced. I knew that I had this type of work done elsewhere less than two years ago. Went home verified that I had the work done 17 months earlier. Checked all around the master cylinder, no leaks, even though Brakes Plus had indicated the master cylinder was leaking. Had Meinke do the brake work for me, no mention of any leaks or defaulting calipers. Drove 1200 back to Michigan for holidays, had Firestone look at it. Knew the manager from Firestone for over 15 years, trust what he has to say, he stated nothing wrong with the Master Cylinder or the Calipers. Beware of these guys, they are out to scam the unwary. read more

I brought my car in for an alignment after purchasing new tires. I was told by another place that I needed an alignment because there was such uneven wear on my old tires. Brakes Plus was able to fit me in right away (when you have a baby, this is a necessity). They checked my car, did the whole diagnostic, and told me that there was in fact no issue with my alignment so it would be of no charge. I know many places that would have taken advantage of the situation and charged me for an alignment I didn't need. I appreciate your honesty and will be bringing my car here in the future. read more

I went to Just Brakes across the street first, they quoted $1,200 for pads and rotors. I had a squeak on the left front, and got that gut feeling I was being ripped off. I had to make an appointment at Brakes Plus, and am so glad I did! Cody took the time to show me my issues on my brakes, which did not need rotors, he explained the caliper was failing on the left front! It caused that pad to wear much faster, thus the squeak. He gave me several options, with the obvious being to eventually having to replace the caliper. I opted to just change the pads for $133, and will change both front calipers when the left one fails, or sooner. Since I drive less than 500 miles a month that might last awhile. I won't be taking my vehicle anywhere else from now on! read more

Avoid this place. Unprofessional scam artists. My first visit for a new battery, they tried to sell me all kinds of work. I stated I would have to wait to have anything done as it was not in my budget and I'm on a very fixed income. They were supposed to rotate the tires, also, at no charge. Because I wasn't spending a fortune there, I told Ammon that he did not have to rotate the tires, especially if it would cost me because I could take my vehicle back to Discount Tire for free rotations. He said, "No problem." They rotated my tires (or said they did) and tried to charge me $15.00. When I complained, their mood and treatment of me changed. I am a woman...guess I'm not supposed to speak my mind or stand up for myself... I actually gave them a second chance. That was a mistake. I have had issues with my brakes "freezing" in my Toyota 4Runner. I had already paid over $500.00 to replace the master cylinder at another Castle Rock car repair. (Another horror story, another review!) No one seems to be able to diagnose the problem. Cory told me it was my brake booster, and quotes another outrageous amount for repair. He said it was the text book example of the problem. I swear he sounded like a cartoon character of a salesman or the proverbial snake oil salesman! Funny, they either fixed it or it miraculously fixed itself, it hasn't happened again, since. Again, when I went to pick it up I was treated rather coldly, and when I got home, realized they hadn't fully shut my hood. I am lucky that I have not spent a whole lot there, wasn't ripped off worse, and even more so, that I did not have to get on the highway to come home. That whole situation could have been much worse. I don't know about their other employees but the two I've dealt with, Cory and Ammon, are d-bags.Do not become a victim of this place, especially if you are a woman! read more

I was going to drop my work van off at the just brakes in parker since my rear brakes were metal on metal. But I was right around the corner from this location and even though I know they close at 6 I saw them there at about 630. So I figured maybe they could just pop the rear wheels off and take a look real quick. I do heating and air conditioning so switching vehicles and tools and parts is a big hassle. Would have had to if I took it to parker the next morning. Long story short these guys looked at the rear brakes and said they could do it right then! By this time it was almost an hour after their closing time. By about 8pm they had them replaced and done. Really helped me avoid delays and frustration. All I have to say is they displayed the same sort of customer service I give my customers to make sure they come back. These guys went above and beyond. Let me start by saying that I know my way around a vehicle, owning multiple Jeeps that I wheel like they were meant to be. Been wrenching since I was a wee lad. I do most of the work myself but on occasion when time and weather or special tools don't allow it I take to a shop. I have tried multiple 4x4 shops around Castle Rock/South Denver area and all have been ok. Happened on this Brakes Plus when a tire shop cross threaded a few lug studs and referred me here to get if fixed. Cody runs a top notch shop; from shuttles to and from my house to quality work and making things right. Markup on parts is reasonable (they need to make some money on them) and service hours are accurate for work needed and in the two times I have been there they have ALWAYS explained as well as shown me the issues. Cody has always explained the recommended work and options. I have had rear calipers, brake pads, and rotors on the rear (which I knew were failing) as well as replacing rear axle bearings on a D60 rear end, which can be a bear to do if heat is involved and race is stuck in the axle tube. Took them a little over what the estimated time was without knowing how bad it was. Would have easily taken me twice as long and I still might not have gotten it out. Cody is great at getting you out the door with the best price he can while still making money. I would recommend this shop to anyone. read more
