These guys are great. I used to take my cars to another place that would try to up sell me on everything, and they did crappy work. I was always going back. Brakes Plus has done brake jobs on my jeep and other random work I needed to get done. they don't try to up sell me. they have great customer service and stand behind their work. I love that they can give me a ride to work when I drop my car off. I would highly recommend them for anyone who needs auto repair work. I got a couple of quotes for brake repair for my LX470 SUV from Just Brakes and Brakes Plus in the Denver, CO market (one is on Leetsdale and the other is on South Broadway). I was so totally disgusted by the subterfuge and dishonesty, I decided to post a write-up on a couple of web sites so other people can avoid getting ripped off. Here are examples of several scams they tried to use on me: 1. Both repair shops used the scam where they prey on customer fear by planting the idea that brake failure is imminent and I was putting all of mankind at risk. Not so from the mechanic that repaired my brakes. 2. Just Brakes fraud: Tell customer that the brake pads aren't carried in stock and will upcharge another $100.00 to order the pads. Autozone and Checkers carry these pads is stock. Don't fall for this one. The pads I needed are common (Lexus) and used on many models. 3. Just Brakes major scam: They won't give firm quotes on the repair work. They gave me a minimum estimate of $294.00 for my LX470. I replied that I wouldn't have the work done without a firm estimate. The scam is that Just Brakes finds additional problems when the work is performed and the original estimate triples to $900.00, or higher. One lady had a write-up that said Brakes Plus was going to charge her $3700 for a new master cylinder, calipers, etc. She needed an adjustment of an $8.00 part. Her husband was an ASE certified Master Mechanic and caught the fraud easily. Check out other Just Brakes comments, this is a common scam. 4. Just Brakes rip-off. They told me they were unable to measure the rotors and couldn't tell me if they needed to be replaced or just machined. Why would Brakes Plus be able to measure the rotors and Just Brakes couldn't? It didn't add up that they could put a micrometer on the rotor and give a fairly precise analysis of whether I needed rotors replaced or machined. 5. Brakes Plus used the scam where I dropped off my car for the estimate, got an outrageous quote with numerous unnecessary ad-ons such as: "brake system flush and inboard and outboard hardware replacement, hub 4x4 add on, new grease seals, replace 2 rotors, etc." I said "No" to the work. The Manager called back a few hours later and offered me a great deal, 10% off. Wow, what a bargain, 10% off, but I still get to pay $600.00 over what I really needed for unnecessary repairs and huge mark-ups on the parts. 6. Brakes Plus scam: On the actual paper estimate they lump all the "dire things" into more general listings so comparison to other estimates is difficult. I ended up finding a mechanic on Craigslist that charged $55.00 labor + parts. What I really needed was 2 sets of new pads, about $30.00 each set at Autozone and one new rotor $40.00. Both companies price match. So, the grand total was about $150.00. He even came to my house. He laughed when I went through all the scams and he agreed they were dishonest with me. This mechanic had worked previously at Brakes Plus, Meineke, etc. and said the manager's have incentive bonuses and can make upwards of $7000.00 a month in bonuses. The line repair guys are in on it too because their bonuses are tied to the manager's bonuses, so everyone plays the game for $$$. He said they don't discriminate either, they try the same fraud on men, women, elderly, everyone. My recommendation is to steer clear of both companies that charge outrageous prices for unnecessary repairs, especially 592 South Broadway, Denver, Just Brakes, where they won't even give you a firm estimate. The fool behind the desk;s rationale was "you don't get a firm quote when you get heart surgery......". Unbelievable. read more

Great experience! I called ahead to make an appointment and they took my car back right on time. Both of the staff at the front were courteous and helpful, and once my car was done they were very thorough with their explanations and answered the questions I had as well. I had to get some further service done and they referred me to a great spot for that, as it wasn't something they did there. They didn't try to up sale me on services nor did they come up with the typical phantom issues most auto repair shops seem to find. Great prices too! read more

I've been taking my car here for almost two years. The team here is polite, professional and efficient. Last summer when my AC blew out, I went to two other repair shops and was told the repairs would cost almost $1000. Scam - women especially beware! Tried to sell me $1400 worth of repairs on a 3 year old car, including new front and rear brake pads. When I balked at the price, they offered to call my husband. Apparently, as a woman, I am too stupid to know anything about car repairs. I took it to another mechanic who said that only one of the things they wanted to do actually needed to be done and the brake pads were only half-way worn. He is charging me $80 for the one thing that needs to be done. I won't be back. read more

Don't go unless you have a lot of time to waste! Discount Tires directed me to Brakes Plus to replace 2 broken studs & bolts. I called and was told they had openings and could complete the repair right away. After 2 hours of watching the mechanics take brakes, eat lunch and shoot the bull, they finally informed me that they were waiting for the parts to be delivered. It took another hour after that for the work to be completed. They were polite enough while wasting my entire morning, however I wish they would have been more upfront with me and more urgent about competing the work. read more

My 1999 civic failed emissions so I took it to this brakes plus. After paying $100 do get a $950 estimate that included the spark plugs, I decide against service and picked up the car. Less than 10 miles later, the car broke down. I called a friend and changed the spark plugs for $16. Unfortunately something still didn't feel right. We found the spark plug wire had been disconnected from the carboratoer and damaged. I called to let Rich, the manager, know; not looking for anything, just appeared someone was careless. His response was that nobody touched my spark plug wires yet that was part of the ridiculous estimate. And just to top it off I had emissions done after changing the spark plugs for $16 my car passed emissions. So not only did they try and charge me a ridiculous amount of money for what ultimately was a $16 job, they were unwilling to even apologize for causing further damage to my car. I do not recommend this Brakes Plus for any work on your vehicle. read more

First of all, I left this location with over $500 worth of front and back brake work done to my truck. I had just had my rear drums replaced a few years before, and low and behold, Brakes Plus said that I needed new rear drums and shoes again in order to resolve a shaking issue to the front end of my truck while braking. SERIOUSLY, listen customers, the truck was not driven hard and drums and shoes do not wear out in only two years of minimal driving conditions. This whole time Brakes Plus swore that it was my front rotors that were causing my problems. WRONG!!!!! I finally went to an honest mechanic who made the necessary adjustments to my rear drums and shoes, and guess what???? The shaking issue was resolved. I will never go to Brakes Plus for any type of repairs. I think the original owners need to reevaluate what a certified mechanic can offer. Quality service that comes from certified professionals not only trained with expert diagnostics skills, but technicians that really know the mechanics of how a vehicle works!! In other words, real honest mechanics. Pass on any of their locations and FIND an honest genuine mechanic to perform your repairs and don't be fooled by the slick advertising!!! read more

I had an awful experience at the Brakes Plus in Superior, which is very far from my house. This Brakes Plus location is much closer, but because my car broke down closer to the Superior location, that's where I brought it. After the people at the Superior royally messed up my car, these guys at this Leetsdale location were able to fix what they messed up. They were much more honest and significantly more experienced than the guys in Louisville. Rich is the GM at this location and was really wonderful and helpful. Quality work and employees My girlfriend and I live in Illinois and drove to Denver for a vacation from 3/2-3/5. While pulling into Denver after the approximate 950 miles we had already driven, we realized our breaks stopped releasing all the way. We brought our vehicle there the next day and they did a free inspection, however, the repair was quoted more than what we could afford. We spoke to Rich, (store manager) explained our situation, and he said to come back on Monday if we wanted them to do the repair. We then called as many other shops and mechanics as we could find contact information for and was unable to find a better quote. Monday, 3/4, we went back to Brakes Plus and spoke with Rich again. Rich, along with the other employees I interacted with, were some of the most patient and understanding mechanics I have ever spoken with. We went over the original quote and Rich help us determine what was necessary for us to fix in order to get back to Illinois, as well as what we could delay until we got home. My girlfriend and I left Brakes Plus feeling confident that we would be able to make it home safe. 3 weeks and 1500 miles after the repair, the car is still driving and braking well. read more

I recently had a situation where my car wouldn't start. Yikes! I had a plane to catch in three hours!!! I looked across the street and noticed a Brakes Plus on Leetsdale so I walked over there, nervously anticipating the outcome. The staff was so friendly and helpful. Steve drove me across the street to jump start my car and he was able to immediately determine the problem-a loose connection to my battery. We drove to Brakes Plus where he fixed it in about one second. I was completely impressed by his knowledge and pleasant attitude and most of all-by his honesty!! They could have sold me anything and I would have paid but they were entirely honest and that is a rare quality these days. I highly recommend this company. BAD My (drivers side) front light didn't work. Changed the bulb myself but no luck. I went to Brakes Plus. They said it is due to the exposed wiring around the front light. Estimated costs: $316. I said, NO, I am willing to spend $200 with cheaper bulbs. So, they worked on it. Once done, they said: only the high beamer works, not the low beamer. You need to buy a whole new front light case (Estimated costs: $200-$250). I said, NO. I went home, checked the fuse...and it was broken. I replaced it myself, $3.99 for buying a new fuse. It worked! Bad service at this location. They should have checked the fuse as part of assessing this issue. read more

My fiancé and I came in last week to get the front breaks, rotors and the front axels replaced. We bought our own breaks and rotors so we really only had to pay for labor. After doing a full inspection they recommended we changed the back breaks too but we opted out of that because we plan on doing that ourselves in the next coming weeks. We dropped the vehicle off and was told that they would give us a call with pricing on the front axels. As discussed on the phone, we wanted both front axels replaced. We sent about $500 on all the work that was done this day- sounds pretty reasonable right? Well come to find out when we picked up our truck, they only replaced 1 axel, the side that was the worse. Not sure why they only did that when we agreed that both sides need to be done. After spending all that money we thought we got a deal for all that work since the parts for the breaks and rotors were supplied. When my fiancé spoke to the manager there was apparently nothing that could be done and if we came back they'd have to additionally charge us for labor when this could have been completed when the one side was done. read more

This is one slimy shop. I brought my car in for an oil change because it was cheap and near my work and they gave me a laundry list of work to be done. I took the list to my normal mechanic and, while some things COULD have been done, nothing with the life or death (literally w my breaks) urgency they placed on it. That's whatever. But then my friend took her car in for an oil change and they told her that her engine was likely blown and a $100 diagnostic would be required or she could just fix it. She did the diagnostic and they said there was a crack in the cylinder and they ...get this...they recommended she rig the crack and power wash it for $250 and then drive it straight to a dealer to trade it in!! What kind or morals and values are on display here?! How would you feel if you bought a lemon someone knowingly traded in! Ever hear of Karma? So then she insists on just the oil change and they come back and say that they already did the work, but since they did it before she authorized it that it was free. Aka...there was never anything wrong and they didn't want to get caught with their pants down when she took it else where. Yes, so the jingle is completely empty because they don't care about you, or anyone else, only the dollar. I'm also reporting them to the BBB. read more

After Discount Tires broke a lug nut on the hub of my tire, they referred me to Brakes Plus. I first went to the one on Colorado and Evans and they were solidly booked for today. They called the Brakes Plus in Cherry Creek and they said come right over, they would try to get me in and out as quickly as possible. Rich, the general manager was polite and extremely helpful. He knew I was driving back home up the mountains to Vail. He called to insure the parts needed were available and assured me the car would be ready by 2:00pm. AJ provided a ride for me and picked me up when my car was ready. Aside from the time involved, which was not their fault, I was extremely pleased with the extent of customer service they provided. Kudos to Rich and AJ, job well done. I would definitely recommend this Brakes Plus location. read more

This Brakes Plus location has such a wonderful team! They took my car in today without an appointment after it had overheated. They got everything fixed and had me back on the road within a few hrs. Everyone there (Rich, AJ, Mike) is kind, responsive, and they are sure to keep you posted on what they're working on/what the costs are. I am always treated with respect, care and honesty and never feel pressured to do any unnecessary work. They've helped me make the best decisions for an aging vehicle without breaking the bank. I tried this location out for the first time this week when I discovered I had a really bad alignment problem. I went in for the free alignment check knowing that I was definitely going to have to pay for some type of fix. The alignment had ruined my front tires, so I knew it wasn't going to be good news. About 20 minutes after I dropped my car off, I got a call about the problem with my alignment and struts. The man was very honest about the problem and described it to me in detail, and offered two fixes. The obvious one was to replace the struts and shocks (the long term, better fix), but he also offered a safe, short-term alternative fix since he knew I had just spent a large amount getting new tires after the alignment ruined mine. That would be two large, unexpected purchases in one day, and I knew I couldn't swing it. I went with the safe, short-term fix and he printed me a quote for the strut and shocks replacement. That way, when I can budget more and come back for the big fix, I have a fixed price and they will honor it at any time! I was super impressed by the service here, and of course I always give car places bonus points when they treat me right, cause as all you ladies probably know, it's common for car places to treat us like ignorant girls. read more

I've had nothing but positive experiences with Brakes Plus off of Leetsdale so far. I originally visited them to have my brakes replaced. They recommended additonal repairs at the time and I asked them to please show me. The mechanic took me into the shop and showed me everything they had recommended. A few days after having my brakes done, I noticed the small Nissan emblem on one of my wheels was missing. I called them up and they ordered me a new one, free of charge and placed it for me at my leisure. I returned a few months later to have a wheel bearing replaced (which they originally recommended and I could feel getting worse). I dropped my car off the night before, had a quote by 8am and my car was done by 9am. Great service, not pushy and everyone has been incredibly pleasant to work with. read more

I have been to this Brakes Plus twice now and each time they try to upsell me and spend way over what I initially was prepared to spend. This time around, I called to get a quote and got a appropriate amount of what I thought that I'd spend (~$250 for a synthetic oil change and front brake pads). After dropping my car off first thing in the morning at 8am, about an hour passes and the service manager comes out to give me the diagnosis of what else they found and then changed my price to $415. Luckily I called in to get a quote and said that I was prepared to spend $250 and they quickly said that they would see what they can do to change the price. They then came back with the exact amount of $250 excluding tax. Just wanted to get the word out to go in with knowledge of what you're spending and what you want done. Ask to see the specs and know what you're looking at before they try to rip you off. read more

this place is a crimanal operation, they lie about the condition of your car so they can fix it... my mom took her truck here to get her clutch fixed and they gave her a very high bid to fix it. she naturly took it ion for a second look by another business and they said the clutch was fine, the floor mat was just pulled up to high and it was blocking the clutch from going all the way down. i also took my car here and i had just had my breaks changed, they did a tune up on my car and came out and said my breaks are in need of being changed, so i took it back to the place i had the breaks changed and they showed me my breaks were brand new! read more

I had my brakes grinding and it came at a not so opportune time for me financially. I called them and they gave me quotes over the phone based on my car, gave me an appointment that worked with my schedule in the rush I needed. The next morning on my way there AJ even helped me get approved for the credit card I needed for the repairs to my vehicle so I would not be late to work. I dropped my care off, signed the paperwork, and before I was at work recieved a call with total diagnosis and pricing within my expectations and within 2 hours my car was finished, though they were more than happy to allow me to leave until I was off of work and could be brought to pick up my car. Their level of customer service, understanding of my situation, budget and time restraints and care for my personal needs was extraordinary in a world where customer care and great personal service are often nonexistant. I work in Customer Service and lead a team of people in this area that I am very proud of, and I must say, I will be a returning customer, and am a very impressed customer of this store location and its employees. I had a positive experience and received great service at this location. I had a negative experience at a different Brakes Plus location a few years ago, but saw this location on Leetsdale had several positive reviews on Google. I called and AJ answered my questions promptly and directly, and told me that they could get me in within 24 hours. I took my vehicle there a couple days later. Rich made the effort to remember my name, after my car was inspected and then had to bring it back later after work and once the parts were in. My car is 25 years old so finding parts for it is a challenge, but Rich put forth the effort and was able to secure the parts the same day for my car to be done that afternoon. I also appreciate Rich showing me a list of the repairs that needed to be done, but understanding that I could not afford all of them that day, so prioritizing the repairs, plus offering a coupon. I will be back for getting the rest of the brakes work done. I do recommend this place! read more
