So my dad has been looking for a hairstylist and my friend recommended this place. I told him about it and gave it a try. I swear they knocked off 10 years off my dad. Everything was straight and clean cut. They know what they're doing and their experience shows in their cuts. Dad was satisfied. He raved not only are they good but they're friendly like family. Every time I need a quick trim I come here. Mimi is so nice and the lady with the long her does a good job too. My simple trims turn out... Nice and simple. BUT! This one time I came here and waited for one of the ladies to cut my hair (the nice one with the long hair), she was busy so she told me this other lady can cut my hair and I was iffy because I watched her cut a customers hair and I didn't like it was it was choppy. The lady with the long hair told me this other lady was good too so I was like okaaayyyy... I told her that I did not want my hair to be choppy and I don't think she understood what I meant because I got home and I was horrified! My hair was not only 3 inches shorter than I told her, but it was so choppy and ridiculously terrible that I refused to leave the house! I ended up having to fix my own hair! Lesson: don't have the lady with the short hair not named Mimi cut you hair!!! read more

Kathy knows how to cut hair with years of experience, has a great personality, friendly smile, interesting stories and listens to what I wanted done and did it professionally. My family has been going to this hair salon for years. My dad always gets his haircuts with Mimi. She is very sweet and always asks about my family and talks about her family. You see pictures of them everywhere. She is very nice and good at what she does. If she wasn't. we wouldn't have been going to her for so many years. The haircuts are cheap and good. Still coming here semi-regularly and I still usually get a decent looking haircut 3 out of 4 times depending on which barber cuts my hair. Used to come here due to the decent pricing for a men's haircut. It was $9 for the longest time and now the price has been raised to $11. Which is still decent I guess with everything else going up in prices. Would be nice if they would turn the AC on during summer days as I usually tend to break a sweat while i'm sitting there as the ventilation is not that great. read more

This was the biggest mistake to come here. I went to get my eyebrows wax and instead she ripped off some of my hair from my hairline. I told her ouch it hurts you ripped off my hair. She denied it and said no I only took the eyebrow hair off. I looked at the strip to find pieces of my hair (not eyebrow on it). She then proceeded to pluck my eyebrows. I originally told her not to do it too thin and ofcourse I barely have eyebrows left. not to mention I was very red and then she applied gobs of vasaline on my eyebrows and again went into my hair line. She also used a dirty towel where I was to lay my head on and not to mention a dirty comb full of hair to brush my eyebrows. I actually paid for this awful experience and she didn't even say sorry. I will never come back here again. read more

I have had good and bad experiences at Mimi's hair express. I used to go to this salon regularly about 3 years ago and Fazilla was my go to hair dresser. Overall, I liked her work but I hated the fact that she was always late and would have missed appointments with me. I noticed that she would over book her clients and I felt at times she would be rushing with me because her next client showed up for their appointment. It's definately not a good idea to book an early appointment with her because she will usually keep you waiting because she is normally 15-20 mins late. I recently went back and decided to give them another chance but instead of going to Fazilla I chose to go to Mimi, who is also the owner of the salon. I really liked her work. I got a haircut, eyebrow waxing, and highlights done. That day I was her only customer because the salon was slow and she really took her time on me. The highlights were okay but not bad. I did however like my hair cut and the price was also reasonable. I paid $85 for all these services. Overall good work with a decent prices. I guess your good or bad experience depends on the day and if they are busy but I am willing to continue going to this salon and I'll write an update on my future experiences. read more

I've been going to Fazila to get my eyebrows done for as long as I can remember. She was recommended by a friend and I've recommended several family members and friends to her. She has never let anyone down and turns every first timer into a fan. She totally ROCKS. I'll never let anyone touch my eyebrows except Fazila!! read more

I have been going to Mimi's for over 15 years...I don't think you can get a better haircut for the price - $12 - anywhere else in San Jose. I used to go to expensive salons and paid 2 or 3 times that amount...But not any more. I realize cutting men's and women's hair may be different. But for guys this is not only a good buy, but a quality job done right. read more

This place is a joke!! I went there for a simple body wave and it came out so crappy!! The body wave lotion was not rinsed out, so the chemicals in it burnt the $hit out of my hair. I came back the following day to get a trim, because due to the poor body wave, my hair was super frizzy... Then i had to go back a 3rd to get my hair thined out, because it was still too frizzy and thick. I went home later and tried curling my hair, but no matter how hott i got the curling- iron, my hair would not take a curl at all, therefore my hair was super damaged. The next day i returned to her salon and instead of telling her how bad of a job she did in front of her customers, i asked her to step outside and told her how i felt and showed her the condition of my damaged hair. Instead of trying to figure out a solution, she told me to purchase a conditioner from her and that would fix the problem, however it was just a cheap ploy to get me to spend more money. The next day i returned to let her know her conditioner didnt do the job and insisted that she give me a refund, the told me it was her belief and bad luck to return money in the morning, and for me to return in the evening and upon doing so, she told me that her husband said she should NOT refund me my money. I dont understand what her husband has to do with anything, other than the fact that he is married to her, but he didnt cutt my hair, nor did he see the HORRIBLE job she did. I have been going there for over 30 years and Mary Twa normally cutts my hair, but since she wasnt there, i figured the owner would know what she was doing, so i gave her a shot. This was the BIGGEST mistake in the world and i will never go back!!!!!!!!! Think of the 10's of thousands that i have spent there over the last 30 yrs, and from this day on, they will never see any of my money again and i will never refer anyone i know to get their haircutt done there. This was the second time that we tried Mimi's and I have never had such a bad hair cut experience until now. They didn't no how to do a simple layer cut. We left and her hair was uneven and short. My daughter cried when she saw what the lady did to her hair. I don't think she even understood English just agreed. I had to take her some where else to get it fixed. If you want a style cut do not go here they will mess up your hair. read more

I've had my hair cut by Mimi since before she owned the place (1989 or so) when she was the go-to girl for flat-tops. Now that I've gotten over my flat-top days and I'm needing a bit more work done, Mimi gets it done to my satisfaction. Flat-tops are still around $10 and I suppose I can say they specialize in "asian" hair. Granted, I don't get perms so I don't know how that goes and I accept the limitations of my hair but I can say I've never had a bad experience at Mimi's. Saturday afternoons do get a bit busy so I'd suggest trying to swing a weekday or earlier on the weekends. read more
