Getting a Brazilian or full bikini wax is always painful and a little awkward/uncomfortable, but Melissa is such a pro and makes you feel right at home. She is super sweet & caring and does her best to lessen the pain as much as possible. The type of wax (hard wax) she uses is also less painful than the soft wax (taken off with strips) that a lot of other waxers use. This review is waaaay overdue, but Melissa is seriously the best! If you're a first timer for any type of wax look no further. I've gotten my eyebrows done and Brazilians from her and have always been left more than satisfied. Melissa really cares for her customers it's basically like getting a wax done from your friend because that's how she treats you. For Brazilians she helps ease you into your first time by teaching you breathing techniques all while keeping a easy conversation with you so you don't feel awkward about being on full display. She also sends you home with a care package and teaches you after care so you avoid any ingrown hairs down there! Should you have any ingrowns I'd leave it to her to take them out, she's very skilled as to not leave you with scars as opposed to when you do them yourself. Back story to this appt was that a very good friend of mines bought me a brazilian wax for my birthday last year (2017). Ive been putting it off because I was really scared and shy to go. Well my friend was moving and she told me I HAD TO GO. Well I finally made my appointment and took the dive. When you first meet Melissa, it's like you have already met her. She is so easy going, and loves conversations (or so i hope so, cuz i talked a whole lot. ) She definitely makes you feel comfortable and engages in your convos. Before you even get started, she send you home with aftercare for first time clients. She shows you step by step what is needed at home and why hair grows the way it does. So it's time to get down n dirty... She makes you STRIPP down but provides you a small towel to cover yourself as you are getting comfortable. She then goes over step by step what is going to be done and when it is being done. She has this great technique when pulling the strips. She doesn't do big strips from what ive been told from people who get it done. As she is pulling the strips, she makes you exhale really hard. Throughout the entire process, she kept on checking in to make sure you were not in pain and as relaxed as possible. In honesty, Im not sure why I haven't gone in sooner. The pain was super tolerable. She tweezes the rest of the stubborn hairs that did not make it. The entire process took a total of 30 mins including the consult and step by step. From what I've been told, she is a little bit pricier than other places, but she is definitely worth the price She is just the sweetest. Seriously not exaggerating !!!! COME SEE MELISSA. All the five-star reviews on here are legit. I just got my Brazilian wax this morning and as everyone else has said, Melissa is amazing: super nice, friendly, welcoming personality that puts me at ease, and very knowledgeable and informative. Let's start with this: I've never gotten anything waxed before. So OBVIOUSLY the most reasonable thing to do is get a Brazilian as my first wax. Right? :P The pain was very tolerable for me. I didn't take any painkillers beforehand, and the waxing felt about the same as a moderate slap on the mons pubis. Just smack the meaty part a few times and that's what it feels like (at least to me). Definitely a lot less painful than I expected, which is good! The pain in my hip joints from keeping my legs spread was probably worse than the wax (I'm terribly inflexible and have bad joints). Hahaha Important Note: I grew out my hair for about 3 weeks before getting the wax, and she actually recommends 4+ weeks or at the very least 1/2 an inch because hair grows in cycles and if you don't wait long enough, there are some hairs that are just starting to grow underneath the longer hairs. She told me that this wax won't get me super smooth because I'll have tiny hairs that are just growing, and asked me if that's okay. I didn't mind since I was already there and just wanted to get it over with, but it's good that she informed me beforehand. Sooo I have little specks of hairs popping up amongst the super smooth skin. I had been searching for a new wax place in Milpitas for awhile now and found Mac's Strips via Yelp. Melissa is a one woman show and is amazing at what she does. As soon as you walk in for your appointment, she makes you feel comfortable and strikes up great conversation to make you feel as if you had been friends with her for years. Melissa is the Brazilian wax queen! She makes the Brazilian wax feel (almost) painless. She teaches you a variety of breathing techniques that really help with the pain. She is very gentle and wants to make sure you are comfortable every step of the way. I highly recommend going to Melissa if it is your first wax. Afterwards, she gives you a post wax kit and educates you on how to prevent ingrown hairs and irritation. It was easily the best wax I have ever had! I also got an eyebrow wax and wow my eyebrows have not looked this good in a long time. She will wax and tweeze your brows until they look perfect. Her pricing is super reasonable. For first time Brazilian waxes, it is $60, but for repeat customers it is only $50, which is actually cheaper than the place I was going to. Her eyebrow waxes are $20. Booking with her is really simple. You can schedule via text or online. She is very responsive via text. She is very busy, but she will try to squeeze you in whenever possible. If you're new, she will take her time with the wax and do slow breathing techniques with you so that it doesn't hurt as much. She really cares about her clients, because she seems to remember small details about my life that I've told her a while ago and will strike good conversation with you! For my first Brazilian, I wanted it to be affordable and with someone who would be gentle. I choose correctly. Did my homework online, wore a dress to the appointment, took 2 Tylenol and was ready for the unknown. Melissa is located inside Jenny's Salon, she has a private room in the back. Uses hard wax, which I hear is better for first timers like myself. So the pain factor???? Well, I didn't scream because she has a breathing technique you work in as the process goes down. Helps keep your mind occupied. I was super scared beforehand, but I survived and think I can do this again. It only hurt like 2 strips out of what 10 strips? I got my first wax with Melissa and she is amazing! I moved to San Diego since then so I've had to try out other places and they don't even come close to her. She told me how to breathe and what to do with my body and she timed the "pulls" with my breathing. Other places I've been to just expect you to be able to hold still through the pull but she understood that it was my first time so she helped hold me down since it was a little hard for me (I have a low pain tolerance lol). She also gave me an aftercare kit with an exfoliating cloth and antibacterial soap and told me it was included in the price which was nice since I wasn't expecting that. I had my first wax appointment with Melissa, and she was awesome! I felt comfortable the minute I walked into her cute salon. I will say I did get a little bit lost finding the shop because it blended in with the residential homes! Just listen to your GPS, and enter the residential area and there's a little parking spot designated for the retail shops tucked nicely around the corner. I got the first time Brazilian wax, which was $60 and she included a goody bag that had a Japanese wash cloth, a full sized acne wash bottle, and a pack of 25 pre-moistened acne wipes. She quickly went over how to do proper after care in order to avoid in grown hairs (which i'm sure we all absolutely hate!) I was super impressed with how great she was at explaining, and how comfortable I felt around her. The actual wax was great. I didn't feel pain, she was quick with her hands, and applied the right amount of pressure after each strip was pulled. I really don't think I could as for a more pleasant wax experience than the one I had today. Yes, there was some minute moments of pain, but Melissa taught me how to do breathing techniques that helped a TON. When I looked at Yelp and found Melissa, I thought there could be NO WAY a Brazilian Waxer could have 5 stars and hundreds of reviews. After seeing posts about how much she cares for her first-time clients (even giving them a hair care goodie bag and refusing first-timer tips), I decided to try her out. Waxing isn't pleasant, but Melissa makes it nearly painless by introducing breathing techniques and effectively talking to you about other (more fun/personal things) through each strip. As far as technique, her setup is very clean. No double-dipping and uses hard wax. She is truly invested in making sure the area is as hairless as possible.
