I made a super last minute (literally 1.5 hours before my appointment) hair appointment with Tilly…read morevia their online appointment app. I called just to confirm my appointment was okay, and was met with the sweetest girl (I believe her name was Ryan/Riann)? On my way there she texted directions and stood outside to find me, which was a much appreciated gesture since Old Town can be so confusing! The salon itself is so cute!! I met with Tilly inside the salon who I would now trust with my life with my hair! Initially I wanted to get some light pieces through my hair, but I've truly put my fine thin hair through the gamut in the past year (bleaching/lightening my hair previously, then dumping dark box dye). She did a strand test and demonstrated how my would basically snap. She didn't feel comfortable proceeding in lightening my hair, which I feel speaks to her standing by her craft, and not necessarily trying to make a quick buck. I can't say I was surprised when I heard the news, and though it wasn't initially what I had anticipated, we worked through some options and she suggested low lights and a hair masque since it was dimension that I was looking for. The head massage was heavenly!! When Tilly turned the chair around to unveil my hair, I was so pleasantly surprised! I didn't think a few lowlights would make a big difference, but it gave my hair life again. Whatever magic she worked on my hair also made it feel so much healthier at home! It's been 2 weeks since my appointment and I've notice my comb going through my hair way more easily, with less breakage stuck in my comb. The pricing was also extremely fair. I'll be back for my future hair needs!

The yelp community helped me find Lynn at Harstra Salon. She really did a great job with my…read morehigh/low lights and cutting my very grown out hair. I hadn't found a salon since moving here and was desperate! Lynn was very accommodating and requested pictures of when I liked my hair and what it looks like now so she could think about how to approach the color and cut. I also asked for some pink highlights which I think maybe she was a bit scared about adding so they are not quite as vibrant as I had hoped but overall I was really pleased with the color and the cut was really good too as it is not always easy to cut curly hair. It is a bit out in the middle of nowhere "north" Scottsdale. It is in a strip mall next to AJs Fine Foods and there is plenty of parking. Lynn was able to get me in on a Saturday late afternoon. The salon was very clean but there was not another person there besides the two of us -- so not much of a vibe but again the outcome was the most important to me. I will likely go back because it is too hard to find someone and establish that relationship. She is also very funny and easy to talk to so that is always a plus when you are sitting in a chair for three hours.

My hair is dark brown but I have gotten highlights successfully at Carolynes before and have been very happy with be results. I went in yesterday for some highlights and a trim. The lady messed up my hair so badly that she asked me to come back today so she could fix it. I spent a total of 8 hours at that salon and she still could not fix my hair. The horrible receptionist at the front told me it was not the hair dressers fault because since I am pregnant my hormones change my hair and it is essentially my fault and there is nothing more they could do. As I was walking out of the salon another hair dresser says "it's not that bad". Wow. That's what I want to hear! I am so disappointed. Especially after she still Charged me $60.00 for the trim! Now I am a pretty understanding person and I appreciate her trying to make it right the next day. She's only human and we don't always get it right... I get it. But I walked out of that salon after 8 hours with damaged hair that looks worse than when I initially went in. Now I need to go somewhere else and have them fix my 60.00 mistake. I will not be back there again. I am incredibly disappointed. Do your research and know what your stylist can and cannot do before you go.

She is so creative and knows what will look awesome-just trust her. She'll suggest colors and patterns for you if you don't know what you want, and if you have a crazy idea she can probably do it. And she's great at incorporating rhinestones into stuff!! I am so loyal to her nail art that even though I live in NYC, land of the man/pedi combos, I almost never get my nails done here because I'd rather wait the six months until I make my semi-annual visit home to AZ. Her toenail paintings seem to last forever! Some of my favorites are watermelons (great for summer!), American Flag (complete with rhinestones, a 4th of July fave), zebra stripes, tuxedos (SO cute for formal events! and she does whatever color combo you want), and team spirit/school colors (she even begrudgingly painted my toes with U of A spirit despite her ASU allegiance!). I'm attaching a few pics of toenail art I've had done here to show just what a fabulous job Jen does. I have friends who have seen other stylists there (whose names I can't remember off the top of my head) that they love, and the place is pretty big and spacious, so there are plenty of stylists to choose from! With regards to the comments on the front desk people, I understand...but we're in Scottsdale. Come on. The owner and her daughter have always been nice to me and my fam, possibly because we've been there with them for so long, but I've seen the way they act around other people and it's not anything out of the ordinary for this town. It's definitely not the worst I've seen, but just suck it up-you're in a salon in the land of pretentiousness. You'll walk out of there as gorgeous as the rest of the city and you'll forget the front desk people five minutes later anyway. Moral of the story: GO SEE JEN!!!!
