Since a new restaurant in town is always welcome, I ate lunch here today with a friend. The service was good. The newly remodeled seating area was nice & bright. I prefer to eat outside but it was a bit too warm. We both ordered the Tri-tip salad. There was a measly 2-3 ounces of steak which was delicious, thinly sliced & tender. My only complaint is how small their portions are. I don't have a big appetite but could easily have eaten 2 entire salads. Luckily it was only lunch & not dinner. I booked a reservation on a Tuesday for Friday night at 8pm. On the very Friday they texted me to say they would only be serving us burgers. Now had to scramble to make other plans at last minute. When I said I would have appreciated knowing g a bit sooner there reply was no problem we will cancel your reservation. They could care less . I have been to the Branding Iron twice since it opened. Both times the food was good and so was the service. Ambiance is okay. The AC seems to blow right down on the tables making it a bit chilly. My only suggestion as far as the food would be to work on the salad. Iceberg lettuce with some croutons is in the past. Green lettuce would be a plus. Other than that, very enjoyable. Pros: -Ribeye steak was cooked well and a generous portion at a decent price. Cons: -The service we experienced was some of the worst we've had in a long time. The table we sat at outside was wobbling a lot so we asked if we can get something to stabilize it, our waitress kept forgetting so we had to keep asking and eventually had to just ask someone else. -When our entrees came, our sides were also forgotten,and again, had to ask a different waitress to check the status of them. It didn't come out until we were halfway through our meal already. -The water somehow tasted like dirty dish water that we ended up having to ask for a different beverage. I'm not sure if they're even washing their dishes properly at this point. -There were a lot of flies in their outdoor seating area and kept landing on the food incessantly. -Tipping felt forced, they hover in front of you staring and waiting when it came time to pay. Whole experience was great for the first day open. Outside patio was nice and mellow. Food was excellent. Suggestion the Brussels sprouts appetizer was awesome with bacon, smoked, and Parmesan cheese. Display of food was on point with neat little touches to the meals. Country music playing. It was definitely nice for a relaxed dinning experience. Service was great with experienced staff. Sat outside and it seemed to bring more people in. I think not a lot of people knew it was open. We ate here this past weekend for lunch. First off you are paying the same price for a steak lunch as dinner except you only get fries. For some reason if you want any other side you have to wait until 5pm. The salad was super small and the soup was just warm. Service was good, but we were given the wrong steak. Jenny and her husband just opened up their wonderful Branding Iron Saloon and Steakhouse not too long ago. The owner, Jenny, served us and she was gracious and delightful! Went there last night for dinner. It seems like a lot of the negative reviews were left when the restaurant first opened and they have the kinks ironed out now.. We stumbled into opening night and were so impressed by the atmosphere, drinks, service, and the food. We were told that the owners used to own Baldi's in Copper, which we loved. Highly recommend. A five star type of opening night is rare for a new restaurant and this was one is more than deserved! Really good. And our server, Dakota, was so on top of things and sweet. Had birthday dinner here last night. Everything was delicious. Ended up sitting at the bar because its cozy and the bartender is fantastic. The french onion soup is really good. Husband's filet and lobster tail and giant twiced baked potato perfect. I tried the artichoke chicken based on a recommendation and loved it. Green beans were outstanding. Got a piece of chocolate cake to go and wow it was great too. We have been here for lunch a few times too. Always good food and great service. Try the gravy fries and french dip. Very happy to finally have a true steakhouse in town. Don't miss out on this place. Also, if you are local, seeing the old Nugget aka "Club Nuget' " transformation to this new restaurant is nostalgic remodel is very nice. A nice new addition to downtown Murphys. Friendly staff/owner. I finally got around to trying the restaurant and I ordered the crab sandwich. Unfortunately, it was drenched in mayo and very messy. It could have used more flavor as well. The fries were a little undercooked. The best part was the crunchy sourdough it was on. Dropped in without a reservation and we were seated immediately and cheerfully. The greeter and the waitress both were attentive and polite. The staff was quick: we arrived, placed our order, ate and were out the door in less than an hour. The ambience is much improved from the old place that was here, but not fancy. A nice small bar and tables inside(it was winter). The place is clean and efficient, but noisy. Even in the dining area two rooms away we could hear the football game and on top of that was a form of canned muzak that seemed to add to the noise of patrons instead of mask it. Suggestion: invest in some acoustical tile for the ceiling, which is flat and hard surfaced and add some hangings to the walls that are not solid windows. If you must have music, provide quiet dinner music. The menu offered a variety of choices. I like that fact that even at dinner the lunch offerings are still available. It is primarily a steak house, but has other good items. My wife had the fish a chips. It was served nice and warm, with tender white fish in a non-greasy batter. A side of french fries was better than average. I had the steak special, which was cooked just right, moist and tasty. Mushroom caps were good but a bit salty/vinigary, with a side of French Onion soup (slight upcharge) which was good but not quite excellent. Bread was fresh and warm. The food came quickly and was hot when it hit the table. We had drinks elsewhere and skipped desert, but were happy with our meal and the experience. Price was about average for Murphys (a tourist town). The bill was about $50 plus tip. A good meal for cold winter night. We will go back. read more

Wow- Yesterday we were out and about with friends having a relaxing but fun day. After a stop at a winery on highway 4. Which was a great time we decided to go downtown murphys to maybe hit another winery. We pulled onto main street and decided to grab a bite to eat. We decided to drop in the new restaurant. We entered with caution as the sigh indicated be patient we are new. The place is charming and clean. We were seated at a very nice table and our server was extremely friendly. Our party of four ended up ordering different dishes which turned out to to be awesome as we're sharing a bite of each dish. Every dish was above our expectations and quite lovely. 1- bone in pork chop with asparagus and french onion soup- the french onion soup was a huge wow! The pork chop was extremely tasty and had a very nice gravy/sauce, 2- fish and chips - huge piece of fish with perfect batter- even the tarter sauce was great, 3- no bean chili- very yummy it was listed at spicy (one of the 4 of us does not due spice well) but the three that like spice loved it.) 4-the tri tip french dip was off the chart yummy! We will be back soon and recommend any that is thinking of going there....just do it! As far as the sign up front to be patient.. our experiences says the sign can come down! Went for the first time tonight. the place is small but stylish since the complete remodel. The bar was lively. This, along with the tables inside, made the restaurant very noisy, sitting outside on the street is your only other option, which might be preferable on a very busy night. Service was fast and friendly, the drinks were reasonable. The fried green bean appetizer was good, with a spicy dipping sauce, although there could've been more. The French onion soup was good, the salad was fine, it was cold and crisp. the steaks were good, cooked to order and came with potato of your choice. Dessert was also good, and enough to share. We had the crème brûlée and cheesecake. I think the wait staff was the stand out, then the steak. I hope they can keep the momentum going, and the quality. On Sunday, August 31, we visited the Branding Iron in Murphys California. It's a new restaurant. It's our first time there, apparently it's just opened. Their service rep not friendly at the front door. The waitress at our table very friendly. Regarding the food, It was embarrassing compared to their pricing l. The first thing that we were presented was a salad. It was a JOKE. It might have had three bites - doubtful, maybe looks like there was more dressing than salad. The guys ordered steak. They were not allowed to have a baked potato because it was the wrong time of day. For a steakhouse you would think you could have a potato with your steak. The dessert was frozen l. I was so looking forward to enjoying a new restaurant in Murphys. Sadly no longer. The mediocre service doesn't support the high prices, with $65 lobster and more. The reservation system is very unforgiving and confusing to the staff as well as customers. It will automatically seat a 2-person reservation requesting the "booth room" next to the bathroom, as opposed to a window table which is what we want. Jen, owner, instructed us to mention any desired table in the reservation comment box, but the staff apparently never sees the comment box and can do nothing about it anyway, because the reservation system has already filled the tables as it pleases. Our first encounter with Jen was poor as she rudely berated my husband for poking his head in the door to see the new construction. Our 2 attempts at dining there both including table reservation mix ups and unhappy words. Next day, the owner, Jen, sought out my cell phone and sent me a berrage of hateful text messages - this went on for more than 10 minutes until I put a block on her number. Her level of anger is concerning and scary. Surely a restaurant owner cannot treat customers this way and remain in business. read more
