I did my 60,000 mile routine maintenance. Along the way that the front brakes were also an issue, but under warranty. I received my car. It was clean and was running well.... Until I got about 5 miles away from the dealership. The car started to run rough lit up like a Christmas tree. I called the dealership to inform them what was going on and they asked me if I make it back. I said yeah, but it will be close to closing time. Service advisor said no problem. We recently took our Outback for service and they recommended the 60k service and quoted us MORE THAN $3,000. I'm sorry, what? This is our second Outback so we knew that price was absurd. I called Ewing in Plano and the quote for the same service was less than half (actually, just above a 3rd of the cost). There was nothing wrong with the car- in fact, they hadn't even looked at the car. This is absolute price gouging. I get you have a fancy new facility but we don't care about that. This review is about Brandon Tomes Subaru's newly installed policy of charging a 3% service fee for all credit/debit card transactions. I went for an oil change on June 12th. I was greeted promptly by the advisor and got my oil change done. The problem was when I got to the cashier, I was told that if paying by credit card, they charge a 3% service fee! Can you please be upfront and tell customers that from the very beginning? Maybe put signs on your windows by the service advisors desk? If I had agreed to the recommended service for 60k miles that costs $1600 that would have been an extra $48 dollars!! I have been going there for three years since I purchased my vehicle there and this is the first time I have been unhappy. Please do better with communicating this to the customer. I'm not one to post reviews because well I rarely encounter bad services. But felt like I had to this time because I felt like I got blindsided. I wrote this review first on Google. TLDR: they scammed me charging more than what was quoted and agreed upon A couple weeks ago I went for an oil change & tire rotation special that was offered on the Subaru app ($79.95). This is my first time at the new location in McKinney. I had came in in place of my husband. This is important to note because the offer was only offered on his Subaru app account (military discount), as opposed to mine where it was $89.95. And I did mention that when I checked in and had given the guy my phone to show the screenshot proof of the price. He acknowledged that and confirmed it on his computer screen. I confirmed again told him to do the oil change and tire rotation ONLY, nothing more nothing less, as that's what the offer was on. He acknowledged, told me should be about an hour or so and directed me to the waiting room. Everything was great. Nice workers, nice waiting area (lots of variety of drinks and snacks), and overall good atmosphere. So far the best Subaru dealership waiting room I've been in. The high review ratings makes sense. Until I received my bill. I was quoted $95.38. ??? Now, I was expecting $79.95 + tax (which I assume would be around 6%-8%). So I was expecting to pay around mid $80s. Even if the tax was somehow in the double digits, it still wouldn't hit $90s. I read through the itemized charges and there it was, a "miscellaneous charge" of $9.83. Total tax was $5.60 by the way. I asked the guy what's this charge for because we both had agreed in the beginning about the price and the services that's supposed to be done. And he just kinda rambled something about labor cost blah blah blah, honestly I didn't grasp what he was trying to say cause it just didn't make sense. I tried to argue the cost but honestly I'm not one to do that to begin with and I know I could always dispute it with my credit card if they wrongfully charged me. I just shook my head and paid what they charged me because I really wasn't about to be arguing over there as there were other people, and I'm just not one to make a scene. Also because I have another appointment to get to and really didn't have the leisure time. So that's it. Payment posted on my credit card and I've just disputed it. I sent the proof and screenshots for their review. My husband mentioned that he hoped this doesn't negatively impact our relationship with the dealership since it's the closest Subaru to our place. I just told him if they were professionals then it wouldn't have an impact whatsoever on future services. Even if it does, well I guess we'll just have to drive to another Subaru location even though it's farther away. I don't even think I would come back to this dealership again just because of this one experience. Which is sad. Even if they acknowledge their mistake, I mean I probably would have a flagged note on my account in their system that this negative situation happened. And I don't want any special treatments. LOL. I really just wanted them to be honest. If they did extra services, at least ask me and let me know beforehand, BEFORE I get charged extra than what I came there to do. Update: dealership tried calling my husband and emailing him after I've posted the Google review. They're always calling him when he's at work lol. A Disappointing Experience with Brandon Tomes Subaru I've been a loyal customer of this dealership for over a decade. Over the years, I've purchased four STIs, three Crosstreks for my wife, and two WRXs for my mom--all through Zach back at the old location. Unfortunately, ever since the dealership changed ownership and moved to the new location, the focus has shifted from exceptional customer service to prioritizing unnecessary charges over customer well-being. Recently, my 2021 STI displayed a check engine light for the oil pressure control valve. I also needed an oil change, but I found it unusual for this specific light to appear--especially since I've owned four STIs. Using my own Accessport, I read the code myself and requested the technician, Rick, to change the oil first and see if the code remained before proceeding with any diagnostics. To my surprise, Rick insisted on performing a diagnostic right away, which I knew wasn't standard procedure. Trusting his expertise with STIs (a mistake on my part), I agreed, thinking he would have my best interest at heart by doing the oil change first and seeing if the light went away. Instead, Rick ran the diagnostic first, only to discover that the check engine light cleared after draining the oil. Essentially, my initial request--to change the oil first--would have resolved the issue without an unnecessary $225 diagnostic fee. When I asked why he didn't follow my request to change the oil first, Rick claimed that our conversation had been different and insisted that running the diagnostic first was "procedure." This explanation baffled me since I had explicitly requested the oil change first. The process felt like a failure of basic logic: why charge for a diagnostic when a simple oil change, which I already needed, could have resolved the issue? To make matters worse, I spoke to the service manager, who initially seemed to be understanding and willing to resolve the situation. However, she ultimately failed to follow up, leaving me with no resolution and stuck paying for an unnecessary service. This experience highlights the stark contrast between the current team and the old one, led by Zach. Zach and his team not only understood the intricacies of STIs but also prioritized customer satisfaction. I have no doubt Zach would have supported my argument and resolved the issue without charging me unnecessarily. It's disappointing to see how this dealership has changed. I've supported this business for over a decade, yet they let $225, and a lack of common sense cost them a loyal customer. I won't be returning, and I will be sharing this experience with the STI community online and at local car meets to ensure others are aware of this shift in service standards. Contacted the salesman to get the item that was paid for and not received. salesman said ill have it for you to pick up. Drive 20 min up there to retrieve he is not there, but the incompetent saleswoman was no help at all. she went to the mangers behind the glass 2x and would come back reporting they know nothing. I explain what the cheap overpriced item is for who and what vehicle and they want phone numbers and proof of a cheap item. Managers never came out from behind the glass to speak to me and then when contacted via phone giggled at the situation and said patience is a virtue. Disrespectful to a customer that should of had it in the car to begin with, and should of tried to make things right with a cheap item fix. Do not purchase a vehicle from here. My service advisor was Marcus Adkins who was polite, however my husband and I didn't understand what he told us over the phone, verses what he did when I arrived at the dealership. I was told by an auto repair company that my Subaru didn't pass the emission inspection because of a faulty gas cap. When I got home and told my husband about failing the inspection, he didn't buy it. He called the dealership and spoke to Marcus who told him to bring the car right over and they would quickly check the gas cap before the service department officially opened at 8:30 am. I got their at 8:25. Marcus asked me if I'd like to car washed at no charge and I said sure. An hour or so later I was wondering why it took so long to check the gas cap and wash my car, besides that I was freezing in their showroom and I wanted my sweater out of the car which Marcus was kind enough to get for me. When he brought the car up a few minutes later I was expecting to just drive away. That's when I found out they did a complete inspection and I owned them $18. Marcus also shared with me that the inspector found my battery was bad and I needed new rear break pads to the tune of over $800! I told him I'd need to speak with my husband before authorizing such a large repairs. When I got home, my husband told me the battery in that car was only 1 year old and it would still be under warranty. He took it to a completely different location and the battery was fully charged with no problems. It's becoming harder and harder to know who you can trust these days. Very disappointing. The companies that perform vehicle inspections own the emissions testing equipment in Texas.Vehicle emissions testing in Texas is managed by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), but the state does not own or supply the equipment. Instead, certified inspection stations (privately owned companies) must acquire certified On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) analyzers from approved manufacturers, such as Environmental Systems Products Inc. or Worldwide Environmental Products. These stations can purchase the equipment outright or rent it, including options for extended service contracts and maintenance. The state certifies the analyzers and oversees calibration, but ownership and operational costs fall on the inspection companies. This setup aligns with Texas regulations under the Texas Administrative Code, Title 37, which require stations to maintain compliant equipment. It is the responsibility of the company that does the inspections to maintain them as well, not the state. read more

I opted to pick it up since it's not that far from me. It was pouring rain when I arrived and when the reception gave me the plate number Stone saw it and offered to put the plate in my car . He didn't have to do it ( he was not even my sales person), but he was very kind and anticipated my needs. He was almost drenched after since my car was not park in a shaded area. The process of buying a used Subaru here was awful. It was December 2024 and I was buying a 2024 Subaru with 7,000 miles on it. This car in particular was not running when they went to bring it around because rats/mice had chewed through wires in the engine, some of which the salesman tried attributing to other things. This worried me, but there was not much issue with them fixing that, aside from the time it was in the shop for--originally estimated to be a week--alongside my request to remove the pinstripes if possible. I agreed to the car IF all repairs were done to a defined satisfactory level per the signed contract. Here is where it took a bit of a turn. After handing them a check for $10,000, they ghosted me for two weeks. The (presumably very young) salesman had no mind to follow up with me, so I persisted to call the office and try to get updates. When I finally heard back, I was told by him that it had all the repairs done, and he asked when I wanted to get it. I reminded him for the 4th time about the pinstripes, and he said he would "send it to Detail to get the stripes removed". I called back a week later to check in, and was told it was now ready and he could deliver it (per our agreement). When the car arrived, it had a scratch & dent in the passenger door! It's a white car, so this knick was black and noticeable--and it also STILL had the pinstripes (which I had to point out to him... If those weren't able to be removed, I should have been told that). I also told the manager ALL of this, to which I was told he would call me the next day, and he DID NOT. And here's another kicker--After driving the car for ONLY 1 week, the back right tire rapidly started losing air, and it turns out it had 3 old nails in it and 3 GHETTO PATCH JOBS. ALL 4 tires are nearly in need of replacement according to the tire place, and one of the tires was FROM 2019. So I had to pay A LOT of money unexpectedly for new tires on a car that I was told had the original tires!! Long story short, this place did NOT follow up, did NOT provide a quality vehicle, did NOT deliver it without harm, and overall did NOT meet my expectations for Subaru. read more

Had a decent experience buying our daughter's car here a few months ago, so when I needed a new vehicle we went here first. Found a car that we liked and negotiated on the price. When we agreed to a price that worked they showed us a final print out with an added $1800 for additions to the car we didn't want. The finance person we talked to was not personable at all, and told us they add that to all the vehicles and we had to pay the $1800 and would not negotiate on the price anymore. We walked out and I ended up have a fabulous experience with prosper ford, getting an even nicer car for less than they would negotiate. Well guess what? The technician had left for the day well before 5 when they close, Okay its Saturday no problem, but tell me it's broken, my problem and then not document it on the paperwork. Today I visited the dealership for assistance on updating my Navigation system. Having done it before I knew how to do it but could not access WIFi. Out of frustration I thought I could tie into the dealers Customer WiFi. No problem the Service Advisor said. No password was required she said. I pulled over to the parking lot and found there was NO access to the Customer WiF, only to the site used for Employees. I went back into Service, explained what was happening and of the 3 people who were standing together NONE of-them had a clue what to do. This after one of their fellow worker, who was no longer visible, told me what to do and that did not work. I was told to go into the Customer Waiting area and ask someone. "Who?" I stupidly asked. They did not know. I then went to the new car Sales area and only one person even looked up or asked if I i needed help. Her name was Keisha and while she didn't know the answer either, took it upon herself to go with e to my car and help me finally get connected to the Emploloyee site and successfully download the Navigation System update. Dear Sir: On Thursday, 28 March 2025, my 2015 Subaru Forester Premium with 122,000 miles (apx.) refused to shift into gear. I had the vehicle towed to Brandon Tomes Subaru of McKinney, Texas (where my family has purchased 3 vehicles in the part 10 1/2 years) and left it with Dylon Fortier. On Friday, 29 March 2025, Mr. Fortier advised me to call and obtain a Case Number (250328-50024 from "Dorn"). The following week, I was contacted by Dominic Byrd, Sales, with the following text "$6,000 if you sold it,$7,000 if you traded". I NEVER heard anything regarding listed Case Number. I decided to sell and met with Eric Williams, Trade Up Advantage Manager and Justin Bucher, Sales Manager. They stated they would NOT honor the texted quote and offered me $500.00 instead. Needless to say, this was quite upsetting. It left me without a vehicle for over 2 weeks and it took 2 1/2 weeks just to receive the check. Not only will I NEVER set foot in that dealership again, I WILL NEVER PURCHASE OR RECOMMEND ANOTHER SUBARU VEHICLE! In contrast, I reached out to Sewell Infinity of Dallas on Wednesday, 16 April 2025 concerning a BMW X3 sDrive30i. I test drove said vehicle on Thursday, 17, April 2025 and purchased it (CASH) on a handshake. They explained that it would be into the following week before it would be ready. They outfitted it with BMW X3 All Weather Matts front, back and rear cargo area at no cost to me! They provided a 2025 Infinity QX60 with full tank of gas and toll tag until my vehicle could be delivered TO MY HOME! As you can see, the contrast between Dealerships and Services is astronomical.
