My husband and I have now visited this restaurant twice and both times the food and customer service was beyond excellent. The owner and his wife had even remembered that I liked certain things when we had only been there once! There take on customer service is how restaurants should all be, not to mention I couldn't get over how the food was soooo good! Great place to eat...the beef dish is absolutely amazing! Its tender and taste's like real Mediterranean food...the chicken is ok, I had both so the beef defiantly overshadowed the chicken. I had a groupon and came alone and the owner force me to get to entree's...that is bad customer service, if he didn't do that, i'd probably come back a few times a month...most owners don't care about the groupon as long as you spend the $$...but this guy is one of those cheap, penny pinching type owners...good food, CS not that great....but I will return to try the beef again. read more

Wow, totally disappointed! Falafel was fried in rancid oil, and the stuffed grape leaves were actually filled with greasy ground beef, served hot-- I gagged...maybe someone likes it that way, but I prefer cold vegetarian style. My husband and I have been avid Bravo Avo fans since 2006 when they were located in Huntington Beach. Their food is beyond amazing. Our favorite dishes are the Chicken a la Avo, the braised lamb shank dish, and the Gyro Plate. This is also where we fell in love with Geek wine, particularly a retsina called Malamatina. The food is always fresh, always consistently fantastic, and Avo is the consummate restauranteur. Not sure what the rave is. Had the Chicken a la Avo plate. No feta cheese on a Greek salad? Boring flavor and paid for extra veggies ...and barely got any. Out the door $17 with drink!!! I went to the bank next door to this place and said to myself I am hungry and as I walked to Pick Up Stix, I noticed this place and being that I love Gyros, I decided to give them a try. The cashier was nice and the lady that came from the kitchen was pleasant too. I ordered a Gyro sandwich with extra tatsiki. She said oh, we will put it on the side, I said no, you can put it on the sandwich so when I got my order, of course it the sauce was on the side and it didn't taste like tatsiki at all, it taste like sour cream no cucumber in sight. I'm not sure how anyone can give this place less than 5 stars let alone say Avo isn't the friendliest guy ever. One of my favorite restaurants. My wife and I have passed by for many months always planning to go there. One day last month, we finally tried eating here. We immediately regretted not going earlier. The food is amazing. I can't remember what we had the first time but it immediately went into our rotation. Last week, the night before my wedding, my brother offered to take me to any restaurant I wanted. This place was my first choice. We started with a glass of the house wine and it was nice. The appetizer of beef stuffed grape leaves were delicious and my entre of the special lamb shank was amazing. I cannot rave about that dish enough. First I must say the portion was perfect sized. It seemed a bit small of a portion when it came out but the meat fell off the bone and the sauce was so rich and flavorful that I was ready to pick the bone clean. I actually did when nobody was looking. The sauce was this glaze that just brought out the flavors of the lamb. Avo outdid himself here. The veggies were roasted and perfect. Contrary to my original evaluation of the portion size, I left full and happy. Granted, I would eat every lamb shank in the restaurant and ask for more, but this was perfect just how it is. I have dietary restrictions and Avo and his lovely wife happily accommodated. Avo talked to us, he really has a pleasant sense of humor. Thanks for giving us happy culinary memories Avo! I ordered the chicken gyro and it came loaded with lettuce and zucchini and very little chicken. And I mean very little! There was no feta or yogurt sauce or anything spectacular to liven my gyro up. I added fries and thank goodness because the gyro was just plain BORING. I had to ask for ketchup and was given only 2 small packets. Way overpriced nearly $14! I will not return. Also when I asked about their spicy feta dip, I was told the price was just for the dip and not the pita bread. Okay no. To put it simply this place sucks. There's average food, and then there's bad food, and this was bad. For close to $10 I expect more than wilted lettuce smothered in bottled Italian dressing, rice that seems like it's been reheated with dehydrated carrots, and a few shavings of gyro meat. First time there. Ordered the mediterranean salad to go and the falafel sandwich. The salad is horrible, very small for the price. The lettuce had lots of hearts in it( or whatever you call the center between the leaves) but worst of all it was dripping balsamic vinager to the point that my whole offices smells. This place is really good! I've had the gyros, which I haven't found a place that serves them better near my house. I will say, some of the reviews that say that the meat is 'oily or greasy' are right, it is a bit oily. But who really cares? its not like you're drinking the stuff, its moist and juicy and seasoned perfectly. The hummus is great and the spicy feta is my favorite!!! SOO GOOD! The house salad comes with an amazing light mustard type dressing and the grilled veggies have a similar sauce. The owner is always there, he's really nice and they serve beer, which I've never tried but my boyfriend likes it. Hmm... the Falafel I think is just ok, I'm not a huge fan of falafel in the first place but my friend LOVED them and my boyfriend didn't care too much about them, I would say they're a bit on the drier crispier side. Hmm.... what else??? Rice is good and pita is good... no complaints, I love coming here. Plus its just across the street from my house so its also convenient. As for the atmosphere, it's always been a bit slow in the evening when i go.
