My husband and I have enjoyed the food at Bravo Avo in Foothill Ranch for many years. We recently rediscovered this small restaurant and were happy to see that they survived Covid. Bravo Avo is currently undergoing a change in ownership and this most certainly has not effected their yummy menu. Today we had the Chicken ala Avo pita sandwich. This pita sandwich is packed full with sliced chicken breast, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, squash and a surprise dill pickle seasoned with their delicious Avo sauce. We had ours at a spiciness level of 5 out a 10. Just the right amount of kick. The new owners are very friendly so a definite plus. Now, here's the one thing that put me off. On each table there was a little stone plaque with a saying. These sayings tended to be about women. Not all bad but I found the one at my table and the one at the table next to me offensive. This is a mom and pop Mediterranean place. We stopped in for dinner and were seated in a small booth in this little restaurant. There are only a handful of tables as they seem to do more business with take-out orders. Avo himself came to our table and welcomed us, told us the specials and took our order. Avo's description of Greek sausage led me to order that special which came with two sides (I chose rice and green salad). I also tried a glass of Avo's house wine, a cabernet sauvignon, which was dry and smooth. While we awaited our entrees we were served incredibly delicious pita bread which would rival any bread basket in OC and was accompanied by a yogurt dipping sauce. The sausage was tasty and plenty of it was served on the plate. It was cooked with some thinly sliced red peppers and onions. Avo let me order the sausage spice level of my choice, 1-10. I chose level 2 (I'm a wimp) and it was exactly as expected. The rice was good as was the fresh salad; solid but nothing extraordinary. Baklava was the dessert of choice. Two pieces were presented and were crisp, flakey and honey-sweet. Yummy! I'm no expert when it comes to Mediterranean fare but I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. read more

I've been on a Greek food kick lately, or maybe it's just a gyro thing. Decided to try this place in Foothill Ranch based on all the positive Yelp reviews. I ordered online via Yelp shortly after 5pm. I didn't receive an email confirmation right away so I called to confirm they got it. The man on the phone confirmed that they did and then said, "see you soon, drive safely". What a sweet thing to say! I got a little lost on my way there (I'll blame that on Waze) so I called to ask what they're next to. He said "McDonald's, across from JoAnn's and CVS". So there are your landmarks, people. To be more specific, they're located right next door to a Pick Up Stix. There is plenty of parking available since they are located in a shopping center area. When I arrived, I saw the food sitting on the counter. The friendly lady smiled, then said hello, confirmed it was mine and said thank you as I picked it up. Since I ordered and paid for it via the Yelp app, all I had to do was pick it up. Easy breezy! My interaction lasted less than 10 seconds, but from her friendly smile and tone, I could tell she was very nice. There was a guy in the front on a laptop and I assumed it was the friendly guy I spoke to earlier. Now on to the food! I ordered the King combo which comes with gyro, chicken kabob, rice & salad, but I opted for all salad for $12.90. It also comes with salad dressing which is on the sweet side, yogurt and pita bread. I was amazed to see how much food there was! It may not look like much from the photo but there was a ton of gyro! The gyro was delicious with long strips, but it was somewhat greasy (greasier than others I've had at other places). The chicken was standard to me. Everything was very good, but not out of this world. My husband got the gyros wrap for $8.99. Upon first examination, it looked huge with a ton of gyros, which to me is a good thing, but he mentioned that he wished there was more lettuce & tomato to balance it out. Go figure! I would've loved all the gyro and less of the other stuff! His wrap also came with the yogurt sauce, which is delicious by the way. Our total meal came out to $23.64 including tax, which is decent for a dinner. I would give this place 4 stars overall. Definitely check them out if you're in the area! read more

The hours are as terrible as the food and the owner's attitude. I've tried this place a few times but stopped because they're never open. For instance, I stopped here at 3pm on a Thursday afternoon and it says they are open on Google Maps but the door is locked and there's nobody here. If you don't want people's business that's on you but don't waste people's time by saying online that you're open when you're not. While the food here was pretty good, I was just not a huge fan of the service and also felt that the food was too expensive for the portions that they serve. We had the avo combo, their largest lunch item, 3 meats, rice, pita and salad for $11. I would have liked a more sturdy plate then the flimsy paper plate, it was also very small and hard to eat the food off of. Same for both the chicken and beef bowls, very small and cheap cups, not worth the $8 price tag, more like $5. The yogurt sauce was excellent, the beef gyro ok and the chicken very dry and overcooked, but had a good flavor, guessing they reheat it. I would give the food 4 stars, the value and service a 2, which is a shame, I was really hoping to enjoy it more here. While they were not rude, you just really don't feel welcome here and that alone is reason enough to not want to return. read more

We were in the are to see a movie just a block or so away and decided to give this place a try.. Let's be clear on this... it is not bad but it's also not a wow experience. There was no action in the kitchen at all, no smells of kabobs cooking, no smoke just really quiet.... The iced tea which is next to soda machine had that nasty ring of tea foam inside it so we skipped getting drinks. The char on the onions on the kebabs were *chefs kiss*, the beef gyro was juicy and seasoned perfectly, the chicken was juicy and delicious. I've visited this place 2x now and both times it was stellar. My dept at work went for lunch here and my for my first try I tried the kabob sampler plate. It was delicious. I thought it could have been because I was famished so I went back with a friend and tried another dish that my coworker had been going on about. Lo and behold it blew me away. I had the lamb shank plate the 2nd time and it was SO flavorful. I enjoyed every bite. Previous lamb shanks I have had were just heavy and no flavor but this one was just delicious til the last bite and cooked to perfection. I just consumed a gyro sandwich and two pieces of baklava, and if I could, I'd eat an entire serving again! But the portions are generous and I came out of the restaurant overstuffed. Was missing Greek food and found this place! The gyro was just like in Athens. Didn't taste like any of that preserved/not fresh gyro from franchises (Luna Grill etc). The seasoning from Bravo Avo isn't overpowering and the meats taste fresh. I also had a bite of my husbands rib eye kabob (yum!!!). Their pita bread seems made in house and is absolutely delicious. Craving all of it now. Wanna know how authentic this place is?!?! They offer saganaki aaaaannnd offer a simple appetizer of feta and olives. Yuuuuuuuum! Ordering both the next time I dine in. 1st time visit. I wanted to try a few dishes but they are quite expensive so ended up with just a gyro sandwich to go and ate in my car right outside the store. Gyro sandwich is good and bigger than expected. It was filling but not big enough to justify the cost. Had a couple pickle slices on it which I found interesting. Can be easily removed if you don't like pickles although I'll never understand why someone wouldn't like pickles. Tzatziki sauce was good. I used the whole serving on my sandwich. Service is ok. No problems ordering. I asked for everything normally goes on it. Paid. Waited a reasonable amount of time. Got hot, fresh food to be eaten in the car. I kind of want to return to try other dishes but $12+ is too much for my budget for lunch. Gyro sandwich is probably 4 stars. Overall may be closer to two stars (I'll go if someone else really wants to go). I don't know if there are other nearby gyro places. I've had better in New Jersey for cheaper. read more

Not worth it, small portions at full prices and the food isn't even that good. Gyros was dry, hard and starting to curl up, clearly cut hours previously and left there until served to us. King combo is $17.49 and in addition to maybe a half cup of gyros the combo is a single skewer with 3 small pieces of chicken on it; probably 3oz at most before cooking; one of the pieces wasn't even choice breast meat, it was a hard and chewy off-cut. If we had been eating in, rather than takeout, this would have been sent back to the kitchen The salad side is also v. small, the salad dressing container is literally as big as the salad itself. The composition is mostly rough chopped iceberg with a few cucumber slices. The only thing you get in any great quantity is rice. It's 75% of your meal. The weight you feel lifting the bag, yeah that's the rice. The plump foil wrap with the meat peeking out, yeah move a few strips of gyros aside and it's all rice underneath ... So many better choices for Mediterranean - don't think this place is better or more authentic because it's not a big chain read more

Let me start by saying the owner is always there, and will test you like family every single time. I mean, this man does not have bad days. The food is amazing, flavor is authentic, and the kabobs were juicy (I'm Persian, I know a good kabob). My husband raves about the dolma and usually gets multiple kinds of meat. Serving sizes are large. Today, I couldn't decide between a profiterole and creme brûlée, and went with the profiterole. My husband came home with our order and said the owner threw in the brûlée as well so I could try both. He's an angel because he did not know I'm pregnant and this baby with take down both those desserts like a champ. (Btw the to-go desserts come in actual fancy glass cups). Support this business! BEST FALAFELS EVER!!!! The falafels are perfectly crisp and bursting with so much flavor. The inside is soo airy/fluffy and Mmmm, you just have to try it!! I order the falafel plate during lunch to-go and it comes with a bed of rice, fresh side salad + dressing, hummus and a pita bread. My boyfriend and I went to see hunger games tonight. Bought tickets 1.5 hours away and wanted to have dinner first. I found this place nearby on yelp. Hadn't had Greek in a long time and saw that Bravos looked pretty legit and authentic. This is a small mom and pop shop. It's not fancy but the food and service are superb. Prices are really fair for what you get also /thumbs up We sat at a booth and then Avo himself came to explain the menu. My bf and I both got king combos, I subbed chicken for a beef skewer though. Then we order the cold 4 appetizer which consisted of 4 dips: fire feta, cucumber sauce, roasted eggplant, and hummus. It came with freshly warmed pita that's slightly crispy too (simply amazing!). I typically don't like the eggplant dip, but the one here has changed my mind. I was eating it with a fork straight from the bowl. My fav was the fire feta, slightly spicy and creamy. The hummus here is well made and flavorful as well. As for the entrees, the gyro meat is awesome, the lamb kabob is also, and I didn't like the beef skewer but my bf did. Included dinner salad comes with a Dijon like dressing. The potatoes are garlicky and crispy, very delish. The service is great!! Avo himself and his wife serve you and they are mind readers :) brought us more pita before we asked for them as well as refilled drinks with a quickness. We were:-) The pita is worth mentioning. I've had pita a hundred times but this one was different. It was kind of crisp. Very good. I had to remove it so I didn't fill up before my entree came.
