    Picanha na Chapa so Alho
    Art C.

A friendly and likely authentic place We stopped in tonight for dinner. After reading the other review I already knew I wanted the steak, their Picanha na Chapa so Alho. It was a very good choice, a delicious steak sautéed with onion and garlic. The steak came with a platter of rice, veggies, French fries (I could have subbed yucca), and a bowl of black beans. I know little about Brazilian food but I liked it. Well, all except the beans, just my personal preferences. The place was fairly busy and most seemed to be friends with the staff. That tells me the community gives this place their vote. Service was friendly and fine.

What a diamond in the rough!

My oh my. This place is everything you could possibly want from a Brazilian restaurant. Given the fact that my wife is from Brazil I really count her opinion as a more valid one than my own. This place is pretty small, but it has the food and Brazilian products to make up for it. My wife and I ordered Picanha (essentially steak) which comes with rice, fries, and salad. The guy helping us offered to bring us beans as well. It was delicious! It was plenty to share between the two of us. We had Guarana to drink which is my absolute favorite soda ever. It's basically a better version of ginger ale. For dessert we had Brigadeiro and chocolate mousse. Both were phenomenal. Our bill came out to around $23 or so which was a great deal given the amount of food we got. We went back today and got a few snacks (esfirra, empada, and coxinha) and they were just as delicious as our food was a few days before. If I lived here I would be eating here every week with the result of gaining a few pounds I'm sure haha. If you're Brazilian, American, or whatever, you will love this place. The staff is incredibly friendly and won't make you feel out of place if you aren't Brazilian or don't speak Português. We've been here twice in the last week and will definitely be coming back here on our next trip to Florida. Keep up the fantastic work guys!

When I got there, my party was already seated and I had to wait for them to bring another table over. By that time, the meat service had already started, so I missed some of the rotation. I checked out the food bar, the black beans looked good but had pork sausage in them, so I couldn't eat that. When the meats came around, most were medium rare or rare, which is too pink for me. I asked for a different temp and one of the guys kinda caught an attitude when I said the piece he gave me had too much fat. It got awkward real quick as he told me there is no fat on the meat. Also asked for A1 and it took a while. Overall, it wasn't terrible. I had a good time because I was with family, but food-wise it didn't wow me. If I'm doing Brazilian steakhouse, I'd rather drive to Texas de Brazil. If you're in Sarasota and don't feel like driving, Rodizio Grill is cool... just not my first pick.

The restaurant itself is beautiful, loved the esthetics. The service was exceptional! My glass was always filled and I appreciated the attention. I wasn't too fond of the hot/cold salad bar. While the selection was large, the quality wasn't there. For instance, the meat in the fried rice was overcooked. The pork belly tasted as if it was sitting there for a while. Shrimp salad had good flavor but too many shells in the salad. Roasted garlic was still crunchy/not cooked through. Few of the signs were mislabeled. The bacon covered jalapeño poppers were labeled as brown sugar bacon. That completely took me by surprise because it was quite HOT! In conclusion, I was expecting the same level of attentiveness for the food selections as I received with the service.

I have no idea how they "get away" with charging such prices for their beef, chicken, lamb served with "sticky rice" (by the way on my trips to Brazil, I do not recall EVER getting lousy sticky rice - normally it is a Jasmine variety that is delicious and never sticky!) Also Black beans and a small assortment of side sauces that were decent. Oh and very soft Pao de Queso... one of my all time favorites, very much UNDERCOOKED - but I still liked it, due to the difference in cooking style. I have always had Pau de Queso well baked, with a hard crusty outer shell and a soft inner cheesy delightful center! Ani was the waitress, she is Cuban, while the remainder of the staff appears to be Brazilian, not sure, did not have the opportunity to ask. Ani worked her butt off, while the 4 others stood around watching. I hated that I had the sense of prejudice, maybe my "American" sensitivities were set off? I am a conservative, usually not looking for such BS, but this just seemed to be a bit obvious. Albeit the initial amount of people dining was 5 tables with an average of 4... she was able to do her job, but at the sacrifice of timely service to tables. The "ambiance" is fine, nothing truly distinguishes this as a Brazilian restaurant; I have been to Brazil 6 times, there restaurants do not really have anything distinguishable. Except the road side Churrasco - or those inside wayfaring gas stations... always loved those set ups! After sitting and being served for 1.5 hour, the people started to come in... and the place was full of families having a good meal! The other staff finally stepped up and did a good job! All of the staff were congenial, engaging and proactively serving, once the crowd showed up. Do I recommend this place? Yes, but only for an event where you seek a casual ambiance, decent food, pretty good service and you want a less expensive (albeit still expensive) alternative to the "high falooting" Brazilian Steakhouses like Rodizio or Texas de Brazil... those are off the charts!
