I was excited to grab something sweat after our dinner and didn't seem much was there at the time. An hour before closing, everything looked bare. I asked for a double espresso, which for the record is 2 oz. What I got was barely an ounce. I went over to the counter where this smug manager (I believe) said it was definitely two shots of espresso. You might want to recalibrate your machine or at the very least actually look at what 2 fluid ounces are. It was a disappointing experience and the employees seemed ill mannered. If I was a franchisee, I wouldn't be too happy. read more

Maybe because it's late in the day, but I was so disappointed that there was barely anything left. No croissants, but I did walk away with a large ciabatta and Anna Claire. Very pricey as expected. read more

Bread alone is EXCELLENT for breads and decent for a breakfast or coffee. We had brunch today and have visited a few times in the past. Todays visit was pleasant though nothing was insanely memorable. Counter service and easy enough to find a table on a Sunday AM though it was bustling. I had the almond croissant (pretty delish) and the white bean escarole soup (good). The sour dough slice that came with my soup stole the show of course. My husband had the breakfast burrito which was good sized but veryyyyy bland. Our chai tea lattes were yummy as well! Most important take away is to take a loaf or two to go! read more

We got curbside pickup and it was super easy, safe, and fast! Placed the order online, called when we arrive and our food was brought out minutes later to the trunk of our call. Everything was great we got a variety of sandwiches, muffins, cookie, chocolate croissant, salad, hot apple cider. It is in the middle of downtown Rhinebeck on a super cute street with lots of shops / other restaurants. read more

We got takeout on a Monday morning. Delicious coffee - Avocado toast was yummy and the bread was super tasty. Also had the Morning Bun and the Lemon and Currant Scone - both lovely. Even though there was a line, it moves quickly and you get your coffee/food without too much of a wait. read more

Love the baked goods, but i can't believe that they don't offer ceramic mugs for dine-in. I don't want to drink out of a paper cup. The ceramic surface of a coffee mug is part of the sensual experience of drinking a cup of coffee. If you're charging $4 for a coffee drink, you need to offer proper ceramic or porcelain mugs for your dine-in customers. Baked goods are also served in take out containers if you're dining in. The beautiful apple pie is not served on a simple white plate. Rather it is given to you in a crypt of cardboard. The staff informed me that it "folds out nicely." I beg to differ. Horrible Customer Service Bread Alone delivered my order to the wrong address. It happens, but the way they responded was totally unacceptable. Even after acknowledging their error, they made no effort to actually deliver it and I had to drive across town to pick it up. Bread Alone refused to make the situation right and when I brought it to their attention, they took punitive measures against me by claiming a false pretext for future deliveries. All because their driver made a mistake. They could have said sorry and made the situation right, but instead, they decided to disregard their customer. I hope to do business with companies that actually care about their customers/clients. read more

The four of us were sightseeing the downtown area of the town and looking for a light lunch spot. We decided on this cafe because of the great looking bakes. It turned out that the sandwiches were darn good tasting. The sandwiches were very creative and fresh. The bakes tasted good, but we liked the sandwiches more. The sandwiches were small which will not do if you are very hungry. We like to return for another lunch me if schedule permits. read more

sadly the new configuration of Bread Alone doesn't allow for the kind of efficient and personalized service even during Covid. Some of the Prepared Foods are what you could probably find at Starbucks. You need to get there early to find the pastries etc you really want. and for some reason, they associate it w sesame allergies, there are no sesame bagels and no rye bread to buy in the cafes. The manager has an attitude. read more

Only a review of the coffee. Came on a weekend day and there's plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. The line moves quickly and there's enough staff to keep it moving quickly. The macchiato is a small 4 oz drink but made strong and with good flavor. I recommend stopping by at least once! read more

We eat their organic traditional French sourdough bread exclusively at home, so any time we're in Rhinebeck, we come for a visit. They serve, Excellent organic coffee from local roaster, Irving Farm. Delicious assortment of baked goods and sweets on offer as well as a wide selection of their bread. Prices may be a bit higher than expected, but for quality organic products I will pay a little extra. We usually don't stay to eat - But instead, pick up a few treats, whatever looks good that day, and some coffee to go. My friends and I were staying in Rhinebeck for a week, and we ordered from here twice during our stay! First day, I had the halloumi & pesto on ciabatta with a large iced almond milk latte. I really liked the halloumi, cilantro and veggies in my sandwich - it was really filling and lasted me until early afternoon. Second day, I had the green egg sandwich on brioche (we requested this, you can swap any bread) and an iced coffee with almond milk. The mix of eggs, avocado on soft brioche never fails - arugula adds a great touch! We also shared some pastries like the lemon pound cake, blueberry muffin and corn muffin. You can tell they used a lot of butter, a bit too buttery for my taste. Everything looked really good!!! read more

Casual bakery and cafe that's busy throughout the day. Get there early if you want a specific loaf because they sell out fast. Sandwiches can be ordered on 7-8 different types of bread. Reliable coffee drinks. Avocado toast was gorgeous and delicious. Thick slabs of bread piled high with chunky avo and tomatoes and spices and vinaigrette. A friend praised this place and not only did we stop here for lunch on our way to our camping site, but we also stopped here on the way back! This place is a myriad of fresh-baked bread and has some really delicious-looking pastries. They have generous-sized pastry samples that they rotate once they run out, so it was awesome to try a few of their pastries. Their Raspberry Charlotte was probably my favorite; it was so creamy and tart! I got the Paris Apple Tart and it was not bad, although I wish there were more apple pieces in there--after all, the Hudson Valley has a plethora of the country's best apples. I had the Chicken Tarragon sandwich with their rustica bread and it was really tasty and filling as a lunch, but wasn't really anything out of the ordinary. As far as their food goes, you can pretty much expect top-notch Hudson Valley quality with mainly locally-sourced ingredients. This place is super popular for brunch and they were advertising their local cheese plate and wine, which I'm sure is fantastic. read more

Mocha latte was mediocre at best. Awkward configuration to wait in line caused congestion at the door. Even worse, the baker's muffin or whatever it's called tasted like CLEANING FLUID. I haven't been to this place in a while because it is always a disappointment. Definitely my last visit. Go to the cute coffee shop next to the bookstore. read more

I have been eating and buying from Bread Alone for over 10 years. Something is not right. Both the farmer bread and a baguette that we purchased had large holes, I had to toss the sour dough bread. The croissants are mushy. Tonight was the worst. We bought an eclair to enjoy as our dessert and when I cut it in half there was hardly any cream..Things have changed in the last few months. They had the best breakfast burrito ever. The eggs, avocado, and beans were just an amazing mix! I tried the overnight oats as well- it was the perfect mix of granola and oats. The bakery is stunning- the renovations are amazing! It's such a great vibe- so fresh! The food literally came out in a few minutes. The service was great, too! Absolutely delicious. Amazing find. I came here with my fiancé, her brother and wife for a mini weekend getaway and we were looking for some breakfast to go. I got the spicy green egg sandwich with sausage. I love the ciabatta bread that it was on. Flavorful and delicious. My fiancé got the egg and cheese sandwich. Her brother got the avocado toast with bacon (OMG, super huge bacon strips and nice and crispy) and his wife got the breakfast BLT. Everything was so damn delicious. So delicious that I forgot to take pictures. It was super easy to order. We ordered through their website and it was a pretty short wait - I think about 15 minutes by the time we ordered (we were driving to there so it worked out perfectly). I love how they had a pick-up area in the back so we didn't have to wait on line since they looked pretty busy. read more

Pastries phenomenal, though a warning...they bake them dark. Some pastries, like the canelle, too dark. So if you're looking for blonde, barely cooked, American-style pastries, this is not your place. Coffee was also very good. Right in the heart of Rhinebeck so it was a good way to start our day. One "but" (and it wasn't worth taking off a star)... when a new customer asks you a question about the menu, and you respond "the menu is right behind you" try to say it a little kinder. The snotty attitude was not appreciated. I'm a person, you're a person...act like it. read more

Cute little breakfast/brunch spot! Came here on a Saturday morning and it was quite busy. There are some tables in the front but you mostly order to go up front. We decided to do a sit down restaurant style in the back. The avocado toast was pretty good. What made it amazing was that you can add whatever eggs you want on top so of course to pair with the avo toast, I ordered 2 poached eggs. It was made perfectly. A little hard to eat, but it was good. We also got the grilled cheese which was actually really yummy. They add caramelized onions in it which gave it more flavor. The breakfast burrito was also pretty good. The only thing I didn't really like was the bacon cheddar quiche. I'm used to a more egg-y taste and this quiche had more of a milky taste to it so we didn't end up finishing that. Overall, great place to eat, chat and hang out with some good grub. read more

After years of seeing their products on the shelves at the Honest Weight Food Co-Op in Albany I was THRILLED to visit their bakery in person! It is a lovely cafe with a tremendous selection. I wanted EVERYTHING. I settled on double chocolate cookies, chocolate chip walnut cookies, banana tart in a dark chocolate cookie shell, a breakfast wrap and a chicken salad sandwich. I loved the sandwich. It felt so wholesome. My favorite item was the double chocolate cookies. We purchased a sleeve of six and they were outstanding. Perfect cracks and crannies. Balanced with a hint of salt. The perfect amount. Rich but not too rich. Outstanding! I can't wait to go back. They had a blood orange tart I want to try next time. read more

They have great pastries and bread. I also enjoy their selection of sandwiches and salads. We used to dine there regularly but the service can be a bit off at times. I'm actually glad they no longer offer table service since the servers sometimes could have a bad attitude. The breakfast burrito is my favorite item on the menu. I miss their egg and mushroom sandwich with garlic aioli. Although I have been enjoying the spicy green egg sandwich. It's quite delicious. Lattes are always consistently well made. Ever since they remodeled the store, the line to order food is now reversed and creates a dysfunctional dynamic. The place looks great and glad they added the booths. I just wish they would clean the tables regularly. The last few times I have been there, every open table was filthy. This most recent visit I was there with my family and I asked one of the servers if it would be possible to have the table cleaned and pointed out there was food bits all over the floor under the table, no one came to clean it up so we didn't stay. I'm hopeful things will improve. It's a popular spot in the area. read more

I've always loved Bread Alone's offerings at the farmers markets. If you're also a fan and you're driving up north or on a Hudson Valley weekend trip, their shop in Rhinebeck is just lovely! The breakfast/brunch options are delicious and the fresh bread and desserts are so very good! read more

Meet the Manager: Melissa B.

My name is Melissa Beck and I am the General Manager of the Bread Alone Cafe and Restaurant here in the beautiful town of Rhinebeck. I am originally from Columbus Georgia and studied Dance and Education in College and Graduate School. Upon completion of school in New York City I continued working in the service industry to make auditioning possible. I very quickly fell in love with the experience of food and service and helping create memories that last a life time during the two! This passion for food and all of life's moments that are associated led me to further develop my rise in the ranks while in the business in the City. After making a decision to move just a little north, I joined the Bread Alone team to continue this desire to bring wonderful experiences to locals and visitors alike with the beautiful selections we offer in both food, treats, and service in this location. I have been here a little over 3 years and we are working hard to continue our positive presence!

He enjoyed his phony negroni (they also had other NA options, including other mocktails, an NA beer, and an NA Riesling) and I really liked my Good Shepherd cocktail, their unique take on a dirty martini. We were too full for dessert, unfortunately. The service was great - attentive and friendly, but it felt like we were able to take our time and enjoy ourselves without feeling rushed, even though the place was busy. It is definitely on the pricier side and I would recommend reservations as the place was pretty full, but I would absolutely recommend this spot for a delicious, quality meal in Rhinebeck!

I decided to try some of the different truffles they had, including the Raspberry Jelly, Tahini Lime, PB & J and Passionfruit Vanilla. I also ordered the Mocha Latte. Everything was incredible! The truffles were out of this world good and the flavors were spot on. The latte was also the perfect cross between espresso and hot chocolate. The service was fast and friendly, and the shop is so cute. I highly recommend ordering a drink and enjoying it in the shop!
