Very unpleasant experience when visiting for a day trip. The menu looked decent and reasonably priced for the area but customer service was lacking. We visited on 6/7/2014. The head cashier was extremely rude from the start. When asking about beer prices, the cashier informed me that all beers were six dollars while inferring that I should have known this already through some form of mind reading. Hence, there are no prices for beer are located on menu that I could see. After deciding on the Tuna melt and a Lagunitas IPA, I watched him pour me a pilsner. After tasting and letting him know that this was not the IPA I requested he asked me "if I was calling him a liar". At this point we decided to leave after returning my money and no apology. After spending a pleasant day in Stinson Beach with friends this was an unfortunate experience in a beautiful place. As a local living in the Bay Area with years in the restaurant industry, I can confidently say I will not be going back to this establishment on my frequent visits to the area. read more

I recently had the good fortune of attending a friend's wedding at Stinson Beach. The ceremony took place outdoors on the sand as the sun was setting and the waves crashed along the rocks. Very romantic setting. The reception took place nearby at Breakers Cafe. Upon first glance, you wouldn't normally associate this restaurant with wedding parties. But it actually worked out really well. They set up a large wine bar outside, and folks mixed and mingled while sipping bubbly and nibbling on cheese and charcuterie (which was catered by another nearby business). There was plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors. They also had a backroom for games (pool table, shuffle board, etc.). And they even had enough room for an impromptu dance floor (I certainly did my fair share of booty shaking). Only downsides to the restaurant is that there are only a few bathrooms (which can be a problem with large parties), and there was only one bartender working the indoor bar. That being said, the entire Breakers staff was super friendly and accommodating. When the reception ended (around 11pm), we all convened across the street at the Sand Dollar Cafe (which is owned by the same folks) for an after party, complete with DJ, dancing, and more drinks. All in all, it was a fabulous time. And if you're looking to do a beach wedding, I would highly recommend both Breakers Cafe and the Sand Dollar for your party hosting needs. read more

The Paleo Spinach breakfast dish made me sick that night and the next day. My stomach felt queazy after and then that night I puked... so just be careful. It might have just been my dish but two other people I ate there with complained of sickness too. Still feeling bad the next day, but functional for the most part. Argh. There's only 2 restaurants in Stinson, so they know you will eat there since you're starving from walking on the beach all day. For years the 2 little places serve similar halfway decent food at somewhat reasonable prices. This place used to serve the BEST oysters, a great burger, or decent soup specials. It was open into the evening and met the need for good food, fast. Now I can't believe it... we walk in at 3 pm on a Friday and there's only a few people on the patio, no one inside. The proprietor is rushed and bossy and tells us to order at the counter. The selection is your basic Mexican pre-fab food, mostly breakfast/lunch type, seafood choices are limited. So I STAND THERE feeling rushed and order us a dozen oysters, split fish tacos, guacamole, and 2 chardonnays. (no discussion over the wine, basic Costco) When the still-rushing owner says, "82 dollars", yes that's EIGHTY TWO DOLLARS. The food was meh, boring. The busboys hardly came by though the place was not even half full. My wallet hurt. The wine was cheap. The tacos were similar to Del Taco. Even though I always forget food when heading over the hill to Stinson, I'll definitely go back to the greasy spoon across the street, because at least they seat us, look cute, and bring us food without charging an arm and leg. Waw, after a great day of exploring Marin county me and my wife headed out to grab a coffee. We ordered already pretty pricy coffees, when we wanted to pay, the guy at the bar told us: bellow 10 dollar no debit. While the sticker on the door indicated that they accept most cards + no indication whatsoever for the limit ($5 ok, but 10.....). I insisted to pay by card, and got a very very rude shout back. For the whole cafe mr wannabe Parisian waiter told us: NO CASH NO BUSINESS!!!! What a sweet little relaxing place, with an outdoor oyster and hot dog bar! We came here for breakfast after a night without electricity, at a cliff side cabin. All we craved was a hot meal and this place really delivered! This is more like a Mexican style cafe, with tacos, quesadillas, enchiladas, burritos, etc etc. We ordered mocha, Uncle Pete's Omelet (shrimp, avocado, jack cheese & pica de gallo), Rocky's Omelet (roasted chicken, corn salsa). They both come with house potatoes and tortilla. The house potatoes were well flavored. The crispy exterior was coated with a light layer of seasoning, even without ketchup, the seasoning was well balanced with the meal and not overly salted. My shrimp omelet was so good!! The shrimps were really fresh with this bouncy texture and translucent pink glow. The buttery flavor blended well with my creamy, stringy jack cheese and soft avocado. Also, the fluffy eggs that wrapped the ingredients together really completed the meal with that pica de gallo tarty kick! The chicken omelet was OK... the chicken tasted very "wild". It has that wild, chickeny flavor. It's hard to describe but it smelled almost gamy. The flavor and texture were alright - it's pulled meat blended with a mixture of spices and salsa... but the gamy taste was slightly unsettling. Overall, I would recommend this place for brunch, and maybe Sand Dollar across the street for dinner (they just seemed to have a classier menu for dinner, even though we didn't get to try it, they were packed at dinner time!). read more

This review is about the bartender set-up on the patio. You can't sit at the patio bar if you've ordered food from inside the restaurant. But you can order drinks and take them to your patio seats. Or you can sit at the bar and just order drinks. Or you can sit at the bar and order everything. If it sounds confusing, that's because it is. I wish I would have known that before I ordered food inside. Basically the bartender outside is somehow independent of the inside restaurant, yet serves their food and wants to make money off food orders. I have been going to restaurants in this building for, well, too many years to mention and am not sure if the ownership has changed over the years but this time was one of the best experiences ever and I just wanted to shout out the excellent food and friendly service. We came on a sunny Sunday Monday for lunch so the crowd was thin, unlike weekend crowds. Right away I noticed the free and unrestricted bathroom access, a nice benefit to hikers coming down from Pantoll. Also iced water was set up on the counter ready for folks to help themselves. Nice, welcoming features. The main room is open, airy and tables far enough apart to be very comfortable. Sitting on the deck is an option as well. We ordered at the counter and the service person could not have been more pleasant and helpful. Due to my condiment aversion, I often need to order special preparation and the server was exceedingly understanding and helpful about my order - and the food came out just as I'd ordered it. We wanted to pay for "to-go" coffees for after lunch when we paid our check and the cashier sweetly suggested we get coffee with lunch, and then take a free refill to go. What a great idea! Thanks, we did. Our food came out quickly and prepared as requested. I had a burger and the meat was honestly very tasty with both a healthy serving of bacon and cheese topping the burger and a hefty amount of well done fries. Yum. I watched our cashier greet and assist several other groups, including a German family who was unsure of the ordering process, and he was calm, friendly and helpful to all - I truly was impressed. read more

Just came here after the long hike. Played on the beach then I got hungry! So I really love seafood... figured it would be good since we're near the ocean... LOL so wrong. Well service is kinda slow... They're nice, but slow. I got a ice vanilla latte with an extra shot. That was good. LOVE me some coffee. So for lunch I picked an open faced crab sandwich melt. Bleh. It was very bland. It was simple. The cheese was cold when I got it. The fries were good but that was about it. I could of made the crab melt way better at home and for the price that I paid $19 I expected it to be WOW. But it was bleh. I even asked for jalapeños and was given fresh jalapeños. Wanted grilled. Not getting that ever again. Atmosphere is nice. There's a fire pit, plenty of tables... the vibe is very chill, relaxed and casual. Casual, order-at-the-counter style place with decent food and great location. The guacamole was great and they made me a vegan taco salad with black beans instead of meat. As with any restaurant, it would be great to see at least one vegan option on the menu (...especially considering that we are in coastal California!!) but for a casual beach joint, it is a decent option that was at least willing to customize to accommodate a vegan. Order at the counter, find yourself a table formula is OK but we were put off that single diners were using outdoor tables set for four people - when they could have sat at a deuce - and the two of us took a table inside - but we wanted to be outside. When in Stinson... Breakfast all day? Check. Sunny (often), outdoor seating? Check. Huevos Rancheros (my go-to)? Check. Burgers, salads, breakfast burritos, soup... reasonable prices. Plenty of healthy options. Salmon salad is straight forward, but quite good. Burger was disappointing. Omelettes have been okay, occasionally less so, but the potatoes they come with are darn tasty and crisped to my liking. Requests for things like 'no cheese' or 'dry toast' have always been accommodated. Be sure to check the daily specials. Nothing spectacular, but then again, not a ton of options around here, so if you're hungry, it's worth checking out. read more

I was here for lunch. There's no real waiter service on weekdays, I guess. You go up to the counter, order, you're given a number, and then you get a seat. I had ordered a burger. The service is good this way. There is a water table where one could get a cup of water. The burger was only mediocre. It was extremely oily. The bun was good, but it quickly got soggy and started falling apart due to the grease. The meat kept slipping out because, again, of the excessive oil. The beef wasn't bad, but it was just overly greasy. They give you the standard condiments for the burger (lettuce, tomato, onions, mayo, etc.) and you can add your own ketchup. With the burger came a huge pile of fries. The fries were crispy and tasty. Needed a bunch of ketchup because of the amount they give you! After eating only sausages, canned chicken breasts wrapped in tortilla and chips during a camping trip, nothing tastes better than delicious brunch by the beach. Breaker's Cafe in Stinson Beach is a delight in a small, homey town, with a diverse menu of typical breakfast foods along with a Mexican twist. After looking the menu up and down a couple of times (the biggest brunch debate is always SALTY vs. SAVORY), I decided on ordering the shrimp quesadilla. However, being someone who has food ADD and likes to literally try everything, I am so glad I went with a couple of other friends whose dishes I could sample for a tasty treat. The shrimp quesadilla was one of the best that I have ever tasted. There is nothing like having fresh seafood (we were right by a beach) cooked and sweetened to perfection in a toasty yet crunchy tortilla. The warm and gooey monterey and cheddar cheese melted everything together very nicely. The juiciness and succulence of the shrimp was utterly incredible - one bite and I felt like I was in seafood heaven. The bits of tomato and peas were also nice touches inside of the tortille - giving it a nice depth of flavor. Of course, being someone who is obsessed with Mexican food (I am from SoCal), I loved the tasty guacamole added to the whole ensemble This next dish is one that my friend ordered that I absolutely loved - it was a close second to the shrimp quesadilla that I ordered. This is the smoked salmon omelette with a side of light toaste and butter. Who ever thought that smoked salmon would ever blend will with eggs? However, this dish works together pretty nicely. Personally I am a big fan of smoked salmon, and since the eggs were not too salty or overly flavored, the salmon gave it a nice, natural zest. The smoked salmon, of course, was smooth, soft and chewy to the right degree. The potatoes were also surprisingly delicious - not too oily, but flavored with light garlic and rosemary. This dish is the chorizo with 2 sunny side up eggs. This is the dish pre-massacre - post-massacre, the eggs were runny and mixed in with the chorizo - which sounds rather odd, but actually tastes sooooo delicious. Personally, sunny side up eggs are one of my favorites because of the yolk that runs so smoothly and gently across any dish. It blends especially well with the rich and deep flavor of the chorizo sausage. While pretty hearty and flavorful, the chorizo gets a nice complement from the fresh salsa and greens on top, as well as the Spanish rice on the side. Finally, the New England clam chowder. Clam chowder is one of my types of soup and starter to a meal. At first, I was skeptical because I saw the green paste on top of the soup, but turns out it mixes in well with the soup. I still don't know what it was, but it tasted good. This clam chowder wasn't the best, but nothing to complain about either. The ratio of the material to soup was pretty good - I hate it when clam chowder either is too watery and has too much liquid, or it is just loaded with potatoes. It has quite a bit of clam in it, which I usually hunt for because I just love the chewiness of clams. This clam chowder did its job alright - it was creamy and pleasing to the taste buds. I would definitely recommend Breaker's Cafe to anyone who wants to eat a decent meal while camping in San Francisco. While it may be a little bit out of the way, I believe it would a trip worth taking because not only is the food not processed, but also profoundly delicious! read more

Ate here ten years ago and stopped again for another meal. Great place to eat on the main road. Clean and neat appearance with counter ordering when walking in. That may be one change and the menu seemed different. Still good. We sat outside because we travel with dogs and we brought one onto the patio. Nice outside bar and good seating. Inside seating is picnic benches unless you sit with your back to the wall so you can lean against it. Grilled chicken sandwich and burgers ordered were tasty and cooked to specifications. Each can with a choice of fries, onion rings, salad, or potato salad. Fresh buns for all and fresh vegetable condiments on everything. Meat has a good flavor clearly fresh not frozen patties and the same with the chicken. We really would have liked to order the crab melt, but it was a crab salad mix. We were not too impressed with the clam chowder because potatoes were cut too large and it was just too thin for our taste. Not creamy like we believe it should be. Food was good and well priced for what we ordered Ambiance was a 90's dance party. I confess it took me back to club dancing in the 90's which is fine I guess for a Monday lunch. 3 Stars. It's absolutely not a 5 star place. Bad coffee, fried foods, nothing terribly fresh, typical diner foods. It earns 3 stars due to it's proximity to the beach, and the fact that there aren't many other restaurants in the area. They also have a comfortable seating area here too, with couches, and a gas fireplace. So 3 stars is sufficient. The employees are your typical hourly wage diner workers, not the most amazingly helpful people, and sometimes brash and whatnot, but they get their job done. They close early though. 3pm. Just getting comfortable and they closed. Kind of crazy, really. read more

I was on a short vacation with my family and stumbled upon this breakfast gem! They use a lot of local produce, which is a plus. But what caught my eye is something I had never seen before, a breakfast enchilada! Yes!!! I ordered the chorizo, egg, avocado breakfast enchilada and it came covered in red sauce. I'll start off by saying that if I were rating this place on the setup alone, I'd give it 5 stars hands down. I ordered the shrimp salad and chips and guacamole at the counter inside but decided to order my drink at the bar outside because I saw a couple of interesting looking jugs of sangria sitting out there. Once the bartender saw I already had a food number, he was quick to tell me I couldn't sit at the (mostly empty) bar unless I ordered food there, then continued to serve other customers as I stood there a little stunned. Once I got his attention again I asked if I could order a drink from him, to which he asked me "you didn't order inside?" Blah blah blah, eventually he begrudgingly got me a tiny, 99% ice filled glass of sangria. Got about 3 sips of sangria total thanks to all the ice. This place went above and beyond for us. We visited the restaurant last week, loved our food, and found a nice cozy spot in the back on a couch. It was a very comfortable, pleasant experience. After our return home to San Francisco, however, we found that we left a sweater at the restaurant. We called them, and we agreed that we would send up a prepaid package for them to ship it back. This morning, it arrived! A lot of places wouldn't have gone out of their way like Breakers did. We really appreciate what they did for us and will definitely be making a return visit. read more

We rolled in to Stinson Beach late morning, starving to death and already exhausted from our windy drive on PCH. The town was packed and so was the restaurant. When I got to the counter I was told to go find a seat first and decide then come back. That turned out to be good advice since there were was only one couch in the corner available. We snatched it up. I ordered at the counter and we got our drinks quickly. Our breakfast came out shortly thereafter. The food was pretty darn good. I had french toast and my partner had a breakfast sandwich. The service wasn't half bad either considering they were understaffed and the place was filled to capacity. I don't know that under different circumstances I would give this place four stars but we were on vacation (not stressed for time) and I found it very quaint, the staff friendly, and the food good. read more

Friendliness and organization make this one of the best choices in town and sitting outside on a warm sunny day is worth the price of admission. The quality of food is good and everything is fresh. There is no reason not to come but its a long way from being a 5 star. She had a Shrimp quesadilla. $12.00. The shrimp was really fresh with just the right amount of cheese, corn and other ingredients. There is nothing special about it but it was good. I choose a bacon dijon cheese burger with sauteed onions. $ 12.00. Its a tasty burger. The onions were perfect, the bacon nice and thick with a slightly toasted bun. The fries were done to perfection. We also had guacamole and chips with two Cokes bringing the total to $40. read more

I stopped by here for a late breakfast with my boyfriend. My boyfriend ordered a breakfast sandwich with a side of potatoes, and I got a half order of huevos rancheros. Both dishes were between $8-9. We were both happy with the quality of the food - this restaurant makes their food very well, and the food tastes nice. However, nothing here is out of the ordinary, the portions are on the smaller side, and the prices are a bit expensive for what is offered. I think that this might generally be the case for restaurants in the area though so feel free to take my criticisms with a grain of salt! read more

Took the ride up to Mount Tamalpais, down the back side to Bolinas and ended up here, hungry and a bit dizzy from all of the twists and turns. We had the chicken and waffles, along with the chicken fried steak and eggs. Nothing phenomenal, but good sized portions and greasy enough to paradoxically settle the stomach butterflies. To the couple in front of us who ordered enough food for an army and then was upset by the bill - um, order less next time? Keep track of what you order? Think before you open your mouth? I like that they have reclining chairs in the front corner near the window. The chicken tortilla soup was brothy and offered lots of chicken. Hearty enough for a post-hike meal. After slowly pedalling a loaded touring bike up the hills of Highway 1 I needed a break. The patio looked appealing, if just so I could keep an eye on my bike, and the menu looked to be a nice mix, vaguely Mexican, and a nice assortment of breakfast foods. I sat down to a breakfast burrito and was incredibly impressed, not only because a breakfast burrito might be the greatest way to fuel an adventure ever, but also because it was remarkably well done. One of the joys of a breakfast burrito is that it does such a good job of hiding lacklustre ingredients; even dry eggs, limp vegetables and burnt potatoes can come together with enough hot sauce to be half decent. I don't know why I went on so long about a bad breakfast burrito, since that is anything but the case at Breakers Cafe; the ingredients are all top notch. The eggs were cooked splendidly, they were tender and moist, with just enough tooth to provide a satisfying texture to the burrito. The vegetables were crisp and flavourful, and the beans were tender and rich. As an avid fan of the breakfast burrito, I was deeply impressed by the quality of food at the Breakers Cafe, and would return in an instant. read more
