We came here on a gloomy Monday. To order, you go up and order at the window, pay and you are given a buzzer. Any drinks are picked up at the window. The patio is all open seating and dog friendly. Lots of chairs and tables with umbrellas. We ordered the prawns and fries and I had their two fish tacos. My husband said the prawns were some of the best he had and the coating was amazing. I was also pleasantly surprised with my fish tacos as they had the right amount of coleslaw, pico de gallo and avocado sauce. This was a very tasty seafood spot. Came here two years ago and was blown away at the fresh quality of the fish and chips. We stopped here again on our way home and sat outside (no inside seating) where we can look out at the Bodega Harbor. Staff is always friendly and take great care of their customers. My fish and chips was fresh and delicious just like the last time. We also shared some calamari and artichoke fritters which were really good. The Seafood combo dish came with the freshest beer battered fish I've ever had. The fish was so flaky and delicious. The batter was on point! The prawns also had the same beer batter and were also very good! The clam chowder was also very good- I saw a lot of complaints that it was too thin and I understand because that is what we are used to here. And while it was on the thinner side, it was still super flavorful and it was generously cooked with lots of clams. Lovely views from the patio as well. A different building sells coffee and bakery items (the brownie was divine!). There is also a gift shop but it was closed by the time we got there. Birds Cafe is quick stop on Highway One that offers beach shack fry-up meets old fashioned Hitchcock nostalgia. We ordered a shrimp remoulade on brioche sandwich and fish tacos and both were solid (nothing to write home about.) The real draw for us was the windswept coastal view. We saw birds floating on the airstream overhead and imagined our food might invite a Tippi Hedren inspired showdown, but all but the most aggressive starling left us alone. The location was right by the cliff side, so the view was a great sight. They have a small parking lot that fill up quickly. They have seating on their patio and is dog friendly. The food came out at a reasonable time, and the service was nice. We ordered their calamari, clam chowder, bbq oysters, and the seafood combo. The calamari was alright, on the thinner side and quite chewy (probably because it was on the thinner side). The clam chowder was delicious and also had some bacon. It was very flavorful and slightly thick (in a good way)! Would get it again! The BBQ oysters were great. We got it with the herb butter, although I expected the oysters to be a little bit more cooked. It was an in between of raw and cooked. Other than that, the flavor of it was delicious! The seafood combo came with fries, 1 piece of fish, and 2 prawns. The prawns were incredibly delicious! Juicy, snappy, and fresh. Menu Options are the usual coastal seafood, oysters, clams chowder, fish taco, crab and lobster roll, but they also have hot dog. You order at the window like lots of the places along highway 1. It take about 10-15min for the food to come out. Delicious oysters, both raw and BBQ. Good clams chowder too. The crabroll was good but a bit rich in butter for those of.you that love a very buttery roll this one is for you. Overall, a delicious meal. We even stopped by the little coffee shop next to it for a delicious cookie and a spicy pickle :) for the road. Great option for non-seafood lovers in the area. Stopped by when driving up the coast and was looking for a lunch spot. They have a designated parking lot but was very full and we got the last spot. They had a good selection of seafood, salads and non seafood items. My husband and I aren't big on seafood so it was nice they had other options that weren't an arm and a leg. We ate on the patio and everything was delicious. Their staff was friendly and quick with our order and keeping the patio clean. Adorable little spot in bodega bay! There was a line for the building with lunch options so I assume it's good. We went to the coffee house for an afternoon pick me up. The coffee we got was decent (iced dirty chai and an iced white mocha), the gourmet fudge was delicious. We did the buy 4 get 2 free deal (it was 6.25 a piece) and all of the flavors were good. It was so good we couldn't stop eating in time and because it was so rich, we practically made ourselves sick. Highly recommend. The other thing I love about this place is the ambience. Great food in a charming location! This is a super casual spot that semi-overlooks the water. We came here for Saturday lunch and it was pretty light. We were able to order quickly and self service seating at the cafe area. We ordered the oysters, seafood combo, clam chowder, and the shrimp roll. It has a birds theme, and there are filming photos inside the main building. They have a gift shop grab and go, they have sodas, they have ice cream and espresso, and then you order and pick up your food from a "food shack" which is separate from the main building. They have outdoor seating, and also seating inside the main building. The menu was decent sized. Lots of seafood choices, of course, and then some other choices as well. I went for the shrimp roll on brioche, and a cup of the clam chowder. The clam chowder was excellent! A very decent sized portion. Creamy, and it had a decent amount of the clams and potatoes in it. Both the clams and the potatoes Were very tender. I liked it a lot. Between the sandwich and the chowder, I wasn't able to finish the chowder. Fortunately, I had a cooler in my car, and when I got home, it reheated very well. The shrimp roll was very good, with one small exception. The brioche was creamy and tender, and there was a half a pound of tender shrimp in the sandwich. The shrimp were very fresh. It Even came with a piece of grilled lemon to sprinkle on the sandwich The one small hiccup, was that the shrimp were in a "shrimp Louie dressing". Which was mayonnaise based. Unfortunately, it was overdressed, , and it took away from the shrimp, just a little bit. If I would've thought about it, I would've asked them to go light on the dressing. Other than that one small hiccup, the meal was very good, and considering you're in a small town and it's seafood, the price was reasonable I would gladly come back and try more items on the menu. This is an amazing spot to stop by if you're in Bodega Bay. We tried to go somewhere else first, and we were completely turned off by the massive line, so we landed at The Birds Cafe. There is plenty of outdoor seating. You order at the counter and they have a great selection for everyone. We also got coffee there every day during our weekend visit, very friendly service and good quality breakfast burrito and pastries. We came back three times on our four day stay in Bodega Bay. The coffee did the trick- good. Hubby gets an iced americano and I got vanilla latte, or a white mocha. I liked the vanilla latte more. The breakfast burrito (bacon) is definitely worth the price. I wouldn't get the fish and chips again, too much breading in my opinion. The line moved quickly and the food was fresh/hot. Now I'm not gonna lie....the chowder was just ok. But the crab roll was TO DIE FOR. It was so fresh, well seasoned on a garlicky bread roll. It was overfilled to the brim with crab. It melted in our mouths and I debated getting another roll. lol. The seating is mostly outside on a deck like setting overlooking the water. Eating our way around Bodega Bay! Tried this place after a local recommendation. Little hard to park in their lot as it was pretty busy. Line was short and we ordered a Seafood Combo, clam chowder, fried artichokes and fish/shrimp tacos. Fish was crispy, shrimp was nice and plump, the taco condiments were good. If you're driving along Hwy 1 and/or are vacationing along Bodega Bay, you might have heard of the local-owned small biz The Birds Cafe. Came with a friend who highly recommended their fish n chips. I've only tried Fishertarian for seafood along the coast, so I was stoked to check out The Birds. We both had their fish and chips which came out hot and flavorful. The half a dozen oysters were on the smaller size, but delicious and worth every dollar. The chips are more circular and girthy than other types of F&C, with a thicker battered shell but still light and easy to crunch through. Their fries are delicious too. Parking is in a small dusty lot, so keep your windows rolled up. We saw families, kids, and dogs. Serve-yourself water. And a single unisex restroom stall shared among all shops. There's a little cafe next door too if you need a coffee or some pastries. I love that it's a small biz and there was literally only three people running the entire joint on a busy weekend! Service is friendly, and don't worry the line looks long, but moves quickly by the minute. HATS OFF to The Birds team. Would def come back with the pup to enjoy their nice and shady deck while enjoying some yummy foods. read more

I visited on July 4, 2025. Cute cafe with outdoor seating and pleasant views. There are photos and wall art referencing the namesake Hitchcock movie. The decor is lowkey and isn't aiming for novelty. We arrived a little before 11am which is when they open the food shack, so we ordered some coffee and pastries to hold us over in the coffee shop. The two are not attached but are right next to each other. There is also another shack, a gift shop, a few steps away. The lobster roll was sufficiently stuffed--not too much to fall out and make a mess, not too little to make you feel like a got tourist. Brioche bun with just the right amount of butter and toast. As someone who doesn't follow the Dow or the s&p 500, much less the international(?) fish market, I will not pretend to know whether the $27 market price I paid for this lobster roll was a decent trade. All I know is, we don't have lobster at home which at the time of this meal is 3hrs away. The lobster meat was fresh and well dressed--really no complaints. The fish and chips pieces were quite hefty--they appear smaller than they are, and had the kind of crackly hard shell batter on them that I prefer over the breadcrumbs/panko-assisted kind. I actually really loved how thiccy these pieces were. Crunchy outer shell with a nice steaming flakey moist interior--yom. The clam chowder was good, and I'm glad to have included in this ensemble bc it was a family outing, but it wasn't super special in my opinion. I've had better, I've had worse. It was a little bland and needed an assist from both salt and pepper packets. There are better items on this menu for sure. But what stood out the most were the artichoke fritters! I'd never had this before anywhere and it certainly left an impression. Nice and lemon-y, a little briny, and fragrant. Light crispy pieces that fall away to the bottom of the paper boat as you are going through these become little savory sprinkles you pick at after the meal is done. And as someone who loves to end a meal and a dessert with a little bite of the meal, this was perfect. Not pictured, but their beer selection was pretty solid, too--a good mix of local choices and the ones that you could never go wrong with. Overall, The Birds Cafe is a nice easygoing place to stop along a scenic coastal route to grab decent bites and not feel too heavy afterwards. Fun little spot. I occasionally head to bodega to fish and hike, or to just enjoy the ocean. I was feeling hungry on my way back and saw the birds cafe on the side. The restaurant had 10 minutes left to open so I got myself a double espresso at the Coffee shop on the side that had some really great looking bakery goods. There was a little cooler with some wine and other beverages (I picked up a bottle of the rose for dinner). Once the restaurant opened I jumped to order. The food is ordered at the smaller pick up looking window. Food was great! There was fish and shrimp tacos (2 ), and I got the option of splitting one fish and one shrimp which was nice. Got myself a beer and enjoyed the food. The coleslaw was refreshing to the beer battered shrimp and fish. I got some hot sauce on the side. Great portions! It was very filling. The service was very friendly from the coffee shop, to the gentleman taking my order, and the cook handing me the food! Drove up to the area for some oysters on a Saturday. We arrived around 1:30pm and there was plenty of outdoor seating, but parking was a different story. There's a small parking lot adjacent to the restaurant but there's limited spots even at that time. The restaurant is broken up to a gift shop, the cafe, and the restaurant. You order food from the store window for food and then you're welcome to sit anywhere, and there's seating by the cafe or behind the ordering window on the patio. This place is very dog friendly, so bring your pup on your next food adventure. Ordering was quick and easy. Go up to the window when you're ready and then you get a buzzer and the food will be called/you'll be buzzed for pickup at the back window. At the back window there's are also water dispenser and cups. Food: - oysters (raw and grilled) were so sweet and fresh. Note about the raw oysters, there's only one type so you don't have a variety to choose from. -lobster roll - I'd come back for the lobster roll. I only got a few bites but it was amazing -corn dog and fries - can't ruin a corn dog, but the fries were just right. Not too oily or salted. After eating we finished eating, we went to the cafe next door for some coffee, but the service here was unlike that of the food window. Cafe service was slow and coffee was mediocre at best. We stopped in for lunch on a Friday afternoon. We got Fast friendly service. I got fish and chips and a beer my wife got the fried vegetable tacos. Mine was good and hot. Hers wasn't as hot, but still good. It was a nice day and they have a good deck with nice views of the area.
