Looking back at the Bake House and the cafe at Brickmaiden in Point Reyes

Brickmaiden Breads is a must-visit when you're in Point Reyes Station. This cozy bakery features an outdoor area with plenty of seating, a nice spot for enjoying your bakery items and coffee. Note: it's standing room only inside: so take away or eat outside in the garden. There's usually a line on weekends (and they close early) but it's always worth the wait. The fruit and shortbread cookies & their granola are delicious, as are the pastries. We try to grab the cheese-filled country loaf to take home, which makes a terrific savory toast -- definitely a favorite every time we stop by.

We stopped by this wonderful bakery before checking out the rest of the Point Reyes Station area. There was a line out the door which was a great sign. They had a wide variety of fresh baked breads, pastries and cookies that are baked on site. My husband had a slice of quiche and a cup of coffee. I decided on the spinach mushroom cheese croissant. We also bought two different loaves of bread, biscotti, cookies and crackers to take home. They had everything displayed so nicely and packaged neatly. We asked if there was a restroom we could use, and they said they didn't have a restroom. I thought that was strange for an establishment that serves food and drinks. They did however tell us where there were public bathrooms close by behind the grocery store about a block up the street. Both the quiche and savory croissant were delicious. We will try the rest of our goodies over the next few days. It's definitely worth stopping here if you are in the area. They do have some seating outside but that's it.

Giving this place five stars because of the yummy pastries. But not just because of the pastries -- This place was so cute and it has a little backyard patio situation giving cottage core vibes. I felt like I was transported into a fairytale cottage. If you're visiting point, Reyes would definitely recommend stopping by here for some quick bites or breakfast!

Drove out to Point Reyes yesterday to check out this bakery. I've had plenty of their bread dr the Marin farmers market but this was my first time visiting the bakery. Their breads are always exceptionally good! Super cute spot, service was great and loved all their offerings. I will definitely be buying more!

This is a MUST when in Point Reyes!!!! One of the best bakeries I've been too! It can get crowded, but the line moves fast. Everything is on point, from the coffee to the pastries to the bread, I can't say enough good things. Service so friendly and welcoming, and they have daily specials of breads and scones etc. they have a nice hug garden out back to sit and enjoy your foods, but inside is just the counter where you order and you can see the kitchen as well which is cool. You have to get the sesame cookies!!!!! Also the focaccia is incredible I'm so sad I only got one piece. The whipped cream in the coffee is so good as well. I've gone here multiple times and each time leaves me craving more!!!!! If you go to Toby's fees barn, you'll also see some of this bakery items by the checkout area as well!

The line out front moved quickly so I figured that this bakery has to be good . Then once inside it's easy to understand why folks wait. We sampled the seeded baguette which was delicious, a spelt cookie that my hubby gobbled up before I was able to snap a pic and a plum meringue. All, so good! Next time will enjoy some of their teas/ coffees as well as other sourdough offerings. The ambience is welcoming. Folks working here are super helpful and kind.

I got the following peach streusel, ficelle sandwich, and (not pictured) Bergamont and Rose snickerdoodle, as well as as Rye-Chatta latte with oat milk. Everything tasted so fresh and delicious. The ingredients are so rich. Great service and beautiful interior as well as their outside garden. Would love to come back again the next morning to try their other products ! See their website or check out any signs in store about their pop-up events. They even have pop-up barbecue. EDIT: went back the next day for the Farmers market. Once again the pastries did not disappoint. Got the almond cake--highly recommend! So divine! They also had a pop-up BBQ with brisket and a side of coleslaw and delicious bread. I made a sandwich out of it. Best I've had in a long time!

This was a small charming bakery / coffee shop. It's small but mighty with what they offer. I forgot what exact toast I got but it was divine! So yummy!! Our Coffee was also great. The staff were also incredibly sweet and helpful. If I were to be back in this area , I would definitely come back.

Oh my gosh, talk about a darling atmosphere!!!!! The garden area is NOT wheelchair friendly but they do have a wheelchair ramp into the store and a lovely, big table with chairs. The woman who served me is super duper kind (beautiful, gray hair) and helpful getting me everything I ordered. The meringue (cherry & chocolate) are super delish! I had never had one and needed to go back for two more before I left the area. The mocha was.... underwhelming. The espresso was crafted beautifully, but zero chocolate flavoring at all. Alternative milk prices were high, unfortunately. Their quiche is also wonderful. Everyone was very, very kind. I do wish there is a way for handicap folks to enjoy the Secret Garden-Esque garden area, but definitely not accessible to anyone in a wheelchair.

They make such tasty baked goods, pastries, and coffee at an affordable price. Love their outdoor garden venue, plus their service can't be beat. If you're visiting point Reyes you have to stop here.

Nearly all of them are complaints about COVID protocol being enforced back in 2020. Three of them are from the same one person. One of the non-COVID related complaints was about the fact that the rotisserie chicken costs more than it does at Costco. As a former Costco employee who actually was "the rotisserie chicken girl," I found this hilarious. Everyone (apparently not everyone) knows that Costco chickens are sold below cost, as a doorbuster. They are intentionally placed in the back of the store, in a location which forces the consumer to walk past all of the promotional items on their way to and fro. You help subsidize the low cost with your annual membership fee. Furthermore, let's just say that if you knew everything that I know about rotisserie chickens, you would probably stop buying them from the store altogether, and invest in your own rotisserie chicken oven kit. These $28 chickens are meant for doctors/rich people who want an organic, free-range, non-injected local chicken that was cooked in an exceptionally clean oven, all by itself, with expensive spices and seasonings-- but don't have the time or expertise to cook them themselves. There are also some added fees for profit and the fair treatment of workers. If you want a Costco chicken, like, go to Costco. Lmao. That being said, yes, a lot of the items in this store are what I would refer to as "prohibitively expensive." Never in my life would I pay $60 for one pound of coffee. But, lucky for me, they also carry $10 coffee bags, which I can afford. Never in my life would I pay $30 for one block of cheese-- but they also carry $7 blocks of cheese. At some point, you have to realize, you get what you pay for. Palace Market is primarily geared towards the local clientele (insanely rich people) and tourists. Generally speaking, this is reflected in the cleanliness, availability of staff to help you (versus a skeleton staff who suffers if one person calls in sick), high-quality local products, great merchandising, great lighting, and community values. While the coffee and hot deli items are a lot pricier than they would be in, for example, Sacramento-- they also taste better. This past weekend, after walking around the farmer's market in the sun, I became desperately hungry enough to pay $14 for one of their hot Cubano sandwiches, and it was amazing. After taking my first bite, I literally said, "Oh my God, that's one of the best sandwich bites I've ever had in my life." Yes, shopping here is a splurge. You get what you pay for. If you're privileged enough to be able to afford to shop at Palace Market, you'll typically get exceptionally high-quality products with exceptional service. For the rest of us peasants, they have enough sales and po'boy items for us to just dip in for a taste.
